Asset Management on BPC: scripts using dates

Hi all,
I wonder whether any of you have already implemented any logic that uses dates, such as a calculation of asset's depreciation based on properties with acquisition dates (to put an example, I'm not exactly doing that). Basically I need to do some calculations about assets taking into account dates (like "begin calculation from date xx/xx/xxxx).
Among the different functions available I don't find any to manage dates and calculate periods from dates. Could you please advice on any best practice/strategy on how to handle this?
Regards,
Rafa

If you're running it as batch logic, you have a lot of flexibility using the *SELECT to retrieve just about anything that's in the database (except what's in the fact tables), into a variable. (I do this when I have a FirstPlanMonth of my forecast categories, and I only want certain logic to apply for plan months in the future, not months that have passed.) *SELECT also gives you access to pretty much the full SQL string manipulation capabilities, but again it's not working against data, just master data in member tables and the like. (Otherwise, string manipulation is limited. This is an OLAP cube with numbers, not a transactional system, so the logic focuses on numbers.)
Another option is to *LOOKUP in a different time period, but the problem here is, you need to know what time period to look up in, before you look it up. Pretty hard to see how that could work.
And then you can possibly compare one time period in the data, against another time period in your *SELECT or *LOOKUP, using a series of *WHEN *IS clauses, but it wouldn't be easy.
The basic checking of whether a JUN < SEP is supported, though. This syntax works to do some basic conditional checking on the time period of the data submission, compared to FirstPlanMonth.
*XDIM_MEMBERSET TIME = PRIOR(4),%TIME_SET%,NEXT(23)
*WHEN TIME
*IS PRIOR
// do nothing for the months before the submitted time period.
*IS Category.FirstPlanMonth
// do something special for the first month -- have a sale!
// and we might need to bring in the PRIOR(4) above, if we wanted to, for example, calculate A/R based on the prior 3 months' sales.
*ELSE
// do something boring for the next 23 months
And I don't believe that you can change the member IDs of the time dimension, at least on BPC MS, to 200801. There are a number of places in the logic where it considers a PREFIX (the year) and a SUFFIX, and wants to see a period as the separator between these two. You can always try, and it's not documented anywhere that I've seen that it must be a certain way, but I learned to live with .JAN .FEB etc.

  • What 'Digital Asset Management' system do you use?

I'm researching Digital Asset Management systems that I can use to create a elegant online image and graphic download centres, branded for individual clients.
Has anyone found or created their own solution in this field? I would be interested to hear of your experiences and view online examples if available.
    Steve

    Steve,
There are literally hundreds of Digital Asset Management systems out there as numerous vendors from a wide range of backgrounds (software vendors, printers, design agencies, video producers etc) all think they have some insight that makes them uniquely qualified for this field.  This makes it a bit tricky to recommend a specific option as a lot depends on what kind of asset you're needing to manage.  You need to do an assessment of:
What kinds of assets you're most interested in
How many there are (i.e. the scale of the library)
Is it single or multi-users, do you have external suppliers who may need access
If you have IT skills in-house to install and maintain the system
If so, what technologies you prefer, if not to what extent you are comfortable with external hosting and someone else holding the assets
What you want to do with the assets: download, manipulate, integrate etc.
Who will catalogue the assets and what kind of tagging/metadata etc. you want to apply
How the assets will get on/off the system and who decides whether they should or should not
With that information, it's easier to narrow down the list of potential candidates, but you will still have quite a few other decisions to make to isolate the right product for your needs.
If you're interested in information about Digital Asset Management, check our our site: http://www.daydream.co.uk for some reports and articles that are relatively spin-free (disclaimer: we're consultants so we can't claim total impartiality).  We're also the original developers of an open source .NET based DAM: FocusOPEN Digital Asset Manager.  If .NET doesn't appeal then http://www.opensourcedigitalassetmanagement.org seems to have a good run down of the major options that don't cost anything to get going.

  • Data Asset Manager, Drive or Terminal ideas

I have about ten to twenty HDs with various scraps that I've collected over the years. I'd like to organize them, find duplicates (or dump the files for good!).
Anyone know of a good Data Asset manager? Any one use CDFinder?
Is there a way to use Terminal to generate a list of all the files (not folders) on a drive that I could export into Excel or FM and manipulate? (I have nearly zero terminal experience...)
    Thanks for any suggestions

Start with a google search for *list files in directory unix* for a Terminal command.

  • Asset Management and tracking using iOS?

    Hi,
I would like to use iphones for asset management and tracking and am having a bit of difficulty finding what I am looking for. I bought delicious library 3 at home to see if it could track code39 or code128 but so far it doesn't work, and I can't seem turn off Amazon searching. Anyway, I also ran across iCody, which looked nice and even clz barry, but they all seem to be data entry only.
What I am looking for is an app/application set that can work in two ways:
    1. Build a database (this could be manually if it needs to be) of asset items. I would then enter details about that item into the database.
    2. Scan, view, and possibly edit the item by barcode using an iOS device.
Has anyone found something that will do this? I'm not real interested in demoing apps by buying them first
    thanks

    Hi Stephanie,
SAP Real Estate Management is made to manage space, room reservation, moves, lease administration and so on, while SAP Enterprise Management is used in a property management environment to manage repairs, maintenance and services. SAP Real Estate Management provides Usage and Architectural Master Data Object to display the portfolio, while SAP Enterprise Asset Management provides so called Functional Locations. In SAP Real Estate Management there is an option to automatically create and/or update Functional Locations in SAP Enterprise Asset Management and a BAdI to synchronize Fixture & Fittings on SAP Real Estate Management objects with entries in the Classification System in SAP Enterprise Asset Management. • Bridge for data asset management?

I've been looking for a while for a 'simple' data asset management application.
What it should be able to do or have is:
    1. a simple interface, manageable by anyone.
    2. both mac and windows compatible
    3. drag and drop facilitated for both images AND their description into inDesign.
Why?: we work for a large mall group, that produces some 20 large folders a year. No need to say we have built up an image database of thousands of items, most of which are reused regularly. Locating them for use in a new folder is not such a problem in itself; but reusing the text is. Each time, our client provides more or less the 'same' texts and prices (they retype them), which means that all texts, whether they have been published 10 times before or not, always have to be reread, reviewed by a copywriter, and on top of that, retranslated (in Belgium, you always need editions in Dutch and French). This is a silly and costly situation.
I love to use Expression Media for comparing pictures, and it's drag and drop capable - for picutres - not for text. Bridge doen't seem to do the job either, and it's not an actual database.
So is there a simple way or application (affordable) to get over this problem, without the need of some complicated Unix-based, nerd-interfaced server?

So is there a simple way or application (affordable) to get over this problem, without the need of some complicated Unix-based, nerd-interfaced server?
Did you tried to explore Canto Cumulus ?
They have two editions, the 'single user' (very affordable) and a more complex build to order. When you have many users on different locations or use over a network it might be to complex for the single user version I'm afraid ;-(

  • BPC - Script - How to get the month of a date stored as an amount?

We have a account called "StartDate" in our database.
The user enter a date for this account: 01/07/2010
This date is then stored as 40360 in the db
We are trying to get the month number (7) out of this record.
We succeeded to write an sql query to do that:
Select Month( cast( as datetime ) )
    From tblFact
    Where = 'StartDate'
Any idea how to do that in a bpc script logic ?
    Thanks,
    Bénédicte

There's no built-in support for any type of date math in BPC script logic.
One approach I've used is to add a property to the time dimension, ExcelTimeID. Then you can compare the value to your time periods, if your logic requires this type of condition.
    *WHEN SignedData
    *IS < Time.ExcelTimeID
But that doesn't solve the problem you have, where you want to know the month. I can't think of an immediate solution, other than perhaps in the original input schedule to hide a second account that submits the month number (as an integer) along with the account you have now (with the full date).
Or stick a stored proc in some logic package, scheduled to run every 10 minutes or whatever, that takes the account with the date in it, and runs your query, saving the result as the month number. Ugly in so many different ways, but it's another way to tackle the problem further upstream.
And last result is to build script logic with ridiculous hard-coding of Excel time IDs all over the place.

  • I am interested in using Bridge as an asset management tool over a intranet network, is this possible?

I'm working with a client that has an intranet and CS6 and would like to use Bridge to manage our digital assets. Can multiple computers use bridge effectively over a network?

Bridge is not designed for use over a network nor is it official supported by Adobe for that matter.
The application itself uses its data written to the user library for one computer. Some people have managed with great care and knowledge to let it function over a network but I think as soon as you let people write data them selfs from different workstations things pretty soon get bad due to not having this data available to other users.
The Image archivist is one that has succeeded to use Bridge over a network, google this name and you will find his blog

  • Help on scripts used in bpc

    Hi All,
Hope you can help me in know
where to find some help doc's on scripts used in BPC and coding in SSIS packeges.
And does BPC internally convert scripts to SQL script or MDX?
And can i use both SQL and MDX in single logic file?
Any help will be greatly appriceated

The BPC logic engine converts the "SQL-style" script logic syntax into true SQL, that's executed against the data in the fact tables.
MDX script logic is executed against the Analysis Services cubes; I don't believe that much conversion is involved here, but honestly I'm not an MDX expert, so I could be mistaken.
You can mix both in a single logic file, subject to a clear understanding of how *COMMIT and XDIM_Member, etc. work to scope a particular block of code. The BPC Admin guide (also in the online admin help) is the key reference guide for this.
But the most important piece of advice I can give is, don't write MDX logic. Only use it (as sparingly as possible) for raios (division) in member formulas, where you need to evaluate a formula at various points in the hierarchy (not just at base members). For everything else, use business rules or SQL logic.

  • BPC 7.5 - Data Manager filling tablespace

We are installing a brand new BPC for NW 7.5 SP4 system.  When trying to import data from .txt files via the data manager, the system is generating /1CPMB/DM0000xxx (example /1CPMB/DM0000001) tables.  The problem is these tables are being generated with a size category of 9.  This defaults to a next extent of 320MB.  This is on an Oracle-based backend BI 701 system with Dictionary-based tablespace.
If you only upload 1-2 records, then it falls under the initial extent of 16KB.  But if you upload enough records to get past that initial extent, then it will blow up and take up 320MB of space, most of it being wasted.
We've engaged SAP Support and thus far they have not been able to provide a means to have these tables generated with a lower size category, such as 1, or any other work-around to this issue.
Initially, we were trying to load 60-100 smaller datafiles.  But seeing how BPC is dealing with them by wasting so much space, we are looking at combining the number of files to a smaller number.  If not, you could theoretically try to take up 32TB of space.
We can reorg the tables after the fact, but that doesn't help the newly generated tables every time we upload a file using data manager.
    1) Login to BPC for Netweaver website
    2) Go into the excel portion
    3) log into the applicationset
    4) click on edata at the top of the screen
    5) select upload data file
    6) enter source and target locations. the file is a .txt file (40KB in
    size)
    7) click OK to start the
    upload

  • Data Manager not running scripts

    Dear Experts,
I've followed one of the "How to pass parameters to BPC scripts" guide and created a Process Chain to run scripts. The whole thing didn't go as smooth as expected and I'm not sure which part went wrong.
As I'm having trouble validating the complex version of codes. I wrote something very simple instead like
    *XDIM_MEMBERSET AcctDetail=Non_AcctDetailInput
    *WHEN ACCOUNTPLAN
    *IS "SSVV060"
    *REC(EXPRESSION=%VALUE%,P_DataSrc="INPUT")
    *ENDWHEN
    *COMMIT
I ran the package, the package should trigger the process chain. but it never showed itself in the package status like it's never ran once at all.
I'm posting my script problem on another thread.
anyone has an idea? Thanks a million...

  • Using ZCM asset management

Hi, I am trying to teach myself ZCM asset management. I did learn a little about ZCM itself, but I am in charge of the asset management part of it. I have been looking at it off and on for 3 or 4 months now and it is still confusing. Can someone suggest a good document that explains it or an inexpensive training on it? This is my first time using any kind of ZENworks so I feel very lost. I have the PO's imported and started creating licensed products to my discovered products. But then I have a mess when I have a product that is an annual license. I must be doing it wrong? If anyone has any suggestions let me know or if you want to help me along on the forum that would be great!
    Thanks!
    Amy

    Hey there,
Im currently working with the Asset Management component of ZCM, so far everything works. I read the documentation and tested a lot of Stuff so far.
Actually I have no problem with the steps and "working" with it, but at some points ive got basic lack of understanding the underlying process.
Like: Why exactly do I need catalog products, I cant really see the reason for them, seems like an unnecessary step/level or whatever :)
Does anyone of you know a good source to learn the "Basics of Asset Management", I assume the Asset Management Component of ZCM will have been "build along an before existing Concept". I assume this Concept would be "Asset Management", but i could find no detailed information regarding this.
Either it was so product specific or so compressed that I could not learn much from it.
The Novell documentations clear up pretty much everything about how to work with this, but I still feel confused WHY iam doing what iam doing :)

I have seen that problem happening before, even that i was never able to figure out why, something that you can try is changing the service log in credentials for both:

Oracle Application Testing Suite Application Service
and use a proper user with admin rights.
let me know if that helped
