AppServer 8 fails to start: ping failed

I have spent the last two days with my laptop at home working with the JSC. I have worked through all the tutorials, and everything works great!... At home...
I get to my office this morning, and now JSC will not work - the AppServer will not start.
We have a firewall, but port 4848 is not being blocked, and I see no messages in the firewall log that appear related.
A portion of my server log file is attached:

From the log, it appears that the port is in use? Doesn't make any sense to me...
Any help would be appreciated!

The port it's actually complaining in your log file is 1061... did you do netstat to see if it's clear? I believe one of the Installation FAQ's have information about how to use that and what particular ports need to be free in order for the app server to be "happy".

    Inside /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d there is indeed a opencryptoki.conf that is a symobolic link like this :
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   35  4 avril 11:06 opencryptoki.conf -> /etc/opencryptoki/opencryptoki.conf
    And finally here is the content of my opencryptoki.conf
    version opencryptoki-3.0
    # The following defaults are defined:
    # hwversion = 0.0
    # firmwareversion = 0.0
    # description = Linux
    # manufacturer = IBM
    # The slot definitions below may be overriden and/or customized.
    # For example:
    # slot 0
    # stdll = libpkcs11_cca.so
    # description = "OCK CCA Token"
    # manufacturer = "MyCompany Inc."
    # hwversion = 2.32
    # firmwareversion = 1.0
    # See man(5) opencryptoki.conf for further information.
    slot 0
    stdll = libpkcs11_tpm.so
    slot 1
    stdll = libpkcs11_ica.so
    slot 2
    stdll = libpkcs11_cca.so
    slot 3
    stdll = libpkcs11_sw.so
    slot 4
    stdll = libpkcs11_ep11.so
    confname = ep11tok.conf
    There is no .pacnew in this folder, so I guess something broke opencryptoki. That doesn't seem to cause me troubles right now but right now I failed to start my httpd service because of a lack of disk space. I guess that is not a good thing.
    Could someone help me ?

    Agree with Raynman, it doesn't make sense for that link to be there. That file is supposed to get a different sort of config (see `man tmpfiles.d`). I would just try:
    sudo rm /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/opencryptoki.conf
    It's not a 100% kosher solution, but it should fix the issue for now, and hopefully if the AUR package gets an update they will fix that problem.
    But mostly I'm posting because I wanted to say thanks for sharing all of your troubleshooting steps! I had an unrelated problem with my tmpfiles, searching brought me here, and your steps helped me both confirm that I had a different issue and fix my own issue.

  • App Server Fails to Start after Installation

    Hi,
    I've spent a whole day struggling with this, looking through forum discussions and trying out every single suggestion I've come across in the forums. I'm running out of ideas now and really appreciate any help I can get with this problem.
    I'm trying to install SJSC2 (also tried with SJSC2u1 with the same outcome) on a new HP notebook (nw9440) running WinXP_sp2. I'm using the default installation done by HP.
    My installation path is C:\Java\SunCreator2 (C:\Java\SunCreator2_1 for update 1).
    After the installation the App server fails to start up and gives the below error in the server.log.

    I've tried every workaround I've seen in the forums such as installing under different paths (both with spaces and without spaces), cleaning all the temporary files in the Temp directory, renaming the productregistry in the windows system directory. Each time I get the exact same error in the install.log.
    I also tried installing the stand alone SUN App Server 8.1_02_2005Q2 as well as 8.2. I don't seem to have any issue with this installation or running of the stand alone server at all on the same machine.
    Really appreciate any help I can get. TIA....
    rgds,

    Hi,
    After spending more time looking through the forum, I came across the below thread which has worked in my case (though it was suggested for Sol10x86).
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=62404&messageID=243113
    This is the workaround that worked in my case.
    > $ cd <Creator_Home>/SunAppServer8/lib
    $ mv processLauncher.xml processLauncher.xml.trayIcon
    $ cp processLauncher.xml.bak processLauncher.xml
    # If you have a domains/creator/config/domain.xml
    $ cd ../bin
    $ ./asadmin start-domain creator
    This started the app server. After that I was able to start and stop app server within the JSC as well.
    Only difference between these two xml files seem to be,
    processLauncher.xml.trayicon
    <main_class classname="com.sun.rave.tray.RavePEMain"/>
    processLauncher.xml
    <main_class classname="com.sun.enterprise.server.PEMain"/>
    Possibly pointing to a bug in the "com.sun.rave.tray.RavePEMain" class.
    Thanks for your suggestions guys... and especially to Marco and Greg.

  • Web Application services failing to start (Foundation SS, Hyperion Admin)

    Hello,
    Hyperion Essbase 11.1.1.3
    In my installation recently my web applications are failing to start properly. I'm following the start order and allowing services time to come up, but they are still reporting an error.
    1. OpenLDAP starts fine, and quickly.
    2. Hyperion Foundation Shared Services - Web Application will not start. It fails each time (as does Hyperion Administration Services - Web Application) with the same error message in the logs (see below).
    Nothing has changed on these servers in a long time. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    I have had this exact issue and it is caused by a corrupt security.xml file in Websphere. (This was in our System 9 environment)
    I navigated to D:\Hyperion\deployments\Websphere6\profile\config\cells\hyslCell
    and replaced the old security.xml file with a non 0 kb file from backup and restarted the services and it corrected the issue.
    Hope that helps!

  • Issue while installing WCS using omii.ini: Database ping failed

    Hi,
    I am trying to install WCS on local linux VM. I am following the document 'Oracle WebCenter Sites: Installing on Oracle WebLogic Application Server".
    Following are the things I have been able to do successfully:
    Install Oracle DB, create a database and then create a user for this database
    Install WebLogic server, create domain, create admin server, managed server, and finally create a datasource. THe datasource connection to the DB created in step 1 above is successfull.
    I downloaded the WCS installer from Oracle Website 'WebCenterSites_11.1.1.6_bp1'. I am installing using silent installer using omii.ini file.
    During installation, on receiving the prompt to install CS and CAS applications, I installed them successfully via WebLogic console.
    I tested the URL 'http://localhost:7001/cs/HelloCS' and it showed me the Oracle WCS 11g page.
    Now, when I go back to the wcs installation terminal and hit Enter, it gives following error:
    [2013-07-11 01:32:21.861][CS.INSTALL][INFO] 1. If your platform requires you to manually deploy the Sites application, deploy Sites now. Otherwise, continue with step 2 2. It looks like DB ping is getting failed.
    But I am not sure how to resolve this error.
    Please help. I am pasting the content of my bea_omii.ini file that I have used. (Please view as HTML, as formatting is getting lost on this page.)

    Thanks for your reply Yct.
    I got the ping issue resolved today, there was an issue in the data source. Finally I was able to complete the installation successfully.
    But there is one more issue now. After completing the installation, I am trying to access the URL to get to the WCS login page, but with no success.
    Below, I am mentioning few URLs that I tried, and the outcome:
    http://localhost:7001/cs/HelloCS ,           This URL gives me a page with some static content messages like 'Welcome to Oracle WebCenter Sites 11gR1'. Then there are some text lines in blue color. I think this page is working as expected.
    http://localhost:7001/cs/login , this URL automatically gets redirected to the URL 'http://localhost:7003/cas/login?service=http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost%3A7001%2Fcs%2Fwem%2Ffatwire%2Fwem%2FWelcome' and I get an error message 'Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:7003.'
    http://localhost:7001/cas/login, this takes me to login page, where when I enter fwadmin@xceladmin credentials, I am taken to JASIG Central Authentication Service page, which is again static, and I can't do anything on this page
    http://localhost:7001/cs/Satellite?c=Page&cid=1327351719456&pagename=avisports%2FPage%2FHomeLayout1 , this takes me to the Avisports site, which is functional
    http://localhost:7001/cs/Satellite?c=Page&childpagename=FirstSiteII%2FFSIILayout&cid=1124747609916&pagename=FSIIWrapper, this takes me to he FirstSit page, which is again functional
    Issue: I am not getting the main login page, where I would get 3 sites(Avisports/FirstsiteII) in the dropdown.
    Looks like there is something wrong going on.
    Following I am pasting my omii.ini file, if it helps:

    When you have a oracle server running on the same physical machine, why do you need client to support your needs?
    As you said, your oracle client installation might be an error, u can always point BIN on app server to your server installation and start the server.That was true up to Oracle 11.1 because the 32bit librairies were shipped in ORACLE_HOME even if that one was a 64bit installation.
    It has been dramatically changed within Oracle 11.2 though. The 32bit libraries are not coming anymore within the Oracle 11.2 64bit, you have to explicitely install a 11.2 32bit client to make it work with Peoplesoft on Windows. And configure your Peoplesoft installation to work within that 32bit client.
    Consequently, if you have all together installed on the same server (Oracle database 11.2 64bit and Peoplesoft), you must have two Oracle homes : one for the 64bit database, one for the 32bit client.
    Nicolas.

  • HelloWeb application fails to start

    I built the "HelloWeb" demo and the Deployment Progress Monitor started, but after a while (it displayed about 80% done) the message "Failed to start server Server J2EESDK Instance Deployer..." got displayed.

    Thanks for the suggestion. Although the FAQ didn't help, looking at the server log did, although it still doesn't explain the problem. I got 16 MB of messages in a few seconds, starting off with the following:

  • Again:Ping failed: Sun Application Server 8

    Hi,
    My Sun application server could not start its shows this
    ...Ping failed..
    Possible reasons include:
    -Port conflict
    -Incorrect server configuration ( domain.xml to be corrected manually )
    -Corrupted Deployed application preventing the server to start ( This can be seen in server.log file. In this case, domain.xml needs to be modified )
    How domain.xml can be modified?
    Please tell a way to get rid of Ping failure..............
    LAst lines of my Server.log file
    Priya

    Hi,
    The steps for backing up database are:
    1)shutdown pointbase server
    2)backup all database files using OS utilities like copy (e.g., files are usually in SunAppserver8/pointbase/databases/)
    3)restart pointbase server
    The bundled Pointbase database is for development only, so we do not provide support for functions that are needed in a production environment, such as backup processes.
    Pointbase does include nonstandard SQL commands that enable backing up a running database, and backing up or restoring specified tables. You can contact Pointbase directly at pointbase.com for trial downloads and developer documentation.
    Thanks,
    Creator Team.

    Can you please tell me why this error is coming and how to resolve it.

    The error got resolved..
    The files in
    App_Server\apache-tomcat-6.0.32\default\data\hypersonic
    were corrupted hence the error.
    Replaced them with the ones from a correct installation and voila!
