ASM question for Diskgroup not complete

Hi guys
Currently i am trying to solve a problem that is created by me in order for me to handle a real scenario. For example, there are three failgroups and each failgroup has 3 disks in window environment(VMWARE).
Diskgroup DATA
Failgroup 1: A, B and C
failgroup 2: D, E and F
failgroup 3: G, H, I
When i removed drive I (simulate a hard disk failure), the DATA diskgroup would not mount. If i tried to mount the diskgroup DATA, i would receive an error message like "DISKgroup not complete, ASM disk 6 and 4 missing". If i added a new disk for example T, i would receive an error message such as "diskgroup DATA does not exist or is not mounted". But if i added the disk I back, i would able to mount the DISKGROUP. Can anyone tell me how i can deal with this kind of situation without adding back the old disk I ?

Hi
I am not too sure about how ASM is able to handle disk failure
For example in ASM confiiguration :
Diskgroup DATA (Normal redundance) consists of 3 Failgroups:
Failgroup 1: A, B and C
failgroup 2: D, E and F
failgroup 3: G, H, I
Now lets assume Disk I fails. For ASM configuration, Data will be rebalanced within the Failgroup 3 to keep up normal redundancy. By right, the database is still online and is able to handle users.
But for my case:
When i removed drive I (simulate a hard disk failure) and start up the instance, the diskgroup would not mount. If i tried to mount the diskgroup DATA, i would receive an error message like "DISKgroup not complete, ASM disk 1 missing". ---> At this point, I thought ASM should able to handle disk failure and the diskgroup should be able to handle missing disk.
But if i added the original disk I back and start the vmware, i would able to mount the DISKGROUP. I was trying to make sure ASM configuration can handle disk failure.
How can i be too sure that ASM instance is able to handle disk failure if DISK I fails --->

  • Logitech Quickcam Vision MP for Mac not completely working

    Hi,
I got a Logitech Quickcam Vision Mp for Mac from an Apple store, but it's not completely working.
It works fine for iChat and Skype. However i doesn't work at all for iMovie, it says there is no camera atached, and it kind of works for Photo Booth. The problem is that I also have an EyeTv Hybrid, and
when it is connected, Photo Booth doesn't recognize my web cam at all. I get a black screen. If
the EyeTv Hybrid is not connected, then Photo Booth recognizes the web cam, but if I try to record
I only get video and no sound. Any suggestions? Is there a web cam that works for all the applications: iMovie, iChat, Photo Booth? If I got one of those old external iSight cameras that Apple doesn't sell anymore, would it work with my new intel Mac running Leopard?
Thank you very much in advance!

    Hi,
I just purchased and connected my camera, also from the Apple store, and it works just find with Photo Booth and iChat. As for the sound issue, make sure that you've selected the "Logitech Camera" selection from within the Sound option under System Preference. Click the Input button to make your selection. I hope this resolved your issue.
    Good luck!!!

  • Wait for Event not Complete

I have a Wait for Event step in a simple workflow. My problem is that the step won't complete even if the event is already triggered.
In SWEL, the event is there, and Object Key and everything else seem right to me. And the Work Item Instance is there too. Check picture 1 for screenshot of Event Trace.
In SWI1, everthing is fine except that the Wait for Event has only one action "Wait step Created". The WorkItem ID is the same as Receive Object Key in Event Trace. The object in the Wait step has an instance and LPOR is correct.
The configurations in Instance Linkage is also attached. I suppose it should be automatically added when Wait for Event is set up in the workflow. But there was no entry so I had to do it manually. I also tried Receive Call method CL_SWF_RUN_HANDLER_EVT_RECEIVE. The result was the same.
A screenshot of SWU0 is also attached. To me it says "something is wrong" which I already know well.

    Hello,
"I have a Wait for Event step in a simple workflow. My problem is that the step won't complete even if the event is already triggered."
What should the workflow do when that event is detected?
"In SWEL, the event is there, and Object Key and everything else seem right to me. And the Work Item Instance is there too. Check picture 1 for screenshot of Event Trace."
    I agree, it looks okay.
"The configurations in Instance Linkage is also attached. I suppose it should be automatically added when Wait for Event is set up in the workflow. But there was no entry so I had to do it manually."
There is no need to do that, in fact it may be causing the problem. Try removing it.
"A screenshot of SWU0 is also attached. To me it says "something is wrong" which I already know well."
Why do you say that? I would use SWUE to create the event.
    regards

  • Simple question for some--not me :(

When would be better to use a switch statement and when it would be better to use an if statement.
Can anyone point me to a program or some sites with both working?

However, Switch statements can only be used with primitives and not objects.Do note that this has changed in recent Java versions. Here is the current statement from the Java Tutorial:
"Unlike if-then and if-then-else, the switch statement allows for any number of possible execution paths. A switch works with the byte, short, char, and int primitive data types. It also works with enumerated types (discussed in Classes and Inheritance) and a few special classes that "wrap" certain primitive types: Character, Byte, Short, and Integer (discussed in Simple Data Objects ). • ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup

    Hello DBAs,
I have encountered this problem. I am using storage vendor snapshot capability. On my first node, I have 2 disks for ASM diskgroups. ORCL:DATA belongs to DATA diskgroup and ORCL:FLASH belongs to FLASH diskgroup. After making the snapshots of these two disks, I mapped them to my second host which already has ASM instance. I ran /etc/init.d/oracleasm scandisk and listdisks I see two disks. But when I start up ASM instance I get this error:
    SQL> startup
    ASM instance started
Total System Global Area 130023424 bytes
    Fixed Size 2019032 bytes
    Variable Size 102838568 bytes
    ASM Cache 25165824 bytes
    ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup "FLASH"
ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup "DATA"
Of course, I have the asm_diskstring and asm_diskgroups parameter set in my init+ASM.ora file. The ASM version is identical across both hosts. I guess my question would be, is it possible to do this? Do I need to re-create the ASM disks using /etc/init.d/oracleasm? Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    TD

    What is your configuration?
If you have AIX and EMC san, then refer to this metalink note: 467702.1
In my case, it was HP-UX and HP san EVA8200. But our problem was two different disks were presented to the two nodes, with same names by the unix admin/san admin guys.
Before they could figure out the problem, I had done a lot of research for few days to figure this out. Another problem I noticed in some cases was improper permissions. Either the db software owner didn't have permissions to the asm disks, or if the owner of both software was same, then the actual permissions/ownership of the shared raw devices was different on the two nodes.
Hope this helps. And I will appreciate once you fix the problem if you can also update this forum with your solution. That will help the community in future.
    Thanks

Please read my question carefully, this is, I think, a question for the experts. It's not the usual name change question.
When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

  • Save for Web error: Could not complete operation

    Hi everyone.
I'm having trouble using the Save For Web function on Photoshop CS6. The initial dialog opens fine and I can select any file type to save to etc.
Once I click 'Save...' I get the error "Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred."
I have looked up this error and from previous threads I have tried deleting the Save for Web library files and restarting, however this doesn't work (Unless I am deleting the wrong file?).
I'm running a 2.6 GHz Retina Macbook Pro with the latest update installed for Photoshop. I have 16 GB ram.
Strangely, I have a PC running the same version of Photoshop CS6 and it works fine for this function.
Any idea what this could be? I have posted my system info below.

I found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
    1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
    2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
    3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.
Thank god. It took forever to get this cleared up!!

  • Blackberry Desktop for Mac Is Not Complete - Still Have to Use PC Version Sometimes

Blackberry Desktop for Mac is incomplete in this way - if your OS gets wiped out (as it wants to do upon initial install, as it tries to update your BB OS) - and if it gets hung in the process - as happened to me - then the ONLY way to fix is to go BACK to a PC and use the PC version of Blackberry Desktop.
It's incredible, but that is what I learned.  I installed Blackberry Desktop for Mac.  It  wanted to initiate an OS upgrade first thing.  I allowed it to do so and it wiped out the OS on my Blackberry.  Leaving me with a 507 error.  I called Verizon.  They switched me to Blackberry.  Blackberry said I could only get clear of the 507 error by finding a PC - somewhere - and installing Blackberry Desktop for PC on that PC.
Blackberry then switched me back to Verizon, and they said that since I didn't have a PC, they had to send me a new Blackberry - and they had to charge me for it! (They said that the local Verizon store could not repair the OS).
I refused to pay $50+ for a new phone necessitated by the failure of Blackberry Desktop for Mac to be able to deal with a 507 error.  I spoke to Blackberry Support, again (this was about a 6 hour process), and they admitted that the provider - Verizon - did not support some sort of feature in the OS initialization process, meaning that Blackberry Dektop for Mac could not be used, one has to use Blackberry Desktop for PC no matter what in some circumstances (such as a 507 error upon OS upgrade).
Blackberry switched me back to Verizon.  This time, Verizon stated that the local Verizon store could upload a new OS.  So I shlepped off to the local Verizon store and, another hour later, they installed the new OS.
Once the new OS was installed, Blackberry Desktop for Mac was able to synch and works just fine (much better than PocketMac).  However, my fear is that when the next OS update comes out, if the same thing happens again (i.e., if the OS update freezes again), I will be left having to either look for a PC somewhere to run Blackberry Desktop for PC, or go to the Verizon store.
So, word to the wise.  Blackberry Desktop for Mac is not complete vis-a-vis Verizon.  It cannot be complete if they tell you that you have to use Blackberry Desktop for PC in certain circumstances.
    Gary

This is often the problem with the new features that Apple implement more and more for each functionalities and moving them to "the cloud" (iCloud).
Thus physically removing the files from the Mac makes the BBDM (logically) unable to sync with no-more existing files on the computer...
This is the case currently for the address book and iCal. I guess that new functionalities in iTunes might have the same effect. Haven't you enabled new features recently in iTunes?
    Like "iTunes match" for example?...
Please don't forget to mark as "solved" if your question is replied and to "like" a useful reply to your post ;-)

  • A non-RAC question for the experts: Clusterware + ASM

    Hi
We have a 2-nodes cluster in production.
It's an active/passive cluster with a cold failover using SUN Cluster.
There is only one Oracle 10G single-instance database (DB1), running on node #1, that use ASM to access the SAN (it's raw devices).
We want to add a third nodes to move to a 3-nodes cluster, that would have 2 separates single instance Oracle 10g database
node #1: DB1 with ASM (the existing database, existing raw devices)
    node #2: cluster passive node
node #3: DB2 with ASM (new additional database, new raw devices)
All nodes are connected to the same SAN.
We' want to use Clusterware instead of SUN Cluster.
The single-instance databases, the listeners and the ASM instances would be protected by Clusterware using "application VIP" (not oracle-vip).
It's not RAC ! but in the future both database might become RAC (but that's not the need today)...
My concern is about ASM !
Do I have to install an ASM instance on each node (just like in RAC) ?
Or may I just configure clusterware to ensure there is only ASM instance running on a node ?
Is it possible to have the ASM instance of node #1 and the ASM intance of node#2 that access the same SAN & raw devices ?
In the case DB1 & DB2 fail over to node#2, the unique ASM instance must see the raw devices of both databases, is this possible ?
Do I have to destroy the curent ASM configuration of DB1 to build the new one, or can I just add new raw devices and share tem across all nodes ?
    Thanks for your answers.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the answer
I found this very interesting doucument but it does not go into enough details about ASM, which is my concern.
I found in the Oracle 11g documentation a statement which say that clustered ASM instances for single instance database do not need to talk each other as long as they do not handle the same diskgroup (Figure 1.3 ; http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b31107/asmcon.htm#i1021337) . Otherwise, it must be clustered. It would also be a problem for me when DB1 and DB2 are on the same node. I would need two different ASM instance, on the same node, which is not a good situation.
What happen when I start an ASM instance on node #3 to access raw devices already in use by node # 2.
I think I need to start from node #1 and change some ASM configuratoion to make it cluster-aware.
Next, I would add a second clustered ASM instance on node #2, and so on, to make sure that all ASM instances of all nodes can access the same diskgroup, and thefore being able to re-use the existing database on node #1 as well as creating a new one one node #2 (all on the same SAN)

  • TOP questions for Eseries devices - not so new!

Just noticed that the thread titled:
TOP questions for Eseries devices - start here [new]
Really isn't so new dated 30-Cot-2007 11:48 AM - last edited on 30-Oct-2007 11:48 AM
The post suggests that the first thing to do is update to the latest version of software.
Alas the last update for E72 was 27 October 2010 which is flawed!  I know as my phone has misbehaved since installing it and I see other users reporting similar if not the same issues here.
    *#0000# reports version 052.005.217.11
Question - How does one down grade to previous version?
The post then suggests "If you still experience problems, you can try if formatting your Eseries device helps. Format the device by dialling *#7370#. The device will request a security code, the default code is 12345 unless you have changed it."
Well actually on the E72 this does nothing!  I Type in *#7370# and its displayed to me and nothing else happens.  If I enter *#0000# I get the version number so it seems the software/firmware does not understand the code above!
I did try 'factory settings' option from one of the control panel menu's instead at some point of my misery but was surprised by just how little effect that had - many things were not reset.
If your still reading, I thought I would share some steps I have found to sometimes help on E72 when it appears to hang / stall:
    1. Try holding down the home button and if the running applications bar is shown try closing the applications by pressing the delete (backspace) key.
2.- If that fails try pressing the off button and selecting 'offline' mode - This sometimes works - if it does then try previous point before going back to an online mode such as 'general'.
    3. If that fails - try holding down the power button to turn device off - that sometimes works! But sometimes the keyboard lights simply stay on until the battery goes dead...
    4. Remove the battery wait a moment and then re-insert battery.  You may then have to enter the time and date. Do check your alarms - during GMT I noticed all my alarms would have incremented by an hour!  Not seen this since BST started.

Very strange - or perhaps not that strange but just another issue....  I tried the Hard Reset code again at this time it worked!!!  I'm now re-entering my details and remembering what I didn't back up   But if it fixes my issues it will be worth it.
FYI from another fine post I found:
    FOR SOFT-RESET:
    - at Standby Screen type-in => *#7780#
It will ask for “Restore all phone settings-phone’ll restart….”
Then it asks for security code enter factory default => 12345
    FOR HARD-RESET:
    - at Standby Screen type-in => *#7370#
It will ask for “Restore all phone settings-phone’ll restart….”
Then it asks for security code enter factory default => 12345
FOR FLASHING- TOTAL RESTORE: (Do this if your phone does not boot up)
    1) Remove the battery, and then wait for about 20 min or so before putting it back
    2) Press and hold these three keys together -Green dial key, Star key[*], Three key [3]
    3) switch ON the phone.
    4) Do not let go the three keys until you see the WELCOME screen displayed and just let it complete the boot process
if this doesnt help contact Nokia Care Point-> http://europe.nokia.com/A4388379

    Dear All,
we are moved our storage from hitachi to EMC . after come to emc no issue.
But few day before we are try to use old hitachi storage for our T&D,the same storage mounted in new server.
After that we are try to start the asm but it disk group not mounted .
    It show following error....
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup "DB01"
    1) we are checked the 52 raw devices have oracle:dba permission we are verified.
    2) all raw device can be viewed in v$asm_disk and state is normal.
    3) we are tried asm_diskstring=* also
    4) even it show same error.
    1) My doubt is the asm meta data may be not correct how can i verifiy the the asm metadata and how can i resolve this asm error.
    2) If i drop this asm diskgroup and recreate in same name and add all 52 disk to the group the data will be loss or not?
    Thanks&regards
    SS.vijaibabu

    1) My doubt is the asm meta data may be not correct how can i verifiy the the asm metadata and how can i resolve this asm error.Asm metadata will get stored in asm_disks it's self. we cannot retrieve metadata unless you mount the diskgroup. Most probably these would be permission related of disks.
any pointings to alert log Errors of this operation.
    >2) If i drop this asm diskgroup and recreate in same name and add all 52 disk to the group the data will be loss or not?
The header status of disks changes to FORMER ,once we fire drop on it.we cannot get back the data becase asm will format the disk after dropping.

  • Firefox 4b7 does not complete «More Answers from-» action on Formspring.me userpages; previous Firefox (3.6) was able to load more questions and answers

Even in safe mode, Firefox 4b7 is not able to complete «More Answers from…» action on Formspring.me userpages, it just displays «loading more questions…» for a seemingly endless amount of time. (Firefox 3.6 and any other browser, such as Safari, displays «loading more questions…» for a short period of time when AJAX works, then the questions and answers are actually loaded and displayed.) In order to reproduce, load Firefox 4b7 in Safe Mode, visit www.formspring.me/krylov and click on «More Answers from Konstantin Krylov» (the bottom link). You may try any other user, www.formspring.me/teotmin or www.formspring.me/anandaya for example.

what a waste of money sending an engineer to "fix a fault" which does not exist.  Precisely.
In my original BE post to which Tom so helpfully responded, I began:  It seems to me that DLM is an excellent concept with a highly flawed implementation, both technically and administratively.   I think that sending out an engineer to fix an obviously flawed profile is the main example of an adminastrative flaw.  I understand (I can't remember source, maybe Tom again) that they are sometimes relaxing the requirement for a visit before reset.
Maybe the DLM system is too keen on stability vs speed.  This will keep complaints down from many people: most users won't notice speed too much as long as it is reasonable, but will be upset if their Skype calls and browsing are being interrupted too often.
However, it does lead to complaints from people who notice the drops after an incidence (as in your thread that has drawn lots of interest), or who only get 50 instead of 60.  The main technical flaw is that DLM can so easily be confused by drops from loss of power, too much modem recycling, etc, and then takes so long to recover.

  • ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup

    Running RH4U3 and Oracle 10gr2
Every time I reboot my system, the minor number changed and i can't startup the ASM instance. Does any one know why this is happening? Any advise would be appreciated.
the minor number was 4 and 5, now after reboot i got::
    # ls -l /dev/oracleasm/disks
    total 0
    brw-rw---- 1 ora dba 253, 4 Feb 21 10:10 VOL1
    brw-rw---- 1 ora dba 8, 65 Feb 21 10:10 VOL2
