[Audigy 2 ZS] Mute without fadi

Because I couldn't find a post related to my question, I now try to make one myself.
My Question: Is it possible to deactivate or at least speed up the fade-out on my Audigy 2 ZS which appears when a source is muted? Perhaps by a registry tweak or changing some files in the installation directory?
The reason: My Tv-Pci-Card mutes the source (Auxiliary in this case) as I switch the channel. This happens to avoid strange noise like snaps or something like this. (Don't know exactly how to describe it in English)
Because the fade-out of the volume isn't fast enough I will hear now a loud crack/snap each time I switch the channel.
Unfortunately the TV-Software doesn't offer an option to solve this problem.
My Hardware: Audigy 2 ZS, WinXp Sp3, Winfast TV2000 Xp Expert. All drivers are the most recent version.
By the way I'm sorry for mistakes in the text, my english isn't the best...

Dbr,
There should be no problems, the cards for the plat. and standard are the same. If it is a Platinum Pro that would be a bit different, but the standard platinum will give you not troubles. Just don't loose any of your cables in case you decide to use it later.

• Audigy 2 LineIn mute prob

Hello.
Card is Audigy 2 (6., no external dri've, analog connection to speakers)
In mixer I always mute everything but Wave/Midi, since I'm not using these a lot. With fresh Windows installation, and original driver/apps version from support CD this results in perfectly clear sound. But after driver/apps update, I end up with this problem: upon windows start, there could be heard a low level noise (mouse moving, HDD coping...) This noise is quiet, it can't be distinguished on cheap PC speakers, I'm talking about HiFi here.
Problem isn't there during hardware accelerated music play or EAX games. Not even if I pause in Winamp. But upon stopping music/game there isn't complete silence and it pi**** me off!
I solve this problem by re-muting LineIn. It simply isn't muted on windows start wherever slider is (not even if mute icon is activated).
Everything else runs perfectly, so my guess is that it's Mixer bug.
Thx.

You could try this. Remove the sound card from the computer PCI slot and boot up the computer. Let Windows finish loading and register that there's no sound card and then have it shutdown. Slot back the sound card to the same PCI slot and boot the computer.

• Mute pre-fade sends please

It would be nice for me if muting a track also muted the pre-fade send. I use pre-fade sends quite a bit for reverb, and it seems that in both LP7 and LP8 that muting doesn't work in his respect. I've never understood why it's left like this. Any clues?

Apple Certified Trainer wrote:
However, instead of muting via the Mute button, select the track (which selects all the regions on that track) and press M. That mutes the regions, not the track and there's no sound, hence no pre-send.
Well, you can use the mute button, just not the one on the channelstrip. Use the mute button on the track and make sure you have the preferences set to use the old cpu saving mute behaviour for track mutes.

• Fade out without fade in??

hi, i need to make fade-outs, without having a fade-in. but i can't find any option for that; a fade-out seems to be connected automatically to a fade-in. Can anyone help me out on this?

technically spoken, iMovie has no fade-out.
dissolve, or transition thru black ...
The work-around Bengt recommends is the only way to fade to black AND starting the next scene without a fade-in.
But ………
due to iM's inherent rule
"a transitions length is max half length of shortest clip involved"
this workaround adds some 'black' to that fade-out!
if the fade is 2sec, before the next clip there are 2sec of black - no 'fade-out, cut' ....
when you shorten the black, the fade gets shorten too....

• Line in doesn't work Sound Blaster Audigy 2 - yes mute is off! - any ide

Hi,
I've been puling my hair out trying to hook my decks line out to line in on sound card Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (sold with PC). The sound card works fine for TV etc but I can't get any sound from line in for external devices. I've tried hooking up other devices such as iPod and Hifi and can't get any line in devices to play through my PC.
I've run the diagnostics test and tests complete succesfully.
Any ideas about how to get this sorted? Is this a known problem? Any other settings I can check on my PC?
I've searched the forums and can't see any messages related to this subject apart from one and the suggested solution was to check the mute button wasn't on, obviousy I have checked this one ;o), and the problem is elsewhere.
HELP!!! I'm dying to get a mix recorded onto MP3!!!
Thanks a lot for your help!
Regards
Rob

Rob,
Well if it isn't working on either input then it is most likely a software problem. Is this a platinum version of the Audigy 2? If so you may want to check your mixer and make sure that line2/mic2 is also unmuted to test from it. If this isn't a Platinum dri've, was this card installed in a prebuilt system? Then the front connecter may override the back one. I would launch the Window's mixer, go to options and make sure that every control has a checkmark in it. Then go down the line and make sure nothing is muted. This is mainly a double check step.
I am not sure what else could cause the line in not to work, you might want to consider contacting support directly in this case.

• Ducking without fade??

I am trying to make a video for youtube. This video is going to consist of pictures and a audio track. Now I am trying to put some video on there in key parts and want to use the audio from the video instead of the audio track. I have changed the audio settings to duck the other track and put the fade at 0.0secs but the underlying track still fades out and back in for like 2 seconds. How do I get it to drop out and then cut right back in with no fade???

well what I have basically done is garageband a bunch of music, but then wanted to put in some live videos instead of having the music play with pictures. So the videos are actually going over the music track. But I have decided that I want the audio from the video to play instead of the music from the CD that I mixed in garageband. I assumed that if I ducked it and put the fade to 0.0secs that it wouldn't fade but I guess I am wrong.
So what you're telling me is I have to cut the audio track and delete it in any part where I want to put these videos?

• Looping without Fade in/out clicks

Hi
I would like to play a simple sine wave sound continuously so that it lasts one minute instead of the current 500ms. However, when I loop it I get little clicks where the beginning of the sound file fades in/out. The same clicks appear when I copy/paste it, and I don't know how to get rid of them. See attached picture to see what it looks like. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this.
Thanks
-Darym

You need to edit it so that it joins up at a Zero Crossing point. Should be simple if it is a true sine wave, no crossfade should be necessary. Make sure that you have snapping to Zero Crossings turned on and you zoom in far enough to see the zero crossing.

• Audigy 4 feedback prob

I used to have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card and I recently switched to an Audigy 4 . (I got the SE version or OEM version - whatever you want to call it) With the old card I would open 2 instances of cool edit and have a file playing in one instance and record it in the other. I had my speaker output running through a compressor then back into the computer in the line in input so I was playing the wave file in one instance and record the line in on the other instance . This always worked fine. With the new card when I do this , if there is no sound coming into the input I get feedback . Once I start to play the wave file it records normally and when the wave ends the feedback starts again. I did notice that with the TB card in play properties I could mute the line in and in record properties I selected line in , but with the Audigy if I mute line in in the play properties it won't record. It's not really a big deal except I get this feedback until I open play properties and mute the line in when I'm done recording. I was wondering if anyone else had this happen or if my card is possibly faulty ? Thanks. I thought I would add I can play and record at the same time without a problem as long as the line in isn't involved . It's only sending the wave out of the computer and back into the line in and recording it from there that I get the feedback.

I beli've you mean this from Steampowerd.

• Standalone use of Audigy

Howdy
Can the Audigy 2NX be used without connecting it to a computer?
I haven't installed the drivers yet and thought I'd better ask since that is primarily what I want to do. I'd like to be able to leave my speakers etc hooked up to it without running some computer program. Is this possible?
Also, I don't seen to be able to turn off the mute. Perhaps it needs to see the computer before I can do that?
A thousand thank yous in advance.

stillnotaclue,
The Audigy 2 NX need to be used in conjunction with the computer on. It doesn't work as standalone though unlike the Extigy that is able to.

• How about some specs on the Audigy/X-fi J1 hea

Many cases out there come with two front-panel audio jacks. One for headphones, and the other for the microphone. The Audigy and X-fi include a header (referred to as J) for OEMs to connect these. Information on using this jack is provided to large OEM's like Dell. However, Creative is a little hesitant tp help with the highly experienced mod community.Anyways, lets start with information on the passi've AC97 front-panel dongles that come with most cases. These are expected to be used with the onboard AC97 audio on your motherboard. Here is your typical NC (Normally Closed), switching type, 3 conductor (ring-tip-sleeve) mini-phone jack. This is the type of jack used on most front panels:
The connection to the sleeve is the rectangle on the left. The upper line with the notch is the connection to the ring, and the lower line with the notch is the connection to the tip. The jack also has two normally closed switches that connect to the contacts themselves. Wiring connections are illustrated with white circles. In a typical front panel setup, two of these are soldered onto a PCB with a header. Wires attached to this header are then run to the appropriate connections on your motherboards on-board audio. Now lets look at how an AC97 front panel headphone jack works:
As you can see the switches in the jack are normally closed... So the signal passes from your motherboard, up the wire, into the headphone jack, back through the wire, into your motherboard. When a jack is plugged in, the switches are open, breaking the signal back to your motherboard.Now... I have to mention some ugliness. Some case manufacturers (*cough* Coolermaster, *cough* Silverstone) do something like this on the wires that connect to the motherboard:

This will result in your backpanel outputs (in other words, your speakers) continuing to receive a signal while you have headphones hooked up. Note that sometimes this is also accomplished with some trickery on the front panel dongle PCB.Here is how an AC97 microphone jack is expected to be wired:

I haven't looked into the details of the microphone jack as much, but this is what you will see.Next I will go into Creatives J header. Here is the confirmed pin-out for the J header:
Note this is how the header is mounted on the card:
Pin 3, the headphone detection pin, is of particular interest. When this is switched to ground your back-panel connected will mute. These are the descriptions for the other pins floating around on the net, however I am not able to confirm their accuracy yet:

#5 Back-panel Mute -- short to ground
#7 key pin (shouldn't be there)#9 MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +2VDC when mic is plugged in#0 Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in[/quote]
Pin 3 mutes all the speakers from my tests, however despite the the descriptions of others... grounding pin 5 appears to do nothing... not even mute the back microphone.Pin 9 doesn't appear to mute the microphone either. I am thinking if this pin gives 2V when the microphone is plugged in, that it is intended for optional analog circuits present on some panels (Microphone volume for instance). The AC97 spec provides a 5V pin for this, although no one seems to use it. I don't have the equipment handy on me to investigate further.Now... backtracking a bit here... if you read my previous post, you should see connecting the signal returns on your AC97 front-panel headphone jack to the headphone detection pin (#3) is a useless exercise. This pin is expecting to be grounded when the headphones are present.Essentially for the headphones Creative is requiring OEM's use this sort of jack:
This jack has a switch which is normally open. When a plug is inserted the switch closes. This kind of jack is purchasable from Foxconn and is present on the rare Intel HD Audio front panel dongles.... so they are available. (Intel HD Audio front panels are a whole different discussion, and have no direct relation to the J header.)Onto a few other things.... There was some talk of the microphone front-panel jack being mute without something in the back-panel mic jack. I however found the microphone front-panel jack did work, however the signal sounded a bit poorer. I did not investigate further.
It is understood that AC97 front-panel dongles are of limited use with the J header. However modders and prefectionists like myself ARE capable of building a frontpanel that fully complies with the requirements of the J header. The smaller pins on the header are already sufficient to keep any newbie that may damage his card, far away.
Will Creative please save us some time and reveal specifications for the J header? I already know what most of the pins do.Message Edited by twistedemotions on 09-20-2005 2:50 PM

• Fade effect with DataGrid. Header text are visible ... :(

Hi,
the problem with DataGrid.
If I specify the Fade effect for showing DataGrid, all lines
are showing correct, so the fade works, but the headers text and
the data texts are showing immediately (like without Fade).
Is it possible to avoid this effect? I want to show my
datagrid from alpha 0.00 to 1.00 for ALL elements (for lines, for
headers, for headers TEXT and of course of data TEXT)
Is it a bug?

I had the same problem. I havent fixed it but I did a work
around and used a WipeDown effect in parallel. It eliminates the
headers of appearing immediately.

• Too many SB Audigy Outputs to Cubase

Hi all, I've been using Cubasis 4.0 with my SB Audigy 2 Plat card without any problems. I've just upgraded to Cubase SE3 and found out that it will only handle 4 stereo inputs from the SB Audigy. The problem is that none of the first four inputs from the SB Audigy are the ones I need. Does anyone know how to restrict the available ports from the SB Audigy or perhaps resequence them so that Cubase SE3 finds the correct ones first?Any help would be greatly appreciated.................. Regards

Hi Jutapa,?I looked at the thread and created the project template you suggested. Unfortunately I still have the same problem. It is quite likely that I haven?t explained myself clearly. In Cubasis 4.0 the ?VST Inputs? panel shows all the available (virtual and physical) ports from the Audigy card. These are:?Analogue Mix L - Analogue Mix R
Mix L - Mix R
Mix FL - Mix FR
Mix RL - Mix RR
Mix FC - Mix LFE
Mix RC - Mix RC2
Mix SL ? Mix SR
SPDIF L - SPDIF R
Line-in 2/Mic 2 L - Line-in 2/Mic 2 R
Auxiliary 2 L ? Auxiliary 2 R
Mic in L ? Mic in R?In Cubase SE3 VST Connections (Inputs), the only port options I get are:?Analogue Mix L - Analogue Mix R
Mix L - Mix R
Mix FL - Mix FR
Mix RL - Mix RR
These are numbered as ports ? 8?The port options I need are:
SPDIF L - SPDIF R
Line-in 2/Mic 2 L - Line-in 2/Mic 2 R
Auxiliary 2 L ? Auxiliary 2 R
Mic in L ? Mic in R?Is there a way that I can get the ASIO driver or card to disable the unwanted ports (I don?t use the surround sound stuff) and only offer the physical ports to Cubase SE3? Alternately can the port numbers be edited so that the ports I want become - 8?Thanks?Regards

• Why does the "mute" button not "mute" the new iPad?

Hi,
the problem drives us crazy.
We bought the new iPad on launch Day and every other App (like Hotel Dash) does play Sounds even though the iPad is muted. Really anoying are "between Level" Ads or "pause Ads" (like in Wedding Dash, Lost Luxuries) which started playing while my wife was in the Subway.
The mute Button should turn the iPad to mute without exceptions. How can we fix it? Or do we have to return the new iPad?

Game Sounds do not play at all, but the Advertisement is playing at full Volume. This should not happen.
Ok it is "not a bug it's a feature" or just abuse by App Developers, which i have no controll over? I have to use the volume rocker all the time? Why put a "mute" button on an iPad?
As you were told, the mute button mutes system sounds. Other sounds are muted via the rocker. That's the way it is.

• No pre-fader solo?

I'm using Logic 9.1.6, with system 10.6.8. I have a headphone mix that is routed via pre-fader sends out bus 3 & 4 to outputs 3 & 4, which go out of my audio interface into my headphone amp.
I used to be able to solo my faders or channel strips, and it wouldn't mute my pre-fader sends to headphones. It now mutes pre-fader headphone sends too. I've changed the settings on preferences/audio/general/Track-Mute Solo between Slow Response & Fast Response.

Holy schmoly! When did Logic start requiring "solo safe" on busses and aux sends in order to have true pre-fader solo on the aux busses? This drove me crazy!
For people who are searching for the answer to this, this is the method that fixed it for me.
1. Go to the environment. Find the Aux and Bus fader strips that you're using for your headphone mix.
2. Click on each fader strip's "solo" button while holding control, putting them in "solo safe" indicated by a diagonal red line through the button.
Get a beer. You win.
When did this system start? The previous method, where you didn't have to use "solo safe" worked just fine for me. Bleh.
Happy recording.

• Auto fade on both ends?

When I do an Overwrite with transition, it only adds a fade at the front of the clip. Is there a way to make FCP add a transition at both ends automatically?
I'm using the latest version of FCP.

Perhaps not as simple as what you're asking for but... Edit your clips into your sequence without fades. Define dip to color with the correct parameters as your default transition, Select all your clips in the timeline, make sure your position is at the beginning of the clips and drag them to the canvas to overwrite with transition. word to the wise: Duplicate your sequence before you try this as it's pretty easy to screw up your sequence if you make a mistake.
