As advertised in Verizon spotlight

I received my edition of Verizon spotlight yesterday and was quite excited to see that History on demand  "Hatfields & McCoys" is supposed to be able to be viewed all summer long FREE!!!
Much to my disappointment, I went to the on demand button on my remote and looked for the program under Free and History channel, nothing listed.  Went to search and for the program and it is listed there but for $4.99.   What's the deal???  Free or not free, it's listed under the Fios summer freebies section of Verizon Spotlight.
False advertising?? or am I not doing something I should be?

Hi,
Sorry but the History Channel has pulled this show off of Video on Demand. We have requested that they put this back on but we do not have control of what they have On Demand.
Thanks,

    Does anyone know what Verizon department is responsible for the Verizon Spotlight weekly email?  I've been trying to play the Mission:Life sweepstakes game but cannot log in because something is fouled up in their username/ password authentication.  I tried customer service chat and they don't even know what I'm talkng about.  I need a contact number so I can resolve this issue.  The actual site for the game has absolutely no infomation on contact information if you experience a problem.
    Thank You.

  • Misrepresentation by Verizon - and lack of "Customer Service"

    I have tried to follow the "proper channels" and no one seems to care - so here is the letter I sent to the "Correspondence Team"  minus my personal information.
    Verizon Wireless
    Attn:  Correspondence Team
    P.O. Box 5029
    Wallingford, CN  06492
    To Whom It May Concern,
    First, please know, we have been loyal customers with Verizon for approximately 8 years; and, up until this point in time, we have been pleased with our service provided by Verizon Wireless.  With this timespan of provided service, I am estimating that we have spent in excess of $15,000 with your company.
    We have two children in college, and with their urging, we recently decided to upgrade our phones to the smart phone technology.  For years, we had been satisfied with our antiquated flip-phones.  This is where our nightmare began.  On March 31st, we saw an advertisement for Verizon that you were offering a new plan for the amount of $160.00 per month with unlimited text, talk, and 10GB of data – with a buy one get one free Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.  We attempted to explore this offer on-line; however, your website was not working.  We then saw an advertisement on your website for a phone number to call about the “Edge Program.”  We called the number and were connected with Charles Brown.  He was eager to assist us with our needs.  I do not have his employee number; however, his phone number is (888) 924-7934 ext. 8486.
    For about the next 2 hours, Mr. Brown discussed the plan with us and assured us that this was the plan that would be the most beneficial. The new plan would provide the unlimited text, talk, 10 GB of data and 4 new smart phones.   During this time, he assured us that our bill would be no more than $175.00 per month for both the service plan and the phones. He stated that we were up for renewal on several of our phones and we would receive rebates on each of these phones.  He continued to assure us that with our initial deposit on the phones and with the rebates, our total bill would not be more than $175.00 per month.  We signed the agreements with him continuing to assure us of this situation.  The night we signed the contracts, we received 17 emails regarding our new service.
    Within the next few days, we received two of the phones.  The bill that arrived stated our bill would be $240.00 for these two phones.  We contacted Charles and he stated:  “Oh, don’t worry about that!  When you have activated all 4 phones, the rebates will kick in.”  It then took an addition two weeks to receive our next two phones.
    We then received our next statement for the period of March 13 through April 12 for the amount of $380.00.  We attempted to contact Charles with no success.  We thought, well, we just activated the phones.  Perhaps, these rebates have not taken effect yet. We paid $180.00 and again attempted to contact Charles.  We have made these attempts numerous times to no avail.  Apparently, he has made his commission and is done.
    Our next bill arrived with a current charges of $278.35 with an additional past due balance of $200.04.  No credits or rebates had been applied.
    On May 21, 2014, I contacted Verizon Customer Service. After speaking with one lady, I asked to speak to a supervisor.  I was connected with Kelli (employee number 992300).  I told her of the above stated events and gave her our concerns over the fact that we had been lied to by Mr. Brown.  She placed me on hold to do “a little research.”  When she returned, I also inquired if all sales phone calls were recorded.  She stated they were.  She asked if we were offered the plan with a 2 year renewal contract and I told her that during our 2 hour conversation with Mr. Brown, that the only plan we were offered was the “Edge” program.  She then offered to switch us to a 2 year renewal service plan including the phones we had received for $183.00 per month.  I agreed to this verbal agreement.  She then asked if we had signed the Edge contract and I stated that yes we had with the assurance from Charles that we would receive the rebates. She then retracted her offer and stated the best she could do was a 6 to 12 month credit to our account.  I declined and asked her to listen to Charles Brown’s recorded conversation with us.  She stated she would and stated twice that she would call us back within one hour. It is now May 25th and we have yet to hear from her.
    After one and half hours passed, I called the customer service number again and after asking several times to speak with a supervisor, I was connected to Marcus (6805).  He did tell me that it would take up to 72 hours to research this type of request. I stated that I thought that was reasonable; however, I was promised a return call within 1 hour.  He stated he would continue to follow up on this situation.
    In all honesty, I do not expect to hear from either of these representatives.  I feel that I was make promises just to get me off the phone and they have no intentions of following up on my requests.
    We do not wish to cancel our service with Verizon; however, we are feeling that we may have no choice in this matter.  We feel we have been lied to, ignored, and unvalued as a loyal customer. I also feel that “calling customer service” would be a waste of my time and energy and would only result in further frustration and anxiety.  We contacted AT&T and they have stated they would be more than thrilled to meet our telecommunication needs.
    What can you do to help? Please review our multiple conversations with Mr. Brown.  You will then find that our concerns of untruthful statements are legitimate.  We would be more than happy to switch to the 2 year contract for $183.00 per month. If this is not available, we will be forced to switch to another service provider.
    We would appreciated any further consideration of this matter and if would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at our home number or respond on this forum.
    Sincerely,
    A Very Unhappy, and soon to be former, Customer

    Although long in your post the situation was somehow messed up.
    Like the AT&T plan you are alluding to the price is $160 plus taxes and fees per month in addition to the Edge Plan charges of at least $100 for the four phones ($25x4=$100) so that would be $260 plus taxes and fees. There could also be pro rata charges for partial month of service. First bill is higher in many cases.
    Now if you were just going to purchase four new smart phones under a 2 year contract each there is the cost per device at subsidy say $200 each or ($200x4=$800).  Plus 4 upgrade fees at $30 is $120 plus the cost of a plan you choose with shared data. So $920 plus plan say at the lowest rate share plan to be $160 plus taxes and surcharges. You would have received an invoice way over $1000.00 so you were put on the edge plan.
    You were misinformed as you have to pay a cost for each device for 20 months.
    You may have not heard that point in the conversation. Or it may not have been told at time of sale.
    I hope the letter works out.
    Good Luck

  • Why can't Verizon keep their advertisement current?

    While looking over the "On Demand" section on FIOS today(30Jun), I saw an advertisement for a Free Preview Weekend of EPIX.  After numerous tries to access the channel , and two calls to FIOS technical support, I found out the advertisement was for last weekend.   Scott, the FIOS tech support rep told me that the preview was no longer active.  I wasted over an hour of my life because of this  FALSE advertisement.  Verizon, please explain  the reasons for your failure to keep your advertisements current.  I doubt I'll ever receive an explanation from Verizon because they appear not to care.
    Respectfully submitted.

    An hour? Really? How?

  • IOS 8:  spotlight not showing wikipedia result snippets

    hi
    running 8.0.2.
    iOS 8:  spotlight not showing wikipedia result snippets.
    it does show the static Search Wikipedia link however.
    how to get the spotlight search snippets of wikipedia to show, as advertised?
    thanks

    Turn Spotlight Suggestions on and off a few times. If it still doesn't work try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till your iPad starts on it's own.
    I'm using a iPad but I can't see that making a difference.

  • WOW VERIZON

    I just made a switch from AT&T after 8 years of service due to AT&T not honoring my grandfathered data package from the original I-Phone. Upon activation, I was told by the gentlemen that started my service that I would only have to pay 92 something a month. However, later to find out that there where a-lot of hidden costs associated with the first bill. My bill was 209.12. He also stated that they could take off my 22% employee discount if I were to take a bill in after I received the first bill. However, when I went into the store at US Highway 41, learned that too was not the case. Not only did Josh Clark not handle my concerns he also stated 'I would just have to pay the bill'. Honestly, after he stated that I stated 'That was bull ****.' Not with any aggression or hostility. However, after that comment Josh told me to 'Leave his store and not to come back, he did not have to hear that language'. Referring to the comment when I said it was bull ****. I have never been more humiliated in all my life. I also work as a DJ in town and thinking about taking the story to the airwaves because these social injustices should not apply to people when they are frustrated and not getting answers. I would value a phone call back with a response to this employee. xxx-xxx-xxxx
    Thanks,

    It is definitely your right to use your position to advertise against Verizon Wireless on the "airwaves", but you have a social responsibility as a DJ to not jump to improper conclusions before you understand everything fully. Here are a couple of points that will help you:
    -The first bill will always contains the cost for the month in advance and the cost associated with the period of time between the date on which the phone was first established and the end of the cycle you were put on; this can cause the first bill to be a bit higher. The general reasoning is: because you are charged a month in advance and were not given the opportunity to be billed for the short period of time, the cost associated with the service would be forwarded to the first cycle you would receive.
    -Kindness gets better results. Some people do not tolerate foul language - I, for one, take a firm stance against it and I will confront people to stop it. People have this expectation that it is okay to cuss wherever they are at, as if they have a greater obligation to please themselves than to follow proper social protocols, and everyone else is just supposed to take it.
    If you look at your bill, you will be able to see the charges. VZW does not have hidden charges, in fact, they provide great detail about the extras and list everything on the bill, but the problem rests on the reality that people do not read their bill and, when they do, they skim through it and ignore the details that explain everything.

  • HT204053 how do I set up a sub account in iCloud?

    How do I set up a sub account in icloud?  We need three separate email addresses in this house but only have one Apple ID.  Since the apple ID is an email address, I'm sort of in a catch 22.  I can't set up individual icloud accounts because I don't have other apple ID's.  I can't get other apple ID's because you have to use one to get an icloud account... Very confusing.  Our main email address transfered seamlessly to icloud and we love it but we want to ditch our Advertisement ridden verizon email and have a separate email for my husbands business contacts and my business contacts.  Everyone says we can just sign up for other icloud accounts but... well... the whole catch 22 thing.  Someone please help, I feel like I'm chasing my tail here.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    You cannot set up subaccounts, as you couldwith the family pack for MobileMe. I'm not sure why you can't create separate Apple IDs and hence iCloud accounts, it isn't good practice to share and iCloud account between different people. All you need to do, is each create your own iCloud account, choosing your old email address when you do so.

  • Is there a way of knowing about these IMG upgrades ahead of time?

    Seriously, I did not receive any notification about this 1.9.1 upgrade in a Verizon Spotlight magazine and I have looked through each of them before throwing them out.  It could have been in the message box on my TV.  Is that how I would know about any future upgrades?
    Is there a website I can go to in the future so if I need to upgrade any of my Verizon equipment, I'll know what to do?

    That's odd but not surprising really in the scheme of other things that have been communicated poorly or not communicated at all to customers.  The main thing is the product and the deal I am getting on it.  Surprises are so often a way of life when the technology changes over the years.
    Personally, I was getting used to and enjoying the lighter blue background when the 1.9 came out this past October and now we have switched to the darker background.  Nothing stays the same.

  • Channels

    I have had fios on my TV since the end of January.  The leaflet left with me and the channel line up online are very outdated. We spent a lot of time tonight going through every channel starting at 2 until we found the TCN channel to watch the Flyers game and found a lot of channels  not listed online and also not in the leaflet .  Just wondering if maybe the channel listings need to be updated.

    I am not sure what the effective date is for your lineup. We send out monthly newsletter called "Verizon Spotlight" that has updated lineups in the back of it. Certain channels like "The Comcast Network" is a regional channel, therefore it will not be in everyones lineup. This means these channels can't be in our widespread publications. You can check the channels for your area by pressing the guide button on your remote, or by visiting http://www22.verizon.com/home/fiostv/channels/ and punching in your area code.

  • ESPN Full Court Preview/ESPN Buzzer Beater

    From the bottom of page 18 of the latest issue of Verizon Spotlight:
    "Catch the ESPN FULL COURT Free Preview January 8-14 on Channels 1010-1015."
    When I tune to any of the games airing right now, it says "ESPN Game Plan - Press OK to buy"  Looks like someone at Verizon is asleep at the switch!
    Also, on that same page, it says that ESPN Buzzer Beater begins today at 12PM ET on channel 571.  When I tune to channel 571, it says "You are not subscribed to ESPN Buzzer Beater.  Press OK to subscribe."  When I click OK, it says "Sorry, we are unable to process your request at this time.  Please try again later or call (888) 553-1555 or visit http://www.verizon.com/fiostvcentral."
    Come on Verizon, get with it!

    Not that it helps, but....I do not subscribe to ESPN Full Court, but right now here in North Texas I can see the games on 1010, 1011, and 1012. The other three channels show up but no games are currently being shown, supposed to be on later. So the free preview appears to be working here.
    I agree, Buzzer Beater on 571 says "not subscribed" don't know why.

  • How can you get someone to fix billing errors?

    I am so angry - calling month after month to get billing errors corrected. No one seems to be able to get anything done!

    VERIZON = FRAUD
    I have never had a transaction that went as discussed on the telephone. Most recently I discovered that I was paying about twice the monthly charge advertised by Verizon. No problem, we will reduce it to 60/mo. but it may take a billing cycle. I called again after it didn't appear. No problem. Now its three or four months and no 60/mo.
    I give up. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH VERIZON AGAIN ONCE THEY RELEASE ME FROM BONDAGE.
    Have any of you found that the well documented discussion on their computer diappears within a month.  Oh, I'm sorry, but you never had that conversation. In fact you NEVER ever called us. You must be a happy camper.
    FRAUD IS A VERY PERSONAL JUDGMENT. I am just wondering whether any of you think that Verizon conducts its billing office in a fraudulent manner.  Maybe you think they are just incompetent. Maybe you think they are great. Let me know what your description is.
    Also, let me know how many of you would terminate their contract tomorrow if they eliminated termination fees?

  • Jetpack MIFI 4510L

    In November of 2011, I received a advertisement  from Verizon stating that I could upgrade my present Verizon
    Wireless Fivespot which is 3G for a Verizon Jetpack  4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MIFI 4510L free. I made the switch and
    used it in my home in Nebraska for about a month  and a half before going on the road in my motor home heading to
    California for the winter. From the start, I have  had problems with the MIFI disconnecting from the internet.
    Constantly. Access will go from "Local and  Internet" to "Local only" or "Connected with limited connectivity".After
    fiddling with connect/disconnect which sometimes  takes anywhere from a few seconds to a couple minutes, I may
    regain a connection. It is very frustrating when  trying to pay bills on line or fill out forms, etc. When I arrived
    in CA, I went to a Verizon store and eventually got  them to order me a replacement. Same problem. I am now on my
    third replacement (fourth MIFI) and another  replacement is on the way as I write this. I'm a 13 year veteran of
    Alltel/Verizon and have not used any other wireless  service. I asked the rep at Verizon if I could get the latest
    Jetpack 4620L since the 4510L wasn't working. I  thought I had an agreement to get one as a replacement with just an
    extension of the two year agreement, but then I was  told I would have to pay a reduced price for it. I didn't go
    for it, so now a 4510L replacement is on the way.  Another problem with this device is the constant switching
    between 4G and 3G. I've been parked in the Monterey  Elks Lodge parking lot since Dec 26th and the light blinks
    green when 4G and purple when 3G. It goes back and  forth continuously. At one time or the other, all devices that I
    have had have had the firmware upgraded at the  store and at least two sim cards replaced. Two trouble tickets were
    issued, the first lost and I've not been contacted  about the second one although it's been a couple weeks since the
    second ticket was issued. There seems to be some  serious design or manufacturing problems or both with the 4510L.
    It looks as if I'm going to be stuck with this  device unless I want to just dump it and take my penalty. Is there anything else that I can do?

    I
    After I sent the message below, I received my replacement MIFI and on the plastic sleeve that it was in there was a decal which
    among other info on it stated that the firmware was 2.28 so we'll now see if
    that solves my problem. I went to the 192 site and verified that the FW is indeed
    2.28. Will let you know how this new (reconditioned) device works.
    Charles
      I tried switching to 3G only and it work for quite awhile, but then started dropping the connection. It was obviously a lot slower with 3G. Went back to 4G and into the 192 site and checked for new updates. It says that there are no new updates available. I had the Verizon store update the Jetpack when I received it as my third replacement. The 192 site shows an AP FW version 2.10-3.0.0.5 and a modem FW version 2.23.01. I think the later is the one you're talking about. If it is, then I guess that I'll have to take it back and specifically ask them to upgrade to 2.28. Still waiting on the next device. Thanks for your help.

  • Rewards program is a fake!

    Today I decided to look a little further into the Rewards points program that is being advertised through Verizon. I got an email about a week ago and at first ignored it thinking it would be useless, but after seeing so many commercials I looked into it. It is such a farce! I travel often to visit family so I checked into the offers they had to get discounts on rental cars. It showed me a rate for budget rental car that they said I would get if I used 6,600 points. I opened up budget's website directly and also kayak and was able to find the exact same rate without involving any points program. It's fake. They are offering a deal when in fact there is no deal at all. Verizon has done many shady things before, but this is ridiculous. It took me two seconds to find the great "deal" they were promoting on my own.

    After participating in a few "auctions," we have decided to opt out of the "Smart Rewards."  We now get telemarketing calls like crazy & after trying a few auctions have decided they are not worth the privacy trade-off.
    "Reward" items are either a minuscule discount OR low-value auction items that are impossible to actually win.  People are either using software to win or they are stay-at-home hermits that live on their laptops.  Some of us have JOBS/can not sit here 24/7 frantically hitting the "place bid" key.
    How about some straight-forward options, such as $10 gift certificate for x amount of points for us non-hackers with a life??  It would be nice if your honest, decent, loyal customers could actually get a reward!

  • Switch, Package hitTest

    Hi, I am near the beginning of the learning curve for AS3.
    The little project I have set myself is to create a weekly based calander.
    And for each day I want to add an image that shows the weather.
    I have the images
    I have a prev and next button that scroll the weeks
    I have switch statement that changes the dates and months based on the week number
    I have a circle under each week day called sun_mc, mon_mc  etc for the image to go into them
    All of this is in the Action Frame and is working ok
    In an .as file package I have
    A hitTest that centres the image in the circle for that day
    What I am trying understand now is
    Is how to use the hitTestObject with two arrays. One array will contain reference to the weather images eg sun_mc, cloud_mc, rain_mc, snow_mc. And the other array will refer to the circle mc for each day eg  sun_mc,mon_mc, tues_mc  etc.
    Below is the relevant code
    This line is in the Action Frame
    cloud_mc.target = sun_mc;
    The package file for the DragDrop. At the moment I have it working for a one to one outcome. eg i can drag the cloud_mc to touch the sun_mc and the cloud_mc will centre into the cirlce for sun_mc
    package
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    import flash.events.Event;
    public class DragDrop extends MovieClip
      public var target:MovieClip;
      private var originalX:Number;
      private var originalY:Number;
      public function DragDrop()
       originalX = this.x;
       originalY = this.y;
       this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, drag);
      private function drag(event:MouseEvent):void
       this.startDrag();
       this.parent.addChild(this);
       this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, drop);
      private function drop(event:MouseEvent):void
       this.stopDrag();
       this.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, drop);
      if(this.hitTestObject(target))
        this.x = 19;
        this.y = 152;
       else
        this.x = originalX;
        this.y = originalY;
    Any tips on how to learn about drag/droping many items onto different targets would be appreciated.

    I ran into the same issue 2 months ago. After Verizons Spotlight news letter was released saying OAN was in HD as part of the Extreme package I tried viewing it with no success.
    I spent over an hour with a tech who said my channel modules were not set up correctly so he fixed it.
    Still couldn't get the channel and instead of admitting that they had no clue what to do the response I recvieved was, "Sorry the channel is no longer available to you as part of Extreme."
    So they were saying the channel which according to the Spotlight newsletter that they released and the online channel lineup which listed it as part of Extreme changed while I was chatting with them.  LOL
    After that response they rushed me out of chat.
    I ended up downgrading back to preferred. I wasn't about to pay for channels they say I should have but don't. It's still listed on all channel lineup's (paper included) as part of Extreme too. It seems the Extreme package is full of channel issues for a lot of people (was my 2nd one...had an issue with Hallmark channels) so it's better to stick with preferred or go all the way to Ultimate in my opinion.

  • Do Verizon customers have any legal recourse in response to the false advertising of iPhone ship dates, as well as de-prioritizing existing customers in the fulfillment order?

    9/19 guaranteed ship date, seems like a clear cut case of "bait and switch" on top of the customer service failure.
    State and federal laws are in place to protect consumers from false or misleading advertising. These laws make deceptive claims illegal. No business may make false, misleading, or deceptive claims about a product regarding its:
    Price
    Quality
    Purpose
    Consumers who are victims of false or misleading advertising should contact an experienced lawyer to find out about his or her rights and actions that can be taken.
    False advertising is any published claim that is deceptive or untruthful. Misleading advertising is any published claim that gives a consumer an incorrect understanding of the product they are interested in purchasing or using. The false and misleading advertising by companies of any product may result in the consumer suffering a financial loss, or another form of damage to the consumer.
    The financial losses or damages acquired by a consumer due to the false or misleading advertising may not be significant. However, this is not a cost that any consumer should have to endure. Consumers who have suffered from financial losses or other damages may participate in a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for any losses incurred.
    The Types of False and Misleading Advertising Tactics
    There are several types of false and misleading advertising tactics used by companies to lure in unsuspecting consumers. Some of these tactics include:
    Bait & Switch Advertising
    High-Pressure Sales Tactics
    Deceptive Form Contracts
    Artificially Inflating Prices
    Failure to Disclose
    Bait & switch advertising is the advertising of a product that the business does not provide or does not intend to sell. Businesses usually lure consumers into stores by promising to sell or provide an item or service at a certain cost. Once the consumer is in the store, the business tries to sell the consumer a more costly item or service.
    High-pressure sales tactics are used to get consumers to purchase a service or product that he or she does not want or does not intend to purchase.
    Deceptive form contracts have ambiguous promises or fine print in their contracts that are usually overlooked or misunderstood.
    Artificially inflating prices is used by businesses to give the illusion that a great deal on a product or service is available.
    Failure to disclose is a term used for when a business does not inform consumers when an item or service is currently unavailable, or when an offer has expired.
    Consumers may be awarded a variety of remedies against any business that engages in false or misleading advertising. These remedies may include:
    Monetary damages
    Injunctions ordering the businesses to stop running the advertisements
    Injunctions ordering the businesses to stop engaging in deceptive practices
    Injunctions ordering the businesses to include disclosure statements in their advertising

    Good luck in proving that they purposely deceived you, me, and anyone else still waiting.  I'm would guess that they were told by Apple to expect a certain amount devices, and when that amount fell short...well guess what happens...backorders and furious consumers.  Was I upset that I had trouble pre-ordering...yes.  Was I a bit bothered when my ship date moved...you betcha!  Will my world come to an end if I don't have my new iPhone today...nope, not at all.  I'm not saying you shouldn't be bothered but it's not like it's a limited edition device and they're only producing so many.  Everyone who wants one will eventually have the opportunity to get it...some of us will just have to wait a little longer.  I'm in no way telling you not to be upset, after all, you're entitled to your own opinion and feelings...I just know that my energy could be better used on something more productive than being angry at Verizon.   After all, I know they're not sitting on a boat load of phones just pointing at laughing at the fact that I have to wait.  When they have it, they'll ship it.  I'll get mine and I'm sure if you hang in there, you'll get yours too.  Have a great evening and smile...life's much to short to spend any moment being upset over something as simple as a delayed phone.
