Applescript or Action to tile windows

I'm trying to write a script that will open two files after the user selects one of them, then tile the two windows.
I don't see a "tile windows" command in the dictionary for CS3, so I thought I'd create an Action that selects Window>Arrange>Tile vertically, then use "do action" in the script. But nothing happens when I try to record that Action.
Is this possible?

Does your tile action work when manually called from within PS? When you
record it, you probably need to explicitly treat it as a menu call
("insert menu item" from the actions pop-up menu).

  • Folder action to package and create pdf Applescript folder action

    Hi
    Does anyone have an Applescript Folder Action to package Indesign CS5.5 files and make pdfs.
    Thanks, in advance.

    Hi Babs
    I ended up paying someone to create the script. They did a fantastic job creating a droplet that has options to package, create PDFs to presets, print to presets, create an IDML file, retrosave this to CS4 and create a thumbnail. Sounds like a lot but that is what I ended up needing for one client and I can use it on anything.
    Thanks

  • Can I Tile Windows in Tiger?

    Can I Tile Windows in Tiger like on PC? Sometimes I just want to work with all my windows visible at the same time.

    HI, Terrabay.
    There is no system-wide Tile function like you describe. Some applications support tiling of their windows, which would be under their Window menu. Whether or not tiling is supported is application-specific.
    The "All Windows" Exposé shortcut —  F9 by default — displays a spread of all open windows in all running apps, save those windows which have been minimized to the Dock, from which you can select a given window. See this KB search for all Exposé-related Help.

  • Disabling special alerts in the "Change Action Center settings" window

    Hi
    In Windows 8.1 Update, I noticed that, in the "Change Action Center settings" window in the "Control Panel", the "Microsoft Account", "Windows Activate", "Windows Backup" and "Apps launcher" alerts
    can not be disable even with a local account of Administrators type. How come? What is the meaning of these alerts? How do I disable them?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

    Hi,
    Please know that these options inform you of any issues with them if you have gotten them setup. If you haven't set up them, the option appeared to be grey.
    Once they are grey, no such alerts will display about them.

  • Enabling "Startup Apps" option in the "Change Action Center settings" window

    Hi
    I have Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise
    64-bit.
    I noticed that, in the "Change
    Action Center settings" window, the
    "Startup Apps" item is disabled.
    How come? How do I enable it?
    What is the purpose of this option?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

    As per my understanding startup items are the programs/apps, shortcuts, folders, drivers, scripts etc that are set to run automatically at startup when a user signs in to Windows. Disabling this might cause system issues, so its probably enabled
    and greyed out by default.

    Sorry, that's not a very helpful or accurate answer. All the Action Center does is NOTIFY users. It doesn't disable anything. The startup items are still set to run automatically and can still be enabled or disabled through the Task Manager. And the question,
    "how can I enable it" was not answered.

    1. What is output of command
    slmgr /dlv
    2. Contact local administrator for help (Enterprise is multilicense and some help is prepaid. If local admin has no solution, he or she can escalate problem.) You have not given more information on infrastructure configuration (KMS ?).

  • How on EARTH to parameters work in AppleScript Automator Actions for SL?

    Prior to Snow Leopard, creating a new AppleScript Automator Action would create a template something like...
    on run{input, parameters}
    but now, on Snow Leopard, I get:
    on runWithInputfromAction_error(input, anAction, errorRef)
    where to I get the 'parameters' collection from? If I just reference 'parameters', without it being declared in some way, I get errors....
    I assume there is some new mechanism in SL, what is it??
    Thanks

    Sorry, I misunderstood what you said the first time around. I thought that you wanted to use the +Run AppleScript+ action within Automator but now I see that you are trying to create a new Automator action using applescript. Now that I try it in Xcode I to get the same method/handler signature. Tried to look at the [Mac Dev Center|http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/AppleApplications/C onceptual/AutomatorTutorialAppleScript/Introduction/Introduction.html] but it hasn't been updated lately. Also tried looking at the [Automator Programming Guide|http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/AppleApplications/Co nceptual/AutomatorConcepts/Articles/ImplementScriptAction.html#//apple_ref/doc/u id/TP40001512] and the documentation for [AMBundleAction|http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/AppleAppli cations/Reference/AutomatorFramework/Classes/AMBundleAction_Class/Reference/Refe rence.html] but can't figure anything out. Sorry I don't have much experience in Xcode, so can't help you much with that.

  • [SOLVED] Possible to tile windows in xfce?

    Hi guys,
    i'm curious if there's any possibility to tile windows in xfce4. i'm very used to this nice feature from kde4/gnome/win7/etc. where you can drag/drop the window to the edge of the screen and it gets automatically adjusted, or more precisley, tiled horizontally/vertically.
    i know that there are many tools/hacks avaible in the AUR but can they also be applied on xfce4/xfwm?
    best regards!

    xfwm4-tiling is really great and recommendable (it's available in the AUR)! tiling is a bit 'harsh' when you use more than one desktop because the distance between skipping to the next desktop and tiling is a bit too small, but ok
    edit: thank you warfruit for pointing at the pkg!

  • Tile windows ala Microsoft

    Hi, I've been using OSX for a couple of years now and the one thing I miss the most about the Windows OS is the ability to tile windows. It seems there must be a way to do it in OSX. I know I can hit F9 and get a selection of windows to choose from, but that's not what I'm looking for. I want to be able to expand the windows to fill the screen, each taking an equal share, either horizontally or vertically, and allow me to work back and forth between the two. The way I'm used to doing this in Windows is to right click the taskbar and choose Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically. Surely in such an advanced OS there's a way to do this basic command?
    Mike

    Hi Owern,
    Drag the sides of each window to resize. Drag the title bars to rearrange them on your screen.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Tile windows in Openbox

    I've been interested in tiling WMs for a while now, but I don't really have the time to configure one. I was fascinated by this article, and I promptly installed "tile" with yaourt. Sadly, the "tile" command returns command not found, and I haven't found a file to use pacman -U on.
    Any suggestions or alternatives?

    you´re looking for tile-windows (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16168). tile (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7498) from the AUR is something completely different.
    i named it tile-windows, because tile was already used.
    btw, i´d rather recommend whaw (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O … _Search=Go).
    you need the mouse for that, but i think it´s more versatile.

  • Can you tile windows from Javascript in CS3?

    I have a javascript that will open 2 images in Photoshop from different directories based on a single filename, so that the users can view them side by side. They need this to be able to compare the colour correction from an automated process against the original image.
    The trouble is that even though I can open the images, I cannot invoke the "window/arrange/tile vertically" menu item, as I can with InDesign.
    Does anyone know of a neat trick to get around the missing tile vertically command within Javascript for Photoshop CS3.
    (I've trawled the web and found that most answers are for 4 or more windows, where the images are pasted into one doc. But here I need to keep the windows separate.)

    One way to do this in CS3 is with an action. Make a new action then stop recording. There should be no steps in the action. From the action panel's flyout menu choose insert menu item. Then choose the "window/arrange/tile vertically" menu item. You now have an action that you can call from a scipt to tile the two images.
    Another way is to use Xbytor's doMenuItem function
    // adatped from Xbytor's xtools stdlib.jx
    doMenuItem = function(item, interactive) {
       var ref = new ActionReference();
       ref.putEnumerated(charIDToTypeID("Mn  "), charIDToTypeID("MnIt"), item);
       var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
       desc.putReference(charIDToTypeID("null"), ref);
       try {
         var mode = (interactive != true ? DialogModes.NO : DialogModes.ALL);
         executeAction(stringIDToTypeID("select"), desc, mode);
       } catch (e) {
         if (!e.message.match("User cancelled")) {
           throw e;
         } else {
           return false;
       return true;
    doMenuItem(stringIDToTypeID('tileVertically'));
    Note newer version of Photoshop have a app method named runMenuItem that can be used instead of a custom function.

  • Applescript open action and quarantine items

    Hi,
    I have a simple applescript droplet, but not all dropped files are being passed to the open handler. It appears that the problem is with files that have the com.apple.quarantine attribute set. If I drop a single file with this attribute set, the droplet runs as expected. If I drop multiple files, the ones with the com.apple.quarantine attribute are silently exclude from the list. Here is a sample the exhibits the problem:
    open theDropped
              display dialog "Dropped " & (theDropped's length) & " items"
    end open
    Say I drop five files on the droplet, and three of them have the quarantine attribute set, the droplet will pop a dialog saying "Dropped 2 items". If I drop one file WITH the quarantine attribute set it will say "Dropped 1 item". I have confirmed by looking at "theDropped" that it is the items with the quarantine attribute that are not making in on the list. If I first clear the quarantine attribute using xattr, everything works as expected.
    How can I make the open handler see these "quarantined" files? I know I can preprocess the files to remove the attribute, but that just avoids the real problem.
    Thanks!

    'Mail' has been brutally cut off at the knees. No actual trying to send a click to any of its elements works any more.

      click at {xPosition + (xSize div 2), yPosition + (ySize div 2)}
      display dialog xPosition & tab & yPosition as text
      on error errmsg
      display dialog errmsg
      end try
      tell current application to delay 0.2
      if exists menu item "Save Attachments…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1 then
      keystroke "a" using command down
      if not enabled of menu item "Save Attachments…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1 then say "attachments disabled"
      click menu item "Select All" of menu 1 of menu bar item "Edit" of menu bar 1
      set x to 0

  • PS CC 2014 Actions launch Preferences Window

    I've been using Photoshop Actions for years but recently I've encountered some odd behavior. I made a simple action that removes transparency from a document by executing the Trim command. The last part of the action then saves the changes and closes the PSD file. It worked great until today.
    Here are the steps I'm performing:
    While I'm in Bridge, I select all my files in the current folder, I initiate this Action from Tools \ Photoshop \ Batch. This switches me over to PS with the Batch window open. From there, I can choose the action from the drop down list  and run it.
    The action runs its course on the selected files with no issues the first time around.
    However, if I try to run the action again on files in a different folder (from Bridge), I keep getting the Preferences Units & Rulers window launches each time the file loads. I have to sit there and press the Escape key each time in order for the action to complete.
    I tried to duplicate the behavior by stepping through the Action manually in order to pinpoint which step is the culprit, but the Preferences window doesn't load. It only does it when the Action runs on its own.
    Anyone know why this would happen?

    If you create an action set with just the one action and save the set upload the uploade it to the web and post a link to the .atn file we can download the action and test that on our machines.  You will get feedback from both Mac and PC users. It sound odd that it would work once then fail the second  time. Was Photoshop CC 2014 up before you used bridge menu tools>photoshop>batch the first time or was Photoshop started because you used tools>photoshop>batch.  If is was not up did you try closing PS down before the second batch?
