Application icon doesn't open
Today out of the blue Photoshop will no longer maximize a window minimized to the application icon.
I have tried resetting the .plist file and resetting Photoshop neither have solved the problem.
I can long click on the icon and see and open the minimized window like Expose but that's the only way I can maximize the window.
All other apps work fine. It's just Photoshop.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

JyothiShut down JDeveloper and erase <Oracle Middleware>\jdeveloper\system\system11.1.1.0.31.51.88\o.ide\windowinglayout.xml and start JDev again.
If that doesn't help...
Shut down JDeveloper and erase folder <Oracle Middleware>\jdeveloper\system\system11.1.1.0.31.51.88\ and start JDev again.
Note: you will loose all your settings in JDev!!!

Not sure what I've done but clicking on my Mail icon doesn't open my email. Any ideas?

Double clicking on icons doesn't open up applications anymore
My iMac recently went thru a electrical surge in my house that ultimately caused an electircal fire in the wall of my home. Anyway, I'm no longer to able to just simply double click on a desktop icon which, in turn, wold open up the appropriate application, and I'm not sure what to do to fix that problem. It's very unconvient to right mouse click then selct open and choose my app.
Oh, my iMac has gotten slow too.

The electrical surge probably caused a hard shutdown which resulted in corrupted caches.
For the double-click problem, go to System Preferences...>Universal Access>Mouse>Mouse Options>... and change the "Double-Click" speed.
For the slow mac try Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode. -
The Application Solver Doesn't open
Whenever I try to open the "Solver "application the most unusual thing happens. It opens Microsoft Excel instead. There's this box following with the message that the Solver quit unexpectedly and a huge log is also presented:

I'm trying to trouble shoot how it's possible that my new MP 5,1 is slow to draw simple application icons when first opening the Applications folder, I see generic icons until they resolve to the actual ones.
My previous MP1,1 with dual 8-Core upgrade never did this and this machine, Apple assures me that my new MP while only a single Quad core is a faster processor, with faster RAM and a faster Graphics Card (Radeon HD 5770).
I’m running 10.7.5 Lion but when I boot off my Snow Leopard drive (kept for needed legacy non-Lion apps), this redraw issue doesn’t happen, which I assume implies this is a software vs. hardware issue?
AppleCare suggests I do a clean install on my Lion drive, which I haven’t done over several OS upgrades, which I really should do regardless as my system software is quite the Frankenstein conglomeration by now.
But I’m still wondering, if part of the issue might be my graphics card is inadequate in the Lion environment plus running 2 monitors and should I either get a 2nd 5770 card to have a separate card for each monitor, or maybe get a 5870 for the HP 30″ monitor and use the 5770 for my Cinema Display (which is more for holding extra Desktop files and tools windows from various apps both of which are low level use).
Or is the Radeon card I’ll conceived and to do it “right” I need to swap out to a higher faster card(s).
SPECS: 3.2 Quad Core, stock Radeon HD 5770 – running a 30″ HP LP3065 & good old 22″ Cinema Display, Lion 10.7.5
I’m also wondering if I goofed not getting the 3.3 GHz 6-Core processor instead of going with stock 3.2 Quad Core?
Or since the Snow Leopard drive draws fine with no lag time, that this is in fact probably a problem with my Lion drive and a clean install should speed things up?Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
I run 10.5.1 and I have been getting a blue screen on boot that takes forever before the screen icons pop up...then I can't open them by clicking on them even though I can do so thru the finder in the dock. Any ideas how to fix? I dumped a bunch of stuff my boot drive to free up space...I have aropund 130 out of 160 gig that's available.
Go to your Applications folder where you have installed these applications that will not open. Right-click, or two-finger tap (if enabled) the application icon. Choose open, and the application will launch. This is a one-time deal, as afterwards, that specific application will launch normally.
This is an Apple security mechanism. You can override this in System Preferences > General: Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere. However, it is not set to Anywhere to protect you, and even I do not leave Anywhere permanently enabled. Only for those apps that I know are not in the App Store, and already know have this open behavior. -
App-V 5.0 SP1 application icons not showing up
Hi,
I've set up clean App-V 5.0 SP1 environment (Server, Sequencer and Clients). Published applications works when accessing them from %Localappdata%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\... folder, but for some reason the application shortcut icons are not showing
up correctly either in start menu or in desktop (defined desktop folder for shortcuts in App-V Server settings just for test).
So, there is this shortut on start menu, but it's not showing application icon and when opening shortcut properties it does not show application, it only shows "start in" folder (which is %localappdata%\etc..).
I've tried this now on Windows 7, Windows 8 and on 2008R2 server (rds client). Same "error" appears on all machines, and application icon is not showing up correctly.
MattiThat sounds very strange. Have you checked out the event viewer logs? You should enable the Advanced view and check them out. Also may be worth while making a copy of the .appv file and renaming it to zip, opening up and looking for the shortcuts in the
AppXManifest.XML file...see if you notice anything a miss there. Also the most obvious would be to take a copy of the package, open it for upgrade and ensure the shortcuts appear under Shortcuts and FTAs.

Clicking on enclosing folder's icon in the title bar doesn't open Finder
I create PDF booklet from Mellel document using PDF service. Preview application opens newly created PDF document. I Command+click on its icon in the document window's title bar, move cursor one level lower and click on the encompassing folder's ("temp") icon. I expect new Finder's window to open and show me PDF document selected. However, Finder doesn't open. Disk permissions repaired. One week old clean Leopard installation. When I click on the icon in the TextEdit window's title bar and do the same, encompassing Finder's folder opens in a new window. Word also opens Finder window. ONly Preview doesn't work. It used to work at least one month ago. Where the problem could be?

IPhoto 08 is gone...can see the icon but doesn't open. Any suggestions?
I was working on getting my Time Capsule to backup my MacBook and erased everything on there. When I restarted and got the time capsule to work i couldn't open my Iphoto anymore and cannot open any new photos that I download..
If I click on the icon it bounces then stops and nothing happens. When i search my applications folder the iphoto application is not there. When i search the "myname"macbook drive>iPhoto I can see the iphoto app. (doesn't open, crashes immediately), the contents folder (the plug-ins disabled and resources disabled items do not open)
Any help would be appreciated.Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
*What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
If that doesn't help:
Post the Crash Log.
It's at Home / Library / Logs / Crash-Reporter / iphoto.crash.log
Double click on the file and it will open in the Console. Copy and Paste it in here.

THE PHOTOSHOP ICON 64-BIT DOESN'T OPEN ANYMORE THE PROGRAM. I GET A MESSAGE THAT IT CAN NOT BE FOUND IN THE DYNAMIC LIBRARY. WHAT TO DO TO RESTORE IT AND OPEN THE PROGRAM?
Urazurrutia which operating system are you using? I would recommend removing and reinstalling Photoshop to restore the application. What specific version of Photoshop are you facing difficulties with?

Calendar application doesn't open?
My primary computer is an iMac and Calendar works fine there, but the calendar app doesn't open on a new 2013 MacBook Air under Mountain Lion 10.8.4. Error message "Can't open Calendar Cache" appears. I wanted to delete the Calendar Cache file in uername/Library/Calendar but there is no Calendar folder there. I have deleted com.apple.iCal.plist in username/Library/Preferences but that didn't help. Is there some setup I need to do to get Calandar up and running? I don't need the iCloud sync capability.
Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash.

Opening mail application from the dock sometimes doesn't open window.
In Mountain Lion, sometimes when I open Mail on the dock with a single left mouse (or touchpad) click, the Mail application opens, as shown in the menu bar, but a mail window doesn't open. I must then click or double click on it to get it to open a window. No other application in the dock behaves this way. How can I fix this?
Is there a problem with mail opening from the dock?
NOPE! Do you have open at login enabled? Is Mail listed in Login Items through System Preferences?

Since switching to Firefox this week, when I click on a hyperlink in an e-mail in Outlook, I get this message, "General failure. An error occurred in sending the command to the application." It doesn't open a new window or do anything. Any work around to fix this?
