Hello, I'm assisting a DP on a feature shoot but have only done craptastic indy stuff in the past. He wants to shoot on a Sony EX3 using the HD-SDI output. That output will potentially go to the Aja i/o HD box. He wants to do this to maintain the 4:2:2 10bit uncompressed output.
He's asking me if this is OK since I am in charge of data capture and backup on location and will be organizing post production in FCP. It's a little intimidating and I'm muscling through the manuals now, but want to hear of any red flags or advice to consider asap.
What is the most professional workflow for this situation? I have a MacBook Pro that can be on location and a Mac 8-core for when we shoot in house. Am i going to need a raid HD set up to capture this uncompressed footage?
Any articles you may recommend for this type of workflow to help flatten the learning curve? I know this is an ignorant post, I just want to beat the learning curve as fast as possible before I'm judged as incompetent and possibly demoted.

Hi Monty,
the problems I see are:
1) it sounds like you are assuming that the video you capture on your macbook Pro will be the "Master" for the entire project. That is very risky, unless your Storage is Raid 5 or 6. it is difficult to find a really good Raid 5 or 6 Enclosure that is firewire based. If you have a Mac Pro with the Card slot and put in an E-Sata Raid Card (if there is such a thing?) or a Multi-Lane E-Sata Card that you connect to a Raided Enclosure, then that might work. But the I/O HD uses the only Firewire 800 connection on the 15 inch Mac Pros. so, firewire drives might not be an option.
2) your DP is correct in one respect, taking the HD SDI out of the Camera and recording that will give him the image directly as the Camera's Sensor sees it, which should give you a better overall image (because it doesn't get compressed into MPEG 2), but that approach will force you into the problem above. Because whatever you record will end up being the "Master" for the project and if something goes wrong half way through the project and you lose all your footage, you will not be able to then use the footage from the Camera to rebuild your project, because the Timecode on the Camera Footage will be completely different then the timecode of your original Captured Footage.
Make sure you plan ahead for all possible problems and have a way to work around them.

Hello -- I downloaded SNOW LEOPARD successfully that past week. I did a software update as well afterwards.
Now in preparation for upgrading to LION OS X, I read an article that mentions one must make sure to have the MIGRATION ASSISTANT UPDATE for Mac OS X Snow Leopard installed. I am unsure if this was included in the software updates I performed. One would assume it would be there. BUT there is not a detailed listing of what these combination updates include. HOW can I tell if I have the desired version required to continue on to LION?
Another suggestion was for one to perform FIRST AID on the start up disk. It only says to select your Mac HD and then to "verify" ..... do they mean to VERIFY DISK or VERIFY DISK PERMISSIONS. I have on occasion performed a REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS but not the others mentioned. I do not know what the difference is?

I have the same console mesages repeating ad-nasium as you do. What is interesting is I do have the StartuoItems directory but it is empty. The problem I have is that the log-in window comes up as normal, but I can not type in it for about 5-8 seconds. This has started after the latest updates which you mention. When you upgraded to Windows 7 64bit did you do an inplace upgrade of your Vista 64bit installation carefully following these directions?

If you did a clean install it would be best to use the Toshiba Recovery disks that either came with your system, or that you should have created as directed on page 61 of your User's Guide, depending on whether or not your system originally came with HDD recovery partition, to restore your system to its factory default out-of-the-box setup. Then follow the upgrade procedure above.

I've removed the batteries, 30 minutes later I attached the power cord and tried to boot with the same result. Can you shed some light on what maybe going on and how to fix it?

Wishlist for features in the Organizer (advanced)

It's obvious that feature request have a better chance of being satisfied if expressed soon after the release of a new version
Since version 11 has been targeted at a new target audience, advanced users may hope the next one will do more for them...
For me it would be:
- ability to open jpegs or tiffs directly from the organizer (like in psedbtool). Ability to open several at the
same time would be still better.
- real 'advanced search' in the find by details, with all operators including .NOT. and .XOR.
- Ability to manage drives : option to search by drive in the search by detail ; showing the different drives known
by the catalog (like in psedbtool) : list of drives with letter, serial number, how many media in the catalog.
- Reconnect missing files : ability to save the list to a text file to make searches easier.
- Enhanced Export dialog options similar to those of the process multiple files or photo downloader advanced
options
- Albums : sort option by file name.
- Enhance the catalog manager with automatic search and detection of catalogs anywhere on the computer, even in
hidden folders, with pse version and test if empty.
Those features might also help 'basic' users.
Before submitting those feature requests, I am curious to get some users feedback, thanks in advance

Hi Michel,
As you know, I've switched from PSE to PSP X5. It's "Organizer" is very weak, but its Editor is outstanding. So, after working with it for a week, I've come to the conclusion that as an "advanced" user I need to consider my computer as having an "imaging system" on it.
The analogy is like building a home stereo system in bygone years -- choosing individual components on a cost/performance basis and picking and choosing the turntable, phono cartridge, pre-amp, amplifier and speakers that best fit my budget and needs.
So, the "hub" of my imaging system is the image editor. To it I'll add an organizer, and a Raw image processor and a panorama program. I can change the editor to CorelDraw if I need vector capabilities or Photo-Paint if I need specialized raster editing options (like working in CMYK).
I'm watching three image database organizing programs, and the IMatch one I mentioned a while ago looks the most promising. I'm waiting for its new beta to be released before testing it, but even the current version has more image data, database searching, and drives management (as well as the points you mentioned) than the PSE Organizer or Lightroom or PSP will ever have in a million years.
I recently installed the free RAW Therapee editor, and it too has more image adjustments and features than anything the big companies can ever hope to include as an auxiliary part of their programs.
When I need panoramas, the free MicroSoft ICE program is stunning.
That's probably not the comment you were looking for when you posted your suggestions (which are perfectly reasonable for a future version of PSE), but the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that an "all-in-one" image program (especially a modestly priced one) is bound to disappoint -- as a user becomes more skilled, he will become increasingly irritated at its limitations.

If TRUE (shopping cart value greater than or equal to 1000USD).
step 1) The first level approver need to be determined from ztable based on the cost centre of the shopping cart.
step 2) The second level approver need to be determined from ztable based on item category id of the shopping cart.
If TRUE (shopping cart value greater than or equal to 1000USD) or FALSE (shopping cart value less than or equal to 1000USD).
step 3) The org unit manager approval is required. Org unit manager will be determined from the ztable based on the org unit of the shopping cart. In some cases the first level approver will edit the shopping cart , make some changes and will resend the same shopping cart to the requestor (the person who created the shopping cart). If the requestor admits the same changes and save the shopping cart there is no need of sending the workitem to the first level approval again, but incase if the requestor makes new changes the workitem then the workitem should go to the first level approval. The same is applicable for the second level approval aswell.
How will the requestor identify the changes done by the first level approver or second level approver?? Is there any log where the changes done by first level approver or second level approver are saved?

Hi,
In case you won't get answers here, you might ask this same question from SRM forum. As far as I remember a LOT of things in the shopping cart approval process could be done just by implementing the relevant BADIs in SRM (just some ABAP work), you don't even have to touch the workflow itself. In other words, SRM supports lots of different types of scenarios with the given BADIs (approval determination, etc.).

Blackberry Assistant, function and features

When using the blackberry Assistant to dictate a E-mail or message, is it possible to insert a line break?
Also is it possible to control or adjust the punctuation being inserted/use? For example, when you say double quote the assistant inserts the HTML #quote; tag verses simply the " symbol.
Also, is there a reference document of the possible Assistant commands that can be used? Its impossible to click or tap on the info "?" icon when you can't see it.

I previously updated my bios into Insyde F.24 (see attached images) which was ok at first, but when i decided to update my graphics drivers to its manufacturers driver (Nvidia), I started to experience my HP Pavilion DV6 heating up whenever i play games.
I often check and put my graphics setting to balanced in hopes to lessen the heat up a bit. However as soon as i play or open up a game (Fable 3, mass effect 3 and others) the fans starts to spin wildly. To prevent my notebook from overheating i decide to exit my game after 30 minutes of playing and let it cool down first and start again.
I read some points that the update in Bios i made previously possibly has something to do with it, and am now asking your assistance if i can downgrade or roll back into my previous or original Bios.
Would it possible to downgrade? My current Bios version is Insyde F.24. I also searched for a Bios update at HP website and found out the current version i should be running is F.0A. Should i run this?
Any kind suggestion i must do?

Migration Assistant "Looking for other computers ..."

After a new installation of Lion, I can´t restore my users from a Time Machine Backup with the Migration Assistant. In the Time Machine disk I have only the users backup, not the complete MacBook Pro. The back is from the same machine with Lion.

That's not how it's supposed to work. Setup Assistant should have found the sparsebundle and shown it in the Select the Source window. Usually it does.
It's possible the backups were slightly damaged. It's also possible clicking Continue on that window might have, uh, kick-started it, as it did for a couple of other folks.
I agree that Setup Assistant "should" have found it, but it didn't... That was what my last sentence was referring to as well.
For what it's worth, I had tried clicking on the grayed-out continue button like people here suggested. For me at least, it acted like every other grayed-out button has, and did not respond.
You may be right that my backup .sparsebundle was damaged or something, but I'm not really sure why that would be or how one might know, or even what to do about it if you did suspect that to be the case. (It checks out on Disk Utility, and Finder has no problem with it. Heck, even Time Machine recognizes it as an "Other Disk" backup and lets me browse it. I just couldn't get the Setup & Migration Assistants to recognize it.)
I figured now that I got it to work I'd document my experience here for the benefit of the next poor guy who has to spend his Christmas eve Googling for this thread...

Setup assistant asking for my details on Admin acct

I have created an admin login after reading through the forums some time ago. I just logged in back to my admin acct and observed 'Setup Assistant' prompting me to enter and update my details. Is it becoz I upgraded to SL? I didn't know if I should enter the details again.... please help....

I have exactly the same problem.
First trial to add a family member seemed to work until i unchecked the "locate me" options for my wife's account i was trying to add.
Then my iMac prompted asking me for the appleID/iCloudID password (which are the same). Since, it asks it again and again.
It must be a bug in Yosemite code and i hope it would be fixed soon.
Unless anyone has a proposal to solve it ?

Remote Assistance Share Desktop Feature Missing

I'm using a W2k8 R2 server and remote assistance. I cannot get RA Easy Connect to work says Not Available. But I wanted to know if there were some steps I could take where I could share another users desktop without RA sending a ticket and asking for permission.
As the Administrator I would like to select the server, the user, and simply have the ability to control their desktop. Right now without the ticket being issued the feature of controlling the other users desktop does not appear to be an RA option bar.
I also installed the peer to peer feature for easy connect and enabled ipv6 but that only made the easy connect option available so its not greyed out anymore.
