Assets Accounting - Structure of Assets Class & Individual Assets

Dear Sir / Madam,
I need to configure FI-AA
In the organization there are 2 plants,
In each plant there is Land, Factory Building & Machinery,
Over and above these assets there are some common assets like Vehicles, Laboratory equipment etc.
Please guide me as to how do I design structure of these assets so that I get
1.     Plant wise Assets History Report
2.     Individual assets wise Assets History Report (Like Total Machinery, Including both the plants & Common assets.)
Thanks in anticipation
Regards
Chirag Shah

Hi Chirag,
We define the field status for the asset master in the screen layout. The pathe for the same is  -
SPRO>>Financial Accounting (New)>>Asset Accounting>>Master Data>>Screen Layout>>Define Screen Layout for Asset Master Data.
Here check the staus maintained for plant in the logical field group 3 (Time-dependent data). Make it Required or optional and then check if the field is available in AS02.
Please revert for any clarification.
Thanks and Regards,

  • Where we have to open and close posting periods in asset accounting

    hi sap gurus
can anybody give where we have to open and close posting periods in asset accounting
    thank you
    venkatareddy

    Hi Venkatareddy,
You make specifications for fiscal years and posting periods in the SAP R/3 System in Customizing for Financial Accounting. This is done in the fiscal year variant in the global parameters of the company code. These settings are, in general, also binding for Asset Accounting. The depreciation periods in Asset Accounting then correspond to the posting periods in Financial Accounting.<b> It is usually not necessary to create a separate fiscal year variant for Asset Accounting.</b>
The period control in the depreciation key determines the start and end of depreciation when asset transactions are posted . The period control determines the relationship between the calendar period in which the asset transaction is posted and the depreciation period.
These calendar periods are independent of the posting periods in Financial Accounting. The only restriction is that the beginning of the first calendar period and the end of the last calendar period defined in a period control have to match the start date and final date of the fiscal year in Financial Accounting.
Kindly let me know if this useful for you

  • Clarifications in Asset Accounting

    Dear Experts,
    Please clarify below questions.
    1) What is the difference between Depreciation Area and Depreciation Key?
    2) What is the importance of Recalculate value button in Asset Accounting?
    3) Suppose I have 1000 assets, if I want to run depreciation only for 200 assets how can I do that?
    4) If suppose I have 5 Depreciation areas, I am able to see the book depreciation values only, where I
can see the other depreciation values? If we can’t see for which purpose we are using other
        depreciation areas?
    5) Vendor and Customer balances get update regularly or once in a month or year?
    6) Where we have to create number ranges either in Production or Development Environment?
    7) How can we transfer GLs from one environment to another?
Full points will be assigned as way of thanks

    Hi Krishna,
Thanks for your reply,But still I need some more clarifications please respond........
    2) What is the importance of Recalculate value button in Asset Accounting?-
(A)recalculates depr when asset parameters are changed
Where it will be there as it(recalculate button) is not there in AFAB
    3) Suppose I have 1000 assets, if I want to run depreciation only for 200 assets how can I do that?
(A)select those 200 and run depreciation
Here Assets Selection option is there only in test run not there in update run.
    4) If suppose I have 5 Depreciation areas, I am able to see the book depreciation values only, where I can see the other depreciation values? If we can’t see for which purpose we are using other depreciation areas? (A)use AW01N- you cans ee all dep areas

  • Index series and index class in asset accounting

    Hi All,
I have read in the SAP documentation that we need to assign index series to index class. I have not found the place where index class is configured/assigned. Could you please let me know what are the configuration steps for indexing in asset accounting for calculation of replacement value and purpose of each of these steps/fields?
    Regards
    Suresh

    Hi Suresh,
    Revaluation is calculated as follows:
    ( KANSW  x Index / Basic ) - KANSW - KAUFW
In OAV5: Defining Index Series for Revaluation Posting

Store the index in the depreciation area.
Please also check the button Indicator "posting revaluation" in OAYR and read the F1 Help

You can use "Asset History Sheet" report . i don't really remember the transaction for this.
If you want to reconcile individual assets, use transaction AS03.

  • Error in Balances for Individual Assets Report

    Hi,
We are trying to generate a report through transaction code S_ALR_87011978 (Balances for Individual Assets, Including Components of Group Assets). However, we are wondering why the result always  says "No Data Was Selected" whatever asset/asset class we put as a parameter. When I checked the list of assets per group asset there are no entries. Does this mean that this report is specifically for group asset balances which is why there is no data/output generated because we do not have a group asset? Please confirm. Thank you!

    Hi,
You are right that S_ALR_87011978 is only for reporting group asset or asset belonging to a group and the number of asset group should be entered in the asset number input field in order to output the report. If your SAP asset accounting is not using group asset it explains why the result you have been getting.
    Kind regards,

  • Asset Accounting

Assets are uploaded on 1st March 2007.  Depreciation Start Date is 1st March 2007.  We have run the depreciation upto October 2007.  Version 4.7.  Fiscal Year variant is K4 (Jan to Dec).
Now, the requirement is for around 200 assets - we want to reduce the value of Gross block on 31st March 2007.  And from 1st April 2007 we don't want depreciation on these 200 assets.  That means for these 200 assets, only one month depreciation will be there and from 1st April they should not be any depreciation.
    Please help
    Thanks & Regards
    Points for every helpful answer

The situation is like this  -
Gross Block value          -     Rs. 100
Depreciation for March    -     Rs.    6
    so,
Net Block value              -     Rs.  94
    Now,
we want this Rs.94 should come down by say Rs.80. on 31st March 2007
So, I am thinking of posing Credit memo on 31st March 2007.
So, Net Block will become Rs.14
Rs. 80  should go to GL  Loss on Account held for Sale
    and
Rs. 14 should be in GL  Asset held for Sale  or separate these Assets should be in a separate Asset Class called Asset held for Sale.
I think I have two options for this -
    Option 1
Change the Depreciation Key as 0000
Post Credit Memo on 31st March 2007 (GL - Loss on Assets held for Sale)
    Repeat Run the Depreciation
Post Unplanned Depreciation for March 2007
Post Manual entry for GL Assets held for Sale
    Option 2
Post Credit Memo 0n 31st March 2007 (GL - Loss on Assets held for Sale)
Post Manual reverse entry of the Depreciation
Change the Depreciation Key for the Assets - so that no depreciation further
Post Manual entry for GL Assets held for Sale
Can anybody suggest which one would be best or is there any other better way to do this.
If u have some idea give me a missed call on 09448182333.  I will call u back.
Pl. help.  this is very urgent.

  • Asset accounting and Inventory management.

Hi gurus, I need your advice.
We want to control our inventory and our fixed assets in order to be able to match the amounts between both modules. The main difficulty is that not all the items we register into the inventory module generate a fixed asset (we have sixty thousand inventory items and seven thousand fixed assets).
The way I have thought to solve it is the next: currently we have and asset class per Fixed Asset GL Account. I want to create two asset classes per GL Account, one for the fixed assets that are into the Inventory Module and other for the Fixed Assets that aren´t in the Inventory Module.
Do you think it is ok or do you have a better/easier solution??
    Many thanks in advance.
    BR//Alberto.

Since you mention there is an inventory module, and there is a fixed assets module - consider that the two are very different.
Inventory is merchandise for sale.  When its costs are recognized, those costs are recorded as costs of sale or costs of goods sold.  Inventory can be purchased or it can be constructed, but when we sell the items to customers we recognize both the revenue and the costs at the same time.  The gross margin is the net gross profit or loss.  Inventory has no depreciation.
Fixed assets are capital assets used by the organization to do the things the firm is in the business of doing.  The tools used to build/construct inventory are capital assets (used in more than one year).  Fixed assets will not be sold as a main purpose of the organization.  Only inventory is sold as a main purpose of the organization to earn a profit.  Since fixed assets benefit the organization for more than one year, we spread the costs over all those years in which revenue is generated by the fixed asset use.  This is the matching principle to recognize costs when the revenue is recognized.  To achieve this, we use the AFAR and AFAB depreciation process to spread that APC value across all periods that will benefit from the "tools."
I think you are already using MM for your inventory module.  There can be different classes of inventory just as there can be different classes of fixed assets in SAP.  Each class has its own reconciling account.  Each is its own subsidiary ledger/listing of items that sum to the balance in the reconciling account.  Subledger transactions will automatically update the reconciling account balances for the class - whether we are talking fixed assets or inventory.
I hope this can help, since it sounded like the terminology was confusing.  Neither SAP or accounting is simple.  Regards

  • Asset accounting-QUESTIONS

    Hi Gurus,
I got some questions for asset accounting request all of you to kindly extend your help
    my questions are
What is Asset History? ( OAOA)
    2)     How the data flows from Asset Accounting to Controlling?
    3)     When the asset value is zero and the Company is still using the asset then, how the Company generally proceed to calculate depreciation further? (Curb) (SPRO>Financial Accounting>Asset Accounting>Depreciation>Valuation Methods> Depreciation Key>Calculation Methods> Define Base Methods)
    4)     In asset accounting, why 0% Tax code is created for not taxable transaction and why it is compulsory to do it before assigning the chart of depreciation to company code?
    5)     What configuration is required to bring all the “Fields” in depreciation area tap of Asset master creation?(AO21) and (AS01)
[If we make any changes in Tcode AO21 and they are not getting reflected in depreciation area (Last Tab) in creation of asset master (AS01). So how to make the configuration to get those changes reflected in dep. area (last tab) in creation of asset]
    6)     What are difference between Germany Chart of Dep. and Great Britain Chart of Dep. (UK)?
    Be assured about the points
    Thx
    Vinod R Khelani

    Hello
Charts of depreciation are used in order to manage various legal requirements for the depreciation and valuation of assets. These charts of depreciation are usually country-specific and are defined independently of the other organizational units. A chart of depreciation, for example, can be used for all the company codes in a given country
In the simplest scenario, all of your company codes are in the same country and are subject to the same legal requirements for asset valuation, meaning that you only need one chart of depreciation.
The chart of depreciation consists of the following parts:
In general, you are required to calculate values for assets for different needs, both internal and external (such as book depreciation and cost depreciation). Therefore, the Asset Accounting component enables you to manage values for assets in parallel in up to 99 depreciation areas. The chart of depreciation, therefore, is a directory of depreciation areas organized according to business management requirements. You define the characteristics, and thereby the significance, of the individual depreciation areas in each chart of depreciation. A depreciation area is always assigned to only one chart of depreciation.
You flexibly define the keys for the automatic depreciation of assets in each chart of depreciation. They are based on elements for calculation (calculation methods, period controls, and so on) that are available client-wide.
    Use
SAP supplies typical reference charts of depreciation for each country. They have different depreciation areas and depreciation keys depending on that country’s specific requirements. You cannot use these charts of depreciation directly. You must create your own chart of depreciation by copying the reference chart of depreciation. Delete any depreciation areas that are not needed.
You can document the meaning of any chart of depreciation you set up in the system by writing a description for it.

  • Asset Account mapping

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how the asset accounts are mapped to GL recon. account?
    Priti

In Asset Accounting asset classes will have account determinations.  These account deteminations will link the GL accounts to Asset Accounts
Account Determination is the set of GL accounts that must get effected on  asset trasactions like Acquisition, Retirement, Depreciaiton, revaluation, unplanned depreciation etc,.
All Asset Balance sheet accounts are to be created as Reconciliatin accounts.E.g. Asset Book Value, Accumulated Depreciation etc,

  • Evaluation Group - Asset Accounting

    Dear All
While creatinig an Asset Master Record, in the Allocations Tab, there is EvaluationGroup1 ,
    .........Evaluation Group 5 fields.
Can anyone explain me with an example.
    Thanks and Regards
    Kanwaljit

    Hi,
Evaluation groups are majorly used for asset reporting purpose.
These are part of master record. So you can maintain master data information in this field to identify an asset in asset accounting module.
In our company we are using evaluation group field as sub asset class.
Ex: For Asset Class Computers Hardware.this asset class will cover so many things like desktop computers, laptop computers, servers, etc.
If you want a report for asset balances in this asset class, it will give total balance of the asset class. So in this case if you create one evaluation group for each item (desktops, laptops), you that you can get the balances for that particular item.
Create one sort variant with evaluation group field ORD41/ORD42/ORD43/ORD43/GDLGRP. (TCODE-S_ALR_87009120 - Define Sort Variants)
use this sort variant while u are running asset balances report (S_ALR_87011964 - Asset Balances by Asset Class)
so that you will get balances for each type of asset within one particular asset class. (Create output layout according to your requirement for asset balances report)
Anyway we are using this field as a category of asset under each asset class. according to your requirement you can use this field for other purpose to identify in asset accounting.
Keep me posted for further clarifications.
    Thanks,
    Srinu

  • ABUMN - how to bring "Internal Order" from Asset Master to Asset Account

    Dear All ,
I have maintained the I/O of the Asset Master . If I did OAYR , the I/O value of the Asset Master could  be brought to Depreciation Account automatically when running AFAB.  But when I run ABUMN (and ABAVN), the system could not bring the I/O of the Asset Master to Asset Account .
Do you kindly tell me that which config could achieve the my purpose ??
And if I could do it by any configuration , do you have any suggestion to do that ??
User Exit ? or others ??
    Many Thanks !
    Ian

    HI,
You will have to maintain Screen layout in Asset acounting-master data-screen layout-define for asset master data
here goto time dependent data for the asset class.Make plant as a required entry here & save.

  • Adding custom fields to standard Asset Accounting  ALV reports

    Hello,
I have recently added some fields to the Asset Master table ANLU using the customizing include CI_ANLU.  I have also added some fields using an append structure to ANLZ.  I now need to have these fields available in the standard reports for Asset Accounting.  One example is the report generated for transaction S_ALR_87011963.  I need the new fields available in the 'Displayed Columns' list when clicking the Change Layout icon.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    JR

    Hi Vignesh,
Adding new fields is not possible, but custom subscreens can be added.
Check enhancements QQMA0001 (subscreen for notification header) and QQMA0008 (subscreen for additional data).
    It might help you.
    Thanks & Regards,
