[AS CS3] getting the xml value?

I'm having trouble returning the "Value" of my xml object. I can get all sorts of other attributes. I need to be able to return the value "123456". I must be missing something, or is this a real shortcoming?
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
tell document 1
get associated XML element of first page item
--> XML element id 12 of XML element id 2 of document "Untitled-8"
get XML attribute 1 of associated XML element of first page item
--> XML attribute "TCnumber" of XML element id 12 of XML element id 2 of document "Untitled-8"
get properties of (get XML attribute 1 of associated XML element of first page item)
--> {value:"123456", parent:XML element id 12 of XML element id 2 of document "Untitled-8", index:1, name:"TCnumber", object reference:XML attribute "TCnumber" of XML element id 12 of XML element id 2 of document "Untitled-8"}
get name of (get XML attribute 1 of associated XML element of first page item)
-->TCnumber
get index of (get XML attribute 1 of associated XML element of first page item)
-->1
get value of (get XML attribute 1 of associated XML element of first page item)
--ERROR
end tell
end tell

That's a nice one.
The "get value" event takes precedence, it is probably understood by ScriptArg.
For insiders: kGetValueScriptArgEventScriptElement
You can use round brackets to disambiguate:
get (value of ...)

  • How can I get the text value of an XML element  in MXML ?

    Hi,
    I have the following XML loaded into a variable of type XML :
    <properties>
         <comment>RIMpro Data Collector Configuration</comment>
         <entry key="server.pear.username"/>
         <entry key="server.apple.retry.times">5</entry>
         <entry key="rdc.proxy.host">http://192.168.1.2:8080</entry>
    /properties>
    I can easily get the key attribute displayed in a DataGridColumn by setting the dataProvider to my variable and the dataField to "@key".  But I do not know how to get the text value in a second column...  Is there a way or do I need to change my XML to something like this :
    <properties>
         <comment>RIMpro Data Collector Configuration</comment>
         <entry key="server.pear.username"/>
         <entry key="server.apple.retry.times" value="5"></entry>
         <entry key="rdc.proxy.host" value="http://192.168.1.2:8080"></entry>
    /properties>
    Many thanks in advance.
    Marc

    yes, you'd better modify your XML structure to fit the DataGrid internals.
    Since dataField pattern require each grid row item to have a named property to be displayed, otherwise you'll be forced to overcome this pattern using custom labelFunction for the particular column which will implement your custom actions on how to extract appropriate data for that column out of grid row item. It will be much more complicated than just rearranging your xml structure.

  • How to get the attribute value of an XML file??

    How to get the attribute value of an XML file??
    For example, how to get name and age attributes?
    <student name="Joe" age="20" />

    What are you using to read the XML file??
    On the assumption of JDOM - www.jdom.org. Something along the lines of:SAXBuilder builder = new SAXBuilder(true);
    Document doc = builder.build(filename);
    Element root = doc.getRootElement();
    List children = root.getChildren();
    Element thisElement = (Element)children.get(n);
    String name = thisElement.getAttributeValue("name")
    try
         int age = Integer.parseInt(thisElement.getAttributeValue("age"));
    catch (Exception ex)
         throw new InvalidElementException("Expected an int.....");

  • Use DOM to get the element value of XML document?

    I can not to use the method getNodeValue to get the element value of XML document. How can I do for it?
    For example, for element
    <address>125 Smith Avenue</address>
    how to get the value "125 Smith Avenue" by using DOM?
    Thanks

    Thanks for all of you.
    The code indicates that I need to get the node by tag name. If I do not know the distribution of the elements and want to traverse all nodes. If the node contains value, I retrieve the value. How to implement the general case.
    For example, my XML file represent a directory hierarchy and looks like
    <root>
    <usr>
    <user>user1
    <file>file1</file>
    <file>file2</file>
    </user>
    <user>user2
    <file>file1</file>
    <file>file2</file>
    <file>file3</file>
    <file>file4</file>
    </user>
    </usr>
    </root>

    Please help me .

    You are not able to get the returned value because if you see the Remote object help you will realise you have to use result="resultfn()" and fault = "faultfn()"
    In this you define what you wish to do.
    More importantly in the remote object you need to define which method you wish to call using the method class like this
    <mx:RemoteObject id="remoteObj" destination="sro" result="r1" fault="f1"  >
         <Method name="javaMethodName" result="r2" fault="f2"/>
    <mx:RemoteObject>
    r2 is the function where you get the result back from java and can use it to send the alert.

  • How to get the Node Value from XmlValue result?

    Hi ,
    I am not able to get the Node Value from the result. In my XQuery im selecting till a Node, if i change my query as
    collection('PhoneBook')/phone_book/contact_person/address/string()", qc);
    im getting the node value, but here the problem is its not a Node so i cannot get the Node name.
    So how can i get the Node Name and Node value together?
    any help please ????
    XML :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <phone_book>
    <contact_person>
    <name>
    <first_name>Michael</first_name>
    <second_name>Harrison</second_name>
    </name>
    <address city="yyyyy" pincode="600017" state="xxxxx">
    176 Ganesan street, Janakinagar, alwarthirunagar
    </address>
    </contact_person>
    <phone_number type="mobile">9881952233</phone_number>
    <phone_number type="home">044-24861311</phone_number>
    <phone_number type="office">080-12651174</phone_number>
    </phone_book>
    Code:
    XmlQueryContext qc = manager.createQueryContext();
    XmlResults rs = manager.query
    ("collection('PhoneBook')/phone_book/contact_person/address", qc);
    while(rs.hasNext()){
    XmlValue val = rs.next();
    System.out.println(val.getNodeName() + " = [ " + val.getNodeValue() + " ] ");
    Output
    address = [  ]

    You are right, this seemed un-intuitive to me too, but I finally understood how it's done.
    The "value" of a node is actually the total amount of text that is not contained in any of the node's child nodes (if any). So a node with child nodes can still have text value.
    To get the 'value' of an element node, you must therefore concatenate the values of all children of type "XmlValue::TEXT_NODE", of that node. Try it.
    In your example, the <address> node has no child elements, my guess is that BDB XML stores the address string "176 Ganesan street, Janakinagar, alwarthirunagar" inside a child node of <address> node (of type XmlValue::TEXT_NODE) because you wrote the string on a separate line.

  • Get the current value of a managed bean.

    Hi guys
    I have a register page which takes the Login ID and the password and retype password whose values are stored in the "Managed Beans" in registerServer.java.
    I have a (PwdValidator.java) Custom validator for Re-type Password which validates itself against the password.
    Now my problem is from the PwdValidator.java how can I access the value of the password which is stored in the managed bean in registerServer.java.
    here is a copy of my faces-config.xml
         <managed-bean>
              <managed-bean-name>registerServer</managed-bean-name>
              <managed-bean-class>com.sun.registerServer</managed-bean-class>
              <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
         </managed-bean>
    Help is really appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Chaprasi Baba

    Thanks for the reply but my question is how do I get
    the password value from the managed bean
    FacesContext context =
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    Application application = context.getApplication();
    CountryValueObject registerServer =
    (CountryValueObject)application.getVariableResolver().r
    solveVariable(context, "registerServer");
    String pwd = registerServer.password // So will this
    give me the current value for that session.You didn't go far enough in replacing the example code . Try this:
    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    Application application = context.getApplication();
    RegisterServer registerServer = (RegisterServer)application.getVariableResolver().resolveVariable(context, "registerServer");
    String pwd = registerServer.password // So will this give me the current value for that session.

  • Getting the field value of a clicked on pie slice in a pie chart?

    I have tried and searched for hours and can not get this
    simple little thing to work.
    I have a pie chart with the following event handler:
    itemClick="chart_click(event)"
    The pie series comes from a simple httpservice that has a
    country and a count:
    <mx:PieSeries
    field="count"
    nameField="value"
    labelPosition="callout"
    calloutGap="5"
    labelFunction="display"
    showDataEffect="{interpolate}">
    All I want to do is capture the value of the nameField (EG:
    Canada)
    I have no problem getting the index of the selected series
    but I can not get the nameField value of that slice. This is what I
    have:
    public function chart_click(e:ChartItemEvent):void
    Alert.show(searchByPieChart.series[e.hitData.chartItem.index].nameField);
    All I get is the string "value" which is the name of the xml
    tag bound to the nameField. What do I need to do ?

    Uggg.
    I got it:
    Alert.show(e.hitData.item.value);

    When I run this app, The StockAssembler on the server work
    correctly (i use printout to debug) . But variable stocks can't get
    the return value,it is a empty list.
    Please help me!

    Hi,
    The executeQueryAsync method is “asynchronous, which means that the code will continue to be executed without waiting for the server to
    respond”.
    From the error message “The collection has not been initialized”, which suggests that the object in use hadn’t been initialized after the execution of the executeQueryAsync method.
    I suggest you debug the code in browser to see which line of code will throw this error, then you can reorganize the logic of the code to avoid using the uninitialized object.

  • Runtime error to get the attribute value of an element

    any ideas? Thanks!!

    [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/NullPointerException.html]java.lang.NullPointerException
    Thrown when an application attempts to use null in a case where an object is required. These include:
    Calling the instance method of a null object.
    Accessing or modifying the field of a null object.
    Taking the length of null as if it were an array.
    Accessing or modifying the slots of null as if it were an array.
    Throwing null as if it were a Throwable value.
    You know what line it happens on, so you know which of these cases applies. So you know that variable "element" is null at that point. How could it come to be null? You assign to it only once, two lines above. How could that assignment be null? Check the documentation for [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/org/w3c/dom/Document.html#getElementById(java.lang.String)]org.w3c.dom.Document.getElementById().
    Repeat every time you get one of those exceptions.

  • How to get the attribute values out?

    Hi everyone,

    <subcategory>aaa</subcategory>
    <subcategory>bbb</subcategory>
    </category>
    </root>
    How to get the attribute values out? For example "Mens
    Clothing" and "Womens Clothing".
    // the line below returns "Active/Baselayer Tops" and
    "Active/Baselayer Bottoms"
    var myXml:XML = new XML(event.result);
    Thanks,

    Here is attribute identifier operator from FB Help:
    @ attribute identifier Operator
    Usage myXML.@attributeName
    Identifies attributes of an XML or XMLList object. For
    example, myXML.@id identifies attributes named id for the myXML XML
    object. You can also use the following syntax to access attributes:
    myXML.attribute("id"), myXML["@id"], and myXML.@["id"]. The syntax
    myXML.@id is recommended. To return an XMLList object of all
    attribute names, use @*. To return an attribute with a name that
    matches an ActionScript reserved word, use the attribute() method
    instead of the @ operator.
    Operands attributeName:* — The name of the attribute.
    Example
    How to use examples
    The first example shows how to use the @ (at sign) operator
    to identify an attribute of an element:
    var myXML:XML =
    <item id = "42">
    <catalogName>Presta tube</catalogName>
    <price>3.99</price>
    </item>;
    trace(myXML.@id); // 42The next example returns all attribute
    names:
    var xml:XML =<example id='123' color='blue'/>
    var xml2:XMLList = xml.@*;
    trace(xml2 is XMLList); // true
    trace(xml2.length()); // 2
    for (var i:int = 0; i < xml2.length(); i++)
    trace(typeof(xml2
    )); // xml
    trace(xml2.nodeKind()); // attribute
    trace(xml2
    .name()); // id and color
    } The next example returns an attribute with a name that
    matches a reserved word in ActionScript. You cannot use the syntax
    xml.@class (since class is a reserved word in ActionScript). You
    need to use the syntax xml.attribute("class"):
    var xml:XML = <example class='123'/>
    trace(xml.attribute("class"));

  • ABAP Proxy Client how to get the XML

    Hi all,
    I have created a Proxy Client by SE80 using the WSDL file, I no have any middleware as PI etc.
    Testing it I'm facing with an error occurred on the server side. So the developers asked me to send them the full XML message with whom I call the service.
    From se80 I can see only the body of the request I guess.
    So I'm tring to understend where I can get the whole XML.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Pasquale.

    I'm not an ABAP programmer.
    If I have to test a webservice, provided by sap system or other system, I always use soapui from www.soapui.org
    In soapui
    * create new soap project
    * point to wsdl file
    This will automatically create a sample xml request message for the webservice.
    You can edit the request message and put in the values you want.
    If required, fill user credentials into the request properties.
    Then send the request message.
    You will get the xml response message.
    If the service works fine with soapui, then the problem is at your side (abap proxy, apap code behind the proxy).
    If you can reproduce the error with soapui, then the problem is at the side of the service provider.
    I don't have permission for SPROXY at our sap backends. Perhaps there is a "test interface" function, which shows the xml messages.
