Audio clips on question slides?

I am new to captivate and so far, I love it.  However, I am working on a drill and practice tutorial in Captivate 5 and need to add audio clips to my questions slides.
I have tried adding a roll over text as was suggested in an earlier thread, however, when I play the project, the audio doesn't play.  My audio clips are about 1-3 seconds long and I need them to be repeatable (not just once as the slide opens).
I haven't had any trouble with the audio on the regular slides, just on the question slides.  This is a quiz and I would like to use the random questions feature so it (the quiz) doesn't become predictable. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks so much!

Looping the audio on a question slide might not be the best strategy unless you are using this for some gentle background music that you wanted to play while the learner was answering the question.
For instructional voiceover, the rollover caption would be the better choice.  There are two parts to a rollover object.  The rollover area is the hit area that your mouse must roll over.  Audio attached to this part will play once when the slide loads.  So it's a good choice if all you want to do is tell the learner where to find more info. E.g. "Roll your mouse over the Info button if you don't know what to do."
The other part of a rollover object is the caption or image that will appear when the mouse is rolled over the rollover area.  Audio attached to this part will play each and every time the mouse event occurs.  This is the best choice for adding audio if you think the learner may need to hear the instructions more than once but you want to leave them in control of when they hear it.
As soon as they roll the mouse off the rollover area, any audio attached to the caption or image will cease to play.

  • Mystery Audio added to question slide

I am working in Captivate 4.
Whilst creating a series of question slides I came across a problem whereby one or two of the question slides would not move on after the correct answering of the question.
Turns out that the slides that would not advance had somehow got a short audio file attached (see under Slide 10 bottom left in screenshot).
Luckily I spotted this quickly, otherwise I could have been spending hours trying to resolve this.
    I have not added any audio to any of my question slides so wonder;
    a. What caused the small audio to attach itself to the slide ?
    b. Is this a known problem with Captivate 4 or others ?
    c. Do I have a problem with my version of Captivate ?

To do something like this in Captivate 5 you're probably going to need to create something in AS3, e.g. a Static Widget that does something similar to what you accomplished before in AS2.
If you already know AS2 then learning AS3 shouldn't be all that difficult for you.  There are plenty of resources on the web.

  • Adjusting audio volume for all slides?

I can easily do this for one slide, but when I Shift-click to
select all slides, then apply Captivate's Audio / Edit Timing menu
option, the dialog shows me an Adjust Volume option that adjusts
the volume for all slides in the movie. But, when I adjust the
volume and press OK to exit the dialog, the new volume setting is
not saved with my movie. Is this a bug? Anyone?

Hi boonedogr and welcome to our community
In the words of Yoda: Hmmm, seems a bug we have found!
So here is how to make it stick.
    1. Click Audio > Edit timing... and you should see the
    "Edit Audio Timing" dialog.
    2. Click the Insert Silence toolbar button. This should
    produce the "Insert Silence" dialog.
    3. Change the "Insert" field so it reflects 0.001seconds of
    silence.
This step is necessary to trick Captivate into accepting the
audio has indeed changed. I use 0.001 seconds as it is the minimum
you can insert and it should have absolutely no discernable effect
    on your movie.
    4. Now click the Adjust Volume button to see the "Adjust
Volume" dialog where you can alter the volume level as well as
    boost dynamics and whatnot.
    5. Make adjustments as desired.
    6. Click OK to dismiss the Adjust Volume dialog.
    7. Click OK to dismiss the Edit Audio Timing dialog
At this point, you should notice several progress indicators
as the audio clips for all slides with audio are adjusted to
    reflect your new settings.
*NOTE: This will have no effect on Background Audio or Object
Level Audio. Those clips will need to be adjusted manually as a
    separate process.
Hope this helps a bit... Rick

  • Can 2, 3 QT audio clips play sequentially when embedded in a Keynote page?

In Keynote, can I embed 2 or 3 (4?) QuickTime audio clips into one separate Keynote page/slide and have each clip play in its proper sequence?
    The background:
I am making (for a friend) a Keynote presentation (on taxes) which will be exported in QuickTime to Youtube. Instead of making ONE audio clip per page/slide, I am making 2 or 3 separate clips in order to cut down the time involved in redoing the whole voice-over when my friend makes a mistake. He is not a professional speaker and gets stuck sometimes. When he has gone a certain length of time and has done well and comes to a logical break in thought, I just stop the recording. That way if he makes a mistake in the next recording, he doesn't have to start from the beginning again.
This morning I woke up thinking about it and realized that if all goes the way it would unless I do something extra, all two or three or four audio clips that I embed on a page will all begin playing at the same time! So I figure to avoid that, I can “program” each clip to start after a certain number of seconds.
Please advise. This tax presentation means a lot to my friend and it is important.

If each of the audio clips is a separate audio file (track) then each can be played as Build-in (Start Audio) either on a Click or Automatically. Thus, each can be "synchronized" with its associated graphic image by having the audio and graphic Builds occur simultaneously.
Remember: If you are scheduling an Automatic Build, the actual Duration you specify in the Build menu depends the processor speed of the playback computer, so if the timing is critical, you need to confirm this on the playback machine.
    Good luck.

  • Audio on Question Slide

    Hi,
I am building a program where the participant listens to a
conversation and then has to answer questions about what he/she
heard. I would like to add a button to the question slide called
"hear it again" where they would click on it (or rollover) to hear
the audio track again. In a regular slide I would add a Button but
that option is blanked out on the question slide. Anything else
such as a caption, automatically plays the sound track.
Help! Anyone have any ideas about this?
    Thanx in advance!
    Gary

    Hi again
No, you aren't doing anything wrong. That's the way rollover
Images and Captions work. They don't display until your user mouses
over the rollover area. You asked for something that could be
clicked or rolled over to hear the audio track. Since clickable
items are a no no in Question slides, the rollover is your best
    bet.
Note that you don't need any Image or Caption to actually
appear if you don't want that. Just use an image that's a solid
color and set it as transparent. Or, for a caption, set the caption
as transparent with no actual text. The key is assigning the audio
to the Image or Caption itself and not the rollover area.
    Cheers... Rick

I have a question slide that has audio to recite the question and then audio for the correct and incorrect explanations. However, if the user hits submit prior to the question audio finishing, the two tracks play over one another. How do I stop this?

  • Continuous audio clips between slides

how do you make the same song play for 2-3 slides? i know you can add a song to the entire presentation but i want to have that specific clip for only 3 slides. Also, is there a way to make a smooth transition (ie: sound fading out and into the next sound clip with each slide change) between slides and different songs??

Greetings and welcome to the Forum.
The only way to accomplish what you want (within Keynote) is to create a new audio track from your audio "clips" off-line (for example in Garage Band) cross-fading between them.
Next, create a "sub-set" presentation, containing only the slides that will be associated with this audio track.
Then, import this track as a Soundtrack for the "sub-set" presentation.
Now, Record the Builds and Transitions for each slide in sync with the audio track.
Finally, link each of these "sub-set" presentations together via Hyperlinks.
Yes, it is cumbersome, but the ability to deal with audio is severely limited in Keynote.
You also can use other off-line programs to create audio-with-visual segments and then import these into Keynote. But that's a whole other story ...
    Good luck.

  • Question...audio clips being cut off

Hi...just started having this issue...audio clips, usually less than 20 seconds, are now being cut off at the last few seconds of the clip. Can't figure out wny it is happening or how to correct it. If I select Edit, Play Original, I can hear the full clip.

Welcome to the PPRO forum, soneman28. We're going to need some more info.
What version of PPRO are you running. Exactly (e.g., "6.0.5" or "7.0.1" = good; CS6 or CC = not good)
exactly what kind of clips? The file type. The audio codec. And their source, too.
if they're A/V clips (as opposed to audio-only), have you messed with the frame rate through the Interpret Footage dialog?
Do you hit this problem both in the Source Monitor and with clips that have been added to a sequence (i.e., playing from the Timeline/Program Monitor)

  • Can't get my audio clip to work in Keynote except in edit mode. I've followed Help instructions to the letter. Any suggestions?

Can't get my audio clip to work in Keynote except in edit mode. I've followed Help instructions to the letter. Any suggestions?

Hi Gary - thanks so much for your help. I'd already done that, but finally stumbled across the answer for my situation. I'm new to iMac and this is the first time I used Keynote, so maybe this info will help someone else along the way - I still haven't found this in any of the Keynote documentation or forums I've read.
My slides were all set up with at least one text box in which the text was animated. The sound was the last thing I added to each slide, exactly following the info in Keynote Help re: adding audio. The audio would work when I tested it in Inspector mode, and also if I switched to soundtrack instead. But not if sound was added to each individual slide. Hmmm. After I submitted the question above, I was running through the (auto) slide show one final time to check text, animation, etc. when I noticed that on just one single slide the sound effect came through, but at the very tail end of the slide. Hmm again. Why?
Through trial & error, the answer was in the animation section - not very intuitive re: audio. The steps to correct the issue were: 1) click on the sound icon embedded in each slide, 2) click on the animation tab in Inspector. 3) There's a drop-down menu there that allows you to reposition the audio clip to the #1 spot (if it was added after other "animation"). This allows the sound to begin before the text animation begins on each slide. Before doing this, I guess the sound was in there but the slides were transitioning before it had a chance to play.
Since this is the first time I've used Keynote and it's the most recent version, I'm not sure if this is a new feature to allow users to choose where within a slide to play a sound effect, but I'm guessing that might be why was unable to find any info on how to solve it. Hopefully this will help others who get stumped.
Thanks again for jumping in to help! I really appreciate it.

  • Two Audio tracks in one slide?

I've looked everywhere for what ought to be a simple answer
to a simple question, but can't find one...
Is there any way to have more than one audio recording in a
single slide in Captivate 2.0? Let's say I want to have a soft
music track playing in the background, plus an audio clip from a
narrator going at the same time. Or I've got the same audio track
that I'm going to use over and over again ("Click the NEXT
button"), and I just want to have it play at the conclusion of
another narrated track. Surely there's got to be a way to do
something this obvious, and yet I've scoured the instructions and
the internet, and can't find anything. When I attempt to drag a
second recording into a slide, it replaces the existing recording
with the new one. The assumption seems to be that nobody would ever
want more than one audio track on a single slide, either
concurrently or sequentially. Am I just missing something
    obvious?

spjarrell, sorry to see you are unhappy but it looks to me
like it is just a case of frustration with your own level of
expertise. Osmosis is hardly ever the best way to handle the
learning curve for new software. You have to actually put forth an
effort, do some study, and - probably most important, don't be
afraid to ask questions right here.
Did you notice that Adobe Community Expert Rick gave Wilma a
full and complete solution to her problem? What made you think this
program would be similar in any way to something you owned seven
years ago? Did someone tell you this is "Just like Flash was back
in 2000?". If so, you need to change your vendors because this one
    is lying to you.
I'll help with your only question, to wit ...
    quote:
I have been trying to figure how to start an audio clip when I
click on a button. However, any time I add audio to anything on the
slide, it automatically starts when the slide starts.
Any audio you add will begin playing when that object first
appears on the time-line or is activated by an action. If you
want audio to play when a button is clicked, place the audio on the
slide or object that will immediately follow the button-click
    action.
For instance, you can put the audio on the following slide,
and set the button's properties for a "successful" click-action to
    "Go To Next Slide".
Or perhaps you would rather attach the audio to an invisible
highlight box (create the highlight with "0" for a border, and
"100%" for Fill Transparency) ... then position the highlight box
on the time-line so it appears immediately after the button (which
is pausing the slide?), then set the button properties on
    "successful" click to "Continue".
When the button is clicked, the slide will "continue" down
the time-line for that same slide, and will immediately come to the
invisible highlight box which in turn will immediately begin
playing the audio. There are any number of ways to accomplish what
you want - these are a few that come immediately to mind, and
hopefully will be of some help to you.
P.S. Welcome to the User2User forums. We are always happy to
help, but please ask your question to see if there is a simple
    solution
before condemning the product. Most user issues are just a
matter of knowing the tricks and advanced uses, but the experts
here prefer to help those who don't come on with "attitude".

  • Seeking Keynote transition triggered by completion of video or audio clip

I've searched for an answer, and not found it elsewhere, so I'm posing my question here.
In Keynote, the automatic transition from one slide to the next is a matter of the timing defined in the Inspector. One thing that seems to be missing is the ability to trigger a slide transition (or a build transition) upon the natural ending of a video or audio clip. In a complex slide, with many builds, with various timing, plus a voiceover audio clip, I seem to have to calculate the sum of all the build transitions and estimate the amount of delay I need to incorporate such that the clip completes before the transition, then it is a matter of Play & Edit to fine tune that timing. I'm looking for the ability to transition based on the completion of the clip - somewhat similar to the existing feature where a build element occurs, for example, "After Build X" (with a defined delay). Perhaps I need to be able to have multiple levels of build nesting. If anyone has solved this problem, or knows of the solution, please let me know.
The bottom line is that I am trying to get away from trial and error timing with slides containing video and audio clips.
    Thanks,
    Brian

Unfortunately, there's currently no solution to this problem. You can send feedback, though, through this page.

  • Captivate 5: Audio plays on next slide and it shouldn't

I have a quiz set up that asks students to match audio clips with the musical score that correctly notates the audio. The audio clips are all self-contained SWF movies that I created with 2 slides: the first has a play button; the second has a stop button and the audio file. In this way, students can toggle the audio on or off. Some quiz screens (Matching) have 3 audio files; others (Multiple choice) have 1. Between each quiz screen is a Review screen; if the student got the answer to a quiz question wrong, they are automatically taken to the Review screen where they are shown what their answer was and the correct answer was to the question. The Review screen looks exactly like the quiz question in that I copied background, audio SWF(s), notation graphics, etc from the quiz question, and then also display the correct answer. It doesn't use one of Captivate's built-in quiz screens, but it's mocked up to look like the preceding quiz screen.
My problem is that on the Review screens, if I play then stop an audio SWF, and then click Continue to move on to the next quiz question, that audio file plays unbidden on the next screen. I can then play the audio on that quiz screen and it competes with the audio from the previous screen that shouldn't be playing. I cannot stop the audio from the preceding screen; I can only wait it out. All the audio SWFs are set up on the timeline to last exactly 3.0 seconds, just like every other element on each screen including the Continue button. The problem does not seem to happen on the screens that use a built-in Captivate quiz screen. Can anyone give any insight into why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? I'd be happy to post my Captivate file for anyone willing to help.
    Thanks!

  • Is there any way to get questions to appear on a question slide after a certain amount of time?

Here is what I'm trying to accomplish.  I would like the narration to play on a slide, and some images will appear while the narration is speaking as well. Once the narration is done the questions will appear, and the user can select their answer.  I do not see anywhere that I can set timings for the question area.  I thought about making this into two slides, but if the user wants to hear the question again they would be unable to since it's on a previous slide. If anyone has an idea, or a workaround, please let me know.

The default objects on question slides (question type, question, answers, buttons...) are embedded in that slide, don't have a separate timeline, and that is why you cannot time them individually at all.
    Two possible choices:
Create a custom question slide, using standard objects (over which you have total control), advanced actions and scored objects to transfer the score to a LMS if that is necessary
Use two slides as you already proposed: you can set the objects to display for the rest of the project, so that they also will be visible on the second, question slide. You can add a shape button to a question slide, to have the narration played again if the user wishes, using the same audio clip as you used as slide audio (I think) on the previous slide, now with the command 'Play audio'.
