Audio Pop/Clicks, then completely drops out

This just started happening to me completely throws a wrench in my workflow.
I'm watching lectures using VLC. I pause the video, take some notes, then click play and hear a pop or a click. then no audio. this renders my whole soundcard useless ie no audio output from any application. My current fix is to restart my machine, but considering I have a few other applications open to take notes, it really is a hindrance.
any suggestions? or do i have to take this thing to my local genius bar?

Update: When detaching the audio, this problem goes away.  However, the audio fade-ins from transitions, etc. go away.  Is there any way to solve this problem without detaching?

  • Audio sputters and then completely cuts out during playback

Hello, everyone.  I've been editing in iMovie for years, and have never come across this problem until today.
When playing back a clip that I've inserted into my project, the audio sputters on and off for about 10 seconds, and then cuts out completely.  If I stop playing, and then start again, the audio comes back, but in about 10 seconds, sputters and cuts out once again.  When I play back the original clip that I imported, this does not happen.  It is only when it is actually in my project.  The audio waves shown below the video are all intact as well.
I've already tried restarting the computer and deleting the iMovie preference file to see if that would make a difference, but it has not.  Any ideas as to what this could be, or even better yet, how to fix it?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Audio pops/clicks when changing angles in multicam clips

I am having problems with audio pops/clicks when working with angle switching in multicam clips. it always occurs when i utilize any of the "audio enhancements" features, such as the loudness or background noise removal features. Switching angles results in audible audio pops. The only way to get rid of them is to disable the audio enhancements. This occurs regardless of the audio source. Is this a known bug that is being addressed? I rely heavily on the audio editing features in my work and am hoping this will be resolved in an update soon. Thanks for any help-

Hi Brad, thanks for the reply!
That sounds like a good workaround. What I have been doing in the meantime is create a new compound clip after I finish all of my cuts, and then apply the audio edits to the new contiguous audio clip in the compound clip.
What is really strange and frustrating is that all of my new audio bugginess really began when I could no longer detach audio from my multicam clips in 10.0.9... After doing many searches here, it seems that in this most recent update of FCPX this is no longer a 'feature'... I don't know why they changed this, but in older updates of FCPX you could detach audio from original clips, compound clips, or multicam clips with no problems. I would routinely create and edit all of the angle cuts in my multicam clips in the timeline, and then if I wanted to, be able to detach the audio and do more edits if needed. Thankfully I can still apply edits to compound audio clips, but it would sure be nice if I could just correct/enhance audio without ugly-sounding artifacts in multicam edits. Thanks again-

  • How do I make the internal mic on my macbook air sustain better when recording on garage band? I have been recording an acoustic guitar and listening back, the mic seems to pick it up well naturally for 1 or 2 seconds then dramatically drop out.

I realised that you just need to go to System Preferences > Sound > Input > and uncheck 'Use ambient noise reduction'. mmm answered my own question.

  • Audio visible in timeline but drops out on playback halfway through clip

I've been using Premiere Pro for a few years now and this has never happened to me before.
I am in the middle of putting together some long clips - anywhere from 3 minutes to 20 minutes long - and all of them worked fine except for the one shown here.
At the current edit point the audio drops out on playback. As you can see from the timeline, the audio is there. The rest of the clip prior to this point plays fine. Every other clip in the project plays fine. This particular clip loses its audio after 10:18 despite the fact that audio levels can quite clearly be seen in the timeline.
I am at a total loss. I've tried rendering, closing/reopening, restarting, re-importing ... everything. I hope someone else has a better idea.

Had the same problem and as solution used nero movie maker, where with sound was everything allright, and exported only sound. When exported a WMA format - premiere showed the same bug again, but when exported WAV format - premiere worked normally. It's not a 100% solution, becouse I had a 5.1 sound, that was converted into stereo sound.
Similary did with a videoclip, that could not import in premiere (premiere crashed) - via nero movie maker made ir from .mts to wmv with a little loss of quality.
    Camera: Panasonic TM700
    Software: Premiere CS4
    File type: .MTS
It is a shame to such a expensive software
Update: these days I faced with this strange bug again and I had an idea to test whether this sound loss affects also exported media. I made a 20 seconds experimental clip and noticed, that there with sound is everything allright. So this sound loss is only in editing process and does not affect exported material.

  • When i go to update the flash player, i click after save to install flash player download, the box that pops up is completely blacked out?

please help, i cant update the flash player.

    Hi Rosa,
Please try the offline installer posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows page, in the 'Still having problems' section.  There will be three (3) installers.  Since you're on Windows 8.x, ignore the installer for ActiveX Control, as Microsoft embeds Flash Player in Internet Explorer on Windows 8.x systems.  You'll want to download the 'Flash Player for Firefox - NPAPI' installer file.  If you also use Opera browser you'll want to download the 'Flash Player for Opera - PPAPI' installer file.

  • Audio pops/clicks and optimum setup

I've recently begun to use CC to create small video's which will be posted either to YouTube or FB.  These are NOT for commercial purposes.  I also incorporate audio music into the videos.  I use ProTools to create high quality WAV files which I then import into my video project as audio.  I'm finding that there are clicks and pops when playing back in CC.  This is "before" any rendering.  And, of course, it also appears post rendering as well.  I wanted to know if anyone could recommend the optimum setup, editing and rendering.  My most recent project which incorporate some imagery uses 25" w x 15" tall at 240dpi using TIFF's.  Since YT and FB compress, I'm using 1280x720 when I render.  Any optimum setup recommendation?

And what audio files? This sounds like you are simply hoplessly overdoing it and use excessive sample and/or bit depth rates that PS is less than able to deal with properly... And DPI and realworld units are irrelevant for video. Only absolute pixels matter.

  • Audio pops/clicks when using external speakers

Here's the problem -- When my Mac plays a sound and it had not played any sounds for a while, it always pops (or clicks, same thing, just a matter of magnitude). There is no pop if there was sound recently, like in the last 3 minutes or so.
My iMac is an aluminum 20" model purchased in May 2008. I have external speakers playing audio. I don't think the pop happens when it's just the internal speakers.
Is there an audio driver update? The Software Update menu doesn't find anything newer to install for me. The pop is very irritating and I consider this Mac to be broken with respect to audio output.

Finally, a workaround. From another thread I learned that this is an old issue. The Mac shuts off the audio output electronics after some period of inactivity. When it reactivates, an audible pop happens. It's an old issue that Apple for some stupid reason doesn't care to solve. For a company that espouses fluid, integrated user experience, it is incredible that Apple could allow such a glaring audio defect to persist through so many generations of products. Surely they must realize many users will be connecting external amplified speaker systems to the analog audio out port. Doesn't anyone at Apple test the computers against the variety of input loads the audio output circuitry will be interfaced to? I understand that Apple has no control over the variety input impedances and DC biases their audio output electronics will see. But I think the popping could be avoided if they just employed a simpler scheme where the audio electronics do shut off. They are too smart for their own good.
That said, the hack that is so far working for me is this freeware utility KeepSoundAwake that plays an inaudible sound periodically. I would much rather see a solution in the firmware.

  • Audio Interface Recognized, then Immediately Dropping

Hello all. This is my first post on here and I'm hoping I could get some solid advice.
I'm using Logic Pro 8 for live recording and my computer meets all required specifications. We use a TASCAM-1641 USB audio interface for our recording.
Sometimes Logic recognizes my interface and we get through an entire night of recording. However, a majority of the time the software recognizes the interface when I power it up. I the select the interface in Core Audio, and then about 20 seconds later I get a message stating: Logic can no longer detect the US-1641. Switching to default setting.
No matter if I reboot the computer, restart the program, create new song, etc., the problem does not resolve.
Does anyone know what could case this "drop" of the interface? After this happens, my friend switches in his computer with GarageBand and it's good to go, so it's definitely not the USB cable or the interface. It has to be some audio setting on my laptop or soething with Logic.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a feeling that the ports on your laptop may not be USB 2, just regular USB. That appears to be the case with my 2007 MacBook Pro. If you look at System Profiler, the only high speed USB port is the one used internally by the built-in webcam.
I don't know which Mac laptop you have; if it's a regular MacBook then you're SOL, but if it has a PC or Expresscard slot then you could use something like this:
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fwusbexpresscard34.html
(Sonnet tends to be expensive - you'd want to shop around.)
If my theory is correct AND if you have a MacBook with no card slot, your only option is to put your interface on ebay and buy a FireWire one. But I don't know that my theory is correct - it's just an educated guess.

  • The audio in my movie clips drops out sporadically, How can I fix this?

I have a collaboration of video clips from a baseball game that I put together in iMovie 09. I added a background song to play over the clips, I have the (video) volume turned down for some of my videos so that you can hear the background music, but when I try to turn the (video) volume up to hear the cheering at the game over the music, there is no sound at all! If I pause the playback and resume it, I will hear the cheering in the video like I want.
Pausing then resuming to get my sounds to work correctly is tangible, but the real problem is that it cuts out when I am exporting to iTunes or YouTube as well.
    Please Help! Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Some times simply quitting any and all sound Apps (iTunes, QuickTime, any audio player) restarting often solves the problem.  An SMC reset might also work.
If the laptop went to sleep with headphones or external speakers plugged into the headphone jack loss of audio on wake can result. In future do not sleep with headphones or speakers attached.

  • Videora movies play fine then sound drops out, help!!!

i have a black 60g 5g ipod that i used dvd decrypter to rip my personal dvd with and then converted to ipod format with videora. the movies play fine for a while then the sound will stop and the movie keeps playing. if i go back to the menu and start again the sound will resume in the spot it stopped for a while and then stop again. can anybody help? i'm using the mpg4 format in videora. please help im lost- chris
    sony vaio laptop   Windows XP

When you are using DVD Decrypt, are you taking the 6 channel sound (or best quality channel just below video), as some of the other sound tracks are Directors Cut etc.
If this fails, try running DVD Decrypter again, and check your buffer is not running out at the bottom of the screen. Try testing the VOB which is created by DVD Decrypter in your Windows DVD player, and see if it ok prior to being converted by Videora. Your DVD player should have an option to play a video file from the disk, I am not familier with the Vaio, but this works with InterVideo WinDVD which came with my ThinkPad.

  • EMU 0202 USB ASIO more and more crackle until complete drop out after approx. 5 mins

    Hi!
The subject already pretty much wraps up my issue. I have an EMU USB 0202 which I am using in ASIO mode. Indepedently of the software that is used to playback something (e.g. Fruity Loops, Ableton Live, or Virtual DJ), I get crackles in the sound after approx 5 minutes (give or take a minute). If I leave things running like this, the sound quality degrades more and more for approx another minute, up to complete silence.
Interesting fact: This can be fixed, by simply having the software "close/release" the device. E.g. by switching to Direct Sound and back to ASIO. Pretty much everyting, that causes the software to reinitialize the ASIO driver, will fix this - for the next 5 minutes.
I have probably already tried whatever piece of advice I could find. I have checked my system settings, incl. the stuff that one of the moderators listed here in the board (http://forums.creative.com/t5/Profes...USB-and-0202-U...).
I have used the DPL Latency checker tool. I don't see any sparks here. The only thing I noticed is, that as sound degrades, the latency slowly rises. But we are talking of "peaks" of 500µs when the sound starts to degrade.
I also used this PCI Latency Checker tool, but everything is set to either 0 or 64 - from what I've read, PCI latency could only be a problem if I were to see values like e.g. 128 or even max of 255.
I don't see any load peaks on the system either - neither disk activity or anything. Though the DAWs and the VSTs can cause some pretty heavy system load, the system is pretty much idle when playing songs back with VirtualDJ. And still as said before, after a few minutes things go from good, to bad, to worse, to silence. Searching though the net, it seems like everybody else is having some kind of general USB audio problem, where they have instant/permant crackling. I have not yet found anybody else with such a gradual decrease. The only person so far which also reports a similar issue is this:
    http://forums.creative.com/t5/Profes...;jsessionid=6A...
But seems like he also did only get the standard "try this" - text block answer. As I said, I already tried all these.
So, what else can I do? This is really frustrating....
    Any suggestions?
EDIT: It's too obvious (too me at least) that I forgot to mention: This happens independently of the buffer settings. I can go with 6ms or 50ms... problem is still the same. Also the "timing" of the problem is not affected by this.

Places you need to look are are your IDE bus and PCI bus.
Verify that the chipset drivers are up to date.
Also verify that your USB host is not sharing with any devices like WIFI or SATA controllers.
Have you sent a support ticket to E-MU support? You may want to for an issue like this.

  • Complete Drop Out when online gaming

Recently I have managed to convince my landlord of weekday digs (I work away all week) to sign up for infinity, after having this installed to great effect at my own home residence some months back.
I play an online racing game which uses ports 6654 & 6655 which are configured through the router to allow gaming to be played online with others.
Latency or lag has always been an issue for some users of this game with poor connections, (me included) but when we switched from cable Virgin to Infinity here, i hoped my latency issues would be resolved. Not so, its even worse. Worse to the point where I DC from the game completely, or suffer horrendous latency.
I do run wireless, and the situation is better when hard wired through LAN, but when at home I never experience problems of this magnitude.
I am only 10ft away from router & modem when wireless, with no other users connected when i get the problem.
I have run a Tracert Ping check, and the final 'hops' are above 110...not a good sign.
Upload and download speeds are great and as they should be for this service.
I can not see a DSL filter fitter, but assume its pre-fitted in the juntion box?
Any ideas on this would be most appreciated as its runing my gaming experience, of which I moderate but can not even play!

What are the first couple of tracert hops?  They should give an idea of latency due to ping (first hop high; should be <1ms on a wired connection) and latency due to interleaving (second hop significantly higher than first hop, should be around 6ms without interleaving, mine is aroung 15ms with interleaving).
If the remaining hops are high, that is BT routing.  I have silly Winchester-London routing via Sheffield that adds and extra 9/10ms with the hop norht and the hop south.
Even with interleaving and routing I still get 29ms typical to BBC.  Your talk of 100 sounds horrendous.

  • HT204291 Streaming ok via AirPlay to Apple TV for about 10 mins then airplay drops out

    Any help would be appreciated

Fix the Wi-Fi issue.. either move the ATV and router closer to one another, remove other devices causing interference, or connect the ATV via an Ethernet cable.

  • Audio dropped out when burned on DVD - PRE.

I have finished my movie on PRE 8 and burned it on a DVD in high quality. The problem is the background music works, but the audio from the videos is dropped out. When I play it on PRE 8, the audio works perfectly. The video and audio comes from a JVC Everio HDD. Everything works fine until I burn it.
I did not use Instant Movie or Audio Mixer because I did it manually.
Is there anything I need to do before I burn the DVD, or do I need special settings?
Another problem I have is that Organizer turns off and does not work.

    Patrick,
You gave me an idea for two tests. They are simple and fairly quick and will not require any real editing in PrE, or another NLE.
    Test 1:
From Export/Share, Export your movie. I think you are doing SD/DVD work, so choose DV-AVI. Export just the Video (checkbox for Video and Audio, and you want Video only). This will give you a silent Video-only file. Now, Export>Audio (choose PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit) to get an Audio-only file. Test this Audio-only file. Did you get both the AV's Audio and your Soundtrack? You should. Then, create a new Project to the right specs., and Import those two files. Note, your exact placement of the Audio-only file might not be on Audio Track 1, and just let it go to Audio Track 2. I'd not use Narration, or Soundtrack. Test. Burn to a DVD RW disc, so you do not create a coaster, and test again.
    Test 2:
Do a Save_As, name and locate it. Delete your music from the Soundtrack. Export/Share the movie with both Audio & Video. Test. If things are working now, without the Soundtrack, I'd bring in your music, but try placing it on Audio Track 2. Test. Note: an alternative to this would be to do two Save_As Projects. In one, remove the AV's Audio completely, and then Share/Export just your Soundtrack as an Audio-only file. Choose the same PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit. Then Import that into the first Save_As, the one with no music. Again, try placing this file on Audio Track 2. Test.
I worry that maybe one, or both of the fixed Audio Tracks, Narration, and/or Soundtrack, is getting in the way. The above tests will be quick and should get you the results that you need, with what you have. The tests will also tell us if something is wrong with the Soundtrack Track, as it seems to be killing the AV's Audio on Audio Track 1.
    Good luck, and please report,
    Hunt
