Audio pitch control

Hi all,
I am a Flash actionscript programmer. I have come across a
peculiar need in elearning courses I have developed so far.
Some of my users are not able to follow the speed at which
the audio in content pages reads. I have hundreds of pages like
that. I need to reduce the audio speed (pace).
Is there a way to slow down the audio speed (pitch) from the
actionscript or any other way in flash?
Any third party tool also welcome. please help me.
thanks,
Krishna,
India

I'm not sure if flash can do that, but there is a free
program called Audacity, which lets you change the speed of an
audio clip. You can also add periods of silence to space things out
a bit more with Audacity. Inserting silence between sentences might
sound better than changing the overall speed, since that will also
likely change the pitch of the voice.

  • Hidden PITCH CONTROL au in GarageBand 10.0.1

I was playing with the au in garageband 10.0.1 and I found something interesting, I opened an au that says "PITCH CONTROL" by accident. I closed it by mistake and I can't find it anywhere. I want to know if somebody knows how to open that audio unit.

Thank you for your reply Léonie but what I found was completely diferent. it doesn't say AUPitch but Pitch Control,
On there in shows all the notes telling me to choose one. Maaaan I couldn't take a picture to show you. I will give you an example, like the AUDynamicsProcessor showing at the bottom, the Pitch control was showing, I was trying to use the AUDelay and it shows that Pitch control instead. I dont know how I did it and I am so frustrated that I can't find it any where

  • Manual Audio Level Controls! - Sony Alpha DSLRS (A65)

Dear Sony -I absolutely love your DSLRs. However, to use the camera as an acceptable tool for amateur/indie/professional film, manual audio level controls in video mode are a must-have. Equal Canon competitors all feature this simple leveling option for managing audio.Currently, the automatic gain control is the only option for audio recording capabilities on Sony Alpha DSLRS in video recording. While in theory OK, AGC leads to terrible problems such as unnecessarily high and distracting background noise/hiss. Filmmakers desire crisp, clear audio! For quality results using an external microhpone, manual audio levels are the only way for filmmakers to achieve decent in-camera audio to compete with Canon users. Many amateur and professional videographers are in desperate need of this function! Audio is often MORE important than the image quality of your film, although Sony seems to increasingly neglect its video DSLR users by not implementing this ability and falling short on video options (Auto-focus in Manual Mode, audio levels on HUD etc.).To keep my Sony A65 a viable option for video work - please see if anything can be done!  (Should be able to be added with a firmware update to all current and existing Alpha DSLRS) Thanks!!! - Love, a filmmaker who would desperately like to keep their A65 for professional video work! (Also from "Join The Inspiration")

Though a great idea, you also have to understand that the a65 isn't as film oriented camera like other cameras.
DSLR cameras with the audio controls are designed with film making in mind, thus they have that option.
Most DSLRs (at least, back in the days) was simply a camera to take photos. If you wanted to do film, you'd buy a dedicated film recorder for that. Having video capabilities in a DSLR was a bonus.
Nowadays, it's merging, bang for buck, reaching to a boarder audience, one size fits all, etc, and unfortunately, the a65 wasn't part of that 'nowadays' era.
The a99 and a77ii, if I remember correctly, has audio controls.
A lot of the newer Sony models (mirrorless) also have audio controls, that is, the ones that a targeted towards film making and not just great photos with the bonus of great video.
Also, I would presume that a lot of 'professional' videographers will either use external mics such as on a pole, a lapel mic, etc, to capture perfect audio, or if not, at least a shotgun/boom mic attached to the camera.
When doing such, there technically shouldn't be a lot of problems with the audio quality. Of course, if those external mics are still recorded into the camera, then yeah... but if they're recorded separately and slapped on during post processing... shouldn't be any problems...
If you're relying purely on the a65 and it's AGC, then there definitely will be shortcomings here and there unfortunately.
I recently filmed my niece-in-law's wedding. I didn't have any fancy mic setups (can't afford it at this stage), and this wasn't any sort of 'professional' work, more of just something for the family (free), but the audio came out excellent. Yes, it caught ambient noise (obviously), but I don't hear any cutoffs or badly pitched noises, or anything. The loud music and people cheering on and such all came through very clearly. Sure, it's no 'professional' bitrate or anything, but at 192kbps, it did the job.
Anyways, that was off topic, but all I'm saying is, you can't expect much from a photo taking centred camera which has been slapped on with nice video capabilities unfortunately. Also, due to the a65's age, I don't think Sony's bringing out anymore updates. My advice is either get an a77ii for it's awesome AF, or if full frame is a desire, then the a99 or a mirrorless (up to you). The a99 has a controllable focus range which is something I like, that way, if you're using autofocus (yeah... what 'professional' videographer would use autofocus aye?), you won't lose focus on subjects if something goes in front/behind it.Also, the little wheel at the front really helps in allowing you to make adjustments without disrupting video or causing too much movement in the camera. Right now, I am planning on getting a RX10ii. Though I'd love to get something from the mirrorless range, it's just way out of my budget (even the RX10ii is, so there's a lot of saving to do right now also...). Anyways, good luck with your videos.

  • Pitch control in quicktime

Trying to play midi files (accompaniment tracks for guitar practice) and can't get the pitch control to work in A/V control window. Pitch control is grayed out. What am I missing?

I use Pro Tools for audio recording and editing. The midi files are just shortcuts to practice with. When I was on Windows I had a player that would change pitch (key) easily. I'm new to Quicktime and still learning. Should upgrade to Quicktime Pro at some point probably?

  • Maintain Audio Pitch doesn't work correctly.

    Ok,
After a long series of issues and tech support calls with CS4 I have a new gremlin to deal with. Maintain Audio Pitch, which previously worked great on my XP Pro with premiere Pro 2.0 now just heavily distorts the audio. This problem is on my new Vista Ultimate 64-bit power house of a computer using CS4. What actually happens, is hard to explain this accurately. Imagine talking into a tin can then add a kind of vibrato distortion and then degrade it's over all quality. What once would come out damn near perfect is now heavily unacceptably distorted. The source doesn't seem to matter. It messes up both Microsoft DV AVI audio as well as WAV files. The current issue has to do with me trying to pitch correct a file at 97% speed. That's 97%! In Pro 2.0 I could correct down to around 78% without too much distortion. This just doesn't make any since. All my drivers are updated, yes I uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime (that's what was crashing media encoder a while back) and yes I have the update 4.0.1
If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, please let me know. I'm confused and have no idea how to approach this. I've done multiple searches expecting someone else to have this issue and have thus far (4+ hours in) have come up empty handed.
    Signed,
    William A. McDonald

I'm looking at possibly buying Premiere and this feature is very important to me.  Was this problem ever corrected?

  • Audio Pitch issue

Hi, we have 5 FCP machines and one has developed an issue with audio pitch, everything we import has low pitch audio that is out of sync. We are working with DV PAL from an XSAN. The only fix we can find is to change the sequence to 44.1kHz but the media is actually 48kHz.
    Any ideas?
    FCP v 6.0.4

I am getting the same issue with any audio I import to a project. Did you find a fix? If not, if someone could help us out that would be great.

  • Audio pitch / playback speed issue, MacBook Pro 10.4.10

I experienced a very strange audio pitch and speed issue that affected a recording I was making in Ableton Live 6.0.3.
Setup is MacBook Pro 2.16GHz, Mackie Onyx Satellite FW interface for audio, recording straight to internal HD.
I made two multitrack recordings (3-4 tracks each) which played back fine initially within Live. I then rendered the audio to AIFF in order to burn data and audio CDs.
Testing the playback in iTunes, the audio was strangely pitched lower than what we originally recorded. Checking other tracks from my iTunes library, they were playing back FASTER or higher-pitched than normal, and so did audio streamed from MySpace that I was familiar with.
CDs burnt from these AIFFs exhibited the same "lower pitch" / slower playback.
Reopening the Live Set, they were now also playing back lower pitched than what we had heard just minutes beforehand during the recording / mixing.
After I let the computer sleep for a few hours, I came back and checked -- system and internet audio was now playing back at normal speed, but the Live Set was still lower-pitched - the individual WAV files in the set were all pitched lower.
The Live recording prefs were stock standard - set to record 24 bit WAV at 44.1Khz. Since the issue seemed to affect non-Live audio as well, I'm guessing it was something more at the CoreAudio level?
I managed to salvage the session by taking the exported AIFFs into Tracktion 3 and using the pitch change function in the Clip Properties pane. One track was 1.5x off, the other was 1.125x off.
I'm at a complete loss as to why this would happen. It's a first (and hopefully only) occurrence. Has anyone had this happen to them? Could this be some sort of intermittent hardware (clock) glitch? Something to do with 6.0.3 and OS 10.4.10?
I do need to take this MacBook Pro in for servicing - it experienced the "bulging battery" issue and has a partially dead keyboard (the keys near the upper right) - but even with those issues I've not had audio issues like this.

In any case, if my Mac had problems, I'd send it in for service....!!!
About your problem, I don't think that it depends on hardware.
I'd check Live configuration and the SR of the audio files: you know, Live has so many features to modify speed and a lot of other parameters that bacomes easy to forget something.
Try recording something with Garage Band so you will be sure if there is a real problem.
    cheers

  • IPad 3/iOS7 for audio production control

I use an iPad 3 with up-to-date iOS7 for audio production control. It connects to a wi-fi network that is never connected to the internet.  I go through the process of canceling the “no internet” notice when connecting to the router and tapping ”use without internet” when (IF!) it appears. It usually takes a few attempts reconnecting to the router to get through the process.  Once connected, I do not experience any issues.
The wi-fi connection is dropped if the iPad goes to sleep during the show and I have to go through the whole process again -  losing control of the connected devices – until I manage to reconnect to the router.  Not good.
Is there a workaround?  Are there settings I’m not aware of?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Thanks for the reply.  I do turn sleep/lock off - sometimes I forget and am disconnected   A high percentage of the time I'm on battery roaming the venue mixing.
I'm hoping for some feedback about connecting to a network without internet.  It can take several tries to make it happen.  Hoping there is a setting somewhere that will make it happen more quickly and reliably.

  • The missing audio recording control...

For whatever reason, when I choose Audio->Record to-> Slide, the audio recording control does not show up on the screen anywhere. I am using Captivate 5.

Did you use this laptop with two monitors? Perhaps the dialog box is still on the other monitor, this sounds strange sorry, but it happened to me before. I'm used to have another monitor connected in college and then have some panels on one monitor, if I forget to restore to one monitor sometimes certain boxes seem to have disappeared.

  • Does anyone have a pitch control add-on?

My wife is dance teacher and is using an iPod to play all the music during her lessons. As in dance it is very usfull to dance and specially exercise at a specific beat, it would be perfect if she could change the beat of the songs while playing using a pitch control.
Does anyone know of an add-on to do that in the iPod? (I don't what to use an extra tool, e.g. Neumarkt mixer.)
    Thanks for your help! Kuno
    iPod

Thanks for your replay and your time.
But I'm not looking to change the beat outside the iPod. The goal is to have a song in its original beat on the iPod with the possibility to change the beat while the song is playing (like the volume). For a dance teacher that is very usefull if the students exercise new steps the first time: To start you could use a lower beat and after some repetitions you can switch back to the original beat.
(The work around we are using at the moment, is to change the beat on the computer in tool with pitch control and then load 2 or even more versions of a song to the iPod with different beats.)

    Thanks for your answer.
I know it is no posible with Archos.
some Irivers series can change the playbackspeed...
As far as i know, only the cowon A2 can manage the pitch control but too expensive to me...

  • Disappearing audio source control

    Hello Everyone,
I seem to have lost my audio source controls on my timeline. Any suggestions on how to get it back?
    Thanx,
    John

Once FCP Rescue is downloaded and open (make sure you have the correct version), Select TRASH. This deletes your preference files.
Open FCP now. All the settings are reset to default - including things like scratch disk, custom tool setups etc.
Once you have gone through the set up procedures, BACKUP the settings. When you need to overwrite corrupted preference files after this, use the RESTORE command.
If this doesn't solve your problem, there is likely something else at work here.

  • Logic audio pitch bend

I have an M-audio KeyRig 49 and the pitch bend wheel is not working in Logic Pro.  Is there a setting in Logic that will help it recognize the KeyRig 49 pitch wheel?  I tried Preferences > Control Surfaces > Controller Assignments and "learn" mode but that really messed it up more.
    thanks for any help

I tried Preferences > Control Surfaces > Controller Assignments and "learn" mode but that really messed it up more.
This is the reason for the PB disappearing I guess. When you use the Controller assignment (CA) “learn” or the key-command dialog and learn any external midi message then Logic Physical input blocks that message and bypasses it directly to the Controller Assignments or the key-command assignments.
To fix that you have to find and delete the “learned” string in CA which gets the PB or to (backup and trash) the Logic control surfaces file. Try dragging the Logic Control Surface preference file to your desktop and restarting Logic:
