Audio and video compressors

how do i set the for my Live! Cam Chat Web Camera?

i think i have waited long enough in order to bump the subject... seriously does noone know how to sort this? it's really annoiyng and i don't know how to fix it. i've tried reinstalling. i'm not all that sure what else to do. i'll try to explain better. this is the error message i get in full:?unable to capture video. please check thta you have sufficient space on your hard disk and the following are set correctly:- video compressor- audio compressor
how would i be able to check how those things are set. i have no idea how to check,?or what they are meant to be set to. presuming thta is actually the problem. the problem only started when i updated my media player to media player eleven. i changed it back to the old version,?but i still have the problem. even after reinstalling. the webcam still works as a webcam, but i can't do those stand alone recordings you can make in the webcam centre. i'd really appreciate any help, and there must be somone out there who knows how to fix it. i don't know if you need more details about the camera. as stated?i have no idea what the serial or model number is, but its a creative li've! cam voice.

  • Compressor audio and video out of sync

I've edited DV video in FCPX (where audio and video are in sync), sent to Compressor, and added the Dolby and MPEG-2 settings to my submitted job. But when I add the output files to Toast, the audio and video are not in sync. Reviewing the video in Compressor, it appears they are out of sync there as well (though it's hard to tell due to the choppiness of the playback there).
Any idea why this is occurring?

Try filling each gap in the audio timeline AND / OR set your encoding to CBR (Constant Bit Rate), not VBR. In some cases the DECODING part tries to fill gaps by "pulling" the next part of the audio if the stream has been encoded with VBR. Good luck.

  • Audio and Video out of Sync after Pro Res export

I´m getting an audio/video sync issue when I´m exporting to Pro Res.
I started off in a HDV1080i50 sequence. Audio sampling rate is 48khz. (16 bit depth)
The sequence is less than 20 minutes long. It plays correctly on the timeline.
When I export the sequence for DVD and view it on a set top it plays absolutely fine.
When I export the video to ProRes (422 HQ - I used Export using Quicktime Conversion) and the audio to AIFF, they quickly go out of sync. This was brought to my attention first by the guys who were making the DigiBeta master, and when I view the exported material in a Pro Res sequence I can see it for myself.
The audio and video clips are of the exact same duration.
    Possible issues...
Some of the narration was recorded at 44.1 khz. I didn´t resample it (I´m still a learning novice..).. but if that is the issue should it not have affected the DVD as well? All the other audio in the project is 48khz.
Most of the material is HDV1080i50..but one clip used was originally an NTSC clip and therefore a different frame rate. However I converted it to a 25fps clip and this is reflected in the vid rate column in the browser where it says 25fps.
Final point, the exported AIFF files..when I import them back into the HDV1080i50 sequence and play back, it is perfectly in sync.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, yes resample the narration to 48k 16 bit.  You will probably be able to reconnect to the resampled files.  Usually works for me.   That's a simple fix and will probably solve the problem.  If it doesn't, you can try to change the codec (compressor) in the sequence settings to prores 422HQ, fully render and see if that solves the problem.
Wait, just reread your original post.  Export from fcp using file:  export:  quicktime movie NOT quicktime conversion with current settings.  If that works without synch issues, use compressor to convert to prores.

  • How to combine discrete audio and video files?

I am working on a project which requires me to merge a video file with a PCM audio file from another source.
I just bought Compressor 4.1.1, expecting to be able to do exactly this.
The only "multiple input - single output" option I can see is creating a surround sound group, adding my audio as left and right channels, and then attaching the video.
This does not work. Pressing "add" at the end of the process does not result in a new job.
    Help please!
    G.

QT7 Pro is able to do this. Cost is $30.
In QT7 Pro, open up the audio and video files to be matched.
Select all the audio and then select copy
In the video window, put the playback head where you want the audio to start then select add to movie.
Verify the playback is as desired, then save the movie. Done.
Takes longer to describe the process than to do it.

Of course, life is good when the in point is exactly the same for both audio and video ...

  • FCP 7.0.2 - audio and video out of sync after QT export! HELP!

I loaded a self-contained movie of my project and exported it through Compressor. However, half way through the video, the audio and video went out of sync.
This has never happened before — only since I upgraded to 10.6.3 and FCP 7.0.2/Compressor 3.5.2
    HELP!

(P.S. I did change the Settings of the FCP from 720p60 to 720p30 about half way through the project, but that shouldn't affect the export.)
About the time you changed FCP Easy Setup from 720p60 to 720p30 DURING Export?
As you stated on this post:

I wouldn't think that's the best time to make a major change.

  • When exporting separate audio and video streams, the audio drifts out of sync

So this is my first slightly larger project in Final Cut Pro X.
When I export my finished project (around 12 minutes long) straight to quicktime, it plays back perfectly.
When I export using compressor, the resulting audio and video streams are two different lengths. The audio comes out a full second longer. If you try to lay them down in a program like Adobe Encore, the audio starts out perfectly in sync. Two minutes in you notice the video is slightly out of sync with the audio. By the end of the video it's comically bad, over a second out of sync.
What's even more vexing is if I try to take the quicktime file that IS in sync upon playback, and try to convert it burn that to a dvd or blu-ray using toast, the problem re-emerges.
I triec searching around, but most of the suggestions that came up were vauge, like, "Upgrade to a real program like Final Cut." (This was in reply to people who were using free software programs.)
I did see one idea surface where 44 and 48 kHz sampling rates don't play well together. So I combed through my project and found all the 44.1 songs that were used, and swapped them out with upsampled versions. Nothing changed. It didn't sound like it would fix it, as people usually said it was a specific amount of frames off, not something drifting out of sync.
So the question is, does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this? Thanks! :-)

Project settings can be accessed and changed by selecting the project and pressing command-J. Then, in the inspector, click on the little gear in the lower-right hand corner to access the settings.
Why are you trying to output video/audio separately? If the content plays in-sync when exporting a quicktime movie (using current project settings), you could try separating the video/audio using MPEG Streamclip as a second step instead of using compressor. For audio, don't change the sample rate from the project settings, and use uncompressed audio (AIFF) as the output format.

  • Please help with audio and video not syncing.

I'm using Encore 3, and have already authored a DVD a month ago without a glitch. The following are the same steps I used, but this time around, the video and audio in Encore are not syncing.
    Here's what I've done.
    1) I export my Final Cut projects to .mov using the following settings (Share > Master File).
    Format: Video and Audio
    Video codec: H.264
    Resolution: 1920x1080
Audio file format: Quicktime Movie (AAC)
    Include chapter markers: Unchecked
    Roles as: Quicktime Movie
    2) I run the .mov file in Compressor using the "Disc Burning" preset.
    3) I then import the .ac3 and .m2v files that Compressor created into Encore.
    4) In Encore, I select both files and go to New > Timeline.
In the Timeline window, the durations on both are the same. But I don't understand why the audio and video are not synced when I preview or when I burn a test DVD. The audio comes in just a tad late.
    Video Clip:
    Source In: 00;00;00;00
    Duration: 00;02;33;29
    In-Point: 00;00;00;00
    Out-Point: 00;02;33;29
    Audio Clip:
    Source In: 00;00;00;00
    Duration: 00;02;34;00
    In-Point: 00;00;00;00
    Out-Point: 00;02;34;00
What's puzzling is that two of the 10 videos I've import to Encore are synced perfectly -- same export settings from FCP, same settings Compressor.
    Please help.
    Thanks!
    Mark

    Hi Mark.
Do you have any situations where there is more than one video file in a timeline?
Secondly - why are you using H264 HD files for a DVD? This is using lossy compression to make the H264, which is in turn then scaled & even further bitrate reduced for M2V.
I would give it a try rendering an SD video file for use in Encore - not the H264 - and starting out with Dolby Digital or LPCM audio, not AAC.
As with all DVD authoring programs, Encore works best with DVD compliant assets - which you are most definitely using - but I still think you are over-complicating things by using H264/AAC at all.
    Eliminating this may help.

  • Audio and video compression preferences for export to DVDSP

    Hi,
I have a few questions here. The first is regarding the internal use of compressor by DVD Studio Pro. It is my understanding from (limited experience with) past projects that quicktime movie files are automatically compressed to an mpeg2 format when imported into DVDSP. To what extent do I have control over the level of compression, and are the default mpegs that were made optimal quality? Where can I check this?
My second question is regarding compression of audio files. Whereas my video files were automatically compressed, I am not so sure about the audio. I was forced to compress the audio down to Dolby2 separately using the external compressor program, in order not to exceed the bitrate on my last project. Was this just a question of one or the other (video/audio) needing further compression than the default amount, or is there more to this issue?
I live and work with video in Europe, where I have recently been told that optimal audio is mp3? 4? rather than Dolby 5.1? Is this correct, and how much more space does dolby 5.1 take than dolby2? How significant an issue is this when making dvd's for musicians?
Lastly, can someone recommend the best quality audio-video compression solution for a dvd containing approx 40 minutes of audio and video footage for use in europe?? or explain how I might go about finding this out for myself?
Thanks a lot, and I look forward to reading your comments.

Settings for DVDSP's internal encoder can be adjusted in DVDSP preferences. Press Command-, - that's the Apply and the comma keys - to bring those up, then select the Encoder tab. In your case, make sure you adjust the settings for SD DVD (and not HD-DVD). You will also be able to specify whether to encode in the background (basically, as soon as you import your file) or encode on build, at the bottom of that tab.

Was this just a question of one or the other (video/audio) needing further compression than the default amount, or is there more to this issue?
I can't confess to have read any of your previous threads, but if you exceeded bit rate, that is a common reason to need to use Dolby compression for your audio. (unless you can afford to recompress your video files)
That is, if you video files use a high bit rate (say over 6 Mbps average), then it's usually necessity to use Dolby compression to make sure that all your footage fits on a single disc. (this is a simplification, of course, but I think you get the idea)
Or was there more to this question that I'm missing?

Someone was mistaken when they told you that DVDs accept - let alone are optimized for - mp3 or mp4 files. That's flat out wrong.
As for the difference between Dolby 5.1 vs 2.0, that depends on your encoding rates. Typically, most folks encoder Dolby 2.0 at 192 kbps, with some choosing to up the bit rate to 224 kbps. Beyond 224 kbps, you're not actually improving audio quality for a 2.0 mix, you're just bloating your file size. When it comes to 5.1 audio, it's typical to encode your audio at 384 or 448 kbps.
When it comes to compressed audio vs uncompressed audio, it does matter when you're making DVDs for musicians. But that means that you'll probably need to lower the bit rate on your video files.
Lastly, can someone recommend the best quality audio-video compression solution for a dvd containing approx 40 minutes of audio and video footage for use in europe??
If you want to keep you audio as AIFF files, set your encode to 2 Pass VBR Best, with an Average bit rate of 5.0 Mbps and a Max bit rate of 7.0 Mbps. If you need things to happen a bit faster, use One Pass (not One Pass VBR) and use 5.5 Mbps as your bit rate.
If you want to have a firm grasp over how all these numbers work, there is a section at the back of DVDSP manual, that explains how to calculate bit rates (what we call bit budgeting in the business). Give that a quick once-over if you can.

  • Audio and Video Performance Tweaking

Hey guys I'm back with more questions.  I'm trying to improve the overall quality of my video conference experience.   My target market is the elderly and their families, so not necessarly people who are used to computers and tweaking things so we want to make it as good as we can right out of the box.
    Video
1.)  All of my decoded video has clearly visible blocks.  I've attached a sample screen shot to show what I mean.  Is there a deblocking filter option I'm missing somewhere?
2.)  The encoder in flash player 10.x is still H.263 based right?  I'm not missing a secret option to use the H.264 encoder am I?
    Audio
1.)  I've set my audio codec to speex in my audio publisher, and it looks like it defaults to a quality setting of 10 (<rtc:AudioPublisher id="audioPub" codec="{SoundCodec.SPEEX}"/>).  Am I missing any tweaks to improve the audio quality?
Audio questions where I assume the answer is no but I ask anyway
2.)  Does the LCCS code or flash player prioritize audio packets over video packets or are they just sent when they're available.  I'd like to sacrafice video for audio if it's possible.
3.)  Is there a way to better syncronize the video and audio streams.  Right now there's a lot of lag between what is said and how the lips move (this is even with peer to peer on the same private network).   I get the idea that there isn't but I thought I'd ask.
4.)  Is there anything I can monitor to give me an idea of the current connection performance?   In otherwords can I monitor something and then make my own decicions to reduce the video quality or audio quality based on avaiable bandwidth between the two connected peers?
5.)  You secretely have echo cancellation built in but were waiting till now to tell me right?  Just kidding.
    Thanks as usual
    -Eric

    Hironmay,
Thank you for getting back to me, I know I asked a lot in one post there.   It would be nice to have a way for audio packets to be prioritized over video since they need to get there but  you can live with dropped video frames.   I'd love to see a way to sync the audio and video up as well.  I was just reading about some research where they showed if you can watch someones mouth move while you hear them talk it's equivelant to a 20dB volume increase (referrning to how well the person can understand you.)   I have elderly users so something like that is very important to me.
I agree with you that when I changed the captureAndHeightFactor that the blocks got smaller, but did not go away.  I was hoping there was a way to smooth out the edges of the blocks so the boundries don't look so harsh.   I had been looking at flash.media.video in the flex 3.4 language reference and it talks about deblocking.  I copied the relevent text from the documentaiton at the end of this message.  I was wondering if there was something there I could use.   I'll play around with it some more.
Believe me I've been very vocal about the need for echo cancellation on the Flash Forums
    Thanks for the help,
    Eric
    relevent text from flash.media.video
    deblocking
    property
deblocking:intIndicates the type of filter applied to decoded video as part of post-processing.      The default value is 0, which lets the video compressor apply a deblocking filter as needed.
Compression of video can result in undesired artifacts. You can use the       deblocking property to set filters that reduce blocking and,      for video compressed using the On2 codec, ringing.
Blocking refers to visible imperfections between the boundaries      of the blocks that compose each video frame. Ringing refers to distorted      edges around elements within a video image.
Two deblocking filters are available: one in the Sorenson codec and one in the On2 VP6 codec.      In addition, a deringing filter is available when you use the On2 VP6 codec.       To set a filter, use one of the following values:
0—Lets the video compressor apply the deblocking filter as needed.
1—Does not use a deblocking filter.
    2—Uses the Sorenson deblocking filter.
3—For On2 video only, uses the On2 deblocking filter but no deringing filter.
4—For On2 video only, uses the On2 deblocking and deringing filter.
    5—For On2 video only, uses the On2 deblocking and a higher-performance      On2 deringing filter.
If a value greater than 2 is selected for video when you are using      the Sorenson codec, the Sorenson decoder defaults to 2.
Using a deblocking filter has an effect on overall playback performance, and it is usually      not necessary for high-bandwidth video. If a user's system is not powerful enough,       the user may experience difficulties playing back video with a deblocking filter enabled.

  • Convert to MPEG2 Combined Audio and Video

I am editing a commercial that needs to end up in MPEG2 with combined audio and video. What is the process by which I do this. Obviously compressor splits the audio and video, but I need it combined.

    Been there, done that.
I know the layout of Compressor 2 was different - can't remember if these presets were added for 3. Have you looked for Program Stream presets under Compressor 2?
Here's a thread I found on the Cow - says that after you use Compressor 2.3 to create your MPEG and AUDIO files, use MPEG Streamclip to mux them.

Video and audio recording works on YouCam V3.5.1.4606
Make sure you have turned on a working microphone in Settings:
    YouCam > Right-Side   Settings >
Right-Side, Lower-Right, Select a working Microphone from the Drop down list
    AND
    CHECK "Capture with audio"
    OK
You can also buy (for $38 US) YouCam 5.0 from the Cyberlink.com website and it has audio/video and all sorts of other goodies, too.  (They have 3.x as well, but why buy what HP already gives you?)
