Automate a series of keystrokes

greetings,
i'd like to automate a series of keystrokes, kinda like photoshop does with actions.
is there a function in fcp to do this?
essentially, i'd like to do shift-G control-G (find next gap, eliminate gap) about 500 times over by the pressing of one key. this will eliminate gaps in my timeline while preserving the chronology of each track.

I don't know whether this helps but this is what my friend and I did.
He has FCP running on Leopard - we used Automator to record the keystrokes, saved it as an Applescript. And because I'm running Tiger, we took that script into Applescript, did some slight tweaks (As Leopard uses certain features that are not available in Tiger, main thing being the Tell Application command) and voila! It runs beautifully.

First some background: I am using my computer for my thesis (medical statistics and traumatology) and most often I write my commands in Pages and then "copy/paste" them into my commandprompts in the statisticalprogram(STATA) as an "do"-file. This usually is a very efficient method for me and "search/replace" have been a good old friend for years. As time goes by my work is increasing in size and my last thing is thinking about trying to make Pages help me do "automatic number series"(?) instead of "search/replace". Is there anyone out there who knows how to make the program do my work so I could save my brain(and time) to more important things?

Create two tables as shown below:
The top table is a set up table
The bottom table creates the updated queuries.
In the set up table paste the exact query into the cell for the queury (cell B3) but replace the "S0055" with "<X>". To make the example fit I abbreviated the query
In the bottom table (name "Query Results"):
the first row is a header row

I purchased, downloaded and viewed a tv series. Now I want to delete it, but it keeps coming up in my automatic download. I've deleted it as much as I can, so how do I stop the re-download each time I access iTunes?

It could be possible that iTunes is showing your iTunes in the Cloud purchases in your library. To get rid of (you can only hide them, not permanently remove them) purchases in iTunes in the Cloud, follow the instructions in the support document below. Hopefully it fixes this issue for you.

Is it possible to automate a series of actions in Aperture?

I've recently started using automate of repeated features in Photoshop. Now that I'm getting used to the speed increase in workflow, I'm looking for something similar in Aperture. Is there some kind of automate of workflow that is available for Aperture so I can push one button to cause a series of workflow actions to happen?

Open up Automator, I think it's pretty intuitive.
Or once it's open, click on the Help menu and choose Automator Help. There's basically a whole manual in there.

"Fill Down" automatically creates series of dates

Stupid question perhaps, but here goes:
I'm working with a spreadsheet that has a date column.
I typed a date into a cell then attempted to copy that same date into some cells below it by using the "fill down" command. Instead, it created a series of dates, adding one day per row.
Isn't there some way to just copy the date to the cells below without creating a series???

Michele,
Copy/Paste and Fill are different operations and have different results. Had you Copied the first entry and Pasted it to the remaining cells, you would have gotten the result you wanted. The Fill feature assumes that you want a series rather than a duplication.

More Questions on Rules in General

Okay so here is my
situation. I have a user that is wanting to use either Public folders
or a shared mailbox to automate a series of manual processes.
For example:
A customer service rep(CSR) takes a call asking for x to be completed.
CSR than sends an email to [email protected][1]
with the subject of "x"
The email is received in the mailbox or public folder.
An exchange rule moves the incoming message to the "In-Process" Folder
A user in that department reviews and completes the request.
The user moves the item to a complete folder. Or selects a category
that would than fire another rule that would move it to complete.
This process would be spanning multiple users.
They would also be used for multiple processes and changed for the "subject of x,y,z".
The process cannot be dependent on one users mailbox so everything needs to happen server-side (unless client side rules are different on Public Folders).
My questions:
Is all of this even possible, I have made it basically work but only with client rules.
I don't think that we should be using our exchange server to do this, am I just flat out wrong?
I am struggling to convince the user that we just need to have a
workflow software (sharepoint or like it) to be doing this type of thing
as we will have much more control over the workflow.
Any other thoughts or ideas?
Anyone else using exchange to do these types of things?

I'm afraid you can NOT achieve your requirement on your exchange server.
On the exchange server, You can only use transport rules to specify message to a particular mailbox, not a particular folder.

Browsing for a file and selecting a Virtual Machine on hyper-v

Hi everyone, sorry if the title is a bit problematic.
New to Powershell here, I'm trying to create a script that will let me Browse for a .vhd file, and then let me select a Virtual Machine to attach it to using SCSI attachment.
So far I managed to attach and detach the VHD files using add-vmharddiskdrive, but using read-host I have to manually enter the address of the .vhd file every time, as well as using read-host to input the VM name.
Is there any way to browse for the file, select it, and then run the add-vmharddiskdrive command?
So far the script I have is this:
$VHDLocation = Read-Host Enter VHD Location
$VMName = Read-Host Enter VM Name
Add-VMHardDiskDrive -VMName $VMName -Path $VHDLocation -ControllerType SCSI
Basically I want to shorten the time it takes to manually type the vhd location and the VM name. Any way to do that?

I couldn't get the Select-fromgridview to work sadly, but after snooping around on several different forums I managed to copy-paste some codes and after some work and trial and error I got the script to work perfectly, except for one problem. When the box
pops up to let met select a VM, it pops in the background, as in, behind the ISE itself. So I have to alt tab to see it. Is there any way to make it pop to the front?
I'd go through the script myself but like I said I'm very new to this and honestly most of this could be Chinese for all I know.

How do I run a full process from SSIS ???

Hi all
I run BPC 5.1 SP3, and I need to automate a series of jobs, but the system is giving me problems and I hope someone can help out.
I need to automate a full optimize and then a full process of our AppSets.
I know that in SP3, the Appsets are taken offline for the full optimize and are then left offline, so in-between I run the "SystemAvailableTask" to set the Appsets back online.
Additionally, all dependencies are removed from the FACT table for the optimized AppSets, which are only rebuilt by performing the full process afterwards.
Anyway, the problem I have is that the optimize is running quite happily from SSIS, as is the SystemAvailableTask.
Up to this point in the job, everything works as intended, so I now have a fully optimized Appset, which is available for users to access.
However, the Full Process job then fails.
I have run the Full Process as a standalone job from SSIS and it takes 2m36s to run, but fails to rebuild any dependencies.
When I ran it from the SAP Admin program, it took 9m57s to run and rebuilt everything correctly.
I am currently only offered 1 option in the SSIS package, which is to run a Full or an Incremental process, so I select Full.
However, on the right-hand side, there are various other options available (such as bApplicationProcess, PROCESSMODE (set to "3"), PROCESSOPTION (set to "1"))
Should I be changing any of the settings on the right to make the job run properly, or should I be doing it differently.
Obviously, I need to make this work from SSIS, as I can't schedule a full process any other way, so I would be extremely grateful for any help that you can offer.

The easiest way to do this is to write a Tuxedo server (i.e., using only
ATMI and no CORBA stuff) that does the following:
1.) In tpsvrinit(), the last thing that it should do is a tpacall to the
service contained in this server (and nowhere else) with the TPNOREPLY
flag.
2.) In the method that implements the service, do your database work, sleep
for a little while, do another tpacall to itself with the TPNOREPLY flag,
and return.

CS5 Issues

I've barely begun to use CS5 (evaluation copy) and have already found some issues I don't know how to solve. And I was so looking forward to content aware fill!
1) CS5 is losing focus after a resize. I do a lot of repetitive things where I use a series of keystrokes to accomplish something, trying to avoid mousing in order to do it faster. So I do CTRL/ALT I, enter the first number, tab, tab, enter the second, press enter. Then I do CTRL/A to select it all. BOOP! So I mouse and touch the top bar on the image. Then I can do CTRL/A. I also discovered if I hit ESC after doing the resize I can do CTRL/A. This is not how CS4 behaves.
2) I have the memory issue. Yes, I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT display adapter. When I went to turn off Open GL I found it was not turned on so that's not a fix for me. I guess we're waiting on that one.
3) When I close CS5, I get Adobe Photoshop CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Well, I was closing it anyway, but this is a pain. Is this related to the video problem? I see in some posts about previous version of Photoshop that a video driver problem could cause that. I don't have a problem with CS4 though... I'm not terribly excited to go in a muck with video drivers when everything else but CS5 works, which includes a LOT of programs.

If it is that specific, then there is another memory problem. I got out of memory and wasn't using content aware fill. I had merely opened a number of images, edited them, and closed them. Something I've done many times with CS4 and never had an out of memory problem. That elevates this problem to more serious, if it isn't even known by Adobe. With Windows xp, I have max memory installed. With CS4 I ran Lightroom, Bridge, and CS4 without ever getting an out of memory problem. I guess I'm not going to upgrade in the near future.

Sony Vegas vs Premiere Pro CC

I used Sony Vegas before, the main feature I used was the keyframes to make the video move with the music, and now I switched to Pr, but the keyframes here are sooo diferent and 10 times more difficult to use for no reason, when I select the keyframe it doesn't even go to it, I have to drag my self to it, I need to adjust the Position and Scale separately, etc.
Also, when I pause the video (spacebar), I want it to go where it started playing, so I don't have to drag it back everytime!
So I wanted to ask if there is any plugin that changes it to be more easy to use, maybe so that it turns into the Sony Vegas way to edit, idk.

Are you trying to do this on the timeline or in the Effects Control dialog.
The effects control dialog has a set of controls that allow you jump to the next or previous keyframe for each parameter, including scale and position. In that dialog, I believe that if you select the keyframe, the parameter displays show the value for that keyframe.
The scrubber wont jump back automatically, but, there are keystrokes that allow you to jump to the begiing or end of a clip, or jump to the begining of the sequence.
Many people on this site use keystrokes rather than mouse operations as they find shifting between the mouse and keyboard inefficient.

Import from Powerpoint to Captivate 1.0

I'm trying to simply automate a series of Power Point slides
in Captivate. My company has a standard slide format that has
footers with clear text on a colured background. Although the slide
content comes in clearly the footers are blurred, the characters
seemingly merging.
I ideally wanted 800x600 for best web look, but have tried
1024 x768 but the image still appears blurred. I think I have tried
every setting of properties. Any ideas?

It sounds like you have a slight mismatch between the aspect
ratios of your Captivate movie and the PowerPoint presentation. It
strikes me that you could either try 1) using "File > Page
Setup" in PPT to change the aspect ratio of your PPT and then do a
manual capture/import operation into Captivate of the selected
slides, or else 2) if a straight manual capture would not produce a
scalability problem for the slide in Captivate, you could use the
PPT splitter bars to resize the thumbnail image in Normal view to
whatever you need and then manually capture the slide, taking care
to crop the slide top and bottom to get the aspect ratio the way
you need. Hopefully someone else can suggest a more elegant
solution - good luck!

Hi,
Thanks, your first suggestion worked! I did not know I could
do a custom-sized PPT slide. I did File > Page Setup and chose
"Custom" for Slides sized for field. Then, I specified the height
and width of the slides based on the size of my existing Captivate
project. For this, I had to convert pixels of the Captivate project
to inches in PPT. I divided the pixels dimensions by 72 and got the
approximate inches. For example, 798x546 in Captivate converted to
11.1" x 7.6" in PPT.

Hi,
A caveat to this solution: When I switched to a Custom sized
PPT slide size, PowerPoint automatically adjusted the font sizes,
too. For example, I increased the width of the PPT slide a little
bit and my 24 pt Heading font became 26 pt. Our corporate standard
is 24 pt. So, I had to go into the slides and adjust the font sizes
back to the corporate standards.

Manual Invoice number duplication message

Hi All,
We were wondering if someone could clarify the following situation:
Whilst working on 2 TEST company databases we have encountered a small problem. We have 2 BP accounts "Example1" and
" Example2" , both had invoices with the reference 1234567 , entering in to "Example1"was fine, but when we tried to enter this ref No. for "Example2" the system told us we had already entered it and would allow no further processing.
We think we will come across different suppliers that have the same series of reference nou2019s from time to time, how is this dealt with within SAP B1?

Hi Matthew,
The manual number you are entering is normally your internal reference for Purchase Invoices in SAP. Therefore you cannot enter a duplicate number. All of our customers have this set as an automatic numbering series.
Most clients would put the suppliers invoice number in to the Customer / Supplier Ref No. field (numatcard).
The numatcard will still check for duplicate invoice numbers, but only for one supplier. So, you cannot enter 1234567 on the same BP account twice without warning, but you can enter 1234567 across 2 supplier accounts.

Prevention of Labor Risks IS-EHS

Good morning.
We have the vertical solution for the Prevention of Labor Risks IS-EHS and according to requirements of the client, we have been ourselves forced to modify the standard provided by you, to automate a series of processes, which we have obtained after several headaches. On the other hand, we have created descriptions to size for the preventive measures, which are going to be contained in the evaluation of labor risks, that have been created as well in standard transaction SE61 like texts of the type documentation (DOKU).
One of the automatizations that we have had to make, is that when an evaluation is created on a labor risk, automatically it loaded its preventive measures, in such a way that automatically the descriptions of these preventive measures are loaded, but one of those headaches before mentioned, is that when these preventive measures were loaded, when pressing on the position and showing the additional text, it showed not only the text of the first position of preventive measure but that also showed the text of the second position of preventive measure and that we have been able to separate it based on the noticeable position.
Another requirement of the client, is to be able to modify for that position of preventive measure in the treatment of labor risks, for a risk in particular, the descriptive text, in such a way that it is not updated for all the risks that contain this preventive measure. When trying to modify it or simply to add additional lines, in the publisher of SAPscript appears this blocked text, for that reason we cannot unblock it and therefore we cannot modify it. What we do not know is to unblock it, we have the risk of which this text is modified for all the risks that contain this preventive measure and we wanted to know how to be able to do it or what measures to take for being able to carry out it, since in that point we are blocked.
We have tried to create in the SAPscript for the description of that preventive measure, other formulas, but they have not been feasible. Between the used or taken measures we emphasized the following ones:
- To make include of text, but at no moment shows that include to us of text when displaying it, printing it to treat it in later modifications.
- To include clipboard of user for the text of the preventive measure, but when making it, they do not appear either unless we show them by menu and to make matters worse, that file of user is not unique for the treated preventive measure, but that appears for all the preventive measures and all the created risks and to create, due to we are limited five clipboards of user for all the application, unless there is a method to be able to separate them by evaluation or labor risk or preventive measure and that they always appear with the introduced text.
- To create other texts standard of another type (TEXT), but that doesn´t leave possibility any to the user to be able to modify it, reason due to we return again to the same position where we were and would be necessary to use include to be able to introduce it in the text loaded for the preventive measure.
- We don´t know if the object of authorization C_EHSI_DOC for the profiles of user authorization, will help in something, but in the existing documentation in the SPRO it indicates that single it is possible to assign these objects to the area of work and in the log of Accidents

Command Key is not working properly

My Command key is corrupted and when I type command-v I get a checkmark. I must have mistakenly changed a preference by some series of keystrokes but can't figure out what I did. Help!

I guess I found the "solution." I went into System Preferences - Keyboard and Mouse - Keyboard - Modifier Keys - and I switched the modifier keys. Now Command is set to be Option and vice versa. And things seem to be working now. Command-Tab enables me to see the programs that are running etc. And the "checkmark" of "√" is creeated by doing an Option V which is apparently the default from what I read. So all is well I guess.
Has anyone else had this problem with the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000?

proremote simply doesnt work in logic 9 but did in 8? anyone else got same problem?
Automap sees all fx/inst OK. i cant get it set up as a transport controller tho. the protocol 'AUTOMAP HUI' is not a pull down option in surface input/ouput. and when surfaces scanned, the HUI option is italicised (unavailable). any ideas on either?

I don't think there are Logic-specific downloads for it, but they are ridiculously simple to create. All you have to do is create a button and assign it a keystroke (or series of keystrokes). Then, whenever you hit that button, Logic sees it exactly as if you hit the same key(s) on your Mac keyboard. Also, the latest version allows you to use graphics files on buttons, so you can even make it look like any hardware you want
