Are you updating WD again or not?

This is to the team or person who monitor this thread, those who work for WD and represent WD. Will there be a new firmware update in 2015? It's been many, many months already and nothing. The insane lack of response leaves us all wondering do you actually give a **bleep** about support. I think not. Perhaps it's time to move on and boycott WD.............

WD isn't going to update it, and worse yet they probably aren't going to do us the courtesy of giving out any straight answers.  While the front line support people we deal with here and on the phone are nice enough and deserve our respect  and courtesy for that, the product managers and such who actually run the product are total idiots who don't give a **bleep** about customer frustration or loyalty, leaving a product with a last good working update, or any ranting we might do here, or to the poor support people, about them doing the right thing. For them "the right thing" is cutting bait on the product no matter how badly the last update left it, but at the same time stringing their former customers along so they don't have to have public statements out there they might have to later contradict.  They're playing the percentages (maybe even correctly from a strictly business perspective) that most consumers are ultimately forgetful/forgiving in the long run when they see a later product at an aggressive price point, so dealing with our gripes and lack of knowledge now is a waste of their time and resources. All I know is that personally, it would have to be a **bleep** of a deal for me to ever buy anything from WD again. Other companies like Apple and Roku abandon products too, to be sure, so that's not the problem, it's just the cold pure logic of how disrespectfully they've dealt with their customers here than I'm having trouble forgiving with WD.  I dunno.  I can't help but hope that the product manager for this line made a lot of these decisions unilaterally and maybe at some distant point in the future might lose his or her job over the handing of it.  But it's unlikely.  Nobody in any position of authority at WD is going to see rants here, or logged calls to their tech support even.  Or give that much weight to them even if they did.

Could you explain what you mean by "updating"? Did your antivirus pick this up while Firefox was updating or while you were browsing the Internet?
If you were browsing the Internet (While visitting the hxxp://xtrastudio<i></i>.com link), then that website was infected and not a Firefox problem. I would advise you to not visit the website again though, unless they manage to fix the infection as the antivirus managed to block it now, but it might not be able to the next time.
If it happened during the "Firefox is updating" window when you tried to start Firefox, then it pretty serious.
If you could answer that question, we will probably be able to help you. Good luck :)

  • Are you serious that photoshop does not support touch zoom and rotate??!!

I just spent thousands of dollars on a new cintiq 22hd touch and now people are telling me that touch zoom and rotate are not supported in photoshop when running it with a windows platform (only works with MACS)???!!! are you serious???!!! I just tested this out and its TRUE!!!  You can pan with touch but not zoom or rotate.  The zoom and rotate functions work in all my other programs BUT NOT PHOTOSHOP.  I even have the latest version of photoshop (CC), latest patch and all and nope! no multitouch support!
I dont know who im more pissed with WACOM or ADOBE.   Wacom's touch advertising was supposed to be their selling point! if you cant even use it with the most popular graphics program...err what's the point???  And Adobe should have provided support like what...AGES AGO...the touch tablets and cintiqs have been out for almost a year now!
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT WE LIVE IN 2013 and the best graphic hardware IS NOT COMPATIBLE with THE BEST GRAPHIC SOFTWARE on an OS (windows) that like over 50% of the population use??!!
    UNBELIEVABLE!

I do not have a cintiq however I down loaded the user manuals for the DTH-2242 and DTK-2241 and the Cintiq 22HD> the first two Interactive pen displays seem to support multi Touch where the Cintiq 22HD only seem to support touch strips.
The ones with multitouch support show this in the user manuals. On windows standard gestures are always on and there is no TAB. I would not like that.

  • Why are you updating Firefox so fast? I get problems with my Internet Bank every time before they have updated their software. And by that time you already have a new version.

I get a popup that tells there is a new version and I don't know how to get rid of it.
As I have said in the question I get problems when you are updating too many times in a year.
I didn't know where to ask this question. Maybe there is a better place, but I could not find it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did finally find out that I could uncheck Firefox update and wait until my bank have done their update. (And I can of course use Internet Explorer...) But I still think you make new versions too fast.

  • DO THIS!  Before you update!

Want a trouble free 10.4.7 update? Then do ALL of the following 7 steps. Sure, its a few extra steps, but certainly worth the trouble.
    Here the list:
    1. backup your data and/or clone your drive.
    2. Repair permissions. (before and after update)
    3. Use a utility like ONYX to clean your system caches.
    4. Use a utility like Disk Warrior to verify and/or rebuild your directory.
    5. Download the Combo updater (do not use Software Update)
    6. Unplug all Firewire and USB drives and devices from computer
    7. Run installer
I ALWAYS do all of the above before an OS update and I've never had a single problem.
Most of the time (not always,) when people are blaming Apple for problematic updates, they should be blaming themselves for not maintaining and backing up their systems properly. An OS update on top of a system with directory errors is the number one reason for erratic behavior. Disk Utility costs $100, but it takes care of directory errors. Be safe not sorry.
    Powermac G4 dual 1.25, 2gb Ram, 17 + 20 inch Apple display   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Here's the long version I posted elsewhere:
Every time an update is released, ton's of people claim it broke their system.
And, I've never had a single update mess up my computer since OS 8.1.
I just today installed the 10.4.7 update on two different machines, and both are still running as good as they were before (and actually slightly improved).
There are several things that everyone should do before installing a major update like this.
First, and foremost, if there is anything even remotely wrong in your existing installation, updating is going to cause them to show up. So, even if you are not aware of an existing problem, updating will bring it out of hiding.
So, That brings us to the first point.
    1) Make sure everything is definitely 100% perfect before you update. It will not help if anything is wrong before you get started (even if symptoms are not present, problems can be hiding somewhere).
So, fix any potential problems before you update
    2) Repair Permissions immediately before updating. This can spare you a ton of trouble.
    3) Disconnect any external accessories (FireWire & USB drives, Cameras, Graphics Tablets, etc.).
    4) Check your disk hard drive for errors. Boot up from your restore CD and Check your disk for errors using Disk Utility. Use repair if any are found.
    5) Reboot your system before installing any updates. Do not install updates while you have any programs open, or on a system that you have been using. Always reboot immediately before installing an update. This way you know that all your programs are 100% for sure closed.
    6) Disable any anti-virus program you have installed. This will ensure that your anti-virus system does not block your update from being installed properly (if it saw the activity as a potential virus attack).
    7) Never install a major update without backing up your entire hard drive to another bootable drive (such as an external FireWire hard drive). I did this twice before this update (once on each system). It only takes about a half-hour to an hour. It will save you a lot of problems later if something goes wrong.
If you have a backup, and something goes wrong, you just restore from your backup, and you're right back to where you were before the update.
Every single company will tell you to backup before you install an update. It's right there in the warning that you must click past (you just have to read it).
That brings us to the next one:
    8) Actually take the time to read that license agreement and warning that comes up on the screen before you actually install the update. Yes, it may be 10 pages long, but it's going to tell you about things you should know before you install.
    9) For OS updates, choose the "Combo" version when you have a choice (you'll need to go to Apple's website to download it).
The Delta version only updates files that have changed since the immediately prior release.
The software update version replaces even less than the "Delta" version. It only downloads the specific updates you need to go from your updated version of the current OS to the next one.
The "Combo" version replaces all the files that have changed since the major release (10.4.0).
So, with the Combo update, you will often have better success since your corrupted system files are most likely to be replaced.
The Combo update is basically almost like a fresh install that keeps your settings in-tact.
The Delta update is more like a band-aid that applies the changes.
So, go for the Combo update.
    10) After you install the update, and the system is back up and running, reboot and start up again. This clears out anything that may be left in memory from the installer (even if you just rebooted to complete the installation, reboot again).
    11) Reset the PRAM after installing a major update. This never hurts, and can clear out any small bugs stored in your settings.
    12) Don't forget to repair permissions again after the update. You can never do this too frequently. Do it often, and you'll save yourself some trouble.
Hope this helps those of you who have not yet performed your upgrade (and those of you who will install future upgrades).
These basic preparations steps will save you down-time. And, an hour or so of preparation to save 2 or more days of down-time is definitely a fair trade.
Hope this helps. Good luck all.

if you are to update your iphone and after it says the simcard inside is not supported, what can yo do?

That means your phone was hacked to unlock it.
ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
It may no longer be possible to process a legitimate unlock on a phone that was hacked/jailbroken. The hack can do permanent damage.
You can find out who it was locked to and find out if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Don't be surprised if you are never able to use it again. It may be permanently bricked.

    These are your options:
    1. Restore the iPhoto library from the most recent backup that predates the issue.
Advantages: Always works, if library damage is causing the problem and the backup is intact.
Disadvantages: Impossible if you don't have a backup. All changes made since the backup are lost.
    2. Repair or rebuild the library. Be sure to back it up first.
Advantages: May solve the problem with no loss of data.
Disadvantages: May fail. May take a long time if the library is large.
    3. Scavenge the library with a third-party application called "iPhoto Library Manager," which you can find in a web search. From the application's menu bar (not the iPhoto menu bar), select Library ▹ Rebuild.
Advantages: All images should be preserved.
Disadvantages: All books, calendars, and slideshows will be lost.

  • There are purchased items on the iPhone "asingh's iPhone" that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue?

When I am trying to upgrade my iphone to IOS7.0.2 by connecting my my iphone and macbook, it shows "There are purchased items on the iPhone “asingh’s iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue? ".  I hit the same issue and lost a lot of apps from my iphone. Can someone help on how to resolve this issue? I can automatically upgrade my software on the iphone but how shall I resolve any future updates of "Apps"?

I appreciate the answer, but what you describe is not entirely accurate.  First, to even see view, you have to enable the menu by clicking on the icon in the upper left.  View allows you to show the sidebar.
Second, you will NOT see your devise listed in sidebar or anywhere else.  Instead, you have to click on "devise" from the sidebar menu, wait a minute, and then it will finally show up under "devise."   Or maybe it just takes a minute to show up whatever you do.
Third, right clicking on your devise will take you to a menu with "transfer my files" on it, but then iTunes will refuse to make the transfer.  Instead, it will tell you that <your apps> on your <devise> could not be transferred to iTunes "because you are not authorized for it on your computer."  Apple unhelpfully suggests going to store> authorize this computer.  There is a "store" menu item on the sidebar, but it has no "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Instead, go to the horizontal menu at the upper left, and THERE you will find "store" and the "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Now you can transfer your files, to who knows where.
My iPhone 5 is my first Apple devise. So far my experience has been, to do A, which must be done right now, you must first do B.  To do B you must first do C, which is unexplained save in answers in user forums.  To do C you must first do D, which, after several hours of research and puzzle solving, can eventually be done.

When are you going to make GOOGLE TOOLBAR compatible with the latest version of firefox, i will not update to version 8 until its compatible

It's not going to happen. Google announced withdrawal of their Google Toolbar.

The Google Toolbar will not be updated for Firefox 5 or later Firefox versions. ([http://googletoolbarhelp.blogspot.com/2011/07/update-on-google-toolbar-for-firefox.html reference]) Google finally decided that their [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions problematic extension] is beyond repair for the little benefit added for Firefox users. Google as with other browsers is eliminating or making toolbars less accessible.
Consider the features that you are using and see if you can match up features from the list created by Google and by Firefox users.
