Attaching PDFs to Mail Through Print Dialog

When using the PDF pulldown in the print dialog to email a preview PDF, Microsoft Word names the file "Microsoft Word - xxx.pdf. Is there a way to change this name while in Mail? Otherwise I need to save the PDF to the desktop, attach, then throw away the PDF.
Thanks

I've never found a way to do it. AFAIK, plastering "Microsoft Word" to the front of your filename (when printing) is a "feature" you can't change. The Windows version of Office does this too (you see it when viewing documents in a Windows print queue), but most Windows PDF creation tools ignores it.
MS Office for Mac is the only program I'm aware of that does this. Our OpenOffice.org users don't have this problem.

  • The Save as PDF option in the Printer dialog is not supported.

My client is asking me to save a separations PDF file. But whenever I save it to PDF, a this message pops out: The Save as PDF option in the Printer dialog is not supported. I'm using InDesign cs5 and Adobe PDF 9.0. I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.6.

What it says is correct, have a look at this post here.

  • "Save to Adobe PDF" missing in Mac print dialog

I've just upgraded to a new machine, and the "Save to Adobe PDF" option is missing from the PDF drop-down menu in the print dialogue.  I'm running Mac OS 10.8.3 and CS 6.  I believe that Acrobat X is supposed to automatically install this option into the main print dialog; what can I do to get it installed if it got left out of the initial CS6 installaion?

OK thank you.  I feel like I'm still not quite getting my question across.  I don't think that PDF Maker is what I was using last week before I got a new machine; wasn't that the thing that showed up in the upper portion of the Print dialog, in amongst your physical printers?  That is not what I was using.  I was using the Save to Adobe PDF.app (an Automator app) that stays in the PDF Services folder in the Library.  You access it via the PDF button in the bottom left of the Print dialog.  This was using Acrobat 9 and OS 10.6.
Your description above makes it sound like when I go to that button I would get a contextual menu that lets me choose the quality of the PDF.  I don't have that choice.  This is the contextual menu I get under PDF in the Print dialog:
I used to have an additional entry there in the middle section called Save to Adobe PDF.  That brought up a dialog with a drop down menu that showed all of the preset settings I have made for PDF creation, and I could choose my quality there, choose a location, and save.  I had full control over all the settings.  I just need a choice that brings up that dialog, and Save as PDF doesn't do it (it just uses the native OS PDF generator).
The second method does not work on my machine either.  If I try to drag a Word doc into Acrobat it tells me it is not a supported file type, and says "To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF."  this indicates to me that somewhere I should still have the ability to choose Adobe PDF rather than Mac OS PDF.
I can save to PostScript and drop the file onto Distiller -- as long as the Distiller settings are set correctly already, because it starts creating the PDF immediately with no dialog in between to make choices.  I can live with that, but I would rather have my Automator workflow back to do it in one step.  (sadly I don't know enough about Automator right now to easily do this myself, but maybe this is a good chance to learn.)
I know that I have seen this workflow mentioned as something that is installed along with Acrobat X but maybe people are mistaken about that and it was just left over from a previous install.  I know for sure that the workflow that was working on the old machines was outdated; it was 32-bit and can't even be opened in the current version of Automator.  So the old one clearly won't work any more.  For now I'm going to set up a Distill folder on my desktop with the settings I use most often, and direct my PS files there.
Thanks for the detailed reply even though I can't quite make it all work!

  • How to get Adobe PDF to show in Printer dialog

    Hi,
I just installed CS2 on my new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7.
I can't get Adobe PDF as an option in the print dialog box. The Acrobat help files have help on how to configure it once it is in there but no guidance on how to get it installed. If I remember correctly it installed as part of Acrobat Professional on my previous Dell Laptop running Windows XP.
    Thanks,

    Acrobat 7 Professional.
I guess that explains it then.
Does this mean I will not be able to use any of the functions of Acrobat in Windows 7 of just some?
Can you recommend a site that might provide more info?
    Thanks

  • My CUPS printers bleed their settings into both printers when selected through Print Dialog Box

I currently have 2 printers setup through CUPS. One printer has printing options set as 100x230 page size and one as A4.
When the FF printer dialog pops up, the default printer has its settings displayed fine and printing by clicking print produces the correct output to the printer.
If however when I go into the print dialog box from scratch(default is displayed) and select the other printer and check the printer "Page Setup", it has inherited the Paper Size(100x230) from the default printer and not the settings for this now selected printer which should be "A4".
This is quite frustrating as when my users go in and select the correct printer for the print job, they need to make sure that they select the printer, then the page size and then click print.
It might not sound like a big deal but they are printing using both options simultaneously throughout the day and one printer is fine, but the other one requires this messing with on every print.
What I think needs to be done, is every time the printer is selected in the dialog box from the list, firefox should request the full printer info from CUPS and completely refresh the printer settings thus overwriting the previous selected printer settings.
After all, these settings are only applicable at the point the user wishes to hit the print button.
Is there anything I'm missing here?
It seems this has always been a problem.
Help me as it's driving me mad :-(
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    JASON

Is this on one sole PC that has multiple printers available to it? <br />
Or are you printing to multiple shared printers across a network from multiple PC's?
Also if that is from multiple PC's, do they all run the same operating system? <br />

  • Printing a PDF in Java w/ print dialog - How to do it?

Hi, here is what I'm trying to accomplish:
I need to have a menu item named "Print" that is just a standard Print menu, like how you'd see if you selected "Print" in IE or Excel or Word. Something that lets you pick which printer you want to use, whether you have landscape or portrait printing, and whether its duplexed printing or not. And also it should let you select what printer you want to use.
Does Java have something that lets you do this?
Then, I need to be able to print multiple PDF files that the user has selected PRIOR to selecting the "Print" option. The filenames of these pdf files will be stored in an array.
Anyone know how to accomplish this? Thanks so much in advance. I can be emailed via [email protected], or post here.

    Google for Java Print API.

    Hello,
Are you using the standad sap function module or using OLE objects to generate excel?

  • Edit the PDF menu in print dialog

    Hi,
The PDF menu in the print dialog is easily expanded. I can add new destinations to it, I can even add shortcuts to applications which will open the created PDF in that application, etc. I can rename those by going to ~/Library/PDF Services and renaming the aliases.
But here is my problem ...
How do I edit the other options in this drop-down menu? They do not appear in aforementioned Library folder.
If I'm going to "Send PDF via Messages", I also want to "Send PDF via Mail".
And I want to "Save PDF to iBooks" instead of adding it.
And I want to disable the saving the PDF to Web Receipts Folder as I won't use that.
Does anybody know how to edit these?
    cheers,
    Rob

    Try this:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
        activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
        tell application process "Microsoft Word"
click menu item "Print..." of menu "File" of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1
            delay 1
tell menu button "PDF" of window "Print"
                click
-- add a delay here if necessary
click menu item "Create Booklet" of menu 1
            end tell
        end tell
    end tell

  • 4 "Pages per Sheet" in Printer dialog no longer works

I frequently print my documents to PDF 4 pages to a sheet, using the Save As PDF option in the Printer dialog (i.e., I don't have Acrobat installed). The last time I did this about 2 weeks ago, it worked fine. Today, it ignores my settings of 4 pages to a sheet and prints every page as a separate "sheet" in the PDF. The only thing I know of that has changed over the past two weeks is the update to 10.5.7. How do I fix this so I can print 4 pages to a sheet again?
    Thank you.

My problem is solved. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Apple support. When they mentioned I might need a printer driver update to keep up with the OS update, I noticed that I no longer had any printer installed at all. I don't know how that happened, but I will assume it had to do with the OS update.
I plugged in a printer, added its driver (which I later noticed caused me to have a new one, plus the original one reappeared), disconnected the printer (I don't want hard copy), and now it works perfectly as it did before. I get 4 pages per sheet like I should.
Don't ask me why the existence of a printer should matter when I am only creating a PDF. But that is what happened.
Thank you for spending time working to resolve.

  • Missing attachment size in mail 4.3

Hi, when I attach a jpeg to an email, I can see the size of the attachment at the bottom of the window but when I attach a pdf, the 'message size' and 'image size' are both missing. Please does anybody know if this is standard or do I have a problem?

    Stuart,
The problem in the earlier version of Mail was that if the Image Size button were used with PDF, to anything other than Actual Size, the PDF was converted to a JPEG and havoc resulted. It was very purposefully removed in later versions of Mail unless true image files that could be downsized as JPEG files were what were attached. I know this because I was one who pointed out the error that could result. The resizing was prevented in the final Version of Mail 2.x, but the Message size Report and Image Size button were not removed when attaching PDF until Mail 3.x and later.
The current behavior is not a bug, and the Message Size was only meant to appear when Image Size button could be used to reduce the size of the files, and thus the entire message.

  • Opening print dialog automatically

I'd like to put a pdf on my website, and when the user clicks a link,
have Acrobat Reader open the pdf and show the print dialog. (It would
even be better if it would jump to a specific page).
    Is this possible?
    Something like this:
    http://mysite.com/mypdf.pdf?openprintdialog=yes

    This I know.
    Let me refrase my question:
I have a table with selected cells (Rows Cols
whatever ...) I wish to open the print dialog box
with Selection radio button enabled, such that when I
will check it and click print, the selected table
cell get printed. This I had understood.
    Let me refrase my reply:
If you simply print a new table containing the selected data
then you don't need to have the Selection radio button enabled
    in the print dialog box.
