Apply update patch - July 06
I want to apply the July Update patch to my 10g r2 on RHEL3. The instructions for non-RAC environment from metalink for installation is kind of confusing. I unzip the patch to the Opatch directory, which is under the $ORACLE_HOME and it creates a 5225798 directory. I also got the latest Opatch utility, but the use of opatch is incorrect. according to the readme, I should run under the OPatch dir:
cd 5225798
opatch apply
It won´t work because cd to the 52265798, then the system will not recognize the opatch utility. do i miss something? I have run the patch lsinventory and succeeded.

I did it in another way without adding the OPatch into PATH. I followed the first step
cd 5225798
../opatch apply
it works and patch successed, Return Code = 0

Applying Updates (Patches) to Captivate 3
I need help applying patches to Captivate 3. I downloaded the
adobecaptivaeupdater file from adobe, but apparently it wants to
download files from adobe downloads. This is not an option for me
since my company has the adobe downloads page blocked. Does anybody
know where the actual patch files are? From the Oracle VM User's Guide for Release 3.1.1:
Chapter 6.9.11, Updating and Upgrading Oracle VM Servers
When an Oracle VM Server update is available, an event is posted to the Oracle VM Server and displayed in the Update Required column in the Servers perspective in the management pane. The YUM repository is checked for updates every 6 hours, so there may be a delay between the YUM repository being updated and the notification being displayed in Oracle VM Manager.

I've added the OVM 3.1.1 update repositories and the Oracle RPM-GPG key to OVMM...
Tools and Resources -> Server Update Management...but when viewing the status of the OVM 3.1.1 servers in "MyPool":
Servers and VM's -> Server Pools -> MyPool -> MyServer...OVMM 3.1.1 indicates that the server is up-to-date even though there are ~500 packages in the repository!
Have I missed a step?

Thanks for the correction. I may have seen an earlier revision. -
Documentation on how to apply critical patch updates
Hi,
Can anyone send me links to some good documentation on how to apply critical patch updates to 9i & 10g databases on both Windows & Linux?
I'd like a step-by-step explanation, with detailed examples since this is the first time I'm going to do this.
Thanks!Get the latest patch update reference number from Note:753340.1 , downlaod it (Metalink) and go through its README

Applying all update\patches during 'install software update' step
Hi,
I have created software update group (around 10 updates\patches) and deploy it to 'unknown computers' collection. Ts 'Install software update' step scans through and only installs 2 updates out of 10. I have kept deploy property as 'required' while publishing
on 'unknown computers' and 'install software update' has 'All Software update' selected (other option is mandatory update'). I want to have all the 10 required update to be installed . any idea what should be the settings on 'deploy' prperty for software group
that install all the updates in the group during 'install software update' step? Any pointers will be appreciated
Regards,Hi,
Yes , they need a reboot and reboot is happening automatically. I believe, once reboot is done, other patches should take over with installation. I don't see any information for another updates that are part of same software group. For these 2 succefully
installed updates log has below that indicates they reboot and finish.
WUHandler has log:
1. Update (Missing): Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2862330) (35dcb297-873a-45af-bb19-e8b18aedd5bb, 202) WUAHandler 2/5/2014 8:09:02 AM 2760 (0x0AC8)

I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0 version on windows 64 bit machine and later on I tried to apply the patch to upgrade it to 11.1.1.6.8 . Once I received above error , I thought of cross checking the PATH & Java_Home environment variables from my machine and below are snapshots of them.

Path: C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\RSA SecurID Token Common;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Services\IPT\;C:\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin;C:\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bin;C:\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\opmn\bin;C:\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\opmn\lib;C:\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\perl\bin;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_45\bin
below are the commands executed in the first step before applying opatch apply on 16094198

set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
set JAVA_HOME=%ORACLE_HOME%\jdk
set PATH=%JAVA_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\OPatch;%PATH%
Any inputs on how to resolve this opatch problem will be greatly appreciated. Please let us know if I have to make any change in the environmental variables or in these set commands stated above.
Thanks in advance.Heelo Srini,
I have updated my JAVA_HOME system variable in environmental variables section as stated below

Errors on applying PSU patches for GI (Grid Infrastructure) 11.2.0.3
Need help!
This is all in the version of 11.2.0.3. We created a single node GI with ASM by the user grid. Grid home is /grid/product/11.2/grid/ And oracle home created by user oracle at /oracle/product/11g. I have downloaded the GI PSU patch 16742216 for GI and Oracle DB PSU patch 16619892. I just want to apply the patch to GI home, then Oracle home with different PSU. Here is what I did after unzip the patch for GI:
1. Stopped ASM instance and stopped listener (these are owned by grid)
2. Created a ocm response file at grid home by grid user: $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/ocm/bin/emocmrsp -no_banner
3. Use the root to run grid profile to setup grid GI environment
4. Use the root to run as (as described in Oracle instruction): opatch auto /home/grid/patches -ocmrf /grid/product/11.2/grid/OPatch/ocm/bin/ocm.rsp
But got this error. For some reason it looks for Oracle home, not grid home, although I do not have any oracle home environment setup in root user:

How to apply signed patches to Studio 11 under Solaris 10?
I'm running Solaris 10 6/06 on a Sun W2100z (x86_64) workstation. I have a long history of experience with Solaris, but I'm not terribly familiar with the things that are new or different with 10, including zones and the new patch management tools.
I want to apply the latest patches to the various components of Studio 11, e.g. 120759-08,
121018-04, etc. Since all the other patches I've applied (for other OS subsets) have been "signed" patches, I was hoping to stay consisent and apply signed patches to Studio 11 too. I've been foiled at every attempt, though, so I'm looking for some help.
- if I use /usr/bin/updatemanager to select and attempt to apply the patches, I just get error
messages saying that the patches could not be applied:
121016-03 Sun Studio 11_x86: Patch for Sun C_x86 5.8 Compiler Failed
Utility used to install the update failed with exit code {0}.
120762-02 Sun Studio 11_x86: Patch for Performance Analyzer Tools Failed
Install of update failed. Utility used to install the update is not able to add packages. Utility used to install the update failed with exit code 5.... and so on.
- if I try using "smpatch" to add the patch, I get this error:
$sudo smpatch add -i 120759-08
add patch 120759-08
Transition old-style patching.
Patch 120759-08 failed to install due to a failure produced by pkgadd.

zone only, you must specify the -G option. To install the new instance
of this package in all zones you must first remove the existing instance
of this package from the global zone first (via pkgrm) and then install
the new instance of this package in all zones.
pkgadd: ERROR: package <SPROlang> cannot be installed on this system/zone- if I try to use "patchadd" directly with the jar file in the current directory, I get this:
$sudo patchadd 120759-08

Patchadd is terminating. That's three strikes, and I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions for how one goes about applying signed patches for Studio 11? I'll switch to unsigned if I have to, but this seems like it shouldn't be this hard.
Thanks,
TimI started a new thread on the updatemanager forum.
http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=107410
I found that forum by googling for "updatemanager" and "zones", but
I couldn't find any recent information on this issue. It seems the
problem has been known about for a while now.

Agents not getting SCOM UR4 Update Patch
SCOM Agents were installed manually to 20 Domain Controllers but only 5 of them have SCOM UR4 Update Patch applied
I would like to know what may be the cause of this scenario?

Hi,
While applying psu 11.1.0.7.2 on 11.1.0.7.1 i got this,
Following patches have conflicts. Please contact Oracle Support and get the merged patch of the patches :
8199107, 8833297, 7639602, 7111245, 7295298, 6972189
Do i raise SR requesting these patches. Or is there any direct link to get the merged patch of these.
Thanks,
TaherHi Taher
I just discovered another Metalink note which indicates that some patch conflicts can be ignored;
"Patch Set Updates - One-off Patch Conflict Resolution [ID 1061295.1]"
If this all gets too confusing then the best is to log an SR with a list of conflicts and let Oracle advise you further.
Regarding your new questions.
Q1). How can i confirm, i have 11.1.0.7.1. if i check the opatch lsinventory for 11.1.0.7.1 patch, it is showing in the list.
A1) It seems like this is a known problem. There is a discussion of this problem here;
http://jhdba.wordpress.com/2010/01/27/identifying-applied-psu-patches/#more-520
Apparently you can use this command (but not with 100% success);
SELECT * FROM registry$history;
You can also have a look at this note "How to confirm that a Critical Patch Update (CPU) has been installed in Linux / UNIX [ID 821263.1]".
This note says "To implement the CPU installation into each database associated to the ORACLE_HOME, the Post Installation steps must be executed as documented in the CPU README". So extra steps are required during the application of the CPU to update the registry$history.
Q2). In the document
Preparation Guidelines for an E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Upgrade [ID 761570.1]
Path E -> Section B, i have applied all the patches upto 8199107. All the patches afer this are for 11.1.0.7.0
But as i am in 11.1.0.7.1, can i still apply the remaining patches which are
8639653
8940108
9026927
9066130
9554727
9743057
A2). To be honest I am not sure what the answer to this question is. Maybe one of the other experts can answer this question.
Does opatch indicate if these patches are currently missing?
I would check with Oracle about this.
Regards
Frank
