At what point do I ask for a replacement...

Ok, so I hope this isn't too rant-y or long-winded, but here goes:
I've got a Rev A low end MacBook, bought JUST under 3 years ago, with AppleCare that has been having more than a few problems. Noticed the optical drive was giving me problems two weeks ago (not recognizing discs, ejecting anything being put in etc...) so I took it in last Wednesday. No symptoms showed up at the Genius Bar, so they noted that I had an issue and sent me home. Only to have the same thing happen immediately upon returning home.
Thursday I bring it in, they say the optical drive needs to be replaced. W/ the iPhone launch on Friday, it's not ready for pickup until Saturday. I pick it up, bring it home, SAME issue starts occurring. I bring it back in on Sunday, they replace the optical drive again, same day.
Sunday night I decide I should attempt to upgrade to Leopard, thinking that might solve some of my issues. Install freezes halfway through, the computer is essentially a brick.
I take it BACK in on Monday, and they determine I need a new hard drive. Have to order the part, might be a few days, etc...
Today I get a call saying my computer is ready to be picked up, stop by whenever. I skip my lunch break to go to Apple, only to have them tell me "it's finishing a restore, should be five more minutes" Ok, I can wait. Ten minutes later I'm told the restore failed, it'll be at least a few more hours. I say I can come back tonight, no problem, they'll call when it's ready.
This afternoon, I get a call saying the restore failed AGAIN. They think they need to replace the optical drive. I explain that that would be the 3rd optical drive of the week, maybe something else MIGHT be wrong? The genius says he needs to speak w/ his "head genius" and see what they have to say. This was three hours ago with no follow up call.
So that's where I'm at right now. I've literally got THREE days left on my AppleCare, and while asking for a replacement does seem a little excessive given my warranty status, I AM still within my warranty period. I know all repairs are covered for three more months regardless of AppleCare, I had planned on owning this computer for at least another couple years, given it's history, I'm not sure I see it lasting more than a few months. I know it's not Apple's responsibility, but I'm really feeling jerked around here.
So that's my ridiculously long story. More of a cathartic post than anything, any thoughts are appreciated.

Called in this morning, was transferred around to a few people w/in the store, eventually got to a nice lady who told me "it looks like we'll be replacing your computer with a new white MacBook, since the hard drive was already replaced on your old computer, you didn't have any data to transfer over, so you can come by and pick it up anytime."
I'll be heading over at lunch to see if this really isn't too good to be true. Definitely not going to push for a MBP or anything, a new white MB is definitely a HUGE step up from the original three year old MB.
Looks like patience and generally not being an ******* finally paid off Thanks for the tips, advice and interest. Nice to have a place like this to share experiences!

When setting up Yahoo e mail on i pad2 what information are they asking for in the description block

It's just a name/description so that you can identify the account in the Mail app. If you have more than one email account set up on the iPad, then that is the name that appears and which you select when switching between them - so it just needs to be something so that you can identify which email account it is so that you know which one it is that you are selecting/viewing

  • TS1398 when it shows the names to connect to for wifi what password are they asking for?

What password do they ask for to hook up to wifi in the house?

It is asking for the password for the wireless network. If you have not changed the settings for your router you may have been supplied with a default password on a card or booklet that came with it. If it is not you're network you may have to ask the owner for a password. If you changed the password when setting up your wireless router, you will need to remember or find it if you wrote it down.

  • In what circumstance i can ask for replacement or full refund money when it is under warranty?

In what circumstance i can ask for replacement or full refund money when it is under warranty?

Other than the return period the Apple Store offers if you purchased from them, 14 days for most of the year and longer during the holidays, there is no official written policy on returning any Mac or getting a replacement. The official terms of the warranty is that Apple will repair a defective Mac.
If your Mac has suffered repeated instances of the same failure for which Apple has been unable to provide a permanent fix, in some cases Apple Customer Relations has agreed to replacing the Mac. This is taken solely on a case-by-case basis and only when there have been repeated failures and is absolutely not guaranteed. Otherwise Apple will repair the system as stated in the warranty terms. I've never heard of Apple authorizing a refund outside of their standard return period.
    Regars.

  • My wrt160n is starting to have a lot of problems.. should i ask for a replacement??

i had no problems before with this router. but lately i'm noticing a lot. first, it started to reset itself. all my setting went back to default and was configured for open access (unsecured wireless connection). this happened a few times last week. i had to configure my settings again and again and again.
second, my wrt160n wifi LEDs keeps on blinking. even when no wifi devices are accessing it. i checked the client table on the setup page and i see no devices listed. how come the wifi LEDs are still blinking??
third, i noticed that my bittorrent dl speed went down. i can't reach top dl speed unlike before. and my network connection on bittorrent is always red or orange. it takes a long time before it turns green(Network OK). i'm actually downloading an episode of heroes right now with hundreds of seeders and peers and i'm only getting 15kB/s!! i had way less seeders before and i still get top dl speed. now with even more seeders I GET LOWER DL SPEED!! EVEN WHEN THE NETWORK CONNECTION ALREADY TURNED GREEN.. WHAT THE HELL??!!
can someone please tell me if my wrt160n router is already defective?? i already tried upgrading the firmware, but nothing happened. is there any kind of setting i should be doing, or does it sound like my router is already defective and i should ask for a replacement??
    help please anyone..
any help, info, and suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    thanks.

i don't think its my isp. i'm getting good results now from my router. i don't know how i did it but my router seems to be working fine now. i'm getting top dl speeds and it stopped from resetting itself.
one last problem though. is it normal for the wireless lan LED to be blinking all the time even though there's no wifi device accessing it??
it was'nt like that before. it never blinks when all our laptops are turned off. but lately it never stops blinking even with all the laptops turned off. i always check my client table at the settings page and i'm the only one accessing the router thru a wired connection (no wifi devices).
does it sound like my router has a problem?? or is it normal for the wireless LED to be blinking non-stop??
    what do you guys think??

    Hi Samcat,
You can use a download instead of the disk as an alternative: Adobe - Download free trial version Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 | Adobe you can license with your serial
Please test the disk in another windows machine to check if it's caused by the drive or the disk. If you tested with 2 drives please start a support case, i assume Adobe will only provide downloads at this point. They are the same as the trials. If you still need a disk you can burn the trial to a disk as a backup disk. Good luck!

  • Should i ask for a replacement

I only get about 9 hours total out of the 12
60%brightness,using safari listening to pandora, scrolling through facebook, and plenty of time idling (the screen is left on a page, for example pandora.com while i do homework, screen is still on but uses significantly less power since i'm not doing anything).
It seems using facebook really drains my battery idk why
Also, my download speeds are kind of wonky. I downloaded chrome once, took me 5 seconds. Couple hours later, i deleted chrome and reinstalled chrome, took me 15 minutes.

as stedman1 said 14 battery cycles are a lot for 1 week, and won't be a good idea to use your computer in this way.
Finding out how old your computer is and what you seam to be using it for i would say 9 hours is good, you are streaming a lot of data and for Facebook to get a file like video and photos is a lot of data well can be so would again have to download this and play it or show it meaning using a lot more power.
So to go back to your question no i don't think you should ask for a replacement.
Hope this helps, in the life of your computer and your self.

  • Should I ask for a replacement or stick it out with a third repair

The first repair must have been August 8th or 9th. It had the moo issue, the lid creaked, and when I shut my computer down and closed the lid (after the screen went black) the indicator light would remain on and when I came back to the computer it would be searing hot.
All they did was replace the fan with a Sunon fan. The night I received it, nothing changed. So I sent it in again. This was August 18th when they received it. They replaced the heat sink . I got it back on Thursday (just passed) and the lid was better for a day, it now creaks. It mooed, so I just did the SMC update (which fixed the mooing completely). The shutdown issue happen again too. And NOW, the whole right side of the trackpad's button is not only mushy, but nonresponsive. The right side just doesn't work. Should I send it in for yet another repair? Should I ask for a replacement? Should I be grateful it doesn't have the wretched Random ShutDowns? What's the concensus? I'm on holding with AppleCare now waiting for the next available representative (as I have been for the past 14 minutes).

    An update in case anyone is the least bit interested;
I asked for the replacement. The lady (Ashley) transfered me to a technician or specialist or some other euphemism for second tiered employee named Tim. Tim suggested I go into an Apple Store and have them do the repair there. That night, I experienced the "waking from off syndrome" again and figured I'd have to mention this to them as well. Did that at the store and they decided they were going to send it off to Memphis yet AGAIN. Definitely not what I was told by Tim. He said they would fix it in store. He said they'd probably hold on to it for a few because they didn't have any replacement top cases to fix the trackpad button, but he said nothing of them sending it back into Flextronics (who, I'm convinced, are quite incompetent; they're the ones who broke the trackpad button). I know they're going to muck this up again. This time, I think they're going to replace the logic board. Illogical! I don't suppose it will help, but I could be wrong. Iffin' I experience another wake from off incident after I get the thing returned, what's the liklihood of Apple replacing my machine with a new MacBook (versus not replacing it or replacing it with a refurbished machine)?
I'm fed up. Macs don't necessarily just work. They potentially frustrate.
    Sorry for the quasi rant

    Imac 27".
i do not like the idea of repairing every month.
Feel the imacs supplied to India are sub standard ones

Folks have reported that the Apple policy is three major component failures and the Mac is replaced. For the first two the Mac is repaired. Apple would not risk alienating its customers from one of the most populated nations in the world, so its time to stop the "discriminating against the poor Indians and selling us sub-standard Macs" routine. Occasionally the universe aligns just right for there to be a Mac lemon. Folks in every country have experienced lemons. It is the hazard of manufacturing millions of Macs with even more millions of parts, all produced by different parts suppliers. And it is why the manufacturer's warranty exists.
Speak to the vender about a replacement. If necessary call Apple Care and request that your warranty service call be escalated to Customer Relations. Politely, but firmly, explain the situation and stand your ground that the solution to make you a happy customer is to have the Mac replaced. Don't make threats, mention lawyers or claim that Apple discriminates against Indians. If you do, you will have lost your case and Apple will then work with you from a distance and follow it policies and procedures to the letter, regardless of whether it makes you happy.

  • Going to an apple store and asking for a replacement

    Hi
Is it possible for me to go into my local apple store and ask for my iPod Touch 2nd Generation to be fixed?
It has lasted me a good amount of years and it has finally started to die, I was wondering if I could go into the store and ask for a replacement for a knocked off fee. I've been told by a few people that the above method can be done in a store, I was checking if I could get online clarification if this was true.
Also could it have the option to be replaced with a later generation for a slighty raised fee?
    Thanks
    All help appreciated.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

Likely not worth it for a 2G iPod

  • Time machine is asking for a password.  What password is it asking for, and where is it?

I'm trying to restore a machine that has ben seriously compromised... I have a disk image, I have backups, I have Time Machine.
Time Machine is asking for a password to restore - there is no password in keychain, no administrator password works, I have no idea what the password to the share is.  I have other machines accessing the share just fine.  My written records say I put it as a stupid password:  guest.  But that doesn't work.  How do I recover this password?
I've tried to recover from the disk image, but Disk Utility says it doesn't have disk space to do so.  I've tried via rsync, and while I seem to have built a computer, it says it cannot find the OS when I attempt to boot.
I'm pretty lost.  Why is Time Machine asking for a password?  Where can I find this password?  Why is it not in Keychain?

Apparently the mybooklive isn't so good about keeping passwords.
    Do:
    Open Safari
    Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks
    Bonjour
    mybooklive
    users
    administrator
    update password
Bizarre solution that I can write to it, retreive it from a working system, but I can't restore from it!  Augh.

  • HT201320 what about when it asks for incoming and out going mail servers? what do you write there?

i am trying to link one of my accounts into my phone and am asked for incoming and outgoing mail servers. whats that then?

Your Internet service provider maintains the servers for sending and receiving email. Ask them for the prospered names of the servers and whether you need to enter your password and user name to send mail.
If you use gmail or some other web type email service they should provide that information to you as well.

  • Ask for disks replacement or wait for Snow Leopard?

I think I've lost the OSX Leopard disks (both of them) that came with my MacBook unibody.
In a recent post I've read that it's possible to ask Apple for a replacement. But considering that I'm going to upgrade to Snow Leopard, are the original ones still necesary?
Does the SL distro (the upgrade, I mean) contain, for instance, XCode or the Windows drivers for bootcamp?
I also bought the iLife'09 upgrade .... [click in my mind and some minutes later] .... Ugh. Things are getting worse, I can't find that disk either. Ok, let's forget iLife for the moment.
I'm using a TimeCapsule to backing up my Mac. AFAIU, if something goes wrong with my HD I can restore from the backup but I still do need the OS disks. Is that correct?
Once I've installed SL, could the restore be done from within the SL disk making Leopard disk "obsolete"?
    Regards

none of your SL questions can be answered here until snow leopard is officially released. that would be against forum rules and people who do have snow leopard already are still under NDA. but regardless of the answers I would certainly suggest you get the replacement disks. those install disks contain ilife that came with your computer and apple hardware tests which will be absent on a retail leopard or snow leopard disk. also, to restore your entire leopard system from a TM backup you will need a leopard install disk.

  • How do i obtain a PUK code for my Ipad (and yes that is what my Ipad is asking for)

I own 64bit Ipad.  One day I turned it on and it said "Enter a PUK code".  I don't have any idea what this means, I just know my Ipad has been inoperable since.
There is no carrier, it's not a phone.  Just Wi-Fi.  I have wasted SO much time trying to get this resolved I am ready to throw this thing in the drink.  No help from Apple, there is no "carrier", so ***????!!!!!  Feels like a $900 rip off right now.  I am not a general Mac or Itunes user, bought this Ipad as an experiment for EHR in my medical office, where it could have been a very handy tool.  I don't want to loose all of the medical information already downloaded, and Itunes doesn't recognize it when I plug it in to my laptop.
I have removed the Sims card, then the picture of a USB cable pointing to the Itunes icon appears.  Itunes and the Ipad don't seem to recognize each other from the same device that I've updated on before.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm really upset that Apple wants to charge me to tell me how to fix it, when it was as simple as me turning it off one day, and getting this  message the next, ya know???!!!!
    Lisa

The only one that can issue a PUK code is a carrier, which you've already made clear you don't have.
If itunes does not recognise your ipad that may be another issue. What version OS is on your computer and what steps did you follow to uninstall itunes and then reiinstall itunes on your computer?
And, do you at least see the sidebar on the left hand side of itunes?
