Applets fail on Firefox + Debian

Hi all,
I'm trying to develop an applet but it seems that ALL applets fail.
I keep getting the same exceptions: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException.
To prove my point, i directed the browser to the sun applet test page, titled "How do I test whether Java is working on my computer?" (http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml) and still get the same exception (full stacktrack on the bottom of the post).
I'm running Debian lenny, Firefox 3.6 and java 6 update 18.
As it stated in the tutorial, I created a symbolic from within the firefox plugins page to the appropriate file under the jre.
It's important to add that other java applications that i run on the machine (not under a browser) works just fine, that is eclipse is running just fine and I use it to develop java applications which also cause no problems with the current jre/jdk.
I pretty much spent the whole day searching the net for related posts but could not find anything that helps.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

baftos,
I'm sorry for not mentioning this in my original post, but i first encountered this exception when trying to run the applet I'm developing, this applet is part of a firefox extension and is being called from a chrome url (chrome://) which is basically local, and i know for a fact that the browser can reach that url because when the address is pasted into the address bar you get the "download file" dialog.
Also, when I try to load the page of the test applet using the same computer but under windows (using VirtualBox) the applet works just fine with firefox 3.6 (windows).
Thank you.

  • Applet failed problem

    Hi!
Im new to working with Java applets. I am going to describe my problem with the applet I have written and all the circumstances of it because maybe I have missed out some little detail that somebody can point out.
So, I was given the assignment of modifying my Professor's applet a little bit. The structure of the code was class example1 extends class table extends class BufferedApplet. I made the changes to the applet using Netbeans IDE 4.1. So the applet runs perfectly in the applet viewer, and the HTML page created by the netbeans on running the example1.java code also works fine if I open it from the build folder using firefox, or explorer.
So I thought, great, I got my assignment done. We must post the applet on our website for it to get graded. So I uploaded the example1.class file and the example1.html file to the same directory on the webpage. I added table.class and BufferedApplet.class as well, just to be safe. All three source files are also in the same directory, coz we have to provide links to them for the assignment.
Now, when I open the webpage, it wont display the applet. It shows me a white box with a red cross in the top left corner and gives me the message "loading java applet failed". sometimes, there are variations like "example not inited" or "java.lang.NullPointerException"... Here is what the Sun Java console had to say:

  • Installation of Moonlight plugin fail on Firefox 6.0.2 because it is not compatible. When it will be compatible?

I tried to install Moonlight plugin version 3.9.9 (4 preview) on the latest version of Firefox. Error message is: "Novell Moonlight could not be installed because it is not compatible with with Firefox 6.0.2".
There isn't any versions of Moonlight that can be installed on Firefox 6.0.2.
Moonlight plugin worked very well with previous versions of Firefex.
    Is it correct?
When Firefox 6.0.2 will become compatible with Moonlight plugin (or vice-versa)?

Installation of Moonlight plugin fail on Firefox 7.0.1 because it is not compatible.
    Found this, worked for me
I found an other way: download the compatibility Reporter addon. this addon makes firefox to ignore the compatibility of the addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/?src=api

  • Applet failed to load when visited using HTTPs protocol with Java 7

We have a java applet on our website which worked for ages. Then Java 7 came out, people installed it. When people with Java 7 visiting our website using HTTPS, the applet failed to load (ClassNotFoundException). The same site and the same applet, when visit using regular HTTP, it works fine.
People with previous version of Java (1.6.x) can see the applet using either HTTP or HTTPs with no problem.
Anything we can do on our side to resolve this problem for people with Java 7 and like to stay with HTTPS?
Googled and didn't see any relevant result. Any pointer would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for the quick response.
Not much on the stack trace, did a tread dump below.
It is an application requires login, please sent and email to [email protected] and I will sent you the url and login info by email.

  • The applet fails to load. with 'red cross' screen JVM 1.6.19 and above

After updating the JVM to one of the latest version 1.6 builds, our users started to experience a problem with opening java applets.
All the users have JVM versions 1.6.0_19 – 1.6.0_26 on Windows 7/2008. The browser is IE8. On the server usually there is IIS7, with ‘Integrated Windows authentication’
on applet’s virtual folder. Applet’s classes are packaged into a signed JAR file. Both the client and the server are located in the same local area network with no proxy or firewall between them.
The applet’s website usually belongs to the trusted security zone. When loaded, the applet establishes HTTP connection to the server to get the necessary data.
When the user tries to open an HTML page containing the applet, there can be the following scenarios:
    1.     The applet fails to load. We’re getting a ‘red cross’ screen. All the HTML elements except of the applet are loaded OK.
From the IIS log we can see that the loading of the JAR file failed with the error code 401, the user name field in the log for the JAR is empty.
    2.     The java asks for the user name and password showing a popup ‘Authentication required’. At this moment we can see the following message in the Java console:
    network: Firewall authentication: site=/XX.XX.XX.XX:XX, protocol=http, prompt=, scheme=ntlm
If the user enters the correct credentials, the applet loads OK. Even if the user checks the ‘Save the password in your password list’ checkbox, Java continues to ask for credentials
on every page reload. It’s worth to note that the company’s external firewall doesn’t get any requests from the applet.
The problems happen even when the client and the server are located on the same machine, but never happens when we use localhost as the server name in the page URL.
During investigations we found out the following workarounds:
    1.     Enabling anonymous authentication on the virtual folder always solves the problem.
    2.     Sometimes, changing security zone from ‘Trusted’ to ‘Local intranet’ solves the scenario 2 (‘Authentication required’ popup) problem.
It’s worth to note that changing the security zone never helps if the page URL contains dots (for example, uses IP address instead the server name).
    3.     Upgrading to IE9 solves the scenario 2 problem partly: Java asks for the credentials only once.

I have the same issue. I use single sign-on with IIS 7 and Integrated Window authentication on the tomcat virtual folder. The applet jar file is on the root directory of the web application (the same level of index.html). So I use '.' as the code_base to call the applet from javascript.
So when I launch my web application into a browser, the auto-connection is successfully performed (single sign-on through Upstream, kerberos, remote_user, ...). But when I want to launch the applet in the web application, a new authentication panel (red panel with "authentication required") occurs in order to set credentials (login, password, domain) with the message in the java applet console:
    "network: Firewall authentication: site=myApplicationUrl, protocol=http, prompt=, scheme=ntlm"
So why the applet doesn't inherit previous credentials in this case ??
Have you solved this problem ?
    Thanks

  • Popup LOV fails in firefox when using an outer join!!!

I have a popup lov which contains at least 2 outer joins in my query. The popup renders fine in IE but i get the error message:
"Popup List of Values query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different"
when launching the popup from Firefox (1.5.0.2)
Anyone got any idea why this works in IE but fails in Firefox?
    Cheers
    Duncan

    Hello,
Duncan – If you'll run your example code on SQL*Plus, you'll see that for department "OPERATIONS" there is no returned value. This could happen with outer join. The problem can be with the way FF is interpreting this non-value. I didn't try it my self, but maybe if you'll use display null value with your LOV, it will solve the problem. Another possible option is to use NVL() on the returned value.
Chris – Some of the Apex team members, like Carl, are using FF as their main browser. There are some compatibility issues with the last version of FF, but from that, to your conclusion of Apex only support IE, there's a long road.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • Loading Java Applet Failed in CRM 2007 Web Client Marketing

We have recently upgraded our CRM 4.0 sp6 system to CRM 2007.  As part of this upgrade we configured the SAP Best Practice Building Blocks.  Logging on to the webclient using the user MKT_MAN (assigned business role BP_MKT_MAN) we get an error when trying to run the Marketing Calendar.  the error we get is that "Loading Java Applet Failed" the specific applet in question is: Applet com.sap.crm.mkt.calendar.applet.MktCalendar notinited
We have implemented the following SAP notes to try and rectify the issue but with no success:
Note 1177590 - Version 2.0 of Marketing Calendar java applet
Note 1237477 - Marketing Calendar is not displayed, Tensegrity Library
Any ideas as to what can resolve this issue
    Thanks in advance
    Eddie

    Hi Eddie
I have exactly the same problem, using IE 6.0 & JRE 1.4.2_07.
What I have found is that users in my company with the same configuration on their machines, same settings as above can load the Marketing Calendar without issue.
Have loaded the same notes as yourself already.
I have managed to get it to working by switching off my proxy settings entirely. This is fine for testing but of no use for go live.
I have also found that when it does finally load successfully it is incredibly slow in comparison to other functionality within the WEB UI.
Thus far I have logged an OSS Message regarding this matter, could I recommend you do the same, this should encourage SAP that the issue is not isolated.
    Good Luck
    Arden

  • File uploads using jQuery with jquery.fileupload.js fails in Firefox over SSL

Please see the link below where I originally posted the question.
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27792614/file-uploads-using-jquery-with-jquery-fileupload-js-fails-in-firefox-over-ssl

Thanks. In my estimation that is exactly the issue. But that doesn't help with a resolution.
The actual file size: 945,991 bytes
If Firefox is miscalculating the length (in Safari/Chrome 945991 and 946241 in Firefox), then Firefox is reporting erroneously and should be raised as a bug in Firefox, would you agree?

  • CRM 2007 - Marketing Calendar - Applet Failed

    Hi Gurus
When trying to view the Marketing Calendar, I get "Loading Java Applet Failed" message.
The rest of the screen displays correctly, just the Calendar itself does not display.
One of my colleagues has his PC set-up the same as me and it works for him, I've tried to mimic his set-up but still the issue remains.
    I'm on I.E 6.0 Java version JRE 1.4.2_07
Maximum points for a speedy resolution to this.
    Many Thanks
    Panduranga

    Hi Alexandre
Ended up logging as OSS message.
Applied notes: 1237477 & 1177590 as per recommendation.
Due to Proxy issues also had to update Exclusions in Lan settings.
Once this was sorted the Calendar did display.
    Still a number of issues:
    Very slow to load
Tends to crash after only a number of changes
Will deal with these at a later date.
Will award you full points as this is still the correct answer.
    Many Thanks
    Panduranga

Partial Get via IE Browser/applet failing ... need help !?
    I recall someone saying that IE client would not receive a partial get initiated by http URL with setRequestProperty("range","bytes=2-");
Can anyone elaborate on why the client seems to balk at the returned result and the getinputStream seems to result in a FileNotFoundException
Do I have to use sockets ??????

  • Embedded animation fails in Firefox. Why?

I am attempting to re-create an Edge Animation originally published here --> reconnectingamerica.org/spacerace
The re-creation by itself works fine in all browsers --> jomariworks.com/edge-projects
But when I embed the animation -- output from Edge Animate as an animate deployment package and imported into the web page in Dreamweaver -- the animation no longer works in Firefox.  See jomariworks.com/portfolio/#web and click on "Adding Animation" tab.
The animation works in Chrome and IE and fails in Firefox on the Desktop. It also fails on iPad, but I'm not going to worry about that yet. Right now I need desktop browsers agreeing on the output.
Appreciate any suggestions on what may be causing Firefox's problem.

    Got it!
There's a conflict with foundation.css -- something in your CSS where you have a bunch of [data-section-content] classes is making your Animate project barf.
The good news is the project will still work on your page, you might just have to be a little bit clever about how you position the composition. Doing a simple test of placing the <object> outside of the <section> tags made everything work as expected (though the position is off). Something about all those [data-etcetera] selectors being applied to children of the section is throwing the comp off.
I tried to narrow down the CSS rule that could be causing this, but only got so far in 4600 lines with multiple selectors spread out to cover the same ground. Hope this gives you a starting point though.
One suggestion is adding some custom CSS to treat that tab as a special case so it doesn't inherit the styles from foundation.css.
    Good luck!
    Sarah

  • Some applets fail to run after installing jre 1.5/5.0

    Hi,
I have a big problem. After installing java runtime environment 5.0 / 1.5, some java applets from sites no longer work. I can view certain java applets, but strangely, some applets do not work. For example, when I try to log into the Hushmail account <www.hushmail.com>, the applet fails to load properly. I enabled tracing and logging and this is the output from the console:

Strangely, there is a message "JSS package is not found" from the console output above. What is this error and how do I rectify the problem so that I can view all applets without any problems?
    This is my system configuration:
Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4
    Java Runtime Environment 1.5
    Mozilla 1.7.3

Probably due to Mozilla configuration, see this search:
