JSP and "cookieless" sessions

Hi,
I am doing some development using OAS 4.0.8.1 on NT using JSP. I am successfully able to save session state using session.putValue(...). However, OAS always tries to maintain this session via a cookie (4 cookies, to be exact). Is there a way to force OAS to do URL rewriting?
Note: I read the "Advanced JServlet Programming" chapter of the OAS JServlet documentation. The sample code shows something like this:
oracle.OAS.servlet.ServletRequest req1 = (oracle.OAS.servlet.ServletRequest) request;
followed by:
req1.useCookie(false);
This seems like what I want; however, OAS gives my a nice ClassCastException when I try the first line of code above. I am aware that the implicit "request" is really a UniversalJSPRequest (or something like that), but no amount of casting fixed this for me.
I appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks

It is because OJSP put a wrapper (UniversalJSPRequest) around the original http request (oracle.OAS.servlet.ServletRequest).
That's why you cannot cast HTTPRequest to OAS ServletRequest.
At oracle.jsp.runtime.JspHttpRequest (an interface class)
or
oracle.jsp.provider.JspUniversalHttpRequest (a implementation class), there is a method called getNativeRequest().
It will return the original / native request back to you. So, in your case, it returns the OAS request back to you.
So, what you need to do is:
oracle.OAS.servlet.ServletRequest req1 =
((oracle.jsp.runtime.JspHttpRequest) request).getNativeRequest()
followed by:
req1.useCookie(false);
This piece of code may look ugly. But, it should work.

    Greetings,
    I create stateful session bean in the first jsp, then how can I get the stateful session bean in the
    second jsp? I find that somebody store the bean in HttpSession.Which is the correct scope for sharing client-specific data when 'request' scope is insufficient.
    If I store the stateful session bean in HttpSession, then I can get it in the second jsp. My problem is
    that I can store the stateless session bean in HttpSession, and get it in the second jsp. Then, bothWhy is that a "problem"? Does your application not require the stateless bean to be shared? If so, then don't store the EJBObject reference in the session...
    stateful and stateless can maintain the state in the second jsp. What is the difference betweenWhat do you mean by this exactly?..
    stateful and stateless session bean in this case ?Statefulness of session beans is in regard to maintaining client state (er, in all cases). If your "stateless" bean is receiving information from the client (i.e. its caller) - either through a create method or a business method - and that information is available (retrievable from the bean) on subsequent method calls, then that bean is, in fact, stateful - regardless of how it is deployed.
    I understand the definition of stateful and stateless session bean, but I'm confuse how to use
    session bean.The correct question, it here seems, is "when" to use which type... Use a "stateful" bean when information about (from) the client (i.e. the caller) must be maintained across method calls of the bean. Use a "stateless" bean for general business methods that do not depend on "prior knowledge" of the client (i.e. the caller).
    Can anyone provide sample jsp to show difference of stateful and stateless? How the statefulA "sample JSP" would yield nothing additional... The semantics of calling, using, and "persisting", bean references are always the same - regardless of type or class. However, the reason(s) for using one over the other depends entirely on the needs of your application.
    session bean can maintain the state for the client?I recommend that you spend more time learning about EJBs generally. In particular, it seems you require more fundamental understanding of their scope and lifecycle. Refer to sections 4, 6, and 7 of the EJB 2.0 Specification.

  • How to track the same session using both jsp and servlets

    Hello, guys:
    "how to use jsp and servlet to track the same session",
    it seems to me my logoff.jsp never realize the session I established in my servlets.
    Here is how I set my session in my servlets:
    "     HttpSession session = req.getSession(true);
    session.setAttribute("userid",suserid);"
    Here is how I invalidate my session in my logoff.jsp
    " <%@ page language= "java" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.servlet.http.HttpSession" %>
    <%@ page session="false"%>
    Our Session id is : <%= session.getId() %>
    <% session.removeAttribute("userid");
    session.invalidate();
    %>
    Our Session id is : <%= session.getId() %>"
    but when I try to logoff using the logoff.jsp
    I always get following error message.
    "/home/jiao/jsp_webserver/tomcat/work/Standalone/localhost/syllabus/htmls/logoff_jsp.java:50: cannot resolve symbol

    So,
    <%@ page session="false"%>
    That means the jsp never instantiates the build in session object.
    <%@ page session="true"%>
    means jsp will instantiates a session object if there are no existing ones
    how about I just delete the line,
    does that mean the jsp will find the existing session object for me?
    So I can do something like
    Our Session id is : <%= session.getId() %>
    <% session.removeAttribute("userid");
    session.invalidate();
    %>
    directly.

  • Problem with Frameset and page session

    All,
    I am having a problem with Framesets and page session attributes. I
    have a client who's application uses a three frame frameset. They
    have a requirement on several pages that when a button is pushed two
    different pages load into the right and left frames. The way they
    are accomplishing this is that on the pages were this is required,
    they are adding target="_top" to the form declaration in their JSP.
    Then they store the page names they want to display in session,
    forward the request to the frameset, the frameset then determines
    which pages to display based on the session variables. This works
    exactly how they want it to.
    Here is our problem. We need to store some information in page
    session attributes. We have tried to get a handle to the desired
    view bean and call the setPageSessionAttribute method. However,
    since we are forwarding to the frame and the frame handles displaying
    the desired JSP, that view bean we had the handle to is not the one
    that is created to hand the display of the JSP.
    The next thing I tried was to use the request object. In the
    handleBtnRequest method, I set an attribute in the request object. I
    then query the request object in the beginDisplay event of the view
    bean. When the frame is reset the request object does not contain
    the attribute that I have set. I'm confused by this because I
    thought the request object would be available to me throughout the
    life of the request.
    Given the above information, does anyone have any suggestions? Also,
    am I going about this in the wrong manner.
    The client had been storing this information in user session, which
    seemed to work. However, since the data being stored dealt
    specifically with data for the requested page, we felt that storing
    it as page session was more appropriate.
    Thanks,

    The script on your page web page has some obvious bugs.. Best
    fix those
    first before looking to blame Flash.

  • Redirect to main jsp when the session expires

    Hi,
    I have a jsp say mainframe.jsp in which I have two frames each having a jsp page say child1.jsp and child2.jsp.
    When the session expires and I when i try do any changes in child2.jsp or child1.jsp, the page redirects to login page and when I login successfully, I am getting redirected to child2.jsp or child1.jsp respectively. But I want it to be redirected to mainframe.jsp.
    Any help is greatly appriciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Vinod

    I think I am not clear.
    When I try to login after session expiry, I am redirected to child jsp.
    But what I want is that I should be redirected to mainfram.jsp page.
    url in the address shows : ../mainframe.jsp?ID=******
    When my seesion is expired and I try do some manipulation in child1.jsp (which is inside a frame of my mainframe.jsp). it is redirected to login page and from there to child1.jsp instead of mainframe.jsp
    Now the address url shows : ../child1.jsp?ID=********* because of which I am not able to see child2.jsp along with child1.jsp
    What I want : ../mainframe.jsp?ID=********
    this is the code I am using !!
    String destPage = request.getRequestURI();
    response.sendRedirect("../redirect.jsp?dest=" + URLEncoder.encode(destPage));

    Hi friends,
    [please forgive me if i am posting this in the wrong forum, all seems same to a fresher]
    Now, to my problem..i need a suggestion, a way or a method to implement the following!
    I am supposed to create a servlet that reads data from oracle database. Once i retrive the data (for example: 6 rows of a table having 4 attributes), i am supposed to pass this data to a JSP page where the data has to be formatted and displayed properly. If i call the same servlet from a different JSP, i should be able to access the data in that JSP and format it in a different way. How do i pass the data to JSP? what method i can use to achieve this task?
    Note: I already know about PrintWriter pw = response.getWriter(); and then printing the formated HTML page..but i want to keep the formatting to JSP part and send only the data part that i can access in JSP

  • Cookieless session causes redirect loop when deployed to Azure Website

    I have a website that needs to use cookieless session. The website works fine locally and the session key gets passed into each request url as expected. However, when deployed to an Azure website, the website requests cause a redirect loop by reloading the
    url over and over again with new session keys each time. I've tried setting regenerateExpiredSessionId to false but that does not have any effect. The Azure Website works okay with UseCookies, but I need to use cookieless session for other technical reasons.
    What can be done to resolve this issue or get more insight into why it is happening?

    Hi,
    Disabling the affinity can be done in two ways:
    In your application
    In a site configuration
    Which one did you tried.
    Regards,
    Azam khan
    I'm unmarking this as an answer. In no way does this answer the original question. In my previous reply I stated that I used web.config setting to disable ARR Infinity cookie. This did not resolve my problem. Also, could you please take a minute to describe
    why you think disabling this feature would solve the problem? The original link you posted does not mention cookieless session or give any description of why that would be related to my problem.
    Thanks for trying to help, but unfortunately this has not solved the problem. If you have more details, please provide them.

  • Why not jdeveloper creates the persistance unit and the session client and

    why you do not create the persistance unit (outside) and the session client and ...the interface and other required opjects automatically when I create the application or the project?
    why you are using symbols like AFD, JSF, JSP, JPA,.JEE...and tens more, why you do not use a meaningfull names of these process symbols.
    Thanks
    Ali

    Asalman,
    I'm quite happy the JDeveloper behaves the way it does. Why? Because in most of my scenarios I don't want to be driven in a particular direction of development. This my choice of development and I don't like tools that dictate this to me.

  • Help!  JSP and Bussiness components Project Error

    I have created a project with bussines components and jsp.
    When a user connect to login page, the other users data change
    to the last user connected.
    (Note:
    I does working with entities, views, viewlinks)

    Arturo,
    I assume you are using 3.2 of JDeveloper. When you say that
    other users data changes, what do you mean? Please describe the
    symtoms.
    For example, User A connects to a JSP and is browsing the
    Customer data. User B connects to the JSP and changes some data.
    Does User A see it before User B commits? If it shows after User
    B commits, that is expected behavior. If it shows before User B
    commits, then that means that they are sharing a session in the
    web server.
    What kind of web server are you using. If it is the builit in
    sever in JDeveloper, then that is the problem. The built in
    server in 3.2 does not support sessions.

    Do you understand when a NullPointerException will be thrown? This will be thrown if you want to access an uninstantiated Object.
    So look to the stacktrace and go to the line where the NPE is been thrown and doublecheck if the object reference is actually instantiated.
    Or add a null-check to the object reference:if (someObject != null) {
        someObject.doSomething();
    }or just instantiate it:if (someObject == null) {
        someObject = new SomeObject();
    someObject.doSomething();

    c) listed the directory and both these files are there but it
    cannot resolve or find it?
    d) I recall reading something about publishjsp command but I have
    to establish a session shell with OSE? this part is very
    confusing and am not sure what to do here.
    e) not sure if i need to publish the loaded class (create a
    procedure? so it can be known to the rest of plsql?)
    A step by step procedure is very much appreciated. fyi.. I
    have Oracle 8.1.7, + oc4j, I can run sqlj from command line
    and class files generated I can run. I can also run JSP and
    servlets on the oc4j accessing the database. It is this SQLJ
    that throws me off balance. If you include Jdeveloper steps
    ro run SQLJ thats also welcome.
    Thanks in advance for kind responses posted.

    In many Model-View-Controller web applications implemented using J2EE, servlets are as controllers to direct the flow between the model and view. While servlets can output HTML code directly, it is much better to use JSPs for the most part. JSPs contain HTML and possibly Java scriptlets. The J2EE container will typically compile JSPs into servlets. While you could use a JSP as a controller, there are drawbacks to that approach. To minimize the amount of Java code in your JSPs, you can either use the tags provided by the JSP spec or use tag libraries written by someone else or yourself. See the JSTL for one such example.

  • Cookieless sessions cause ActiveX print error

    Greetings, all!
    I have a ASP.NET web application hosted on IIS 7.5 that delivers several reports via our CMS server and the CrystalReportViewer control (version 12.0.2000.0), and this basic structure for report delivery, export, and printing is working just fine. However, we recently had to set up one site with cookieless sessions, and this has created a problem. The reports still render and display properly within the CrystalViewerControl, but printing (in ActiveX mode) no longer works.  Any attempt to click the Print icon in the viewer toolbar results in the message "An communication error occured. Printing will be stopped." Exporting still works properly. The PrintControl.cab file is installed and works (as noted in sites not using cookieless sessions).
    An analysis of the javascript strongly suggests the source of the problem. The scripting kit used to construct and inject the Crystal javascript code in support of the viewer creates code to invoke an ActiveX control pushed down by the famous PrintControl.cab file. The URL passed as a parameter for the report to the control includes a sequence of folder-level escapes (../../..) that prefixes the site name and embedded session ID. I believe the script generator is not cognizant of the fact that the session is embedded in the URL, and thus should provide an additional escape prefixing the print control's report URL parameter. As it is, I believe the URL that is forwarded back to initiate the postback for printing is either receiving an unhandled 302 redirect that the print control cannot handle.
    If there are any other suggestions or solutions to this issue such that cookieless server sessions can be supported and continue to allow printing to work properly, I would be most appreciative.
    Many thanks,
    David

    There are two options
    1) Use proxy where you host the viewer directory as a sub-directory of the application and set the ResourceURI as u201C~CrystalReportViewers12u201D. For details see the following KBases. They are both pretty well identical and for CR XI R2, but the principle will be the same for any version of CR.
