Application in j2sdk1.4.1 to open jars
I recently have started using the command line to compile and run my Java programs instead of an IDE. In the directory where I keep my source files and .class files, I accidentally changed the "opens with" program for jar files and I don't remember what it was previously set as. Can someone tell me what program in the sdk to set as the program for opening jar files?
--Eric
I always use winZip to open .jar files.

Can't open .jar file, nothing happens when I click, MAC OS 10.6.8
Hello,
I can't open .jar file, nothing happens when I click on the .jar file.
I have MAC OS 10.6.8
The thing it, I have desktop application that I'm building on Netbeans and when I compile and deploy it... it runs from Netbeans folder where I have all the files but copying the .jar on the desktop. It says "The Java JAR file "blablabla.jar" could not be launched check the Console for possible error messages"
Any idea or solution will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
CharlesThese are Java files. http://www.java.com/en/ is where you can get the latest Java for your operating system. If your Java files need an older version of Java, there are instructions on the web to downgrade Mac Java, but it is difficult, and poses security issues.

JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0 on OEL 5 can't open jar files and dies
I have just installed JDeveloper on a OEL 5 VM, and when I try to open or create a basic application I get a series of errors claiming that that java could not open jar files, which ultimately ends in the app dying, claiming that it has too many open files. The failures below were generated using the wizard to create a brand new "Java Desktop Application (ADF)" application. I used all default values on installation, including the bundled Java SDK. I am trying to familiarize myself with JDeveloper in preparation for a new development project, and would like to use Oracle technology since Pillar is now a part of Oracle. Any help would be appreciated.

I run JDeveloper on Ubuntu without a problem, please make sure you have enough permissions on the directory where JDeveloper was installed. Also have you make the installation with the same user? What's your JDK version?

Every aspect of java works except opening .jars I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it to no avail. I am running Windows 7 32 Bit. The manifest is right and the .jar is associated with java. When I double click on the .jar Javaw runs but it doesn't open the .jar application
You need to provide more details. "Doesn't work" contains no information.
What exactly happens when you double click the jar?
Are .jar files associated with Java? There's a setting somewhere that tells Windows that .doc is to be opened by Word, .jar is to be opened by Java, etc.
Have you confirmed that the jar has a proper MANIFEST with an appropriate Main-Class entry (or whatever that entry is--I forget)?
If you created the jar from your own classes, have you confirmed that the application runs properly with the bare class files on the command line? -
Unable to open .jar -files on VisipriseMfg.ear
Hi,
Any ideas what setting will be wrong because when I hit for example nc.ejb.jar in VisipriseMfg.ear, an error pop-up (Java Virtual Machine Launcher) exists: 'Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from....'
Same problem in all .jar -files. All .war -files in VisipriseMfg.ear opened without problems.
Regards,
- JukkaAny Jar file by default is associated in Windows as a Executable Jar File. When you click it the JVM tries to launch it as an standalone application But those files are not standalone applications and they don't contain Main-Class attribute in the manifest.mf file.
If you want to open jar files with a single click you will need to associate Jar files with winrar or open them directly.
It is not recommended to modify any file or their values.

I received Multicast socket receive error when I tried to restart the weblogic cluster in our pre-prod box.
The error message I received lkie this:
Multicast socket receive error: java.lang.RuntimeException: I/O error opening JAR file from file:/vol01/sites/vinlkup/site/versionc/local_classes/VIN/DeliveryTypeLookupEJB.jar
Yuping,
What release of WLS w/ service pack are you using? Make sure, if you are using a non-shared file system, to have the same absolute paths to your application on your file systems.

I bought a second hand G4 iBook with iLife 09 on it. I have copied iLife to my new Macbook Pro. The applications would not open, so I did a software update and update all three applications, but they will still not open. Can anyone help?
The seller should have given you the original disk so that you can reinstall as needed. But it likely was a single-user license (which really means single computer) so you can only have a copy on one computer at a time. If the seller didn't give you the disk he is probably still using the software on his new Mac. Your best option to get any of the iWork apps to use in OS X 10.6.6 or later is through the Mac App Store. You can then install them on any Mac you have that has access to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID.

I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail. There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software. I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. I don't have the original operating software disk. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Your reply suggests that you have moved Mail to a different location, which (as I said) will prevent it from being properly updated. You cannot use Mail 4.5 with any recent version of Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) included Mail 5 and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) includes Mail 6. I'm assuming that you have either Lion or Mountain Lion, but if that is incorrect, you will need to provide that information.
At this point, you will need to reinstall your system. Hold down command-R at startup and reinstall the system right on top of the old one. This should not disturb any of your documents or applications, though you should have backups beforehand in case something goes wrong. And at this point, with your system in an uncertain state (I don't entirely know what you have done to it), something could go wrong.
You will also want to delete the old copy of Mail 4.5, wherever that is. You can't use it.
In the future, do not move any of the preinstalled applications. Leave them where they are. -
I am looking for an application that would allow me to open a word doc, and take notes in the .doc using a stylus pen. I'd then like to convert those notes to text, and then be able to copy / paste those notes into an email. Does this app exist? It seems like we were doing these same types of things with Palm Pilots years ago, one would think this would work with iPads?
I don't believe it will open a Word document, but Writepad allows for handwritten conversion of notes to text and then to email. Might help you some of the way...

I'm using WLS 5.1 SP8 on NT 4.0 and trying to setup a cluster. The cluster
starts fine except when I try to deploy a session bean that is marked as
clustered. I get an error about reading a jar file
(D:/weblogic/mycluster/server196/tmp_deployments/ejbjar1559.jar) that WLS
created when the server started. Every server is getting this error and I
tried setting up the same paths (D:\weblogic) but it doesn't matter. Any
ideas?

did a bug of this magnitude
get past QA. :(
