Attempting to run an SCXI-2000 chassis over the serial port to a Mac.

I was told that this is not supported by NI. Can this be done using register level programming or some other method. The reason for serial communication is due to the distance requirement of roughly 300 feet. The mac RS-422 serial interface is cabable of this. Is there another solution out there Using a mac and an SCXI chassis over long distances. Remotely talking(wireless or ethernet) to a local computer near the experiment and using a DAQ Card interface to the SCXI chassis is not ideal solution.

Unfortunately, to communicate with an SCXI chassis via Serial port on the Macintosh would require that a driver for the SCXI 1200 and SCXI 2000 chassis be written. To write such a driver would not only require register level programming, but a thorough understanding of the SCXI hardware, some of which information might not be available in manuals and such. Because of this I don't think it would be feasible to use the SCXI 2000 chassis on a Mac.
I tried to think of other approaches, but the only alternatives I could think of were to use a Windows Machine with the SCXI 2000 or to put one Mac near the equipment, as you mentioned previously.

  • Is it possible to choose the serial port if only the run time engine is installed

    I have an application, which communicates over the serial port. When I use the full version of Labview I can change the serial port without any problem from Com1 to Com2 (similar to the example “Hardeware input output -> serial -> Labview serial vi"). When I build an application and try to run this program on a computer where only the run time engine 6.1 is installed, it is not possible to choose the serial port. Since there is no “Measurement and Automation Explorer” available on the run time engine and no directory C:\VXIpnp is created, when the run time engine is installed, I do not see a way, how I can satisfy the computer with the information it needs for configuring
    the different ports. Any suggestions?

    Hi Daniel,
    Before LV6.1 there was LV5.1 In LV5.1 the way to Spedify a resource was to use a string control with correct VIsa Resource Class identifier. For eg. "GPIB0::11" or "ASRL1::INSTR". With Introduction of VISA Resource Name Control and linking with MAX, These names are Available from Pull Down List and Can be Aliased, meaning ASRL1 which is Serial Port 1 can be called COM1 and so on. However the old method still works with all 6.1 Controls. Only thing is you have to make sure you Dont Conflict the Class Names ie Use "GPIB::.." instead of "ASRL..." when addressing Serial Port VI's.
    To solve your Problem I would Build a Menu ring with COM1 to COM4 in the Pull Down List.
    Next, If I use the Traditonal Serial Port VI wich accepts the Integer as Seria
    l Port #. I just Wire the Menu Ring to this VI.(Remember COM1 is 0, COM2 is 1 for this VI)
    If I use VISA Config Serial Post. I build an Array Constant with Corresponding VISA Class Names So in our case a String Array Constant of 4 elements "ASRL1::INST" to "ASRL4::INST". I Use Index Array Function With the Index Wired to my Menu Ring. The Array Input Terminal Wired to the Array Constant. The Output of this Array will be correct Visa Class Name Based on slection of my Menu Ring. I can Wire this as Input to my VISA Config Serial Port Vi.
    I have attached a Small VI to Illustrate this.
    Drawback: You must Predefine what Ports you will Want to Use. Basically you define all the cases.
    I hope this Answers your Q!

  • SCXI-2000 chassis does not work.

    Hi, I'm trying to configure my SCXI-2000 with a SCXI-1200 and SCXI-1121
    modules. I read in the notes of NIDAQ, that I would have to reprogram that
    chassis with the rscxi.dmg file. But the system just tell me that can't
    reprogram the chassis. I'm using a remote system, with an RS-232 null cable
    modem., windows 98 and version 6.0.1 of NI-daq.
    Please I would be very grateful for any tips.
    It's my final project in the university.

    Jose,
    Without looking into your problem too deeply, I would suggest visiting our
    SCXI troubleshooting page, which can be found by following links through ni.com
    >> support >> daq help >> scxi help .
    The direct link is as follows; these pages are pretty robust with
    install/config information:

  • Run existing native Android App over the SUP

    Hello everyone,
    we have developed an Android app, which connects to the ERP system via  a "simple" Rest webservice. Now we have a customer who wants to run the same app over the SUP. We have installed SUP and want to know which is the easiest way to run our Android app over the SUP. What would be the first steps to connect our app to the SUP. What changes have to be done in the existing code?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Themicaa

    Hi Themicaa,
    Are you using SAP NetWeaver Gateway 2.0 to expose your ERP contents as REST services?. Are you following oData formats?
    Connectivity to SUP would be simple.
    Install SUP2.1 Server. Once you have the above setup ready, you need to do the below configurations.
    1. Configure releay server in SCC.(Only if device connectivity from outside firewall.)
    2. Create security configuration in SCC.
    3. Create applicationID and application connection in SCC providing Gateway Service Doc/Proxy URL.
    Refer thread http://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132783&messageID=11081762#11081762 for details.
    Install SUP2.1 SDK installer.
    With SDK installer you will get libraries for Connectivity, Parser, Cach etc.
    Add libraries from  <UnwiredPlatformSDK_InstallDir>\MobileSDK\OData\Android\libraries\. to your application project.
    Use the below piece of code to register the application wit SUP server.
              try {
                   /* STEP1:Initialize the App */
                   LiteUserManager.initInstance(getApplicationContext(), "applicationID");
                   /* STEP2:Provide SUP connection Settings and Register the User */
                   LiteUserManager usrMngr = LiteUserManager.getInstance();
                   // usrMngr.setConnectionProfile(Server_Host, Port, FormID);
                   if (!usrMngr.isRegistered()) {
                        usrMngr.setConnectionProfile("10.66.57.144", 5005, "0");
                        // usrMngr.registerUser(userName, actCode);
                        usrMngr.registerUser("APPUSER", "123");
              } catch (MessagingClientException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();

  • Share files over the internet between PC and MAC server

    The set up:
    A MAC OS X 10.3.9 server running on a local network in the office sharing files with 15 windows XP and MAC.
    The problem:
    Can't connect a windows XP away (from home over the internet) to see files being share by the MAC server. I can do this with an other MAC from my home when I go to "Connect to server" and then I type the IP adress of my MAC server at the office, login with the user ID and then can see files on the server. When I am at the office, there is no problem with the windows XP machine to connect to the MAC server. When I am at home, I can connect with my windows XP machine to the MAC server at the office for FileMaker server (reside on MAC server at office), but I can not see the files shared on the MAC server over the internet when I connect via windows explorer serveradress
    (no firewall on the MAC server).
    Thank you

    I would like to know this, too. I'm trying to set up something with my bother on a PC. How does he make a connection on windows? I don't know what to tell him to do.
    Gabriel, do you have Wndows Sharing activated under Services in your Sharing Prefs?

  • Windows Kernel Debbuging: Debug over virtual serial port with WDK 8.1

    I'm currently having some issues doing kernel debugging of a Windows 7 x64 target from my Windows 8.1 x64 host machine. I'm running Visual Studio 2013 with WDK 8.1 on my host and have provisioned my target machine running in VMWare.
    Here are my configurations for the target machine. It was configured by reading mostly from here - http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/545835/Kernel-Mode-Debugging-in-a-VM-using-Visual-Studio :
        Windows 7 x64
        Serial port COM2 with VMWare with name \\.\pipe\com2. All proper options in VMWare are checked
        Debug flag for OS enabled through msconfig. Debug port is COM2 running at 115200 baud.
        I ran the test target client "WDK Test Target Setup x64-x64_en-us.exe" on the machine before provisioning the computer
    I was able to provision the computer properly -- it created the WDK Remove User account. However, I'm running into some issues actually debugging. Below are the steps
        Launch the Windows 7 x64 target image in VMWare and wait on the boot menu
        In Visual Studio (host machine), go to Debug -> Attach to process -> Select my computer -> Select process "Kernel" -> Attach
        In VMWare, press enter to boot Windows
        It takes a while, but on my host machine, Visual Studio eventually connects. I can choose to "Break All" and actually use the debugger.
    However, I can't seem to connect to the debugger if I don't do it before booting the kernel. And I can only attach once. For example, I can't let Windows initialize to the desktop and then build my driver and begin debugging. The debugger will always hang on
    "Waiting to reconnect...". The same goes for if I begin debugging on kernel initialization, decide to stop debugging, then try to reconnect or reattach; it will hang on "Waiting to reconnect..." indefinitely as well.

    Follow the directions here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/jj200334%28v=vs.85%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    You are using user mode debug setup menus, that won't work.

    I am trying to tether my Blackberry Pearl to my PC using Blackberry Desktop Manager.  The phone is recognised and connected. I choose the Vodaphone Contract connection profile but keep getting a message that "the specified port is not open".  The RIM virtual modem ports used are COM3 and COM4 and my modem is configurred as COM 3 ,
    Is there a port conflict with something on my PC ? or something that I can do to force a port open ?

    Hi Don,
    I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
    The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
    Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
    In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
    The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
    Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.

  • My case has bent over the network port

    I have recently noticed that the area above my network port is pressed downward.  There has been no damage to my macbook pro, how is this bowing down?  It seems to be a weakness in the aluminim case in this area. Has anyone experienced this?

    I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider  (AASP) for evaluation, or call your nearest Apple Contact Center. Visit the Genius Bar at the Apple Retail Store,  make a reservation.

  • "A script is already running" while attempting to run more than one item

    We upgrade recently to ODT 11.2.0.3.20. Since then, attempting to run more than one item from the Solution Explorer (by selecting the items, right-clicking, and selecting "Run") results in a popup error of "Oracle Developer Tools. A script is already running". If many items are selected it results in many error messages and only a random few of the items are actually executed on the server. Also, choosing "Run On" now results in it prompting for the target database for each item selected (rather than once for all items selected like it used to). This all used to work fine in the earlier release we were using. Has anyone else run into this? Any fixes? We used to use multi-select and "Run" or "Run On" to deploy multiple items at once, but this no longer works -- doing one at a time works, but if you have hundreds of items to run, this quickly becomes unusable.
    Thanks for any insight.

    I don't believe that the intention was for you to be able to run a bunch of scripts one after the other. Often there are dependencies between scripts anyway and so you you have to order them. Because we're generally deploying a large set of stored procedures (and not just one-time scripts) the order doesn't really matter -- even if a stored procedure gets created before one it depends on, once all the SPs are on the server, the ones that are "invalid" will compile correctly once you execute them.
    I think a lot of people are creating master scripts that references child scripts using the "@" sql plus syntax.... have you tried that?
    I'll give that a try as a work around. Only issue I have with that solution is every time we add or remove something from the solution, we also have to update the script.
    We are doing a lot of enhancements to our script generation in the coming year. Keep an eye out for a beta to test.
    Like I said, this used to work fine in the older versions of ODT. It seems like the new version is attempting to execute multiple items at once on the same connection simultaneously, thus resulting in the "A script is already running" error. The old version used to be smart enough to execute them one at a time -- so something changed in a more recent version to completely break "Run" and "Run On" when you have more than one item highlighted (even just highlighting 2 items and choosing "Run" runs the first item, but then gives the error for the second item).
