Applet Plug-in and Caching GIF files

In the Plug-in 1.4 release notes, it says that the Plug-in will cache GIF files and other non-JAR files. Are there instructions or documentation how to get the Plug-in to cache files other than JAR files? I couldn't find anything when perusing the 1.4 documentation.
Thanks for any insight you can provide!

The document you point to explains caching JAR files in 1.3. Can I also cahce GIF files the same way? Does the plug-in caching mechanism work with any file type? If I cache a GIF file, how to I reference that in my code so the Applet uses the cached version instead of the one on the server, or does it implicitly know this?
Thanks for any insight.

  • How can I enable java applet plug-in and Web Start applications via terminal?

    Since the last Java update to Snow Leopard, I have found that the system periodically disables the Java applet plug-in after a period of disuse.  I know I can go to /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and just click to re-enable Java.  But I want to write a script which will do this periodically for a couple hundred Mac users where I work.
    My question is - how can I reenable the Java applet plug-in and web start applications via Terminal command?  Is this possible?  Is there a plist file that can be modified, etc.?
    Bob Reed

    It is my understanding that Apple's most recent Java update automatically disables Java after a certain period of time that it hasn't been used.  We don't want users to have to keep re-enabling it.  So we wanted to find a way to do this via script either run by a Casper JSS server or stored locally on each workstation.   With the guidance provided by Mark Jalbert above and some text from a script written by Rich Trouton, I was able to make a script (with some minor changes) and a launch agent to re-run the script upon login.  So the preference is always enabled.
    For your reference, the script content is:
    #!/bin/sh
    # DYNAMICALLY SET THE UUID FOR THE BYHOST FILE NAMING
    if [[ `ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-50` == "00000000-0000-1000-8000-" ]]; then
    MAC_UUID=`ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c51-62 | awk {'print tolower()'}`
    elif [[ `ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-50` != "00000000-0000-1000-8000-" ]]; then

  • After Java patch 1.7.0_07 ENable applet plug-in and Web start checkbox is gone!

    Hello all,
    Using ML 10.8.1 and Safair 6.0
    After Java patch 1.7.0_07 ENable applet plug-in and Web start checkbox is gone! The check box to enable Safari to load Java pages is 100% gone, missing, just not there anymore.
    When I go to the Java test page it shows that I have Java 7 loaded. Has anyone else run into this problem or have a solution to enable true load loading in Safari and bring back the Enable applet plug-in and Web Start application check box in ML...
    Thanks

    I found out something very interesting. I noticed that another page would show up for less than have a second before the ML Java Preference would show up. I did a video recording of this and moved frame by frame. I show that the page / pane showing up had the following option:
                    Run applets:  in their own process
                                         within their browser process
    Both boxes for the two are unchecked.
    Then this page would disappear and nother would show up without the option / check box
    Enable applet plugin and Web Start applications
    Strange

  • Looking for a good Javascript to let me know if the "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start Applications is enabled" is disabled or enabled within Java Preferences?

    If this code could work on Snow Leopard as well, that would be awesome. I have a code to tell if Java is enable or disabled on any web browser, but it does not detect if the Java Preferences "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start Applications is enabled" is enabled or disabled. Just looking for a specific code to tell if this option is disabled or enabled.
    Thank you

    Launch Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences.app by double-clicking.
    EDIT; But I think you are confusing this with JavaScript which has nothing to do with it.

              (Defaut most compatible)
    Under the network tab im told
    By default java applets and web start applications use network settings in the system network preferences. Only advanced users should modify these settings
    Any ideas on why it is like this?

  • Activation of links to embedded ".kmz" and "Animated GIF" files.

    I recently upgraded from Adobe Acrobat Pro X to Adobe Acrobat  Pro XI and noticed a slight difference on how documents linked in an Adobe Acrobat File are activated for display.
    I have placed files I want to display in my Adobe Acrobat file as file attachments.  I then link to those files, so that the user can click on an icon area within the document and open the file in a new window.
    After a little effort, I was able to make the correct links to .pdf file attachments, but ran into problems linking to and displaying files that utilize external applications to view the file.  If I was able to convert this file to a .pdf file, I could open it with no problem.
    However, I am having trouble linking the following file types for display from file attachments already embedded in the Adobe Acrobat document file.
    They are...Portable Network Graphic (PNG), Animated Graphic Interchange Format (GIF), and Keyhole Mark-up Language - Zipped (.KMZ)  and Microsoft Word (PPT) files.
    The .pdf file was originally convered from a Microsoft Word file in which all of the links worked fine.
    I thought I had the problem solved in Adobe Acrobat Pro X, but cannot seem to open the same files iin Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Would appreciate some guidance.

    Thank you for your offer, I do appreciae it.  But I think the better question to ask at this point is :  What is the last version of Photoshop Elements that supports editing animated gif files.  This is too important to me to lose this ability and after checking further I see CS4 is out of my price and needed features range. I would rather hang on to my old laptop to manipulate photos than lose the ability to edit my .gif files.
    Can anybody help with this question?

  • Java Applet: choose, read and write local file

    Can some body please help in writing a Java Applet with the following features:
    1. FileChooser button to select a local text file
    2. Load button
    3. Read the file line by line, process it and write into a text file.

    AnilK wrote: Thank you very much.
    Those are just empty words. You can show your thanks in ways that are more useful both to me and you.
    To better show your thanks you might..
    1) Stop treating me as though I were your servant. In a conversation, you might ask a question that I try to answer. As part of my answer, I might need to ask you some questions. A question is a sentence followed by '?'. I did ask you some questions. There are four questions I asked in my first reply. Please answer my questions so I can provide you the best advice.
    2) Do not ignore things I say. (see below*)
    AnilK wrote: However, I still have a problem where the applet can not write a local text file.
    * That is probably because you ignored what I mentioned about digitally signing the applet. If you do not understand anything I write, please do a search and if that does not help you to understand it, ask me what I mean.
    AnilK wrote: Can some body please help me out.
    I was happy to help, but my enthusiasm is dropping quickly. Unless you can manage to improve your replies, I will not help further.
    I will supply some more tips before I finish this message and wait to see your reply, to decide whether I will help further.
    1) If you use 'code' delimiters, the Java code will be colored nicely for people to read. Here is an example (e.g.).
    } catch (Exception e) {
    ret = "problem found. Please reload.";
    return ret;
    2) I had a point here about indenting code, but when I went to reply, the code was indented, which makes me think that using code delimiters would also fix the problem where the code looks as if it has no indentation.
    3) It is 'best practice' (unless you are an expert and can justify otherwise) to dump every stacktrace to find out what really happened. e.g.
      } catch (Exception e) {
        // Very important!  Find out why it failed!
        e.printStackTrace();
        // now go on to do the other things..
        ret = "problem found. Please reload.";
      return ret;
    } 4) When you get a stacktrace, copy/paste at least the first few lines into the message. If my guess about the cause of the problem is correct, the word 'security' will appear somewhere in the stacktrace.
    5) To encourage people to help, post compilable examples, rather than code snippets.
    <http://homepage1.nifty.com/algafield/sscce.html>
    By the way - congratulations on getting as far as you have. You have surprised me that you got so far already. Improve on the other things I mentioned, and I would be happy to help further.

  • Streaming video using Frontpage 2003 and Quicktime .mov files

    What is the proper way to stream video files. I created a .mov file using iLife and I use Frontpage 2003 to upload to my website.
    I read in Microsft's official book on FrontPage2003 that all I had to do was to insert a movie file into a web page, just like inserting a picture. I was also told that I do not have to have the file on a streaming server, I could just keep it on the regular web site.
    The file does download to the browser, but it does not start the video playing.
    Do I need to do something elese? Or do I have to have the file on a streaming server.
    Thanks
    George

    "Streaming" QT files requires Streaming Server software.
    Your files probably just "download" via http protocols.
    And, since the recent update to Internet Explorer for PC's, the page code syntax has changed from that used in your FrontPage files.
    Your "page code" tells the plug-in what to do with your file. If you're directly linking to QT content then it is bypassing the plug-in and your entire file must download before playback can begin.
    Some links for you:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61011
    Explains the structure needed for embedded files.
    And now, the new news from Microsoft regarding Internet Explorer:
    http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html
    You need to change the "tags" to include autoplay="true" (and a few extra tags for the new M$ update).

  • How to create a par file that includes an image and a .swf file

    Hi everyone,
    I have a requirement to create a <b>.par file which will contain a .swf file and a .gif file</b>.
    Can anyone please tell me the steps to do so.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks Ranjeet for the quick reply.
    I have created a portal project and placed the .swf file and the .gif file in the images folder and deployed it to the server. I downloaded the .par file and chked that it contained the .swf and .gif files. But when i run the application it <b>does not show me the .swf file</b> . An icon with a cross mark appears instead. I have flash player installed on my PC .The .gif file when run works fine but not the .swf file.
    Can anyone tell me a workaround for this ?

  • GIF files not being cached for toolbar (WEB Forms)

    I realized that the GIF files we are using
    in our toolbars are not being cached by the
    browser. I analyzed the file XLF.LOG and
    the files always have access code "200"
    (not cached). The file REGISTRY.DAT has
    the same problem. Only the JAR file has
    access code "304" (cached). Although these

    many seconds to open each form when someone
    executes our application using a low speed

    with more than 30 icons). Is there any
    special configuration I have to do or this
