Audio Problems in Synced/Compound Clips

Hey guys, so I'm working on a project and I used the audio sync feature for our footage and seperate audio. The sync worked fine, and I went through the clips and created compund clips of little segments to act as sub-clips. Now, I'll drag the compund clips into the timeline and detach the audio to make a few edits. Now, usually when I select the audio, I am able to change it from stereo to dual mono in order so that I can hear it through both speakers in my headphones. however, the option ia grayed out on on this new selection. I'm able to see the audio associated with the original media clip, as well as the external audio, but the only option available is 'stereo'. I'm assuming there's a way to change it, but I just can't seem to get anything to work.

This is what I'm trying to avoid doing - I'm working on a 7 minute girl's volleyball video (ages 7 - 9).  After completing the month-and-half project and watching my results full screen - all was good - once converted to dvd - ghost audio appeared - I understand that it's a chronic problem.
My projected included 68 video clips ranging in duration of .8 seconds to 12 seconds.  I also had lots of pictures inserted in the mix 'popping' in and out with durations of .3 seconds to 10 seconds.  I went to my project last night and duplicated it into another project so I could keep one in tact and proceeded to try to change the settings of all the clips to the default adjustments - this created a nightmare.
I was originally using the speed control to line up the serves, volleys and digs (volleyball terms) with the soundtrack.  So, out of all my video clips, the majority of the clips are slowed or sped up to adjust to the audio/visual appearance.  It takes a fraction of a second for a volleyball to meet a girl's hand AND when the team was lucky enough to make 3 hits in a row - the speed control came in handy so I could adjust the speed of the video clip to match the beat of the soundtrack.
With all this said, I'm trying to come up with a work around solution so that I won't have to go to 60+ clips and change to the default speeds.  If I have to do this, I will need to start the whole project again to adapt to the intricate timing needed for appearance.

  • Audio level different in compound clip

Experiening an odd audio behaviour. I have created a compound clip and them dropped in interview into it. After that I place a compressor on the interview audio and set it to agerage at -20db. Once I them place the conpound clip onto a project the audio level in the peoject drops by -5db. I need to bump the project audio up +5db to get it back the agerage -20db it is in the compound clip. I have tried this on 2 systems with the same exact results.
Is this the way it is supposed to behave? And if so why? Seems to me the audio level should stay consistant from the compound clip to the project.

That's odd. When you change the compound should update. Bring the compound clip into the project. Double click the clip to open its component clips. Make any change that's easily reversed – say, disable a clip (V). Close the project. Create a new empty project. Bring the compound to the new project. The disabled clip should not be visible.

  • Compound Clip Match Bug

This is a huge problem with Compund Clips in FCPX.
If there are 2 clips from 2 different levels, as in one from the main timeline and the other being a connected clip and if the connnected clip starts before the main clip in the timeline, and if you compound them, do all the editing, and break them apart, the connected clip is now shifted to where the compound clip actually starts.
Here is an example I found on youtube : http://youtu.be/raCZ_g2puao

The problem actually occurs the moment you make a compound clip, not when you break it apart.
If I understood correctly, you are trying to make a compound from selected clips like this:
This is a problem because the compound clip to be built will have to sit in the primary storyline. The first part (where the title is above the previous, non-compounded clip) will come up with the title over a black background, and all the compound  clip will be shifted right. The way to do this properly is to first lift the whole thing from the primary storyline. Select the clip which is in the primary and Cmd-Opt-Up Arrow to lift it:
Now the two clips that will become the compound clip are both connected to a gap clip in the primary storyline.
You can create the compound and all is (almost) well:
I say almost because the connection point ended up on the previous clip, not the gap. Depending on what you want to do, this may or may not matter. But you can easily change the connection point: Cmd-Option-click to set a new connection.

  • Syncing audio in Final Cut Pro X doesn't create a compound clip

I just had a quick question that hopefully someone can help me with. I was shooting some video with my Canon t3i the other day, and I record audio into a Zoom H1. I imported all of my audio and video into Final Cut Pro X and I wanted to syncronize the clips, so I chose the video and the correct audio to go with it, and I right clicked them, and chose syncronize clips.
Now, my question. On every example I've seen of this, syncronizing two clips creates a compound clip which would be great, but when I choose syncronize clip, it just creates a new clip of the video with both audio files apart of the video. It's not a compound clip at all, it's just a video file with two audio channels, one with the cameras audio, the other with the Zoom H1 audio. When I go to shut off the cameras audio channel and just leave the Zoom H1 audio, my video starts to skip and just goes black, yet the audio plays fine...
I guess I'm just looking for help, is there something wrong that I am doing when I am trying to sync these clips? Are there certain file settings that I should have? My video is recorded in 1080p with 24fps, the audio is recorded in WAV format. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

After opening in TL and expanding sudio components.

down Cut menu - Slow playback/Raspid Playback/Re-play in Slow Motion and onvards
Here one can select the Pre-Set speeds
Are you familiar with getting 'inspector' to run?
No - but I guess that Double Click on clip/sequense or ctrl-Click on it might open it.

  • Compound Clip, Audio roles, and X2Pro Audio Convert

    Hi Everybody,
    Here is the problem :
    - In my project, all media have specific roles, especially audio (Interview, Interview_Ambiance, Sfx, Music etc...).
    - Interview and Interview_Ambiance are in compound clips. These Compound clips have the default Video/Audio roles: "Video/Dialogue".
    - When using X2Pro for exporting the AAF (audio channels) from the project, the only roles available for exporting (from the X2Pro soft) are dialogue and music.
I'm wondering if anybody else had the same issue and if it is from X2Pro or FCPX.
    Thanks!
    Emmanuel.

TImecode shouldn't matter. FCP doesn't use it. Have you tried the sync function?
you can also select the video and use open in timeline, then add the audio into it to sync it.
    COmpound clips shouldn't be involved.
WHat are the  audio sample rates?

  • Compound clip audio issue

I record table-top games, and capture audio from an external microphone. I then sync them up into a compound clip with the camera audio muted and the good audio turned up. The problem is, whenever I go to cut up the clip (delete unnecessary bits), there is a very noticeable audio jump between cuts. Like the audio shuts off and on very quickly, even when I just make a splice and don't delete anything. I've cut up different clips using the same equipment numerous times and it has always been seamless, so I am guess that this is an issue with using compound clips. Does any one have a solution? driving me crazy.

  • All additional audio tracks in synchronized or compound clips are merged into the mono-mix.

    Hi all.
I have a video with a stereo track and six separate audio tracks from set. I synced them. If you open the synchronized clip in a separate timeline, all audio tracks are on place and have their names. But if I append it to the storyline and expand audio components, there are only two audio tracks: monomix from the original video with its name and one stereo track named "a1", which is a mix of all additional audio tracks. The same thing happens if I make a compound clip, with a small difference. It forced me to give up the work I wanted to do.

Multicam works, but it is not very convenient. I can not use Sync-N-Link as I had planned, I get problems with export AAF and DaVinci do not like multicam in XML.
Channel configuration mirrors two tracks in the storyline, as you can see in the screenshots.

  • Compound Clip Problem in Final Cut Pro X

I've posted most of the details within the video, explaining the issue. Basically, I'm using a green screen and transitioning pictures behind me on screen. I'm also singing in the video, so I need my lips to match up to the audio in the background. Before I create the compound clip (to fix the black background issue), the timing is perfect. But once I create the compound clip, the timing is off and I can't seem to extend the trasition or figure out a way to get my lips back in sync.
The exact issue is shown in the video below

  • Serious CS5+6 Audio out of sync on MP4 and Quicktime HD (AC3/AAC) export problem

    Hello,
while exporting our video files and importing them into our projects to check the sync we noticed that if we export in MP4 1080p H264 format the audio is 1/2 video frame out of sync compared to the original. This happens with both original audio files attached to the original clip as well as other random audio files combined with the clip.
If we export the WAV file and import it again into the original timeline this is 100% in sync, but if we export that clip with the imported WAV file it's again out of sync.
    please check the pic:
as you can see the "edit_1080p_1.mp4" files is the exported and re-imported clip, which is 100% synced to the video (from timecode 0:00:00:00) and the our of sync is about half a video frame.
This also seems to happen in CS5 as we just have tested on another old system.
Addon: It also happens with Quicktime HD Export.
If exported in AVI there is no out-of-sync, so this problem seems only to be on Dolby Digital and AAC encoded and multiplexed files.
As we found out if exporting clips with any CS5 or CS6 Version in mutiplexed AC3 format eveytime after re-importing those files back into Premiere the audio is about 1/2 videoframe delayed! So this means if you work with multiple temporary exported files, e.g. MP4 HD HQ formats your audio gets more and more out of sync.
But we also found out that if you simply convert WAV to AC3 there is also a slight delay on the AC3 file, although not noticeable on the first view, but if you switch to audio frames view it's about 1/10 frame.
I think this is a very serious error and needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
    Nachricht geändert durch pinklemos

    And another, even worse, update:
we did several tests with just converting the H264/PCM multiplexed file to different format, MPEG2/MP2, MPEG2/AC3, MP4/AAC (both CS6 and CS5) and we just encoded the file with Procoder in H264/AAC (orange colored). And the result was, that ALL Adobe encoded files are not correctly synced to the original but the Procoder file is! Even with CS5 this was already not working.
I am shocked, that nobody really seems to have noticed that elemental error until now...
So the only working workflow at the moment is to export all files into Quicktime H264/PCM format and then user other encoders to create the final files needed, if they need to have compressed audio formats like MP2, ACC or AC3.

  • How to sync audio for an already edited clip?

So while editing a particular interview, I first cut the original clip without the sound file, just the radio cut, taking out the ums, pauses, etc. But I totally forgot to sync my audio file with it first. Now, I'm trying to sync the audio to the interview, but when I syncronize the clips, it doesn't line up correctly, because it is the raw audio clip (with all the ums, pauses, etc.), and doesn't conform to the new radio cut of the interview. Is there anyway for FCPX to take the original audio clip, and conform it to an already edited clip? Moreover, is there a way to automatically chop up the original sound clip to conform to the new video clip?

You could try making the edited clip into a compound clip and synching that with the audio clip. Other than that ...

  • Weird audio out of sync problem after export

This is the second time I've run into this problem. My video and audio are in sync in my timeline, but upon export to QT, one of the clips (but ONLY one of the clips) is out of sync. I tried exporting two different times: same result.
Doesn't make sense to me. All the clips were imported from the same DV tape from my Canon HV30.
Can anyone give me some advice here?? Thanks.

How are you exporting? The first quicktime export option or quicktime conversion? What are your settings for the export?
Did you capture with device control with abort capture on dropped frames and create new clip on timecode break enabled?

  • Problems with syncing audio to video using merge tool

I ran into a new problem that I have not had.
The project was shot on 35mm and transfered to 1080p 23.97 10bit uncompressed. I took the file in to FCP and through media manager maid a copy of it to ProRes 422 HQ 1080p.
The Problem is when I broke the clips up for each scene and take (like I usually do) and set my IN on the clapper and my IN on the audio file for that take at the sound of the clap and go to merge clips on IN points. The clip merges but not at the points I told it to. The audio gets shifted down or up by a good few seconds.
    Why is this happening?
When I take the footage with the same IN mark and put it on the time line and the Audio with he same IN mark and put it on the time line it matches up. But not when I merge clips. I cant think what Im doing wrong if anything since this is the first time I have had this issue.
    Thanks to all!

I don't think FCE has a multi-cam function like FCP does ... so here's another way to do it (if it does have a multi-cam function, disregard this).
    • Place the clip you'll likely to use most on track V1 (along with the audio on A1, A2).
    • Place the other clip on V2 (audio on A3, A4).
    • Double click one of the clips to load it into the Viewer window.
    • Play the clip until you find a good sync point (either visually or audibly).
    • Place a marker at that point.
    • Double-click the other clip to load it into the Viewer and find the same point on that clip.
    • Place a marker at that point.
    • In the Timeline, line up the two clip markers - it will help to zoom in to make sure they're perfectly lined up.
    • Once you have the two clips in sync, double-click the upper clip to load it back into the Viewer.
    • Click on the Motion tab and use the Scale and Center controls to get a picture-in-picture effect.
    • Back in the Timeline, unlink the audio and video from both clips.
    • You can delete the audio clip that you don't want to use.
    • In the Timeline, as you're going through the footage, cut out the parts of the clip on V2 that you don't want using the Blade tool.
    • When you're done, select all clips remaining on V2, right-click on one and select "Remove Attributes" then choose Basic Motion (all clips will go back to full size and centered).
    • If you want to consolidate all of V2's clips with the clip on V1, select all of V2's clips, then holding down the Shift key, drag the clips down to V1.
    • At this point, you can use the Roll tool to tweak your edit points if needed.
    • Add transitions as desired.
This will only work if both clips are continuous (camera did NOT start and stop during the take).

  • Automatically sync two clips with identical audio?

I have two cameras running, so when I import the two clips, I want to synchronise them based on the audio content. Currently I am clapping at the start of the clip and manually synching them, but I wonder if there is an effective way to do this automatically?
I thought that : Clip>Synchronise clips would do this (mentioned in another thread), but it just creates a compound clip based on the start of each clip, not synching them in time.
    Thanks.

    Tom Wolsky wrote:
Sync clips is for syncing separate audio and video. It doesn't do multiple video clips. You need to use the create multicam clip function in 10.0.3.
Well, I seem to have it working now (almost). And it does seem to work with two video clipsI don't know why it didn't work the first time either.
    Tom Wolsky wrote:
Yes, that's what sync clips should do if there is readable both on both the video clip and the audio clip. Don't know why it's not working
I say "almost", because the clips appear to be slightly out of sync in that the audio is about 44 subframes out.
Is this normal I wonder? Is it because the audio on one of the cameras was slightly out and FCP is synching the video not the audio?
It's rare that I would have both audio tracks at once, but it is possible that they may crossfade, in which case the slight delay is annoying and it would be nice if I could get it to synch more accurately.
So I am still having to manually line up the audio, which seems to mean I need to detach the audio, as otherwise it won't nudge by subframes.
