Applet + rmi problem

I am makinga cards game using rmi .
When I start my applet , my paint method doesnt run on some clients. Sometimes it doesnt run on all.
And what is bothering me is the asynchronous behaviour(if I am thinking right) is that when the applet starts
I register it with the server and the server invokes a remote method on the client. Now which method runs first , the paint() or the remote method. What if both run simultaenoulsy ? is that a problem?
Also the buttons I show o nthe applet(this is another remote method invoked fro mthe server) only appears after I resize the applet .
Any ideas?

just use ctrl+a to mark the code and the ctrl+c to copy it. then focus on the textfield you want to paste into and hit ctrl+v...

The server is responsible for passing messages between clients and accessing Oracle database using JDBC. The client is a Java Applet. The code is like the following. Thanks for the help. But I don't have to configure the security policy. Instead, inspired by a message in this forum, I simply upload the applet to the HTTP server (mugca.its.monash.edu.au) where my won server is running. Then the applet is download from the server and running fine in my local machine.

I have a PC running Iternet Explorer 6.0 running under Windows XP. I have developed an applet using JDK 1.3 which is running fine with applet viewer , but it is not running in ie. I have installed Netscape navigator and Opera 5. the applet is running fine in both of these browsers but somehow it is not running in IE.
Later on I upgraded my JDK to 1.4. It also displays use Java2 (V1.4.1) for <applet> (requires restart) tck marked in Advance section under Tools-Options menu of IE.
I have also tried and set various options in my Control Panel�s Java Plug-in but all in vain. I have searched the sites for this solution but no one answers specifically.
I know it�s a small problem due to discarded JVM in IE under Windows XP but give me solution for that.

Applet Flash problem

I have an applet and a flash in two frames in a HTML page. The applet and the falsh app communicate through the Javascript code with in the HTML pages. The flash app does not work as it is supposed to when the applet is present in the Parent HTML page. When I removed the applet, the flash app seems to work ok. But the applcation that I am working needs both of them together. Plz suggest me a solution if you know of any flash and applet related problems.

Rmi + applet closing problem

I am running a client server application .
I need to close an applet(client) fro mthe server .
is this podssible or does it cause security problems?/?
without javascript please .
Is it also possible to just convert my applet into a frame , this will allow
me to close the frame fro mthe server(syste.exit(0) but might
have security problems which th aplpe tdoes not have ??
any ideas??

An applet can only be closed by a browser when the user moves away from the document that contains the applet or when the browser is closed.

Applets & RMI - How Straightforward

I recently developed an application to run over the corporate Intranet using an Applet on the the client side and Servlets on the server to do the database querying. Everything works fine but I cannot deploy the solution as the server runs IIS and I canot get the administrator to set up a servlet container.
Thus, I thought I would switch to using RMI on the server. I'm new to RMI and have been trying to get the basic communication between the Applet and a remote object working in order to test the feasability of this solution. I can run it okay on the local machine with both Applet Viewer and IE5.0, however, when I try to run the Applet from another machine I get the following error.
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission 127.0.0.1:1099 connect,resolve)
The Applet is trying to connect to the same machine from which it was downloaded and thus, I believe, there should not be any need to mess around with the policy files as seems to be suggested by mnay replies to other posts relating to this error.
I am confused by the fact that the exception indicates the client loopback address - 127.0.0.1:1099 - which suggests to me that the problem possibly lies elsewhere???

Given that the loopback address is quoted in the Exception Message, it seems to me that possibly my Applet is "missing something" and the applet's lookup attempt is defaulting to the client (hence the exception as the Applet cannot of course access the local system) rather than the server.

Applets, RMI & ClassCastException

I'm developing my first RMI application and I'm getting a ClassCastException upon Naming.lookup(...) on the client:

You must cast your remote reference to the interface that the RMIServer implements.
So remote should be FileUploaderRemoteInterface and the getting the reference should look like this:

...That is because Naming.lookup(...) actually returns the stub object which is obviously not the server object itself. It just implements the remote interfaces that the server object does...

RMI Problems with WL 6 and JDK1.3

I have been working on converting an existing RMI Service- Client
Application to use Weblogic 6.0. All the rmi services run in an
external VM seperate from the WL server. This setup works fine with
plain RMI, I have converted this to WL and JNDI. I get the following
error after a few connections to the service have been made. It always
happens.

these errors that Peer has shutdown because a message has been
received from an unknown VM. I have dumped out the info of and the
message is coming from a "known" VM but the weblogic rmi subsystem
seems to have lost the information. Any ideas or help would be
grateful.

Opening and closing a frame from an applet security problem

can I open a frame or a window from an applet and close the frame by using
System.exit(0) for the frame or will it throw a security problem.

I am using system.exit(0) to exit the JVM.
dispose()
Releases all of the native screen resources used by this Window, its subcomponents, and all of its owned children. That is, the resources for these Components will be destroyed, any memory they consume will be returned to the OS, and they will be marked as undisplayable.
If this frame have to be close and open again don't use dispose.
there is no check whether a frame is active? what you can do is set the the new frame to null (frame = null) and also when you dispose it, this will let you know if the frame is active or not.

Need help with applet related problems

First of all hello to everyone. I'm new to this forum. I usually can solve my problems google-ing around, but this time I just ran out of ideas.
I'm trying to develop a jni applet that can run native code for performance. I used netbeans so far and the applet works great when run from within the ide. At some point a managed to make the applet run inside firefox and iexplore, however somehow i screwed something up and now i can't make it run anymore. I don't really know what i did but i think it may be related to these lines in the console since everything up until awt works fine in the applet:

I am sorry for bold, i came here to ask for help. I used bold to differentiate output from my questions since i couldn't find tags.
I already validated jnlp using JaNeLA and got only optimization suggestions.
As I said in first post, this works for a friend of mine, so it's possible a local issue with my java or something ...
Also i reinstalled jre/jdk 7.0, then uninstalled and installed latest jre/jdk 6.

Java 1.5_13 applet loading problem due to 'activate control' fix

I updated my JRE to Java 1.5 revision 13, and it seems to introduce a new problem. In order to fix the "click here to activate this control" problem in internet explorer, I iterate the document model and set the outerHTML of the applet tag to the same outerHTML. This removes the annoying rectangle in IE. This also causes the applet to load and break down the first time the page is displayed, because IE removes the old applet instance and creates a new one when replacing the outerHTML. When this happens on the new Java JRE release, an exception is thrown to the user saying:

If you are using struts2 or your applet is inside a internal frame, is possible that the above solution will not work.
So, the solution that i found was place the applet code in the main page, with width and heigh iguals "*0*" and style="float: left;" to hide the applet.
This way, the applet will be load before you call the right page.
That's all.

Applet display problem in 1.4.2_10

I recently upgraded JRE from 1.4.2_07 to 1.4.2_10 and my applet page refresh got screwed up. Sometimes when the page with the applet is refreshed, the applet is not displayed. It is loaded for sure but not displayed.
If we switch back to some window and come back to this page again, it shows up !!! or just hit enter on the address bar it shows up !!! ...
Anyone facing the same problem? It would be great if someone could help me one this ...

It might have to do with the recent MS patches (released April 11th) that fix some issues within ActiveX; double clicking the script window then does the trick?

Please help with an RMI problem

This is probably a really simple problem which i can't spot, but i have the folloing 'HelloWorld' RMI program:
The Client Program:

}Now, this program works fine on my computer at home(XP!!!!!) but when i try to run it on the computers in college which run NT, it comes up with the following exceptions when i try to run RegisterIt:
Java.rmi.UnmarshalException: error unmarshalling arguments; nested exception is:
Java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: HelloServer_StubThis is saying that it cannot find the stub which is generated, but i use the folloing .bat file to load up the program:
echo Creating remote object skelton classes....
rmic -d . HelloServer
start rmiregistry -J-Djava.security.policy=test.policy
start java RegisterIt
start java -Djava.security.policy=test.policy HelloClientThe stub is definitely created(it worked at home and i have checked in the directory and there are clearly the files HelloServer_Stub.class and HelloServer_Skel.class). The PATH is set correctly otherwise the registery would not be able to run correctly etc and therefore i am completely stuck as to why it doesn't work.
Please help as it is very important for me.

I did not have any problem with Windows 2000 at all but only with Windows XP (and to think XP is a 2000 hybrid!).
I have the same error: a ClassNotFoundException on the stub file.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Java Applet Panel problems with CardLayout

Hi, I have a problem a I have been stucked for 2 days.
I created 3 Panels to use with CardLayout. I would switch between those 3 panels depending on user interaction. I have some textfields and text areas on the 2nd and 3rd Panel. On the 1st panel, I would like to use g.drawstring to write some stuff on that panel, but the words would be blocked off if it goes to where the components are on the other panels.

RMI Problem with rebind()

created files as below. All compiled successfully.
ran <rmic -v1.1 -d %cp% -classpath %cp% server.TempServerImpl> from command window.
this generated a stub file called TempServerImpl_Stub.class
I launched the rmiRegistry
To make the remote object available to recieve mathod calls from clients I run TempServerImpl.class
But ..... when I run TempServerImpl I get the exception "java.rmi.ServerException: RemoteException occurred in server thread; nested exception is: "
AND..... my stub class is deleted without any warning!!!
if I comment out the line "Naming.rebind( serverObjectName, tempServer );" after I generate the stub class then TempServerImpl runs without throwing any exception but this must be included to bind my remote server object to the RMI registry.
Any ideas what Im missing?

Are you sure that the stub is being deleted, or is it just that the exception message says it can't be found. If it's the latter it might be that the stub is not in the class path of either the commandline running the rmi registry or the commandline running the TempServerImpl. However as you are running this i assume it ok.
The code looks fine, The problem is something to do with classpaths ect.
