ASA 5505 Backup Config to TFTP Server
Is there a way to backup the configuration file to a tftp server? I've tried "copy start tftp" and copy run tftp". No luck, I get an error message. Thanks in advance.
What kind of error message did you get?
ciscoasa# write net ? WORD IP address of tftp server and file name :. Place IPv6 address within square brackets.

ASA 5505 as a SSL VPN Server and Easy VPN Client at the same time?
Is it possible to configure and operate the ASA 5505 as a SSL VPN server and Easy VPN Client at the same time? We would like to configure a few of these without having to purchase additional ASA 5505 and use a 2 device method (1 SSL VPN Server and 1 Easy VPN Client). Thanks in advance.
I don't think it is possible. Following links may help you

Hello,
I have setup ASA 5505 with 2 ISP, named outside (primary) and backup, the scenario is if outside down, then backup will take over, it works now.
But it is not working when the primary connection cannot reach the gateway with the interface still up.
Is it possible when the primary connection cannot reach the gateway then backup automatically take over?
Thanks before..
My configuration is:

ASA 5505 - Backup and restore to another device of same model and version
How can I backup the configuration of the ASA 5505 on 8.x and restore it to another ASA 5505 with same version? I have tried to save the running config to a file and then copy it to the new device and use the boot config: filename but it doesn't work. Or is there any other way to try? Thanks.
Thanks Andrew, I had tried it but I was having issues with the fact that I kept both ver 7 and ver 8 of the OS images on the flash. So it booted from the first found (ver 7) and creating confusion for me as the config file was for ver 8.
I noticed that it keeps the 192.168.1.1 IP even though in the config file it has another IP assigned. Is there other things that I need to check that do not change apart the IP address?
Thanks. -
Problem with ASA 5505 VPN config
Hi to all,
I have a problem with ASA 5505 remote access vpn. I have site-to-site VPN and I need that my VPN clients can access IP subnets that I have behind site-to-site VPN. All that I have tried I get and error to my log “Flow is a loopback”.
So what I need : for example I need that vpn client with ip 10.0.0.1 can go to 192.168.1.2
My config:
access-list Test_splitTunnelAcl standard permit host 10.0.2.3
access-list Test_splitTunnelAcl standard permit host 10.0.2.4
access-list Test_splitTunnelAcl standard permit 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
access-list nonat_outside extended permit ip 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
ip local pool VPN_Client_Pool2 10.0.0.1-10.0.0.200 mask 255.255.255.0
nat (outside) 0 access-list nonat_outside
nat (outside) 1 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
vpn-tunnel-protocol IPSec
split-tunnel-policy tunnelspecified
split-tunnel-network-list value Test_splitTunnelAcl
Site-to-Site:
crypto map outside_map 3 set peer 195.233.x.x
access-list outside_3_cryptomap extended permit ip object-group DM_INLINE_NETWORK_2 object-group DM_INLINE_NETWORK_4
object-group network DM_INLINE_NETWORK_2
network-object 10.0.2.0 255.255.255.0
network-object 10.0.3.0 255.255.255.0
object-group network DM_INLINE_NETWORK_4
network-object host 192.168.2.70
network-object host 192.168.3.55
network-object 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
I hope that someone can post an answer and solve my problemA few things are required:
1) You don't need the following 2 lines, so it can be removed:
nat (outside) 0 access-list nonat_outside
nat (outside) 1 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
2) On the ASA, you need to configure:
same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
3) Object group: DM_INLINE_NETWORK_2 needs to include 10.0.0.0/24
4) On the remote lan-to-lan end, the crypto ACL also needs to include 10.0.0.0/24 as the destination subnet.
5) The NAT exemption (NONAT) on the remote lan-to-lan end also needs to include 10.0.0.0/24 as the destination subnet.
Hope that will resolve your problem. -
Hello i have two ASA5505 .
On one i have erased disk0 and i can't access it over ASDM...
I have copied the 2bin files asa-k8.bin and asdm-k8.bin from the working ASA to the ereased still no ASDM...
My questions are :
Are the licenses gone?
What should i do to fix it?
I have a backup.zip from the working one. Can i import it in the ereased with CLI ?
ThanksHello,
Can you share to the community how you did it ?
So if someone having the same issue can fix it with this

Using an ASA 5505 as a Certificate Authority and Distribution Point?
I had a question about the limitations of an ASA 5505 and using it as CA. The setup would be as follows:
2 ASA 5520's in set up for high availability failover.
1 ASA set up with a local CA server.
If I had to set up VPN to connect to an interface on the ASA 5520's and wanted to require certificates as a secondary authentication could they use an ASA 5505 as a CA to retrieve and verify stored certificates? The issue I ran in to was not being able to set up a local CA server on the failover pair and was hoping to use an ASA 5505 with a local CA server to act as a distribution point. I have been researching various configurations similar to this but have not found definitive information if it is even possible.
If someone could verify if this is even possible and / or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
RickYou can only create self signed certificates using the ASA, or import a identity certificate from a 3rd party CA. The ASA unfortunately can only issue user certificates to users or PCs via downloading from a website, they cannot complete CSR requests.

I need helping configuring RDP access to my local server from a remote location on my Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall.
I have attempted to configure rdp access but it does not seem to be working for me Could I please ask someone to help me modify my current configuration to allow this? Please do step by step as I could use all the help I could get.
I need to allow the following IP addresses to have RDP access to my server:
66.237.238.193-66.237.238.222
69.195.249.177-69.195.249.190
69.65.80.240-69.65.80.249
My external WAN server info is - 99.89.69.333
The internal IP address of my server is - 192.168.6.2
The other server shows up as 99.89.69.334 but is working fine.
I already added one server for Static route and RDP but when I try to put in same commands it doesnt allow me to for this new one. Please take a look at my configuration file and give me the commands i need in order to put this through. Also please tell me if there are any bad/conflicting entries.
THE FOLLOWING IS MY CONFIGURATION FILE
Also I have modified IP information so that its not the ACTUAL ip info for my server/network etc... lol for security reasons of course
Also the bolded lines are the modifications I made but that arent working.

ciscoasa(config-network)#Unclear what did not work. In your original post you include said some commands were added but don't work:
static (inside,outside) tcp interface 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
and later you state you add another command that gets an error:
static (inside,outside) tcp 99.89.69.333 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
You also stated that 99.89.69.333 (actually 99.89.69.233, guessing from the rest of your config and other posts) is your WAN IP address.
The first static statement matches Cisco's documentation, which states that a static statement must use the 'interface' directive when you are trying to do static PAT utilizing the IP address of the interface. Since 99.89.69.333 is the assigned IP address of your WAN interface, that may explain why the second statement fails.
Any reason why you are using static PAT (including the port number 3389) instead of just skipping that directive? Static PAT usually makes sense when you need to change the TCP port number. In your example, you are not changing the TCP port 3389. -
I have ASA 5505 8.4. How to configure the switch to the backup channel to the primary with a delay (for example 5 min.) using the SLA monitor?
Or as something else to implement it?
My configuration for SLA monitor:

sla monitor schedule 123 life forever start-time now

thank you for your answer :-)
I have deleted all such attempts not working, so a packet-trace will be not very useful conent...
Here is the LogLine when i try to browse port 80 from outside (80.xxx.xxx.180:80) without VPN connection:

80.xxx.xxx.180
80
TCP access denied by ACL from 77.xxx.xxx.99/59068 to outside:80.xxx.xxx.180/80
The attached file is only the show running-config
Now i can with my AnyConnect Clients, too, but after connection is up, my vpnclients can't surf the web any longer because anyconnect serves as default route on 0.0.0.0 ... that's bad, too
Actually the AnyConnect and Nat/ACL Problem are my last two open Problems until i setup the second ASA on the right ;-)
Regards.

The security level for your inside interface should be 100 ie.
interface Vlan1
nameif inside
security-level 100
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
After changing that can you
1) ping the outside interface of the ASA from the pc or ping the PC from the ASA
2) I'm assuming you are trying to connect to 10.1.1.3 when you attempt the connection ?

DNS Server problems with ASA 5505
Hi guys,
we setup a new ASA 5505 which is mainly used as our VPN gateway. The ASA is configured and controlled by our ISP (and this is where the problem starts )) and they somehow cannot manage to get the VPN settings really working.
So, here is our problem.
our machines(Windows 7) are configured to get the network settings through DHCP (Windows 2012 Server).
Before I connect with AnyConnect to our VPN gateway, the DNS Server setting in the network settings for the adapters(IPv4) are set to 'dynamic'
When I now connect, this setting is changes to a statc entry (which is our DNS server).
When disconnecting, it is not reverted back, which means I have to do this always manually.
What I do not understand is the fact, that the DNS server is set for all the adapters, shouldtn't it be only set to the anyconnect adapter?.
The interesting thing is, that when I connect to a different ASA, this does not happen. The ISP is now saying, that the machines are configured exactly the same and that they cannot reproduce, but I can't believe this.
This issue shows up at every machine which connects to our vpn, so it is not only a single machine which might be misconfigured.
Do you have any idea what might cause this issue?
btw, the second ASA (which works) is from our partner company, so we cannot simply copy the config
THanks in advance
PatrickNice to see someone from BT has addressed your issue
I have this exact same problem, seems completely bizarre, I'm pretty sure I had the same problem with the original home hub (i have the latest one now). Can you confirm whether the problem does affect anyone with a bt home hub and not just the one that the dyndns is pointing at? I'll try and confirm by hitting your domain from my home connection. -
Cisco ASA 5505 Dual-ISP Backup VPN
I am trying to create a backup tunnel from an ASA 5505 to a pix 501 in the case of the Main ISP failing. The Pix external side will stay the same, but not quite sure how I can create a new crypto map and have it use the Backup ISP interface without bringing down the main tunnel.
My first thought was to add the following crypto map to the configuration below:
crypto map outside_map 2 match address outside_1_cryptomap
crypto map outside_map 2 set peer 9.3.21.13
crypto map outside_map 2 set transform-set ESP-DES-MD5
crypto map outside_map interface backupisp -->but this would break the current tunnel.

Thanks in advance. In that case is the PIX who needs two peers (to the ASA).
The ASA will requiere the crypto map to be applied to the backup interface as well (as you mentioned)
crypto map outside_map interface backupisp -->but this would break the current tunnel.
The above command should not break the current tunnel (if the route to reach the other end goes out via the primary interface).
Additionally you need IP SLA configured in the ASA to allow it to use the primary connection and fallback to the backup connection to build-up the tunnel (as well to use again the primary interface when it recovers).

Problem transfer TFTP through ASA 5505
Hello,
I have a problem with my ASA 5505, I am not able to transfer files bigger than 100ko using TFTP. Below my archiecture:
CME<->ASA5505<->SW3650
Here is what I get when I try to download a file located on the 3650 on my CME:
CME#copy tftp flash
Address or name of remote host [X.X.X.X]?
Source filename [cmterm-7942_7962-sccp.9-3-1SR4-1[1].tar]?
Destination filename [cmterm-7942_7962-sccp.9-3-1SR4-1[1].tar]?
Accessing tftp://X.X.X.X/cmterm-7942_7962-sccp.9-3-1SR4-1[1].tar...
Loading cmterm-7942_7962-sccp.9-3-1SR4-1[1].tar from 10.52.199.126 (via GigabitEthernet0/0): !... [timed out]
Error reading tftp://10.52.199.126/cmterm-7942_7962-sccp.9-3-1SR4-1[1].tar (Connection timed out)
When I look on the ASA monitoring page, I see that a UDP connection is built between the ASA and the SW3650 but 2 minutes later there are "Teardown UDP connection" messages.
Can you please help me? Due to this transfer issue, I am not able to upgrade my IP Phones (the phones only download the first 2 files because there are smaller than 100ko).
Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards.
Thomas.Default UDP connection time out is 2 minutes through the ASA.
You can modify the timeout values for the specific flow from a particular source to destination . Try changing the default connection timeout of UDP
ASA(config)# access-list CONNS permit udp host CME ip tftp serverip port
ASA(config)# class-map CONNS
ASA(config-cmap)#match access-list CONNS
ASA(config)# policy-map CONNS
ASA(config-pmap)# class CONNS
ASA(config-pmap-c)# set connection timeout idle 00:30:00
ASA(config)# service-policy CONNS {global | interface interface_name}
you can also globally change the timeout value of UDP using:
ASA(config)# timeout udp 00:30:00

Cisco ASA 5505 config cleanup / revision
Hello all,
I have been assigned the task of "cleaning" up and revising one of our customer's ASA 5505. I am going through the config and I have some questions that I am hoping can be clarified for me. The config is rather simple with the inclusion of a remote-access VPN.
I am seeing the follwoing ACLs and Static PAT statements and I am wondering why the previous admin chose this design. IP address 192.168.0.6 is on of their MVbase (database) servers.
access-list acl_out extended permit tcp any interface outside eq 2043
access-list acl_out extended permit tcp any interface outside eq 2044
access-list acl_out extended permit udp any interface outside eq 2040
access-list acl_out extended permit udp any interface outside eq 2041
static (inside,outside) udp interface 2041 192.168.0.6 2041 netmask 255.255.255.255
static (inside,outside) udp interface 2043 192.168.0.6 2043 netmask 255.255.255.255
static (inside,outside) tcp interface 2043 192.168.0.6 2043 netmask 255.255.255.255
static (inside,outside) udp interface 2044 192.168.0.6 2044 netmask 255.255.255.255
static (inside,outside) tcp interface 2044 192.168.0.6 2044 netmask 255.255.255.255
Can I replace the following portion of the config with the one below it?
crypto dynamic-map SYSTEM_DEFAULT_CRYPTO_MAP 65535 set transform-set ESP-AES-128-SHA ESP-AES-128-MD5 ESP-AES-192-SHA
ESP-AES-192-MD5 ESP-AES-256-SHA ESP-AES-256-MD5 ESP-3DES-SHA ESP-3DES-MD5 ESP-DES-SHA ESP-DES-MD5
crypto map outside_map 65535 ipsec-isakmp dynamic SYSTEM_DEFAULT_CRYPTO_MAP
crypto map outside_map interface outside
crypto isakmp enable outside
crypto dynamic-map remote_map10 set transform-set ESP-AES-256-MD5
crypto map outside_map10 ipsec-isakmp dynamic remote_map
crypto map outside_map interface outside
crypto isakmp enable outside
I have attached the full ASA config in order for my questions to make more sense.
Thanks in advance,
AdrianDouglas,
In that case seems like there are many issues.
One thing I notized on the router is :
interface FastEthernet0/1.1
description vlan 1$FW_OUTSIDE$
interface FastEthernet0/1.10
description vlan 10$FW_INSIDE$
You can't have the same physical port for inside and outside.
Meaning this port can't be connected to the ASA and the PC or switch at the same time.
Try to find how far can the PC go; if it can ping the router and if the router can ping the ASA
Then on the ASA you have:
nat (inside) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
But there is no global command, you need to add:
global (outside) 1 interface
You should be able to ping 192.168.1.1 from the ASA,
make sure Ethernet0/0 is up
Regards,
Felipe.
