Audio Levels Are Different within program

For some reason when I am editing a multi-track project I seem to get three different levels as I go along.  When I am editing a single file the levels come out as one thing.  When I get the levels good, usually around -4 or so I play them back on the multi-track editor and I'm well up and over 0 into the red.  On top of that when I import back into the Final Cut all the levels are completely different wiht some being low and some behing higher than in Soundtrack Pro.  All level adjustments made in Final Cut were cleared out so any project I bring in doesn't have any level variations.
Thanks!!

Also, in the sequence the Edit in Audition option is greyed out? I can't round trip and work through the clips individually? Is there something I need to switch on or something?

  • Audio Levels are completely different when exported from Premiere to Audition?

    Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I've adjusted the audio gain and volume levels on an interview I'm editing and it sounds pretty darn good in Premiere Pro. I exported the sequence to Audacity to do some hiss removal but quickly realized everything is different. The volume levels are way to high on lots of my clips? Why is this? I cannot really work with it in this current state because it would mean re-doing lots of work I've already done in Premiere. Any one got any ideas?
    All the best

  • Recording trouble. Audio levels are normal and then quiet?

As you can tell by the title, I have no idea how to properly phrase this issue. Anyways, I have had difficulties recording on this computer...
    Information to keep in mind:
    - The model is Satellite C655D-S5200
    - I have owned this computer for nearly two months
    - This problem has been present since the first day I tried recording with it
    - I record with Audacity
    - This problem occurs in other programs, such as the default webcam program that came installed with this computer model.
Since I can't really seem to put what is going on into words, I thought it would be best to upload a screenshot of the problem. Also, I have included a screenshot of my current recording device. Hopefully the screenshots work. Otherwise, I'll do my best to describe the problem.

Just to make sure I'm understanding, when you're recording something that's at an approximately non-fluctuating audio level, the recording drops substantially. The audio level of the recording is dropping even though the audio level of the source is not, correct?
You could try reinstalling the audio driver.
    Conexant Audio Driver(v8.54.1.0; 02-23-2011; 42.15M)
I've never heard of this kind of issue before. If that doesn't solve it, I'd suggest contacting technical support at (800) 457-7777.

  • When burning edited footage to DVD the audio levels are low.

I have edited video footage in FCPX for which the audio levels appear fine but when I burn it to DVD and watch the footage, the audio is very low. I have then increased all audio levels in the editing footage to + 12db and burned it to DVD again. Even thgough some of the audio are downloaded tracks from itunes all audio still seem to be quite low.
    Am I doing something wrong.

Is your project audio set to surround or stereo?
In the project list select the project and then click on the spanner icon at bottom right of inspector.
It will tell you. and you can change to stereo if that is what you would normally use.

  • Audio Levels on different tracks-How do I adjust them

I have a series of inteviews on my edirol which come across fine into ST. I've moved into production and have recorded some fixes and patches to complete the interview. These were done directly into ST using a mic. This is where the problem occurs, I can't seem to find where to adjust the audio levels for the new tracks I recorded. Having read through the ST doco, its brevity is to be admired. Help, any help appreciated.
I'm new to the sound field, currently studying journalism and audio is part of the brief.
    regards, Wayne

    Hi WayneAu,
1- In the audio tracks section, click the 'envelopes disclosure triangle'
2- In the 'volume envelope' portion of the track (it looks purple) double-click on the dark line. This adds a keyframe.
By clicking and dragging a keyframe you can adjust the volume for specific portions of the track, perform fade-ups or fade-downs, etc,.
    I hope this helps.

  • Video and Audio Files are different lengths when exporting

I'm just trying to get comforatable with a much faster Windows workstation on PPro and AE.
I just exported my first project from PPro to burn to Blu-ray like I've done dozens of times on our older Mac Pro w/o problems.
My Ppro file is 7:04:18 in length.  I export the video as an mp2 Blu-ray video and import it into Encore and it shows up at that same length.
I export the audio as an aif and import it into Encore and it shows up as 7:06:19 in length--2 seconds and 1 frame longer.
    Everything is CS6.  File is 1920 x 1080, sq pixels, 29.97.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Thanks for the feedback.  I exported to aif as I was going to burn the Blu-ray on our Mac Pro in Encore, since we don't yet have a Blu-ray burner installed in our new Windows workstation.
Upon seeing your note, I re-exported the project as you described and placed the wav and mp2 in Windows Encore and they are both the same time length.
It seems the aif should be the same too... but I assume wav is likely the preferred format on Windows so will be using that as the new workflow.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi, with mix16 pro app, can anyone tell me when you set different audio levels for different tracks, does the app remember the level set the next time you use it?  Or does it default to the original setting when you power down after a show?  Thanks!

    Hi
I use backing tracks for some songs with a live band and we are having some issues with levels.  Some are higher than others etc.  I use i pad to run the tracks.  I am looking for an app that where I can control the levels better.  Ideally, an app where I can set the level of each track to a desired level and leave it at that level for good.  Mix16 Pro  seems to do that but I wonder does it save the setting as I do not want to set the levels every time I use it.
    Thanks

  • I uninstalled 32bit verions of PS, ID, IL, now document icons are different from program icons

At the request of an employee, I uninstalled the 32 bit versions, with the goal of ensuring that all users were using the same version all the time, and not accidentally swapping between the 32 and 64 bit versions.  The programs open fine, all is working as expected.  An unexpected side effect is that the document icons (when on the desktop, for example) are the blank sheet with a tiny icon in the middle, as opposed the the full size icon of the parent application.  I can change the icon on the app, no problem, under properties, but the documents don't have such an option.  Can anyone tell how to change these icons, whether in CC or in Windows?  Prior to uninstalling, all document icons were the same full sized icons as the parent app.
    Thanks in advance.

  • My audio levels are too low, what can I do about this?

I'm recording my voice, and using an external mic.
I plan on rerecording once all edits are done, but what can I do about this? I''m as close to the mic as possible. Whats my issue!?

Check the Audio settings in Captivate.  You may need to increase the gain value.
    Is this a USB microphone?

  • Edit in Audition and the levels are different

Posted in Adition Forum as well
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854150?tstart=0
Anyone able to check this please.
I have a test project in PremPro CS5.5 and I created a Bars and Tone Clip.
The Tone on the clip is -12db  (VU meter)
I went "Edit in Audition"  and the same audio wave reads -15db on the VU
    Thoughts!

In Audition, go to Edit > Preferences > Multitrack and change Panning Mode to Left/Right Cut (logarithmic).

  • Flash audio levels are all over the place

Some videos are so quiet that I can not hear it even turning everything up to 100% and then some after that are so loud I am worried I will blow out my speakers by accident. Not sure where to go from here.
    sys env:
    flashplugin-11.2.202.346-1

First you should try setting up a system wide equalizer, you can read the ALSA or PulseAudio Article. Next you may be interested in Dynamic range compression to help amplify quiet sounds and compress and soften louder sounds.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression
You can use LADSPA plugins to accomplish this,  install ladpsa and swh-plugins, you will then need to set up the dyson compress plugin. this thread should be able to help you: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=99185

  • Audio Levels when exporting are too low

so i tried searching the forums to find an answer, but couldn't really find one. Everytime i export a project from FCP (as WMV, Flash, Quicktime, whatever) the audio levels are extremely, extremely low...to the point that I have to bump them up to +12 and duplicate the audio layers several times. I have to imagine there's an easier way to doing this.. any ideas?
    thanks
    Paul

I didn't know you could export to WMV in Final Cut. Must be a new feature since the Apple/Microsoft merge....
As far as the audio, how are you monitoring it in FCP? You might have your speakers (or headphones) turned up really loud, so you think the levels are fine until you export. Also, look at the audio meter. You should judge the overall volume by that, not by your speakers. It's kind of like a waveform scope for audio.
Check on those two things and report back.
    jesse.
ps. just kidding on the merge. that'll start some rumors.

  • Adjusting audio levels

    Hi
I'm working on material where the footage has been filmed by different people and (lucky me), the audio levels are not consistent. On a particular one, the sound level on the camera was turned down so low (I presume) that after capturing, it is barely audible. (and no, there is no chance of refilming the footage!)
I have whacked up the level within FCP but this is obviously causing me problems because you can hear that buzzing noise (dont know the correct term!) that you get when you turn the volume up of something.
I have sort of tried to apply the audio filters here and there to see if it makes any difference but because I'm unfamiliar with terms like frequency, band width, gain etc, I don't know exactly what should be adjusted.
Any ideas would be really useful
    Cheers
    Jenny x

If you are using FCP 5, then you should take advantage of Soundtrack Pro. You can boost audio levels (normalize) and remove ambient noise/hum/etc.
You can get a taste of how to reduce noise in the STP Quicktour:

  • Inconsistent Audio Levels

    Microphone: Heil PR40
    Mixer: Alesis MultiMix8 FireWire
I am trying to record narration, but unfortunately I am getting really low levels when trying to record into Soundtrack Pro (I even tried Garageband but got the same result). The audio levels are ok coming out of the board (loud but no clipping), and when checking the audio input in System Preferences it seems to be where it should be, but when recording they barely register above -20 db on the STP meter and they end up sounding muddied and full of noise when I try to normalize them to an acceptable level. I've tried using a preamp (even though the Heil theoretically shouldn't need one) and it makes little to no difference. What am I missing??? Please help!!!

Thanks for the feedback - to answer your questions, I had all of the levels cranked as high as they would go (even though that is not supposed to be necessary) as well as those of a preamp we picked up. We tried these settings with and without the preamp and received about the same result - the only difference being the preamp distorted the voice slightly. The cranked gain boosted the levels to where they showed on the audio board as healthy (around 0 db) and sounded ok through headphones and/or speakers setup on the board's control room out, but once those came into the computer via Firewire cable, they hardly registered on the software.
I called Alesis' technical support and they suggested trying multiple microphones using multiple channels to see if the board is the problem. I tried a lavalier, an H2 Handy Recorder and the Heil that we are trying to use in all of the different channels - I got varying results by microphone...mostly that the Heil requires as much gain as it can get in order to get those healthy levels out of the board, but that was expected. The other two microphones were much more sensitive. However, the only consistency was that the levels coming into the computer were practically nonexistent.
The part that bugs me the most is that the input levels that appear in System Preferences > Sound are nearly identical to those that appear on the audio board - so where could the disconnect be coming from? Could it possibly be something wrong with the computer itself?

  • Logic Pro 9: Playhead/Playback/Audio Levels/Logic Pro X Issue, PLEASE HELP!

When I press play within the project, the playhead doesn't move from left to right with the audio like it should. As well as within the mix window, the audio levels are not displayed. However, when I click and hold within the arrange window, everything is fine and working properly, but I'm not going to be holding down the mouse the whole time I'm working on a project.
Does anybody have any sort of advice for me at all?
Also, if I were to buy Logic Pro X, would all of my projects currently running in Logic Pro 9 be able to open up in Logic Pro X? I also have the Waves Mercury Bundle, Vangard and Antares Auto-Tune, would all of those work with Logic Pro X?
