Archiving audit trail using data warehouse builder.

How do you archive audit trail using data warehouse builder ?
Can someone please provide any steps in archiving the audit trail table aud$ ?

Hi.
Sorry 'bout my ignorance, what is a POC?
About OWB Installation cenario, it's all up to you. If your target database is a 9i db and you don't want to have a new database instance, then you can place all OWB repositories in this instance. Remember that DB release must be at least 9iR2. For further information, check OWB Installation Guide.
You'll find all OWB 10g R2 documentation in here:
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/nav/portal_booklist.htm
OWB client may reside in any client machine or even in the host machine (if it's a windows server).
If you prefer to have a brand new instance to host OWB Repositories, you must create the runtime rep. in the target database (9i), in order to avoid loading performance issues.
Hope this helps

  • Designer Vs. Oracle Data warehouse builder

    Dear all,
Currently I'm responsible of building a Data warehousing project using Oracle database. I'm trying to decide on a tool for modelling my datawarehouse. I have two options:
    1) Designer: we have some experience with this tool and we are using it for our main OLTP application.
    2) Oracle Data Warehouse builder: we are using this to design our ETL processes.
I want to get some advice on whether the OWB is capable of modelling my datawarehouse and of doing a retrofit action. also, I try to standardize on the tools that are using in the Data Warehouse department (currently we are using only OWB).
I will appreciate for any other advice to help in my selection process.
    Best Regards,
    Bilal

    Hi,
In my experience this choice depends on the implementation of the datawarehouse. If you are building a "pure" Kimball style dimensional data warehouse you should be able to do this using OWB. I have architected such a DW in the past using only OWB, so I am speaking from experience.
If on the other hand you are planning to implement an Inmon style CIF, if your requirements includes an operational data store (ODS), or if you for any other reason anticipate that you are going to be doing a lot of ER modeling, then I would not recommend using the current release of OWB for modelling. (Note however that there are significant improvements to the modelling capabilities in the Paris release of OWB, so this may change in the future)
The advantage of improved maintainability when using a single tools needs to be weighted against the improved functionality if you choose a combination of the two. In the "two tool" scenario strict development and deployment routines need to be enforced to avoid that the model in Designer comes out of sync with the metadata in OWB. (Consider the effect of a developer making a change to a table definition in OWB and deploying it directly to the database without updating the model in Designer.)
    Hope this helps.

  • Convert Date using ORACLE WAREHOUSE BUILDER

    Hi,
I need to convert date format from 'DD/MON/YYYY' to 'YYYY/MON/DD'. The data is varchar(2) and in the database is stored as date. I am using expression component.
I used this expressionS REPLACE(TO_CHAR(INGRP1.FROMDATE), 'YYYY-MON-DD') REPLACE(TO_CHAR(INGRP1.TO DATE), 'YYYY-MON-DD') and it gave me an error: literal does not match format string.
Can anyone help me! PLEASE. IT'S URGENT

You are in the wrong forum. This is the forum for the SQL Developer tool. You wll get better answer from Warehouse Builder forums or from then SQL and PL/SQL forum.
To convert varchar to date use the to_date function, In your case something like
    to_date(date_field,'DD/Mon/YYYY');

  • Use Data Warehouse for EBS 12.1.1 Data

    Hi,
I want to create a data warehouse for our EBS 12.1.1 system.
I read some article about it, but i don't understand Where should i start?
please tell me what should i do???
i install oracle warehouse builder but i couldn't used it.
    Best Regard

    Thanks Eric for the response.
Our requirement is, in a Production instance, not to allow a DB user (APPS/SYSTEM) to see the confidential data. For example, a user who has the APPS schema password should not be able to see the salary details. However allowing the application like forms/reports/jsp to present the actual data and not the masked data.
I understand from your reply that the data masking feature CANNOT be used for this purpose as it is rebiulding the tables with the masked data. However we understand that the same feature can be used in a TEST/DEV environment so that we can restrict the developer who is working on the TEST/DEV instance, from accessing the confidential data.
Any pointers to acheive our requirement will be highly helpful.
    Thanks for your time.

contact your local oracle university or oacle learning centre and get some training on owb. But before you undertake any training you might want to be clear on the specifics such as:
    Operating system.
    Versions of DB and client.
Is there a specific reasons such as data migration from legacy to owb or development of a new dw environemnt.
What BI tool are you planning to use eg, Cognos,OBI EE ,Hyperion,BO etc.
What is typically your source system and how is the data going to be interfaced(frequency , ,data rules etc).
What is the schema architecture, Star or Snowflake.
What DW methodology do you want to use, Kimball or Inmon.
How much data are you going to work with in DW en.
Is it going to be on RAC.
Once you get your specifics right and know what you want you can get the best out of the training otherwise it will be a routine exercise of chasing something without knowing what you want to achieve.
    Trust this helps.

  • Archiving financial document using Data aging

    Hi,
reading documentation about Data archiving, ILM and SAP Hana I came across archiving of finacial accounting documents in SMART FI 1.0.
It is stated, that the archiving with the archiving object FI_DOCUMENT is replaced by Data Aging for Financial Documents.
There are also Data Aging Objects for IDOCs and Application logs, but still the corresponding archiving objects are described.
Can somebody explain to me, how data aging for FI accounting documents without archiving object FI_DOCUMNT fits to the idea of ILM?
    Kind regards
    Hajo

    Hello Gunasekar,
please check with  TC:SU53 or set up a authorization trace I assume this is  missing authorization issue on read access of archived documents.
If you have an older SAP Version please also check the settings in FB00 regarding Read Access Archive or Database.
If you have I guess 4.7 > please also select in the header of your transaction the button "Data Source" and check whether you can see the archive file and selct this file.

  • Help modifiying Data Warehouse build in DAC to follow best practices.

    Hi Folks,
I read in the documentation the following recommended tablespace configuration for the datawarehouse (below).
Can someone point me to where within DAC we can modify the create schema definitions for the warehouse to point to the various different tablespaces?
    Thanks in advance?
    Tablespace Name      List of Tables
    DIM_STG      W_*DS
    FACT_STG      W_*FS
    DIM      W_D and W_MD
    FACT      W_*F
    AGG      W_*A
    OTHER      Remaining W* tables
DIM_INDX      Indexes of W_D tables (for example, other tables would include WG and W*GS tables)
    FACT_INDX      Indexes of W_*F tables
OTHER_INDX      Remaining indexes of W* tables

    Thanks, that's helpful.
I should have probably specified that I'm on 10.1.3.4.1, OBI Apps 7.9.6.2
    I don't see a directory OracleBI>>DAC>>Scripts
Anyone else have a procedure or step doc on how to configure dac so that dimension tables are created on one tablespace and fact on another?
    Thanks

  • Data Warehouse Builder

I received this message when I attempt to deploy mapping objects:

OBE is a good start, also I recommend OWB manuals and other books on OWB and data warehousing in general. Great deal of help you can find on blogs, this forum, and oracle wiki.

  • Is the OBIEE used to create a data warehouses dynamically?

Management where I work wants to use the OBIEE Administrator to source a 3NF normalized database and create a "virtual data warehouse" in the Business Modeling Mapping layer of OBI Administrator as a Star Schema model is required by OBI Business Model layer. They claim they were told by an Oracle sales rep that the Administrator tool could do this.
Is this possible? As OBI issues only SQL and not PL/SQL how can one "create" dimensions, lookup tables and fact tables dynamically? And even if it could the performance hit to recreate the virtual data warehouse each time a query is issued would be huge.
Having used Prism Warehouse Builder and DataStage in the past to create data warehouses I am aware that one needs a procedural programming language to create and maintain the star schema tables (surrogate key maintenance, controling workflows, maintaining slowly changing dimensions, intermediate lookup tables, etc.). SQL was not meant to do this heavy lifting programming. Afterall, isn't this why Oracle Warehouse Builder and previously Informatica is shipped with OBIEE suite because OBI is not an ETL tool to create dimensional models? One uses an ETL tool to create the dimensional data model for OBI to access and pass along the metadata to OBI Answers.
So is it normal practice to use the Administrator's Business Mapping/Modeling layer for creating a virtual star schema logical tables from physical tables that are 3NF? Or is the tool used to access already denormalized tables in the physical layer that were created using Informatica or OWB or other ETL tool?

I asked an "Expert" in OBIEE. Here are snippets of his response:
"Be aware though that the transformation ability is fairly limited, and
will only really work with data that is very close to a star schema, i.e.
the data can be easily transformed through a couple of denormalizations and
table joins. If your source data is very normalized and cannot easily be
transformed into a star schema, you would need to use a tools such as
Informatica, OWB or similar to extract data from your source systems, load
and then transform it into a data warehouse or data mart and report of of
that. The more that your data needs to be transformed (i.e. the closer it
is to a 3NF model) the more likely it is that you'll need to use an ETL
tool, and a data warehouse or data mart, to host your data."
And in response to my noting the lack of documentation on how to model a 3NF to Star Schema his response was:
"No, you're right, the documentation doesn't really go into "how to" turn a 3NF model into a dimensional model. If you look back to when OBIEE was a Siebel product, the documentation was really aimed at either Siebel consultants or customers who had been on the training, they didn't want customers "off the street" to try and implement OBIEE as it would hit their services revenue. That's where the blog posts we do, things like the Oracle-by-example training courses on OTN and so on come in, otherwise as you say there's little out there on the best way to transform your model - it's mostly passed on "word of mouth" or is built up from experience on working on projects."

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder VS Oracle Data Integrator

    Hi everybody,
I have a question that wish you can help me.
we have systems of x64 so we cant use Oracle Warehouse Builder (only support on system 32 bits), someone recommend us to use Data Integrator but i don't really know this application.
Anyway ODI 11.1.X.X could it be installed in x64:
All Oracle Fusion Middleware products that are indicated as certified on x64 processor based Oracle Linux 5.5 or 5 Update 5+, 64 bit operating system, are also supported on Exalogic X2-2.
What's is the different between OWB and ODI?
I read about it and see that ODI is powerfull and it apply "Data Quality" better than OWB, is it right?
Is it possible to exp/imp with metadata loader move metadates between OWB and ODI?

    Hi,
well, the basic difference is hard to tell. ODI is based on so called knowledge module. This are implementations for physical access to all kind different database technologies (among ohter things). Therefore ODI used to be more flexible extracting data from different database technologies and also writing to them. But with OWB 11.2, these knowledge modules were integrated into owb as so-called template mappings. OWB has a stronger integration with the Oracle database and an Oracle database is always required. Oracle plans to integrate these two tools into one some day, whenever that will be. ODI offers more options for data quality (that are charged extra).
So technically, the two tools are not that different. They have different user interfaces anyway.
A big difference is the license. A basic version of OWB is included with the database license, so it can be used without extra charge. Most of our customers are using this version, even for large dwh implementations. If you buy am ETL license (or already have one), you may use both tools.
Before you decide on one of the tools, make sure you have enough manpower with the required skill available - internal or external.
    Hope this helps,
    Carsten.

  • Theoretically, may be used Warehouse Builder instead of Enterprise Link?

Theoretically, may be used Oracle Warehouse Builder instead of Oracle BAM Enterprise Link?
Interestingly, what are the Oracle plans on improving BAM Enterprise Link? Is it possible to include Enterprise Link functionality into Warehouse Builder?
I will be pleasure for any answers and thoughts.
    With best wishes,
    Sergey G.

Yes. We are looking at both the BPEL Process Manager as well as the Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) product as additional options to Enterprise Link. However, for the official plans around this, please contact [email protected] (Product Manager).

  • Problem of uploading data in Data Warehouse

I am using Oracle9i Warehouse Builder on Windows 2000 and i just started working in it. I am facing problem in uploading data from source schema to Target schema
         I) Created Source Moulde -- Link to One schema from where i have get data
         2) Created Warehouse Target Module -- I have created dimesnions , facts , Mapping and i deployed dimensions , fact and mapping. As a result of it i got dimension table , dimension , fact table , facts ,mapping package and TCL script for mapping. I deployed all of them and register TCL script with OEM .
But my job created in OEM is not running. If run then does not upload any data and If I try to run job from the backend manually then it gives me message that No active job exist..
    Thanks in advance
    Surinder

I was getting the same error. I don't know if a step failed somewhere in the install or if I missed performing a manual step but I just fired up TOAD and manually inserted a record into the WB_RT_JOB table. I set the RTJ_JOBNAME = DEFAULT_JOB and RTJ_STATUS = BEGIN. The rest of the columns I just entered best guesses. I commited and then my job would run. I guess it just needs a seed record.

  • Audit Trail - on Tabular form

Hello , I had scenario where I had to monitor the changes what the user makes.
It was easy for me to monitor in a regular form . But when it comes to Tabular form as the form does not have any page item associated.. I had to use TRigger on the table.
But upon using the trigger on table I notice that the Trigger starts mutating when Deleting the records from all the tables. Cos even the Audit trail table data gets deleted at that point. So is there any way I can monitor the Delete of records from APEX side instead of Trigger on the table for tabular form.
    thank you.

The solution (usually) to performing any DML on a table in a trigger where the table in question is being hit by both the current DML statement and also by any sort of additional DML or select in the trigger is to use "PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION;" in something called by your trigger such that the DML executes in a different session.
The gotcha there is that the separate session won't yet be aware of your current row that you're inserting/updating/deleting, so not sure if that would open up a new issue or not. I guess it depends on the details of what you're trying to do.
Try "PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION;" and see if that helps.
Here's an example of the syntax:
