Application Developed in LabVIEW 8.20 (on WIn XP) will run on Windows Vista?

Hello:
I'm developing an application in LabVIEW 8.20 on Windows XP, I've
tested the executable (*.exe) on Windows XP with no problems, however,
my client is migrating the OS of their PCs to Windows Vista and I've
been asked if the application will work on Vista or not.
For my application, I'm using LabVIEW 8.20, Fieldpoint 5.0.1 and
LabVIEW RT 8.20, and a Fieldpoint controller cFP-2100 with several I/O
modules.
Does somebody know if the application may work or not?
I hope I've been clear enough. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

LabVIEW 8.2 is basically VISTA compatible and the applciation itself is therefore very unlikely to cause any problems. I frequently have developed LabVIEW applications under one Windows version and distributed it to users employing a different Windows version and never really had serious trouble with that.
What can be tricky sometimes is giving support for installation of IO drivers such as Fieldpoint since there can be subtle dfferences to how the different installation steps are supposed to be between Windows versions. But usually if you have a user who is familiar with installing software under his OS version (and can read some installation documentation) there are very few problems to expect.

  • Does LabView display the Bluetooth signal strength when running on Windows XP?

I am interested in getting the Bluetooth signal strength in a Windows XP application. I would like to use the Microsoft bluetooth drivers for my application. First, Does LabView display the Bluetooth signal strength when running Windows XP? Secondly, If it does what Windows API(s) does it use to get access to this information?

    Hi,
It does not seem like the Bluetooth VIs allow you to display the signal strength and I can definitly enter that as a product suggestion for the Bluetooth functionality in LabVIEW. For now, I would suggest going through the Windows API and searchingn for RSSI - Received Signal Strength Indication. I did not have a lot of luck in my searches through Microsoft, but you can give that a shot and post back with any more headway you make.
Also, you can try going to SourceForge.net. Just doing a search for Bluetooth and RSSI popped up several hits of code that has been developed for Bluetooth applications. Then, you can see about creating a DLL call to a particular function that will return RSSI information to you, to which
you can then use in LabVIEW with the Call Library Node.vi.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

  • SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 - code template does not work in Windows Vista

I have been trying to import a code template in SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 / Windows Vista using the following steps:
    1. Import template (xml) file using "Preferences > Database > SQL Formatter > Import..." option. Pressed "OK" button.
    2. Clicked on "Preferences > Database > SQL Formatter > Oracle Formatting".
I expected to see the new profile under "Profile" drop-down-list-box, but it does not appear there.
I tried putting the template (xml) file under various locations, including:
    (a) C:\Users\<user_name>\
    (b) C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\SQL Developer\
Please let me know any suggestions that you may have.
    Thanks in advance.

I got it to work. In step 1 that I mentioned, "OK" button should not be pressed; go to step 2 without pressing "OK" button.

  • How do I use VIs developed on LabView v8.2.1 with a system running LabView v7?

Hi...I need to use VIs developed on v8.2.1 for a Network Analyzer on another system having v7.0. Is there any way to down-convert or save VIs for previous version 7.0? I checked the 'save with options' menu but could only find v8.0 in the list of previous versions. Thanks.

    Hi Omkar,
to save it for LV 7.0 you need LV 8.0 and as far as i know LV 7.1. With LV8.0 you can save it for LV7.1 and with 7.1 you can save it for 7.0. If you have only a few vi´s you can ask someone here in the forum if he can help you.

  • LabVIEW 7.0 utilize the real-time functions in Window 2000 Real-time.

Can an application written with LabVIEW 7.0 utilize the real-time functions in Window 2000 Real-time.

The LabVIEW DATA ACQUISITION HANDBOOK (not sure of the exact title), has examples of simultaneous I/O, which is what I assume you need.
Clock- controlled analog output (to drive the stepper), and analog input (to read your inputs), sound like the ticket for you.
You could load the output buffer with a pattern that drives your stepper, and get multiple input samples for every step, all precisely timed.

  • Will Labview 5.1 run on Windows XP or 2000?

I am currently in process of upgrading my workstation from Windows NT to either Window XP or 2000. I'm currently working in Labview 7 but I have a lot of vi's that were written in Labview 5.1 running under NT that still require some support and I'd like to not have to recompile all of them in Labview 6.1 or 7. Can anyone tell me whether Labview 5.1 will run under Windows XP or 2000 before I just have to try it out and see?

It's not a problem. You can even run both LV 5.1 and 6 together (I've at least verified this on XP, but 2000 is pretty darn close). Not sure about LV 7 (or runnning all 3). You may have to tweak how Windows decides which version to run when a vi is opened.

Yes it should work, any application which is developed in LabVIEW 2010 onwards shall work on windows 8. however NI officially says 2012 onwards. Please check link below.

I have developed one application software using Labview 8.5 in which i am collecting data from 5 temprature controllers on serial line.
This software is done and successfully installed on customer side.
Now the customer want this software to be run on server and some fixed number of clients should access this with some login security.
Is this fascility available with National Instruments in which i can installed this standalone application in server and allow some clients to access this with
    proper login?
    Regards,
    Vaibhav

Yes, that is possible. Multiple clients can access the VI using Web Publishing tool and control the VI operation. However, only one client has the control of the VI at one instance. The client needs to right click on the web page displaying the front panel of the running VI and ask for control and then release control after the execution to let other clients to ask for the control subsequently. The LabVIEW VI needs to be running upon the server computer since closing LabVIEW also closes the Web Publishing server and disconnects the currently connected clients.
    Please check this link http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/3797
You might want to create a stand alone executable for the same and then publish it over the internet for access by your desired clients. In that case, check this link http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/3A0087DBE9D31F9286256B19000A2DAE?OpenDocument

  • How to start and control a WIN console application out of Labview ?

I have a windows console application, which requires user inputs (keystrokes) during the application run. Now I want to start and control this application out of labview (8.5). Has anyone a good idea, how this can be done ? The "System Exec.vi" seems to be unsuitable, because you can not pass any data to stdin during the run of the application.

Well, of course I agree absolutely with JoeLabView that Cheap + Fast != (not equal) Good. My company is a manufacturer for medical devices. These are long-living (compared to consumer electronics) and therefore it is extremly important for us that my written code is manageable, reusable and stable. Thats the reason, why I spent  time to think about the really best solution for my task here and I am very amused that we can share our knowledge here in this forum.
I also thinked about creating a DLL as suggested by smercurio. If I will solve my task in that way, I still have to remove the User Interactions and call the appropriate subfunctions directly. If a newer ART-Tool will be used in the future, this work must be repeated. It that maybe that the developer must go deeply into the coding of the tool. Nevertheless it is a possible way, of course.
Actually I thinked about a further solution I want to discuss with you. The .NET framework provides functions for redirection of standart input and output. Refer to the explanation of  "ProcessStartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput Property" and "ProcessStartInfoRedirectStandardInput Property" within the .NET Framework Documentation, there are also some examples of how to use them. With this background knowledge, I think that it must be possible to write some kind of wrapper code, which starts the tool and redirects the input/output to labview. The code maybe implemented as a DLL which can then being embedded into LV, or as a separate executable file, whereby the communication between LV and the wrapper code may be done over TCP for example. What do you think about this attempt ?
    @smercurio:
    >> trying to use the ART-tool as it is for automated testing will cause you grief in the long run ....
Where exactly, did you have the problems? Did you have the problems across multiple art revisions ? What was your "main" problem ? Please let me know your experience, cause I do not want to run into similar problems.

You need to make sure the machine have the corresponding NI-VISA installed. Check in the NI software pages for the right version.
Also make sure that the com port's can be selected when you first start the application. Eg. if you refer to VISA "COM1" on the XP machine It might be "COM2" on the Win7 machine.
