AU Instrument Keyswitch Workaround

I have a virtual instrument library 8Dio Adagio Violins via Kontakt 5. Great product, however all patches are sets of articulations using keyswitches.
For my setup I have built a template using a mixture of orchestral instruments and selecting the best of each library. I am foregoing keyswitches for a one Midi track per articulation approach. However this library does not offer separate patches for each articulation and this is problematic for me.
1. I cannot preselect an articulation per Midi track
2. All articulations are loaded no matter whether I want to use them
Does anyone know a way to trigger the keyswitches in Logic Pro (which use notes in a predefined register) another way?
Ideally I want to switch Keyswitch when I select a Midi track in the Arrange menu. I tried presetting a Program change in the track settings of a Midi track (which is cabled to the AU Instrument), then adding a transformer that converted said Program change to a Note number. This did not work.
I have seen plenty of solutions to create Keyswitches from several instruments but not the other way round.
PS I am using Vienna Ensemble Pro, is there a way to do it in this?

Hi
(I answered this over at LPHelp, but for completeness...)

This Transformer seems to do the trick:
The Transformer is selecting incoming PC messages on any channel and converting them to KS note On events with Velocity 127. The map 'translates' the PC number to a note number, in this example (using the K5 Factory String Ensemble patch)
PC 0 = C0 (note #24)
PC1 = C#0 (note #25)
etc
The Multi Instrument is simply there so as to provide "Labels" to the PC numbers using the Patch List. A simple Instrument object would work except that you don't see names for the PC/KS selected. These names also show up in the Event List if you need to switch mid part, which is easier than trying to remember all the different PC/KS combos. Channel 1 is switched on in the Multi.
A more advanced setup might need MIDI channels to be considered.
I often enter PC messages either from my iPad or a MIDI controller, and these need to come into Logic on a channel other than Ch 1 (which can call up Channel Strip "Performances"). I have therefore 'fixed' the MIDI channel in the Transformer.

  • Syncronized Loops not starting

    All,
I have process in which I <think> I need to utilized multiple timed loops with synchronization. In one loop,  I am sending a signal low on channel 1, reading a sample on channel 2, and then sending channel 1 high. This repeats every 100ms using a Timed loop.  In the second loop, I am attempting to send out a waveform on channel 3 whose amplitude is updated every 100ms. based on the sample I take in the first loop (using local variables to communicate).
I've attempted to synch the two loops following the shipped example, but what I am finding is that the second loop never starts. The first loop runs immediately and runs as designed. I am not sure if it's the second loop is waiting on something. Perhaps I have my DAQmx tasks setup incorrectly?
(If anyone has a better implementation for variable waveform generation, please let me know that too.)
    Any and all help appreciated.

Well, this is very odd indeed. It turns out that your timed loops will start correctly if you add an extra character to the loop names in the string array for the Timed Structures Name input to the VI called Syncronize Timed Structure Start. The reason your first loop starts is that it actually has a carriage return after the name Loop1. You just can't see it because it's not a visible character. If you add a carriage return or any other letter after Loop2 in that string array (for instance Loop2x), then it will start as well. Similarly, if you delete the carriage return after Loop1 in that string array, it will stop starting correctly. I can't reproduce this from scratch, unfortunately, so it's hard to say if this is a bug or not.

  • Workaround to get Cubase-like instruments window

This is more of a question for Logic users who also work(ed) a lot in Cubase. I'm looking for a sort of 'best practise' in Logic to centralise AU instruments plugins in a project, in the style of the VST instruments window in CB.
To be more specific, I want to experiment with different MIDI tracks which are assigned to the same plugin. In Cubase you don't need to open a new plugin instance for each new MIDI track but instead you assign the track to an instrument which is opened only once for the whole project in a centralised pool.
The only option that comes sort of close to it I found in Logic is Multi-timbral tracks. There are three problems with that. It seems that all tracks are linked to each other as for mute and solo. Secondly, it seems to only work with multi-timbral plugins. Thirdly, I haven't found a way (does it exist?) to add a MIDI track to that multi-timbral group. What I'm looking for is a function that allows me to assign any MIDI track to any plugin instance that is already open.
On a related note, I haven't found a way to switch between plugins on a running MIDI track on the fly to compare how the lines sound with different instruments. As much as I could figure out is that I would have to open a new instance for that track and obviously lose the previous one.
    Cheers for any hint.
** When I say MIDI track I mean Software instrument track in Logic. Sorry, I'm still in my Cubase lingo.

I would have never in this life suspected "Slow response" in audio preferences to have anything to do with muting MIDI tracks independently.
The steps you described work fine. I just have to get used to it. However I reckon it would be such a great enhancement for Logic to have AU instrument slots. I would pay $100 extra for an upgrade with that feature. I don't know if Apple have something like a suggestions box.
... I still don't understand exactly what you mean by this... Logic has AU Instrument slots!! You can click-hold on an existing slot (under I/O in the Tracks' Channel Strip and select a different instrument)... Isn't this what you mean or am i misunderstanding your question?
As you mention tutorials, I was thinking it could make sense to make a "delta" tutorial for new Logic users coming from Cubase and perhaps other DAWs which are quite different in the details. Only those functions would be explained which are not directly intuitive combined with a dictionary of different terminology. A bit like this thread actually. Perhaps it exists already? I haven't found anything else than forum discussions scattered across different sites. Nothing organised really.
Believe me, as an Apple Logic Certified Trainer and someone who works closely with macProVideo.com I have come across dozens and dozens of ex-Cubase users that have switched to Logic. Many well-known ones too. The Logic 101 video tutorial by Martin Sitter at macproVideo.com is possibly the most popular title because it doesn't just cover some basic DAW concepts but goes from beginner to intermediate level in enough detail. Each video is a bite sized chunk so you can easily jump in and out to find what you wish to, and also search videos for topics... Of course, there are plenty of more advanced tutorials on Logic available at macprovideo too!!
I've been using Cubase for 20 years since the Atari days but I'm always open to learn new stuff. I got into Logic more or less by "peer pressure" from musician mates around the globe. However I don't need the basics of a DAW explained, just a translation from Cubase. Sometimes it would be enough to have the statement - what you call X in Cubase we call Y in Logic. Or sorry, we don't have that function but you could do it this way etc...
Anyway, it's a highly recommend title for anyone jumping from Cubase, Pro Tools, Sonar, Live, etc in my humble opinion because Logic has it's own workflow(s) and some stuff that simply cannot be translated as "X from Cubase = Y in Logic" - it doesn't always work that way unfortunately. But once you get the logic of Logic it'll all start to make sense
BTW I'm in Bristol 2-3 times a year. Most of my fellow musicians live there. Perhaps we could hook up some time.
    easy mate
Sounds like a plan! Pop by the macprovideo forums and drop me a line there in the Logic forums and we can chat off forum.

  • How do I get Vienna Instruments (VI's) into a Logic Project?

so, I'm running an  IMax OS X 10.6.7, with Logic Pro 9.1.4
I recently downloaded Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition and Special Edition plus, the latest version.  Everything is now downloaded and ready to go, and I have started messing around with patches, saving matrices, etc. on the standalone Vienna Software.
So my question is, how do I import the VI's into a Logic Project?  I have read the Logic Manual, and it doesn't provide detailed instructions on how to do this.  When I look at the Allowable VI plug ins in Logic, it shows the vienna instruments there, but I just don't know how exactly to go from having the matrices saved in my custom folder, using them with the standalone vienna player to actually using them within a Logic Project to create midi regions/tracks, and turn old midid regions/tracks that were created with Logic instruments in to tracks/regions with the Vienna Virtual Instruments.
    Help?

Yes, I know how to run a software instrument.  I actually figured out how to do this on my own, and am assuming that it is the best way.  I just loaded any software "Logic" instrument, and then loaded the Vienna matrix into a plug in slot.
So that seems to work, but now I have more questions.  Do you use Vienna?
If I already have a violin region recorded on a Logic instrument track, I have realized that i can just copy and past it onto the new track with the Vienna plug in and it will adopt those settings, but my question is this:
Vienna seems to make a big deal out of being able to play all the articulations of one instrument on just one track, with keyswitch controls, etc.  But if I'm working with Midi data on a track in logic and I'm not performing all the parts "live" while recording, how do I get the articulation changes to stay in place, so that I can have a violin play staccato, legato, and pizzicato all in one track, without having to manually hit the keyswitches to change the articulations while the track is playing?  obviously I can't do this while bouncing, or with multiple tracks at once, so how to you create a single track with multiple articulations in Vienna, plug it into a Logic Track, and have it playback with the changes in articulations, without having to manually change it.
    Any ideas?
I have a lot of multi track orchestral projects composed using logic instruments, but I want to get all those over to Vienna Instruments as well.  What would be the easiest way to do this, with consideration to my above question concerning one track for multiple articulations of an instrument?

  • How do i change the play style (e.g on a violin from arco to pizz) in Kontakt while still using the same instrument track, mid way though the song

So if the title is not clear, im really stuck. i got Kontakt 2 and the EWQL sound sets the other day from my uncle and I've been trying them out in logic. My problem is, that in my full orchestral piece, I have a violin 1 which plays pizz at the start. Mid way trhough the song i want it playing arco or legato. I cant do it without physically creating another track to play it on. Is it even possible to change it half way?
    Thanks guys
    Jonathan

Most keyswitched instruments have that already built into the Kontakt patch.  It's probably possible to add that functionality either by editing in Kontakt or doing fancy setup in Logic's environment window, but either of those would be pretty complicated.
If a patch already has those, it should show up in the keyboard view in kontakt (colored keys away from the rest of the instrument range, sometimes a different color).

  • Teststand automatic test report printing using LabView workaround

I tried the LabView workaround for the automatic printing of test reports in TestStand (see email message below).
It will work if I set the URL to a specific HTML TempReport.  However, TestStand is configured to generate a unique test report for each UUT.  So, in the test report directory there are xml reports and the occasional HTML report, example TestReport_00104.html.  Not sure then what to set the URL to?
Note:  Your reference number is included in the Subject field of this message.  It is very important that you do not remove or modify this reference number, or your message may be returned to you.
    Hi Bill,
    Thanks you for your reply.
Right ok. Well, if you are interested in the LabVIEW workaround, I can send this to place it in your modified sequential model.
The workaround works as desired. It does it all automatically. I have set it to not prompt the user for the print dialogue but this can be easily changed. Therefore, for any example program in Teststand, if it is based on the modified sequential model, an HTML style report will be printed on the default printer automatically.
It needs to be placed in the following location:
Within the Sequential Model, within 'Single Pass>>Print Report' do the following:
    - Replace all the 'Main' steps (Navigate to HTML, Print HTML File & Close IE Browser) with the LabVIEW function call.
    - This one function call will do all the steps above at once.
NOTE: In the LabVIEW VI, you will need to select the correct directory where the new html files are being created. Otherwise the print function will not work. This is called URL. Make you sure you have checked this.
For ease of understanding I have included these steps in a word document with screen shots.
As I do not know which version of LabVIEW you might have, I have attached three versions of the .vi file; 2012, 2011 and 2010.
In regards to the mention of Teststand not having built in functionality for automatic printing of reports, unfortunately this is the case.
I hope this will be a sufficient workaround for you.
If you problems implementing this solution, please ask me for further information. However, it should be fairly simple to do.
Just to inform you, I will be out of the office from 12.45pm today for the rest of the week on annual leave.
I will be back in the office on Monday 14th January 2013, should you have any further queries.

    Hi Bill,
    I managed to implement this.
In the sequential model I added a LabVIEW action after 'Add Root Tags To XML Report'
As URL I use a sequence local: Locals.ReportFilePath
I points to the ML report in my case and then the VI works fine.
However I'm looking for extra functionality and that is waiting untill printing is completed.
Can you help me on that ?

  • How can I use different presets on the same instrument?

I use Session Horns Pro with Kontakt Played in Mainstage 3.
You can choose different presets within Session Horns without having to load additional samples and take up more memory.
How can I create different patches that use the changes of Session Horn Patches without duplicating the samples in Kontakt?
If I copy the channel strip and 'Paste as alias" changes made to one copy are the same as the alias. It seems there must be a way to "Automate" controls in an alias that is unique to each patch. I could also use to do this on instruments like Vintage Clav and Vintage B3 where I don't want to create duplicate instances of CPU hungry plug ins just to use different presets in different patches.
Thanks in advance to anyone out there who knows of a workaround!

  • Who's gonna fix this problem? Audio instruments don't play from downbeat.

Time to raise awareness, I think, on another serious Logic problem -- that Logic can't play back notes from audio plugs if playback starts from a downbeat.
Over the past three days I've been working on a highly complex string arrangement, creating within Logic both a mockup and the score. During these few days I would estimate that at least 20% of my time was wasted as I wrestled with Logic's inability to play back audio instruments when starting Logic from the start of a measure.
The plugs I was using were GPO and EXS-24, both exhibiting the same errant behavior.
The situation here is an embarrassment for Apple, the Logic team, and me, the end user.
    Why?
Well, during the course of my writing and mocking up this arrangement, the producer would call from time to time asking me to play him various sections over the phone. And when doing so, I'd always start playback a fraction of a beat before the downbeat (the only known way to get Logic to actually play the upcoming downbeat notes). After a while of this kind of playback it started to annoy him greatly.
When he asked whythehell I couldn't just start playback from THE TOP of a section, I had to explain to him that Logic has a bug where it can't play back notes from a downbeat. After he stopped laughing, he commented that he couldn't understand why "a guy like me" was using such a POS program. I won't repeat the rest of his reply here in public, but suffice it to say that despite the arrangement I was writing (which he LOVED), I was professionally embarrassed because my tools showed up as highly shabby in front of this very well-known producer.
As I said, the only known workaround is to start playback from before the downbeat, i.e., an 1/8 note or so ahead, and having to contantly use the mouse (or type in values) for my left locator to play back the song from various sections proved to be ab-so-lute-ly excruciating over the course of three pressure-filled days.
And... it's not like an 1/8 note before the down beat was always the correct amount needed to get Logic to play back the downbeat notes. So each and every setting of the left locator proved to be AN EXPERIMENT! This meant that playback of various sections would not always commence properly, forcing me to re-adjust the left locator and see what happened...
This problem is over a year old in Logic 7. I'm still on 7.1.1, but from what I've read here this situation remains a problem in the latest version of the software as well.
So... who's going to fix this problem? And when?

Sorry not to have been more help iS.
I hadn't really noticed it before, and not to imply that you were wrong, but you're right.
I guess I've always had a pre-roll and no reason to get upset with it, but now you've bought my attention to it, it's really going to Richard me off! (sorry to all Richards out there).
As for the RAM - Vienna Instr (VI) is very greedy requiring almost all my RAM just for the Strings and WWds. This gets better as you start optimizing each instrument, but early stages can leave you with just 2-300 Mb and a very sluggish response. This means instruments fail to enter and the lines go astray.
I'm getting used to it now, and tend to bounce tracks to audio once I know they're ready, even after optimizing (cleans up the production too) but I want to feed my machine RAM and it's virtually satiated already.
Time for an upgrade and 16 glorious Gb to gorge on. (UHMMMMMmmmmmm - Maybe there's a market for renting out RAM if not a computer.)
As for the EXS and only six audio instruments - can't really explain that, though by your own account (and others) it falls within the known failings of the EXS itself as well as Logic. The concern that comes to mind is that Apple seem poor at responding to such complaints and requests to fix things - look at the undo removing time and key signatures issue, and I've spoken to people about other issues too found in the scoring window, and nothing.
How do we, the voiced users, get such things actually mended?
And on that joyful thought, I shall depart until tomorrow.
Fair ye well - and thanks for your help.

  • East West Keyswitches off by 1 octave in Logic Pro X

I am using East West Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Plus, Play, and Logic Pro X. The keyswitch notes indicated in the East West manual are one octave lower than the notes that actually trigger the articulations in Logic Pro. For example, the solo violin master keyswitch instrument lists the F0 key as the keyswitch for the half step trill articulation. However, in Logic Pro, F0 does not trigger anything, but F1 triggers the half step trill articulation. This is not an isolated incident, as I have tried several other articulations and the keyswitches that trigger those are all one octave higher than they should be. I could just put up with this, except that for the solo violin and other instruments, the keyswitch notes overlap with the regular notes, meaning the keyswitch notes are audible in my track. As a final note, my MIDI keyboard is able to utilize keyswitches correctly (i.e, when I play C0 on the keyboard, the C0 keyswitch is triggered in the Play window).
Is there an easy fix for this?

    kenneth.smith wrote:
I think this worked. The odd thing is, I have a Roland A-88 keyboard but the Yamaha setting works for me. Thanks!
Not odd at all.  The communication in question is between Logic and the plug in.  There may even be a setting within the plug that is basically the same thing.

  • Has anyone come up with new workarounds for Logic routing bugs?

There have been many threads regarding what seem to be a set of similar bugs. These inlude an audio intrument not sounding after a while, or a channel of automation not being read; and the problem is easily fixed by closing and re-opening the song. That would be a fine workaround except that some songs take a long time to load. I used to have these problems occasionally, but recently they have become so common as to be almost constant. That's bad news, but it also is potentially good news since it means that something in my system has an influence on these bugs. I haven't found a thread in which anyone isolated a factor that helps or hurts, but it's hard to imagine all the keywords for this set of problems, so maybe I missed an idea.
Also a new similar bug has started appearing in my system. When I add a bus send, once in a while either some or all audio channels will go silent, even though the graphic indicators indicate that they should be heard. The silent channels might or might not include the one with the new bus send. Remove the bus send and the sound comes back.
It seems as though changes in routing have binding problems.
    Thanks for any ideas!

Absolutely no ideas on workarounds. I have the exact same issues.
Most of the time restarting the computer and session will cure them, but there have been projects where no matter what I do, the faders will not follow the automation data and EXS24 instruments cut out at the same exact time in the arrangement. This occurs even with as few as 6 EXS24 instruments open when on some projects I have up to about 85 open and 30 streaming at the same before I get a CoreAudio error.
    Terrible...terrible.
Any word on whether or not 7.2 addresses this issues?

  • Multiple MIDI tracks to one instrument?

    The plugin is Ultrabeat.
I like putting the kick onto one MIDI track
the snare into another MIDI track,
    hats on another, etc....
Problem is, all of the MIDI tracks that route to the Ultrabeat
are the actual instrument track that has the plugin inserted onto it.
So MUTING one track mutes all the audio coming out of
    the Ultrabeat Instrument track.
An attempt at a workaround is: create a Multi-instrument
in the Environment, and connect it to the Ultrabeat.
But then MUTING the MIDI tracks doesn't do anything.
The MIDI tracks play even when MUTED.
So I'm guessing Region Muting is the way we do it?
Selecting individual regions for muting and solo-ing
instead of muting and soloing the track ?
So..the MUTE button on a MIDI track is there for...NO REASON.
It's just a button that doesn't do anything.
Well.. this MIDI track has muted and non-muted regions on it.
I guess I'll need to remember which ones are muted and which
    are not ?
This couldn't possibly have been something that was thought over
    and planned.
Nobody in their right mind would design it this way on purpose.
A solution would be to allow MIDI tracks to be MUTED using the 'M' button

Are you talking about MIDI track on external MIDI?
your question seems to be related with Instrument tracks...
there many Muting possibilities in Logic...
I suggest to read the manual serch for "mute track"
As you can see in the manual there are tons of pages and paragraphs about MUTE function in Logic Pro... so I cannot explain all the way to MUTE a Midi or Audio
I can only say that Instruments tracks are not the same as External MIDI track device... *but Muting Instrument track is very similar as Audio and Midi mixed together functions*
'cause the Instruments channels strips are AUDIO CHANNELs STRIPs!
Maybe the following pictures can help
Try to change setting with the one shown below
CPU-savings is not the correct therm and maybe this is caused of misunderstanding...
this set allow you to individually mute the duplicate tracks...
_+The "M" button that you are metioned in your post will works as you need.+_
I'm trying to replay to the O.P question
multiple MIDI tracks to one instrument?
if you need to mute individually tracks of a single instrument the last pictures shows the best setting to achieve the result that you are looking for.

  • EXS' Sampler Instrument Count Limitation

    Hello everyone,
Does anyone happen to know of a workaround/ solution to EXS' sampler instrument count limitation? I find myself constantly shuffling instruments and libraries in and out of the Sampler Instruments folder, a process which, given my 1TB library, is tedious and extremely time consuming.
Any "magic fixes" or insights would be highly appreciated..
    Thanks!

    Some clarifications:
I have been running EXS Manager, Pro Ed from the get-go.
Once again, my complaint is NOT regarding slow load times (which, believe me, is grounds for a whole separate post); rather the inability to access instruments altogether. In other words: past a certain, specific instrument down the list, others would simply no longer load. They are visible in the EXS menu, but are flat out "ignored" by the sampler.
Additionally, I have tried re arranging them using sub-folders, but to no avail: The Sampler Instruments folder seems to only be able to handle so many instruments.
    Anyone else..?

  • Database Native web services - load balancing,  Instrumentation , security

    Hello –
I’m proposing use of Database Native web service in our company. Our architects are asking following questions so appreciate your help
    a.     How do you load balance across the DB WS (is there a way to use the F5 to detect downtime and balance the load across the DB servers)? We will be using RAC configuration with 3 nodes.
    b.     Our architect have security concern as user id/password information are in the web service URL, which may prove to be an issue. Is there a way to mitigate this risk?
    c.     Instrumentation in this approach (db native services) is questionable due to development/auto gen of the service logic from the DB itself. We may investigate wrapping the services with OSB to give us an additional instrumentation, policy enforcement, endpoint mediation and security proxy. Thoughts??
    d.     Architect are curious regarding any potential performance issues this may have on the DB server.
    Thanks

    Hi
We've recently begun using Native Web Services, intending to roll out this approach across the enterprise, but we've encountered 2 significant problems so far, which you may want to consider before proceeding ...
    1. NWS returns an exception if the underlying PL/SQL returns a null value - even if the PL/SQL has completed successfully, and null is a legitimate return value (see SR 3-6201969101 - it contains simple instructions to recreate the problem)
(I raised it in this forum but there were no replies - SOAP Fault when returning null from a Native Web Service Stored Procedure
    2. The sequence of values returned in the NWS response message is the opposite to the sequence declared in the auto-generated wsdl - i.e. schema validation will fail (see SR 3-6209016991 - it also contains simple instructions to replicate)
We have coded a workaround for problem 1. where we return <EMPTY> in place of null, and check for it in the client, but without proper resolution we're not prepared to use NWS elsewhere
As a workaround for problem 2. we removed schema validation, again not ideal
Both SRs were escalated 9 days ago, but are still outstanding
Incidentally our database is 11.2.0.1, but I've tested on 11.2.0.3 and both problems are still present
We also wrap the NWS services using an OSB Proxy Service, and came across the same security issue that you describe (b) - to provide the credentials required for the NWS, simply create a Service Account (containing the credentials) inside OSB and attach it to the Business Service which invokes the NWS (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/doc.1111/e15867/service_accounts.htm)

  • Instrument volume different recording vs. composing

Have a client with Logic Pro X, 10.1, OSX Mavericks, Roland MOC-1 synth
Audio from synth fed thru Behringer USB audio
All else being the same, when he composes he sets volume levels (in Logic) for various instruments.
When recording to a track, the volume on individual instruments (only one or two out of seven) is radically altered, either much greater or much weaker.
Does not appear to be clear correlation between any settings and this phenomenon.
I'm trying to support him with workarounds for the various glitches that Logic X appears to demonstrate.
    Anyone encountered something similar?
    Thank you.

    Hi Vikas.
I tested recording audio  with one slide. The published version did not appear softer when recording just one slide.
I then created a new project.
I got the same softer audio when publishing.
I also had 4 slides which cut of the first second of audio. (I made sure to move the audio about .25 seconds from the beginning of each slide, so there was blank space before and after the audio.)
One slide didnt publish the audio at all.
This project was smaller than my first.
This project consists of 23 slides. most with audio.
This time, I did all recoring via: Automatic demo,( no panning).
I did not use the "video demo" function.
What can be done to publish projects with audio successfully in Captivate 6.0.1.240?

  • Working with Ext Instruments (MS2)

Working with external instruments is a very nice addition to MS2. However, I seem to have uncovered some limitations, unless someone else is able to offer an alternative:
Basic config ... I have a single midi controller (EWI) that only transmits on one channel (ch 1). I have an external synth and external effects unit I want to use in various patches.
I have learned that you can't use the same keyboard object and assign it as the input for both the external synth and external effects unit. Even though my EWI transmits on channel 1 only (monophonic) and in both MainStage and Audio Midi setup, the synth is set to receive on channel 1 and the effects to receive on channel 5, whenever I play notes and both external units are receiving their information from the same keyboard, the notes I play on channel 1 are somehow received on the effects unit on channel 5. The result is that the effects unit thinks its getting program changes when it's not. Weird ...
My workaround is to create a Midi object (because I don't want two keyboards on the screen), and assign one to EWI channel 1 and the other to EWI channel 5. Then when creating my patch, I assign the midi input for the external synth to EWI(1) and the external effects to EWI(5). This seems to work, but I wonder if the creation of the extra midi object and assignments causes additional memory usage that could be avoided by using the same one for all things. In fact, since the external effects unit only needs to receive program changes, I wonder why it needs a midi input assignment anyway, since it should just be receiving the program changes from Mainstage and not my EWI.
    Any thoughts?

Hmm, I don't really understand your problem.
    - You can define a keyboard object to ignore the incoming channel.
I only have 1 incoming channel
    - I don't know what you mean with "MIDI object". An external channel strip? That channel strip doesn't allow to define a channel as an input. It only has a MIDI port and channel as an output. The input for all channel strips is always a workspace object (which is abstract and doesn't have a channel)
In MS2 there is a new object called Midi Object that seems to act as a replacement for a keyboard object, except it looks like a little bubble and doesn't display any layers.
What I am trying to do is create a patch that is comprised of either two external instrument channel strips or one softsynth channnel strip and one external instrument channel strip where the external inst channel strip is used to send a midi program change to an external effects processor. In either of these two cases, I have found that if I make the midi input the same as my EWI (channel 1), even though it (the external effects unit) is configured to only receive data on channel 5, it still receives note information which appears to be program change messages. The only way to remedy this is to create either a second keyboard object or one of the new midi objects and assign it's input to EWI on midi channel 5, which technically is nothing since that incoming channel from the EWI, doesn't really exist. It seems like a bug to me because, using a patch bay like a MOTU MTP AV and assigning channels to unique pieces of gear helped to prevent any commands from going from one input device to an output device unless you wanted them to.
Again, I don't really understand your problem.
I know I am probably not explaining this well.
