Applet fails in browser

Hi there,
I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could tell me why the simple applet I wrote will not run in my web browser (IE6), but works fine in my IDE (eclipse).
The source code I'm using looks like this:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.applet.*;
public class colours extends Applet implements ActionListener{
Button red = new Button("RED");
public void init(){
setBackground(Color.white);
setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.CENTER));
red.addActionListener(this);
add(red);
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
if(e.getSource()== red){
setBackground(Color.red);
Appoligises if this is not formatted to convention.
when I use dreamweaver to attempt to load this class file onto a web page using the OBJECT tag I get the Applet notinited error message (this occurs for all the applets I have written that are any more complicated than hello world!)
I am using the following html:
<body>
<object classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" codebase="" codetype="application/java" width="300" height="200">
<param name="code" value="colorApplet">
<param name="type" value="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
<param name="scriptable" value="false">
<embed width="300" height="200" code="colorApplet" type="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3" scriptable="false" pluginspage="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/plugin-install.html"></embed>
</object>
any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

    Can anyone elaborate on why the client seems to balk at the returned result and the getinputStream seems to result in a FileNotFoundException

  • Applet failed to load when visited using HTTPs protocol with Java 7

    We have a java applet on our website which worked for ages. Then Java 7 came out, people installed it. When people with Java 7 visiting our website using HTTPS, the applet failed to load (ClassNotFoundException). The same site and the same applet, when visit using regular HTTP, it works fine.
    People with previous version of Java (1.6.x) can see the applet using either HTTP or HTTPs with no problem.
    Anything we can do on our side to resolve this problem for people with Java 7 and like to stay with HTTPS?
    Googled and didn't see any relevant result. Any pointer would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for the quick response.
    Not much on the stack trace, did a tread dump below.
    It is an application requires login, please sent and email to [email protected] and I will sent you the url and login info by email.

  • The applet fails to load. with 'red cross' screen JVM 1.6.19 and above

    After updating the JVM to one of the latest version 1.6 builds, our users started to experience a problem with opening java applets.
    All the users have JVM versions 1.6.0_19 – 1.6.0_26 on Windows 7/2008. The browser is IE8. On the server usually there is IIS7, with ‘Integrated Windows authentication’
    on applet’s virtual folder. Applet’s classes are packaged into a signed JAR file. Both the client and the server are located in the same local area network with no proxy or firewall between them.
    The applet’s website usually belongs to the trusted security zone. When loaded, the applet establishes HTTP connection to the server to get the necessary data.
    When the user tries to open an HTML page containing the applet, there can be the following scenarios:
    1.     The applet fails to load. We’re getting a ‘red cross’ screen. All the HTML elements except of the applet are loaded OK.
    From the IIS log we can see that the loading of the JAR file failed with the error code 401, the user name field in the log for the JAR is empty.
    2.     The java asks for the user name and password showing a popup ‘Authentication required’. At this moment we can see the following message in the Java console:
    network: Firewall authentication: site=/XX.XX.XX.XX:XX, protocol=http, prompt=, scheme=ntlm
    If the user enters the correct credentials, the applet loads OK. Even if the user checks the ‘Save the password in your password list’ checkbox, Java continues to ask for credentials
    on every page reload. It’s worth to note that the company’s external firewall doesn’t get any requests from the applet.
    The problems happen even when the client and the server are located on the same machine, but never happens when we use localhost as the server name in the page URL.
    During investigations we found out the following workarounds:
    1.     Enabling anonymous authentication on the virtual folder always solves the problem.
    2.     Sometimes, changing security zone from ‘Trusted’ to ‘Local intranet’ solves the scenario 2 (‘Authentication required’ popup) problem.
    It’s worth to note that changing the security zone never helps if the page URL contains dots (for example, uses IP address instead the server name).
    3.     Upgrading to IE9 solves the scenario 2 problem partly: Java asks for the credentials only once.

    I have the same issue. I use single sign-on with IIS 7 and Integrated Window authentication on the tomcat virtual folder. The applet jar file is on the root directory of the web application (the same level of index.html). So I use '.' as the code_base to call the applet from javascript.
    So when I launch my web application into a browser, the auto-connection is successfully performed (single sign-on through Upstream, kerberos, remote_user, ...). But when I want to launch the applet in the web application, a new authentication panel (red panel with "authentication required") occurs in order to set credentials (login, password, domain) with the message in the java applet console:
    "network: Firewall authentication: site=myApplicationUrl, protocol=http, prompt=, scheme=ntlm"
    So why the applet doesn't inherit previous credentials in this case ??
    Have you solved this problem ?
    Thanks

  • Applets fail on Firefox + Debian

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to develop an applet but it seems that ALL applets fail.
    I keep getting the same exceptions: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException.
    To prove my point, i directed the browser to the sun applet test page, titled "How do I test whether Java is working on my computer?" (http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml) and still get the same exception (full stacktrack on the bottom of the post).
    I'm running Debian lenny, Firefox 3.6 and java 6 update 18.
    As it stated in the tutorial, I created a symbolic from within the firefox plugins page to the appropriate file under the jre.
    It's important to add that other java applications that i run on the machine (not under a browser) works just fine, that is eclipse is running just fine and I use it to develop java applications which also cause no problems with the current jre/jdk.
    I pretty much spent the whole day searching the net for related posts but could not find anything that helps.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    baftos,
    I'm sorry for not mentioning this in my original post, but i first encountered this exception when trying to run the applet I'm developing, this applet is part of a firefox extension and is being called from a chrome url (chrome://) which is basically local, and i know for a fact that the browser can reach that url because when the address is pasted into the address bar you get the "download file" dialog.
    Also, when I try to load the page of the test applet using the same computer but under windows (using VirtualBox) the applet works just fine with firefox 3.6 (windows).
    Thank you.

  • Loading Java Applet Failed : Getting Red "X"

    Hi all
    I have JRE 1.6.0_07 loaded on my machine. When i try to access a particular website from my machine i can see an orange Java Logo and then after some time i get a "Red" "X" on top left with a message in bottom of browser
    "Loading Java Applet Failed".
    I am Using IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsb_sp2...on a Windows XP SP2 Professional .
    I also get a Error Message as
    "General Exception"
    Name - Batchmanage
    Java.lang.classnotfoundexception.batch.class
    1) However when i disable Options ==> Advance ==> Java(Sun) ==> Use JRE 1.6.0_07 for <applet>
    and enable Options ==> Advance ==> Microsoft VM ==> Jit Compiler for VM enabled
    Application runs fine.
    2) But if i Enable Options ==> Advance ==> Java(Sun) ==> Use JRE 1.6.0_07 for <applet>
    and disable Options ==> Advance ==> Microsoft VM ==> Jit Compiler for VM enabled
    Applications Give error mentioned above and Red X
    3) Similary if i enable Options ==> Advance ==> Java(Sun) ==> Use JRE 1.6.0_07 for <applet>
    As well as enable Options ==> Advance ==> Microsoft VM ==> Jit Compiler for VM enabled
    Still Application Gives error mentioned above and Red X
    For some machines we have observed that it runs fine with Java (Sun) enabled with no Microsoft VM
    Any advise or help would be appreciated
    Thanks

  • Could not load applet in a browser using jre 1.6.0_06

    Hi,
    I am facing problem with loading applets when the browser uses jre 1.6.0_06.
    Not able to understand what actually the problem is, I tried to check with a small applet that would simply print Hello World on the java console. Even this applet also could not be loaded on the browser. I could load this applet in the test environment of eclipse, but not able to load it on the browser when the applet is deployed on Tomcat.
    We have no problems in loading applet if the browser is using an earlier version of the jre.
    One more thing we have found out that, if we change the SSL cipher suite of the ssl.conf file such that it can support weaker protocols, my applet works with jre 1.6.0_06 also.
    But one thing we could not understand is that why changes in SSL cipher suite of the ssl.conf file creates problem in loading the applet, only in case the browser is using jre 1.6.0_06. I mean to say that changes in the SSL cipher suite does not create any problem in loading the applet if my browser is using an earlier version of jre 1.6.0_06.
    Please help me out as I don't have any clue regarding this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    We have found a wor around for this problem.
    The following option has been unchecked and the applet could be loaded.
    Go to java control panel
    Under the Advanced Tab
    Under the Security section
    Uncheck the last option "Use TLSv1.0".
    This makes the applet work.
    But could not understand as why this is creating a problem.
    We have tried to include TLSv1.0 in the cipher suite of our apache server, while keeping the above option in java plugin control panel checked, but even that did not solve the problem.
    Please help me of how should I proceed for this problem, as I am totally stuck.
    Thank you.

  • Problem in loading applet in HotJava browser

    I am having a problem in loading a simple applet in HotJava
    browser
    The code of the applet is shown below
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    public class HelloJava extends Applet
    public void paint(Graphics g)
    g.drawString("Hello Java", 10, 100);
    The code of the HTML file HelloJava.html is shown below :
    <HTML>
    <! This page includes a welcome title in the title bar and also
    displays a welcome message. Then it specifies the applet to
    be loaded and executed.
    >
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>
    Welcome to Java Applets
    </TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <CENTER>
    <H1> Welcome to the World of Applets </H1>
    </CENTER>
    <BR>
    <CENTER>
    <APPLET
    CODE = HelloJava.class
    WIDTH = 400
    HEIGHT = 200 >
    </APPLET>
    </CENTER>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    ON opening the HTML file in HotJava Browser, the following error comes up :
    HelloJava: class not loaded: file:/D:/Poonam/Java/Src1/HelloJava.class:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: HelloJava: class not loaded: file:/D:/Poonam/Java/Src1/HelloJava.class

    Well the obvious question is what is utilities.PropertyManager up to at line 23? It appears to be trying to get the system classloader which applets aren't allowed to do.
    You should probably be using the ClassLoader from the class in question.

  • Loading Java Applet Failed in CRM 2007 Web Client Marketing

    We have recently upgraded our CRM 4.0 sp6 system to CRM 2007.  As part of this upgrade we configured the SAP Best Practice Building Blocks.  Logging on to the webclient using the user MKT_MAN (assigned business role BP_MKT_MAN) we get an error when trying to run the Marketing Calendar.  the error we get is that "Loading Java Applet Failed" the specific applet in question is: Applet com.sap.crm.mkt.calendar.applet.MktCalendar notinited
    We have implemented the following SAP notes to try and rectify the issue but with no success:
    Note 1177590 - Version 2.0 of Marketing Calendar java applet
    Note 1237477 - Marketing Calendar is not displayed, Tensegrity Library
    Any ideas as to what can resolve this issue
    Thanks in advance
    Eddie

    Hi Eddie
    I have exactly the same problem, using IE 6.0 & JRE 1.4.2_07.
    What I have found is that users in my company with the same configuration on their machines, same settings as above can load the Marketing Calendar without issue.
    Have loaded the same notes as yourself already.
    I have managed to get it to working by switching off my proxy settings entirely. This is fine for testing but of no use for go live.
    I have also found that when it does finally load successfully it is incredibly slow in comparison to other functionality within the WEB UI.
    Thus far I have logged an OSS Message regarding this matter, could I recommend you do the same, this should encourage SAP that the issue is not isolated.
    Good Luck

  • Problem viewing applet in a browser

    Hi guys,
    i'm facing a basic problem in viewing an applet in a browser say
    IE or netscape. beside adding the applet tag to the html file that i want to browse ;is there any other operation to perform on browsers or the Applet in order to view it ?
    i would be very grateful if you help me fix this!
    thanks indeed
    othman

    - Is there a plugin installed on the client machine
    - Is the browser java enabled
    - What tags are you using .. show your html code
    - Are you aware of the security restrictions of the applet and its sandbox
    - Are you able to view the console. What exceptions do you see if any.. show your exceptions
    - What version of IE or Netscape are you testing with
    - What OS are you using, what jvm version..
    - Is the plugin set to be used with IE and Netscape in the Plugin control panel
    - Is your applet code in the same directory as your html file. Does your codebase attribute reflect this.

  • Launching same applet in new browser window

    Hi,
    I launched applet in netscape browser and it worked fine. Then I opened a new window and pointed same url as first browser, applet main window is launched but because of shared static variables the two applets conflict each other.
    we understood that applet from same code base loads in to same name space so the static information is shared between different applet instances.
    one solution might be creating our own ClassLoader- browsers SecurityManager dont allow outside application to create ClassLoader unless user sets security policy to allow.(I cant ask user to do that and I cant afford signed applet solution)
    basically I am looking for a solution like
    1. launching new instance of netscape which dont share its JVM with other netscape windows(I dont know how to make it)
    2. triggering netscape to use different class loaders(its own classloader) every time.(How??)
    3. heard mayscript html flag helps(I have no idea)
    4. any better solution
    Your help is very importent so any suggestion or solution is welcome
    thanks in advance

    the most simple idea is to avoid the usage of static variable when the values of theese variables will be private to each applet instance...
    much more simple than create a new class loader...
    remember: a static variable should be used only when you want the same value shared by all instances of a class... otherwise use the private ones...
