[Athlon64] MSI RS480M2-IL - I/O Range duplicate setting

Does everyone else have the same conflicting I/O range with their ATI SMBus setting below?
I have tryed 6 ways to Sunday, and can not get them seperated. They both use 040B , and have a red circle on them in Device Manager (no yellow exclaimation mark though)
Device Manager ->
+System Devices
 ATI SMBus -> Resources I/O Range 0400-040F
 Motherboard resources -> I/O Range 040B-040B

yep the same here.. but i noticed when running windows x64 it do not occure.
wonder what it means

  • [Athlon64] MSI RS480M2-IL random restarts, BSODS etc etc

Hi, I just recently set up a new computer with the following:
    MSI RS480M2-IL mobo
    AMD 64 3500+ (venice)
    CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
    WD Raptor 74gig 10,000RPM HD
I get a lot of random BSODs and even random system restarts frequently, when I try to play games (CS:Z), it would restart also, but after I turned off automatic restart, it just goes to windows. Also get random restarts when just browsing the web.
I ran memtest86+ on dimms 1 and 2 and found some errors in my ram, then I placed sticks in dimm 3 and 4 and ran memtest again for about 8 hours and found no errors.
Anyone know whats going on? I have all my drivers updated, I even updated to bios 3.4. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks

Disable the Fan Control in Bios PC Health Status Menu.  The Fan Control has problems due to detecting the temp too low on CPU.
Are you running memory using Auto or Manual settings?  Try Auto, as Manual has problems (or can be too aggressive for some memory).  I would check to make sure you're stable and error free with Memtest86+ with any change. There is a Bios bug in Bios 3.3/3.3B3 that hasn't been confirmed in Bios 3.4.  The bug shows as a blank/greyed-out RAS to CAS delay in CPU-Z, when Manual is used.  The greyed-out setting is actually an illegal 7.
Also, did you install the AMD Cool'n'Quiet driver from AMD download and enable CnQ mode in Control Panel, Power Options by selecting "Minimal Power Management" as the Power scheme?

  • [Athlon64] MSI RS480M2-IL Dual Channel Trouble

    My spec:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice)
    MSI RS480M2-IL (BIOS 3.4)
    2 x 256 Kingston ValueRAM (KVR400X64C3A/256)
    WD 1200JB
It works perfectly in Single Channel memory mode, but when I try to set Dual Channel, it just beeps and doesn't boot... I've tried installing memory modules in both blue and black slots.
    Any advices on my trouble?

did you already flashed the bios to the lattest? since the venice is quite a new core, and is probalbly not suported with your current bios.
it is know that dual channel wil not run with a venice core unless flashen to the newest bios
it was the first thing to do... BIOS 3.4, the latest one

  • [Athlon64] MSI RS480M2-il bios query - ACPI functions

    Hi,
I'm currently in the process of setting up a home theatre system, using the above board and an Athlon 64 3000 Venice core processor.
I have a query regarding the use of standby mode from Windows MCE - I can get Windows to suspend to S1(POS), however this leaves the fans running, I would prefer to suspend to S3, where the fans don't run - however when the bios is set to this, the system hangs on restart - I'm currently using bios version 3.3B6 - does anyone know if 3.4 resolves this issue and is compatible with my processor - I was provided with my current bios version by MSI Tech support as being compatible with my processor.
    Thanks

    Well, I assume that's a good thing....hehe
I turned this board inside-out before I gave the system to my daughter.  She just expects things to WORK!  So, I can understand that type of pressure.    You'll see alot of my posts of "experiences" with the board in this Forum.
You might be best to download and run Memtest86+ to see if your memory is 100% stable and error free.  Are you using the Auto or Manual settings in Bios for memory?
If you get the chance, update your profile with a full set of your system specs, like mine.

  • [Athlon64] Overclocking AMD Athlon64 on MSI RS480M2-IL

    Hi,
I thought that MSI motherboard is good at overclocking, but the MSI RS480M2-IL do not have any option to overclock my AMD Athlon64 CPU.
I just built a new PC with the following configuration:
    - AMD Athlon64 3000+ CPU (Venice core)
    - 2 X 512 MB DDR400 2.5 CAS RAM
    - MSI RS480M2-IL motherboard with 3.4 BIOS version
    - AOpen H420B casing with 300W Power supply
    - Seagate 250GB SATA HDD with NCQ
Anyone know how to change the FSB setting in the BIOS or any Windows program that can change the FSB setting so I can overclock the CPU???
I also have the following questions about the RS480M2-IL motherboard:
    - My AOpen casing provide a 20 pins ATX power connector so do I need change the power supply with 24 pins ATX connector?
    - I thinking of adding a nVidia graphics card so anyone have any problem with a nVidia graphics card on this motherboard?

Vdorta: Can give more instruction how to run the ClockGen program??? Do I have to load it every time my Windows bootup???
I don’t have my computer at hand, so the following is from memory, aided by the ClockGen site:
    1. Download the RS480-specific zip file to a folder and extract its contents.
    2. Run the CG-ICS951412.exe file; click on the “Get” button to obtain the current FSB value; adjust the new FSB value you want (there are five values: 200, 204, 210, 214, 220). I tried and tested them all and they were stable in my machine, so I chose the highest, 220.
    3. Create and save in the same folder a simple text file, for example, “filesave.txt” with a text editor (I used Notepad) with the following two lines in it:
    [CG-ICS951412]
    FSB=204
(where FSB is the value you have chosen from ClockGen.exe); every time you change the value, you have to modify the text file to include the new value, of course.
    4. Create a shortcut to CG-ICS951412.exe; right click the shortcut and select “Properties”; add “-file=filesave.txt” to the “Target” field so that it should look something like this:
    “C:\ClockGen\CG-ICS951412.exe -file=filesave.txt”
    5. In order for Windows to load the program at boot, place the shortcut in the Startup folder.

  • [Athlon64] Problem with MSI RS480M2-IL

    Hi all,
I have problem with MSI RS480M2-IL. My problem is My temperature is very high... around 55-60c ... i am using AMD 3000+ Venice and no OC... and SpeedFan unable to detect my Voltage usage... Aida32 also same... 1 more thing is when i tried to run SiSoft Sandra 2005... it will take alot of time to load, sometime will just hang. i Test PCMark04 and found only got 3k for average mark... my friend getting 4k+ and we are using same spec... Below is my Spec:-
    MSI RS480M2-IL
    AMD 64 3000+ Venice E3
    Bios Version 3.8
    Geil PC3200 DDR400 2.5-3-3-6
    Maxtor 60GB HDD 7200RPM 2mb
    Verudium Power Vortex 420W
Hope some one can advised me what to do... my score too low and my board detect temperature and voltage is not accurate... Hope MSI Engineer will look thought and help me... Thank for Viewing !

the underlying "Who's fault is it?" question: AMD64 VENICE CORE (E3) PROCESSORS? or MSI RS480M2-IL MOBOS?
so far, ALL users with this proc/mobo combination HAVE the high (or incorrect) temperature issue. replacing the mobo obviously will not resolve the issue but replacing the proc with one that is NOT a Venice E3 core, does the trick. but of course, not everyone will have the privilege of exchanging their damned proce via the retailer specially if it's beyond the first 21 days of purchase.
in my case, my retailer refused to have the E3 proc replaced with the 'corrected' E6 version no matter how hard you explained the known issues with the E3. no chance of AMD recalling the E3 cores since problems with are only isolated to the particular MSI RS480M2 boards.
so for users that are and will be stuck with this combination, what is the solution then to the temperature issue? in my opinion, it's up to MSI to perhaps release a bios update that will correct this. another important thing to consider is the question: IS MY VENICE CORE INDEED OVERHEATING OR IS IT JUST THE MSI MOBO SHOWING INCORRECT READINGS? the proc overheating in actuality is obviously a lot different thatn just having an incorrect bios temp readings.
based on what i have observed, my Venice core displays the correct cpu temps (33-35*C) when being used on a MSI K8 Diamond mobo. placing the proc back to the R2480M2 board shows a very unusual 61-63*C bios cpu temp. furthermore, if i touch the stock heatsink/fan cooler that i have (for both motherboards), it really does NOT seem to be extremely  hot to think that the cpu is actually overheating. in addition, my system using the RS480M2 performs well and has no spontaneous shutting down problems whatsoever. of course, my sense of touch is not as accurate as a thermometer but more or less, if you consider all the points i mentioned, most of us can say that the whole issue is just a matter of incorrect cpu reading.
perhaps the ATI chipset is the one to blame since i have notices as well that the Venice core processors do not seem  to have this high temp problems with MSI's K8 mobos with the NVIDIA chipsets.
one last question: so do you guys think that this problem can be resolved by a simple bios revision? (as a dell tech guy, i do know for a fact that bios updates resolves overheating error messages in Inspiron/Latitude laptops)

Has anyone bought the new ATI/MSI RS480M2-IL s939 motherboard yet?
    If Yes, How is It?
This seems from what I've read at least to be a good or even great overclocker, It's too bad that It isn't a full ATX motherboard, Maybe If sales are good enough MSI will use this chipset on a Full size ATX motherboard one day. Of course It does have an Integrated ATI video card in It and It have as much as 128Mb ram for the pci-e built-in video or You could add a separate pci-e video card in the 16x slot. It's $94.00 right now on pricewatch.com of course.

Ordered one for a home workstation from ZipZoomFly.com. Also picked up a 3000+ and already have 1GB of Adata PC4000. Will be utilizing onboard video until I have the need/desire to upgrade to PCI-Express video card. Hard drive will be a new Maxtor 250GB ATA-133 16MB Cache that I picked up from CompUSA for $99/no rebates :D
I will post my thoughts after the system is together, should have parts by Thursday/Friday.
Well at least You aren't buying from Logic Circle Systems That place will ship incompatible ram that is Intel approved and say then It is You cpu that is at fault, I should know I'd bought zoom3's motherboard and some Wintec ram(Samsung chips ending in TCCC) and They said they were tested and AMD approved(They aren't, Wintrec is Junk on an AMD Platform), I now have a Corsair CMX512RE-3200LL Dimm and My cpus work fine at PC3200 speeds and above, Logic Circle Systems said was at fault. Logic Circle Systems is a bunch of Liars and are not trustworthy.

  • MSI RS480M2-IL audio problem

Hi, i just set up my new pc with the MSI RS480M2-IL mobo and i am having some serious problems with the sound. i installed the ac97 codec from the msi driver page and here is what happens, the sound works only when i switch it to 4 channel mode or higher. And the worst part is when i go to websites using the adobe flash to view videos i get no sound at all, also programs like ventrilo dont work either. now i tried to reinstall the codecs and everything but nothing is working. oh and the sound works when watching movies on media player and other sites that dont use adobe flash. HELP PLEASE.

where do i find these drivers, i checked on the realtek site and google and i could not find anything. would you happen to have a direct link that would be great. also lets say i open youtube and watch a video which used adobe flash ,and i click on sound settings on adobe flash, i can see the sound bar moving like the sound is playing. so i really dont believe its a software or driver problem, can it be that it is a hardware problem? if yes, is there a way i can find out if i still have  the warranty left on it? thanks

[Athlon64] MSI Diamond-D and OCZ memory compatibility

More imortant than the brand are the types of chips used.
Winbond Bh6 and -Ch5 overclock poor on a AMD64 system, or u need to set the vMem redicoulisly high.
With Samnsung and Micron chips u can get the same timings @normal voltages (2,7v).
Here is a list of chips, icw brands:
    http://www.techpowerup.com/memdb/
Make sure u get Micron 5B G or Samsung TCCD chips !
Agree with Stick about the amount of memory. First of all: Windows XP (32bit) cannot adress more then 3 GB, furthermore, no way in the world u are gonna use that memory. Stick to 2GB which is more then enough, heck, 1GB is allready more then enough 99,9999% of the time.

  • Overclocking MSI RS480M2

I'm using and athlon 64 3000+ with a msi rs480m2 mainboard, i want to overclock my system to 2GHz, how do i do it???

The RS480 and RS482 boards does not support overclocking. The BIOS locks you to the rated speeds of the CPU only, and the chipset as such has quite limited overclocking capabilities.
In principle you might be able to overclock these somewhat via software, but not much, and some of the MSI software available for these purposes is said to work on these boards as well, but it's not a supported configuration or meant to be done. The boards are not designed with overclocking in mind, rather stable and affordable desktop systems for normal office use.

  • Does the MSI RS480M2 sb400 chipset impose a hardware limit on SATA disc size?

I would like to fit a 1Tb sata drive. The Motherboard is MSI RS480M2, MS-7093 (v1.X) M-ATX Mainboard which uses ATI RS480 Chipset with an ATI SB400 Southbridge providing the SATA controller. At present I have two 200GB IDE drives fitted and one SATA DVD-RAM Drive.

Not that I know of, but you better test it before buying at a shop, then you are sure.
    Normally it should work fine.

  • MSI RS480M2-IL Periodic Audio Noise

I have an audio noise problem with my MSI RS480 Motherboard.  The on-board sound periodically (every few seconds) makes a small noise (click?) and over longer intervals a skip of sorts.  Also near the end of the Windows Logon audio I sometimes get a sort of brrrr noise.  The noise problem occurs with all sorts of audio (i.e. audio CD's, streaming audio, Windows sounds, etc.).  I assumed that it was faulty Realtek sound and I disabled the Realtek sound and installed a Sound Blaster Live Value OEM (Sound Blaster Driver Pack) sound card.  It does the same thing with the Sound Blaster sound card but not as noticable.  I decided to RMA the RS480 and order a new one.  I just installed the new one and the problem is still there with no change.  I still have the Realtek audio disabled and have the Sound Blaster sound card.  The following three things have been suggested to me (in order) but only step 3 has been tried.  I understand the purpose of step 2 but not the purpose of step 1.  I plan to try step 2 sometime next week.
    (1)  Remove the RS480M2-IL and put it on top of a phone book and run the PC and test the audio.
    (2)  Switch out the Power Supplies and test the audio
    (3)  Replace the Motherboard and test the audio
    My System:
MSI RS480M2-IL (Latest Drivers, Latest BIOS 3.3)
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Seagate SATA 120 GB HD
    Samsung 16X DVD-RW (Latest Firmware)
    Samsung Floppy Drive
    Corsair VS DDR Memory - 512 MB x 2 (1 GB) CAS 2.5 DDR400
    Athlon 64 Socket 939 3000+ Retail
Antec SX635II Case (Antec SL350 PS)
    3 80mm Antec Case Fans
Logitec 2.1 speakers (Tested on 2 other PC's with absolutely no problems)
    Samsung 710N 17" LCD
    Rosewill Optical Mouse
    Liteon 104 Key Keyboard
Can anyone explain step 1, above.
Can anyone suggest any other test(s) to conduct to determine the cause of and solve my problem.
    Thank you.

I am suspicious of the Antec SL350 Power Supply.  I just ordered a spare 450W Power Supply.  It should be in on Thursday of this week.  I plan to swap out the power supply by Saturday.  I already have an Antec SL350 in another computer (Don't want to do a swap out with that PC at this time.).  The other SL350 moves a noticable amount of air (I would guess at least 4 times the flow of the one with the RS480M2-IL.).  The air is warmer than I am used to (PC with RS480M2-IL) and the flow is almost undetectable.  I checked the rotation of both power supply fans and they are both moving in the right direction.

  • MSI RS480M2-IL + cpu temps

I would like to know the temps of ppl who have this board and their cpu and how they monitor their temps in Windows.
I just set up a 3000+ venice w/ stock cooling, MSI RS480M2-IL, 1 gb valueselect ram, 120gb Samsung SATA and I have temps of 47C-50C idle even with open case with ambient temps of 27C. Is this normal? The case temps are ok, around 33C.
i have done prime95 stress test for 10+ hrs 2x and it never crashed once. then i put an alcohol thermometer at the top of the heatsink at it only rose to 35C at 100% load.
    Thanks

Same problem with my 3000+ E3 venice ...right now 59C, but what bothers me is the 124C "Motherboard AUX" temp I get from both Speedfan and SystemTool... I guess this is the northbridge?  I removed the black aluminum "Radeon X200 XPRESS" labeled cooler and lapped it. It was CONVEX!.... the plastic outer parts of the chip are even higher than the metal circle in the middle, so it wasn't making good contact with the chip, not to mention the half-application of the stock thermal paste. After lapping and reinstalling with Ceramiqe, the heatsink is MUCH hotter -a good thing, but I need to change out the stock AMD cooler to something that will also cool the northbridge heatsink and the backside video card ram.
I think the early Venice cores have a high temp bug that only READ hot.  I don't think the CPU is hot.  I had a flat temp sensor under the CPU cooler in the little gap that the plastic socket makes. I can't remember the temp ever reaching 40C. I did some case-modding since then, so I pulled it out for disassembly.  I'll put it back in when I change the CPU cooler.
Still, what bothers me about this mobo is the lack of OC'ing and the strange temps and volts (Speedfan reads 15.4V on +12V -only once did it read 11.5V) -No other voltages available besides 3.3V rail.  I don't know what voltage the DIMM runs at. Anybody?
I just checked the 12V rail with my multimeter:
With only a 275w Enermax PSU ...but 20A on 12V rail, thank God, and with a modded X800 Pro installed I still have a STEADY 12.11V!!! (Speedfan 4.26 still reading 15.44V)
I hope this eases some minds out there just a little...  -Ivan

  • MSI RS480M2-IL

    Hi all,
I just built a new PC using the following:
    MSI RS480M2-IL
    AMD64 3200 with 1GB corsair DDR 400 (a combo from ZIPZOOMFLY)
    160 GB Seagate Barracuda ATA100
    350 W PS
    WIndows XP home 2002
The problem happens when I try to get updates from Microsoft's website. After the updates load, I get a message to "press a button" to restart the computer. When I do this, the computer restarts and hangs at the BIOS message. The only way to get out of this is to do hard reset, but then the updates are lost.
Is this a MSI bios issue or a Windows issue:huh:? Has anybody seen this:huh:?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Narayan AK

    Danno,
I disconnected the wireless adapter, before the soft reboot and it seemed to work. However this does not seem conclusive. I later installed some other stuff, which also reqiuired a soft reboot; however I forgot to remove the adapter then and the soft reboot succeeded.
I have forwarded thsi question to MSI tech support. Hopefully I will get some response.
    Thanks for your time
