Auto Setup a four channel oscilloscope using two NI 5112 boards

I have two NI 5112 boards and want to design a four channel oscilloscope supporting auto setup.
I refer to the "niScope EX Getting Started.vi". I have studied the "niScope Initialize" and "niScope Auto Setup" in the "NI SCOPE VI Reference Help".
The "niScope Auto Setup" generates no trigger output. Would it still be possible to auto setup a four channel synchronized display using two NI 5112 boards?
How can I using property nodes or by other means find out:
1. If there is a signal present on ch0 and what vertical range "niScope Auto Setup" has setup?
2. If there is a signal present on ch1 and what vertical range "niScope Auto Setup" has setup?
3. If there is no signal on a certain channel?
I
intend to use and modify the niScope EX 5112 Synchronization.vi

There are no NI-SCOPE functions to automatically do an autosetup on two synchronized 5112s. However, you can use niScope Auto Setup.vi on each of the 5112s individually, then reset the slave trigger parameters back to digital with the proper source. The other synch parameters (clock out/in, synch pulse, trigger out) should not be effected by the auto setup.
If the autosetup routine cannot find a signal on either channel, it will return a warning. If autosetup cannot detect a signal on a particular channel, it will set the lowest possible vertical range. To find out if there is a signal on a particular channel, take a short data set and look at it. NI-SCOPE does not provide a way to get this information any other way. If you know your signals wi
ll always produce a range greater than the smallest range of the 5112, you can use the vertical range as the way of telling that no signal was detected.
You can query almost any current parameter from the driver using property nodes. The vertical range is channel specific, so first set the Active Channel, then query for Vertical->Vertical Range. A word of warning when querying parameters. NI-SCOPE is IVI compliant, so the values you get from querying the property nodes are based on the IVI specification, not the NI-SCOPE LabVIEW API. Sources will always be strings and some properties have the same format, but different mappings. For example, the trigger slope in the LabVIEW API is mapped 0-positive, 1-negative. If queried from the property node, 0 is negative and 1 is positive due to the IVI spec. There are not many of these. You can easily find them by looking in the block diagram of the set VIs for look-up tables (array constants).

  • Using two PCI 6221 boards on a target PC

    Hi all,
I'm currently working on a project which requires real time control, and I was wondering if I can install two PCI 6221 boards on a target PC.
I've tried using one PCI 6221, which works fine, but what if I add another one?
Also, would I need better CPU for that?
    Thank you for your help.

They are both development environments, so the answer is the same for CVI.
This is more of a hardware question and would be appropriate in the Real Time forums board.

  • Cannot combine AI channels into a four-channel from two myDAQs

    Hello,
I used MAX explorer to add two analog input(AI) channels of myDAQ into a task. It works fine for this.
For now I need a four-channel's analog input application, so I get two myDAQs for that. I add both of two AI channels of the two myDAQs into a task but always get the message:
An exception occurred within the external code call by a Call ... VI "BlockState.vi:2" was stopped at node "" at a call to "DAQmxAssistant_DAQmx Control Task.vi:1"
    Showed as below:
The pic below shows two myDAQ are used simultaneously for a four-channel AI application.
Could you please help or give some hint? The situation is quite easy to reproduced. Just get two myDAQs and add both of its two AI channels of each myDAQ to combine four channels into MAX explorer's task.
    Thank you!

    Solved!

    Hello cpan,
Thanks the new version of DAQmx driver. It responses more reasonable as the picture shown below.
It probably means that a task can only contain the channels of one myDAQ;  channels in different myDAQs are not allowed to combine into one task!
I guess this is a limitation for student version of myDAQ, though i hope NI can get rid of this restriction.
For myDAQ, could you confirm the limit as I described above?
    Thanks for the help anyway.

  • Using two or four different antennas on a 1242AG

Hello I have a little doubt, I need to cover two diferentes areas with AG, is possible to use only one 1242 with:
    1-A: AIR-ANT5160V-R (Patch)
    2-A: AIR-ANT5160V-R (Patch)
    3-G: AIR-ANT2410Y-R (YAGI)
    4-G: AIR-ANT2410Y-R (YAGI)
    Or

    2-A: AIR-ANT5195P-R (Omnidireccional)
    3-G: AIR-ANT5160V-R (Omnidireccional)
    4-G: AIR-ANT2410Y-R (YAGI)
    Thanks in advanced.

I'm just curious as to exactly why it would not be a good idea to use two different types of antennas with diversity enabled on the same radio (1242). I thought the client made a decision on which antenna to connect to by RSSI. If that was the case, the client would see the signal and be able to communicate with both antennas ( assuming you mounted them correctly) and the client would not get disconnected. Is there a limitation on the AP for how it trades the clients off from primary and secondary antennas? I can understand if you went with an extreme like a yagi and an omni, but what about the attached image? I don't practice using different antennas, primarily because I know two of the same antennas on one radio will definitely work fine, but I don't see an obvious reason why it wouldn't work with some antenna combinations. Has anyone actually tried this to see if it causes problems? Does the client have to connect to both antennas at the same time for diversity to work? If that was the case then I can see how a directional antenna would cause a problem with an omni. Just curious...

  • Network security - using two wireless WRT54G Routers

I have lots of  ports on my router open for numerous family software applications that are all on one computer and I would like to isolate these risky activities from the rest of my network.
I recently read I could use two routers, plug one router into another,  assign each a different starting IP address (such as 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1). Then attach my at-risk PCs--to the router that's directly connected to my broadband modem, and all  other computers to the second router.
Internet traffic to and from the unsafe PC area would then not reach my secure subnetwork at all.
I currently use a WRT54G V5...does buying a second one and using it as described make sense? It sounds like a rather inexpensive way to add security to my network.
I assume the second router gets connected from it's internet jack to one of the port jacks on the first router? Is there anything else that would need to be changed or set in either router to make this work?
Can I please ask if u respond to try and keep your response at a level that a non expert could understand.....I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks for everyones advice!

Thanks for the quick response....it is disappointing to see that I would lose the ability to share files......I  assume this is also true for printers as well??? Do you have another solution that you think would do a better job?
Anyway I did get a rather detailed response on how to make it work and it's in a fashion that even I could understand.
I thought I would share it in case anyone else had a interest to isolate a computer.
    Thanks
With regards to your concern, the setup that you suggested does address your concern. With this setup, we are somehow creating two networks on your location. In this manner, the computer that needs the set of ports will not be part of the network of the second router thus, it will not be able to affect the other computers.
With this type of setup, we will just have to leave the current settings of the WRT54G v5 (as long as its working properly this time). All we have to configure is the second router wherein we will have to change its LAN IP Address and also, configure its wireless settings in order for the said router to provide wired and wireless connection to all computers connecting to it. Please allow me to give you the steps.
Once we have the second router available, please connect one of the computers straight to the second router using one of the four ports (Ethernet port). With the configuration, only the second router and the computer will be connected with each other.
Before setting up the second router, I suggest that we do a hard reset on the router to make sure that it is on default settings and that we have a stable connection during the setup.
Here’s how to do a reset:
    1. Locate the reset button of the router at the back panel.
    2. Hold the reset button for 30 seconds using a pen or a paper clip.
    3. Release the reset button.
    Configuring the Second Router:
    1. Go to your desktop and double click on Internet Explorer (Located on the Start Menu in Windows XP).
    2. When "Internet Explorer" opens type 192.168.1.1 into the "Address" bar and click on Go.
    3. The "Enter Network Password" window will appear.
    4. Skip user name and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK.
    5. Go to Wireless Tab.
    6. Change SSID (e.g. Vic or your name or last name).
    7. Change channel to 11.
    8. Hit save Settings.
    9. Click on the sub tab Wireless Security.
    10. Set the Security Mode to WEP.
Using pass phrase Encryption Level 40/64bit (10 hex digits):
    1. Type a pass phrase.
    2. Click Generate.
    3. Copy key1 on a piece of paper (10hex character).
    4. Hit Save Settings.
For using manual key entry Encryption Level 40/64bit (10 hex digits)
    1. Under Key 1 type a 10 digit character from A-F and 0-9 (e.g.: A0B3F58C9E, 0123456789, ABCDEFABCD).
    2. Hit Save Settings.
    3. Click on the Setup Tab.
    4. Change the Local IP Address to "192.168.2.1".
    5. Click “Save Settings”.
    Finishing the Connection:
    1. Shut down all computers.
    2. Unplug the power from the back of both routers.
    3. Unplug the power from the modem.
    4. Wait for 30 second.
    5. Connect the WRT54G v5 router (using its Internet Port) to the Cable Modem.
    6. Connect the WRT54G v5 (using one of the four Ethernet ports) to the second router (using its Internet/WAN port).
    7. Power up the modem.
    8. Wait for the lights to stop blinking.
    9. Power up the routers.
    10. Start up your computer.

  • Which is the best wi-fi channel to use if I'm getting interference

According to my network settings, the current wi-fi channel is 802.11g. In the past I have had no trouble with wi-fi transmissions in the house but recently I have been having trouble with the wi-fi connection between my computer and my Apple TV. The picture and sound on my computer screen is sometimes 'delayed' on the TV and/or the TV screen becomes grossly pixelated and then often just freezes. I have searched the internet for possible reasons for this and wonder whether my problems are related to my neighbour just having had a baby (apparently baby monitors can be a cause of wi-fi interference). If a device such as a baby monitor is causing my recent and ongoing wi-fi problems, what can I do to fix this? I have read somewhere that changing the wi-fi channel to 802.11n might improve things (5GHz?) but I am not game to manually re-set my Airport Express just on the offchance that things might improve because I am worried that I might do something wrong and completely muck up my wireless set-up. Has anyone similar problems and can anyone give me some advice as to what I should do?

According to my network settings, the current wi-fi channel is 802.11g.
Wi-Fi operates on two different radio bands: 2.4 & 5 GHz. Around these two bands are several radio modes: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, & the latest, 802.11ac. These modes operate on one band or the other with the exception of 801.11n which can operate on either. Finally, each band has a set number of frequencies (radio channels) that can be used. Which channels are dependent on where you live. In the US, the 2.4 GHz band uses channels 1-11. For the 5 GHz band, there are two segments of channels and your AirPort Express can access four channels in each of these segments: 36, 40, 44, 48, & 149, 153, 157, 161
With that said, currently the 5 GHz band is less "crowded" than the 2.4 GHz band ... and thus, less chance of issues with Wi-Fi interference. If your current radio mode is set to 802.11g then it is operating on the 2.4 GHz band. Changing to 802.11n may help as it, again, can operate on either. The important thing to take from this is that the higher frequency band has more difficulty traveling over longer distance and through objects like walls ... so you are pretty much limited to either a single room or to the immediatly adjacent rooms when using this band.
There are a number of things to try:
Determine if there is other forms of Wi-Fi interference in the area. If they are caused by other Wi-Fi operating nearby you will want to change the radio mode's channel to be at least 3-5 channels away from the other Wi-Fi that has the strongest signal. To determine if other Wi-Fis are nearby you can use utilities like iStumbler, or AirRadar to find them, and then, radio channel on your network to reduce the interference. If switching channels resolves the problem you don't need to go on to the next option.
Switch the radio mode from 802.11g to 802.11n. Which exact radio mode you will want to use will depend on two things: 1) Will you still need to support non-802.11n wireless clients, and 2) Which exact model of the AirPort Express that you have. If you can provide both of these, I can offer a recommendation on what radio mode to try.

  • Four channel mix for P2 format?

I'm in the final stages of editing an EPK for an upcoming indie film, but I'm having some problems getting the audio output the way it's supposed to be delivered. The distributor wants the EPK on a master tape with a four channel mix. The problem is getting it to render it out that way.
We shot the EPK on P2 cards (720p), although the finished cut, while predominantly made up of P2 footage, also contains quite a number of production stills, SD footage and clips from the finished film sourced from the final Quicktime render file. Now the producer suddenly decides he wants me to export it as an MXF and put it on a P2 card, which he can then take to his people and have dubbed to HDCAM.
But, even after reading the CS4 manual, which seems to indicate that you can export back to P2 in four channels, I can't get it to work right.
I thought it was because I hadn't set up my sequence timeline for 5.1, so I created a new timeline as a 5.1 output. Then I had trouble porting the clips over to that because of memory issues (big project), so what I decided to do was export the project timeline twice as an MXF sequence. The first time I muted the tracks which had the music and effects on them and exported just the main program. Then I muted the main program audio and unmuted the music and effects and exported again. Then I opened a new project with a sequence that was set up for 5.1. I laid down both exports on the time line, the two video tracks right on top of each other. Then I used Source Channel mappings to route the main program to channels one and two, and the music and effects to channels three and four. I played it on the timeline and saw four channels light up with the mix.
So thinking I had solved the problem, I exported it again as a MXF and examined the output - only to find that the new sequence was only two channels, and only the main program audio. The music and effects were nowhere to be found.
Anybody know how to get this to work? Thanks!

Unfortunately, unless a software CD-4 demodulator exists that can process "modulated" recordings (it might...), you'll need 4-channel hardware capture capability.  This is pretty common for musicians and you might find solutions in the music equipment section of Best Buy.
In terms of software - Audacity is amazing and VERY powerful.  One thing you might be able to do with Audacity is something like:
    Record player -> CD-4 decoder -> 4-channel audio capture card/interface -> 4-track WAV file
    then
4-track WAV file -> 4.0 or 5.1 channel AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio -> Dolby Digital capable surround receiver
The latter is actually what I do with recordings from my Zoom H2 - however this has 4-channel mic recording but not 4-channel line-in recording.
It looks like, in order to do software CD-4 demodulation, your recording solution will have to have a VERY high samplerate and a much higher cutoff for its lowpass filter than typical for audio - there are likely to be few off-the-shelf solutions for recording the "un-demodulated" CD-4 inputs.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadraphonic_sound#CD-4_.28Compatible_Discrete_4.29_.2F_Quadradisc - In short, I don't think recording to PC and then demodulating is going to be practical.
*disclaimer* I am not now, nor have I ever been, an employee of Best Buy, Geek Squad, nor of any of their affiliate, parent, or subsidiary companies.

  • How do i connect to a wifi network after my time capsule has completed its auto setup.

Let me start by saying I contract overseas currently in Afghanistan. Ok so I have over 10 networks in my area and can not connect to a router with ethernet cable. When it does the auto setup it finds the network sometimes but doesn't stay up long enough for me to enter my password. I just dont know how or where to manually set up my network. I also dont know what information i need. I dont have access to any of the routers so this might not even be possible.
    Thanks Dan

Unfortunately, the Time Capsule, and AirPort Extreme do require an Ethernet connection when they are connected to a 3rd party wireless network.
It is a bit goofy....and I don't know if it will work in your particular situation.....but here is what I do when am traveling and I want to set up a private wireless network in my room......and the hotel only provides a wireless connection. I travel with an AirPort Express and another AirPort router....two devices.
One AirPort Express is configured to "Join a wireless network", so it receives the wireless signal from the hotel. That same Express then feeds an Ethernet signal from its LAN port to the WAN port on another AirPort router, which is set up to "create a wireless network".
So, I can set up my own private network in the room and connect from multiple devices....wireless or wired...and only pay for one connection.
