Automate import applications(app-v) in sccm 2012
Hi,
I wonder it there are some ready made tools to import applications, specifically app-v in SCCM 2012.
F.e. an excel-sheet/csv that is filled in with predefined fields and then can import applications.
Pls advise.
J.

The only community tool that I know is SCCM 2012 Application Importer, see:
https://sccmappimp.codeplex.com/
AFAIK, this tool doesn't work with App-V applications, yet.

Automate USER BASED PACKAGE installations in SCCM 2012
Hi All,
I want to automate the installation of software(in my case a user based package) from the Application Catalog.
Here is just some general information:
1. All software(Applications and Packages) deployed to Device Colllections will be published in Software Center
2. All software(Applications and Packages) deployed to User Based Collections will be published in the Application Catalog
3. Once software has been deployed from the Application Catalog, it is also available/visible in Software Centre .. this could be confusing for (scripted) test purposes!
To Automate installations i tested the following (Powershell) methods:
Methode 1 - Install Device Based Packages (This works)
$SoftwareCenter = New-Object -ComObject UIResource.UIResourceMgr
# to show applications
$Application = $SoftwareCenter.GetAvailableApplications() | where {$_.name -like $APPNAME}
# to install an application
$SoftwareCenter.ExecuteProgram($Application.id, $Application.PackageId, $true)
(once an User Based Package has been installed from the Application Catalog, it will be shown in the results of this method .. but initially it don't!!)
Method 2 - Install Device based Applications (This works)
Invoke-WmiMethod -Namespace root\ccm\clientsdk -Class CCM_Application -Name Install -ArgumentList 0,"xxAPP scope IDxx",$True,$False,1,1
Method 3 - Install User based Applications
Invoke-WmiMethod -Namespace root\ccm\clientsdk -Class CCM_Application -Name Install -ArgumentList 0,"xxAPP scope IDxx",$False,$False,1,1
(once an User Based Application has been installed from the Application Catalog, this method can be used .. but initially it can't!!)
Method 4 - Install User Based Packages (NOT WORKING)
This solution is based on an (scripted) installation from the Application Catalog. Information can be found on the following sites:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2012/09/19/extending-the-application-catalog-in-system-center-2012-configuration-manager.aspx
http://allthingsconfigmgr.wordpress.com/2012/10/02/application-catalog-uncovered/#more-284
You can see the usable operations/methodes, by using the following URL in your SCCM 2012 environment:
http://YOURSITE/CMApplicationCatalog/ApplicationViewService.asmx
The method i tried for an installation part is 'installapplication', see example below:
$service.Installapplication($appid, $deviceid, $null)
This syntax is correct because it's giving a result that indicates the my command was correct(when i change the variables it produces an error), but that's it ... no application is installed.
For the record: the operations/methods 'RequestApplicationForUser and GetApplications' are working fine.
There is also log file 'ServicePortalWebService.log' on the Application Catalog Server in
C:\Program Files\SMS_CCM\CMApplicationCatalogSvc\Logs, where i can see that Installation call is (correctly) be done.
To be short:
Is there anybody who can tell me how to automate (with Powershell) an USER BASED PACKAGE installation?
With kind regards,
Hayo VeenstraThanks for your reaction.
What i want is creating shortcuts in the startmenu of a user, that initiates a SCCM software installation. We also use this method for our SCCM 2007 environment by initating advertisments. I do not want a required user deployments, because when that user
logs on on another machine (for a short time) .. all his/her software will be deployed. So i do not want to install unnescessary software .. only what a user initiates.
Do you have other suggestions?
I'm not sure about the shortcuts. But, as for required deployments to users installing on all machines they log onto: Not if you have User Device Affinity running for you. You can set a requirement in the application to only install on a user's
primary device. Another option that we often deploy is to use App-V to deploy a virtual version of that app if the device they logged onto is not their primary. When they log off, it goes away. This is all done using User Device Affinity.
This is new in 2012. -
How do Virtual Applications get published in SCCM 2012
SCCM 2012 Virtrual applications are deployed, icons appear on desktop and appear to be installed according to the Application Management Client console. However the SCCM2012 AppDiscovery.log states "Required component is not published".
We are running MS Application Virtualization Desktop Client is V4.6.3.25171. Where can I find the publishing errors?Only find Dll, exe files and some XML files there.
I do see in the CCM\log\AppDiscovery.log the following:

But I don't know why all the components are not getting published.
I have the icons for this app on the desktop and my ID is in the uninstall collection. The uninstall collection says:

But it seems like the AppDiscovery.log does not think the app is installed. Everytime I run the Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle on the client the AppDiscovery.log shows it trying to install. And since it does not think the app is
installed, the uninstall does not seem to run. I know I am missing something as I have many apps that act this way.
Hope you can help! -
How to uncheck "install new versions automatically" from INTERNET EXPLORER 11 from SCCM 2012
We have deployed "Internet Explorer 11" application through SCCM 2012 console .the deployed application was customized using "Internet Explorer customization wizard 11" tool.
issue:
we are getting "install new versions automatically" check box as checked
when we see from help about "about internet Explorer"
seeking solution:
how to uncheck "install new versions automatically" check box from SCCM 2012 console.
please let me know if we have any solution for this instant
thanks,
Gc.HanumareddyHi,
For option: "install new versions automatically", we can simply prevent it via GPO or registry (the registry entry can also be deployed via GPO)
Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Internet Explorer - Install new versions of Internet Explorer automatically
Or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"EnableAutoUpgrade"=dword:00000000

IIS Recycle times for Service Application App pool / Reporting Services 2012 memory
Hello,
On our SharePoint application servers we run the Reporting Services 2012 in SharePoint integrated mode. For the Reporting Services SharePoint sets up a own App Pool.
Now we found, that this App Pool for Reporting Services takes all the memory of the server. Usually the SharePoint Web Application App Pool are recycled at night. The Service Application App Pools are not ? I'm confused.
Of course, if an App Pool does not recylce it takes all memory it gets.
>> But why is the recycling option in IIS not set for SharePoint Service Application pools? Does any know if we can just set recycle times, like for the Web Application app pools?
Thanks in advance community.
BenjaminYou may want to consider limiting the amount of memory to be allocated to SSRS by editing C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\WebServices\Reporting\rsreportserver.config and changing the value of <MemoryThreshold>.
This value is in percent. SSRS evaluates the amount of memory on service startup and will allocate up to this percentage of memory to SSRS.
You also may want to consider increasing the amount of memory available on that SharePoint server.

Application uninstall bug of SCCM 2012 R2 with Cu2?
I install SCCM 2012 R2, then Update to CU1, last moth I had updated to CU2
I create two deployment type for winzip application.
It is 'available' and not 'required'.
Use script installer, it contains mst file. the script is vbs
One is for x64, the other is for x86. all of them contains uninstall program(msiexec /x {code} /q)
Install is ok
But the uninstall button is grayed out.
When I delete x86 deployment type then can uninstall this application
It seem if it has more than one of deployment type, the uninstall button is grayed out
I saw CU1 had fixed this bug, but why I met it again? It is new bug of SCCM 2012 R2 CU2?
I find R2 CU1 and R2 CU2 client update package in SCCM.
Do I need to deploy them to all PC?
If I use sccm OSD to install OS(Use default Configuration Manager Client Package), If I need to update Client in this client? Thanks, Narcoticoo & Torsten
I also do the test, it is because I didn't push the update to client, I have some new questions about Update CU

Installing an application through Powershell with SCCM 2012 r2 is not working as expected
I am trying to install a VOIP client using a powershell script. When I run the powershell script on the client in a administrative powershell prompt the script runs fine and it installs the application as expected. When I try to do the same thing through
the SCCM client using an application it does not install.
I am not a Powershell Guru so the script below is my simple understanding of installations through powershell as of this moment

The uninstall part works fine, but the installation (2 parts) do not. As I mentioned before... when I run the script manually it all works fine.
The application is installed using a script. The commandline is
powershell.exe -excecutionpolicy bypass -file Install_UserApps_SU6_Kantoor.ps1
The application runs hidden in the context of the system wether or not the user is logged on. The maximum allowed run time is sufficient (30 minutes).
There is no installation log from the msiexec command so the line were the application should be installed is not executed at all. There is also no mention in my own little log ($logfile = "$env:TEMP\cic_su6-install.txt") mentioning the result
of the installation.
The appenforce.log says...

I'm thinking of going back to a batchfile because that seems to do the job, but Powershell is much more powerfull.
Anybody got any answers on what is going wrong are some suggestions for a better script? You have a number of problems here.
1. As mentioned you have UNC paths ... which means there's no reason for a package at all. f you want SCCM to use the package it just downloaded you should use $PSScriptRoot (PS equivelant of %~0dp). If the client is using v2 or earlier
... fix that quick by starting your script with:
If (!$PSScriptRoot) {
$PSSCriptRoot = Split-Path $MyInvocation.MyCommand.Path -Parent
Now you can call your install easy enough with a $PSScriptRoot+"\app.exe"
2. your discovery is failing after install. This will always make SCCM report an installation failed even when the exit code is 0. You can see it at the end of your log:
Matched exit code 0 to a Success entry in exit codes table. AppEnforce 17-4-2015 16:31:08 640 (0x0280)
Performing detection of app deployment type Interaction Client - Standaard SU6(ScopeId_2EC1E80A-D73E-4152-A94F-546E7827CCB6/DeploymentType_720b132a-5626-4055-9555-18b4775724c4, revision 7) for system. AppEnforce 17-4-2015 16:31:08 640 (0x0280)
+++ Application not discovered. [AppDT Id: ScopeId_2EC1E80A-D73E-4152-A94F-546E7827CCB6/DeploymentType_720b132a-5626-4055-9555-18b4775724c4, Revision: 7] AppEnforce 17-4-2015 16:31:08 640 (0x0280)
So either your installation script is spitting out a exit code 0 regardless of the event OR your detection is wrong.
EDIT: you have exit statemetns after failed installs ... but no exit code (simply exit). Change those to exit 1 so sccm knows it's a failed exit and not just a generic exit. That's probably your problem (unc can't be reached as system, you're
getting an exit .... not defining exit 1).
Something like this (warning this is a fast change so review it):
<#

16-Bit App Support for SCCM 2012 Task Sequence / WinPE 4.0
I'm not sure if what we're trying to do is even possible, but I am hoping it is. I wrote a little script to check the BIOS asset tag info and if it isn't a valid numeric number it prompts in the task sequence to enter the correct asset tag number.
We're trying to do this so we have it on a custom SCCM report for inventory tracking. The problem is the Acer utility is 16-bit and it kicks back an error in WinPE saying that
you don't have access to run 16-bit applications and to check your permissions with your system admin. Where does WinPE store these permissions? I know where they are in GPO's but not for SCCM's WinPE.

How to repackage "jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe" application and deploy through SCCM 2012
Hi,
Along with IE 11 we are planning to deploy "jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe"
Created transform file for "jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe" by using Adminstudio Installshield.
Identified vendor .MSI file at
%AppData%\LocalLow\Sun\Java\jre1.7.0_72\jre1.7.0_72.msi"
%AppData%\LocalLow\Sun\Java\jre1.7.0_72\Data1.cab
Created Transform file
Created transform file for "jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe" by using Adminstudio Installshield with the Tuner feature
My queries:
Do we have any best practices while repackaging “jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe?” by Adminstudio
How to deploy the jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe application assuming with parallel deployment of IE
11.
Do we uninstall lower versions of Java when installing any newer versions like jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe?
if yes then how to handle
Do we install jre-7u72-windows-i586.exe application without uninstallations of any lower version of JAVA , if yes then how to handle
Looking for best practices / Customizations ?
Thanks, appreciate your help.
Han,
Gc.HanumareddyAlternatively, why not actually reference Oracle official documentation or post in their forums (because as Torsten said, this really has nothing to do with ConfigMgr or Microsoft even).
http://java.com/en/download/help/msi_install.xml looks to be a great place to start.

App-v management server or SCCM 2012 integration?
Hi,
We are using App-V 5.0 integrated within SCCM 2012 for a while now but aren't happy with it.
Hope was that in some update of sccm 2012 it would improve but it does not. That's why the idea arises to use the Ap-V management server again.
Below a comparison of the two options, I was wondering what your opinion on this matter is.
App-V via SCCM 2012:
Pro:
Full integration with SCCM 2012
Contra:
Dependency on SCCM 2012 client (when SCCM client doens’t work, App-V doesn’t work either)
Slow responstimes before package arrives at user (SCCM needs to scan AD groups, SCCM client needs a policy refresh)
App-V Management server:
Pro:
Deploy is also possible to computers as from App-V 5.0 management server
http://virtualvibes.co.uk/enabling-computer-based-targeting-in-app-v-5-0/
“the fact that we can now target machines instead of users when publishing packages”
Fast respsonsetime: deploy & uninstall
Automatic uninstall when user/computer isn’t member of AD group anymore
Contra:
Extra server needed
Note: the migration from SCCM to the App-V Management server should be transparent, right? Unpublish existing packages via SCCM, publish via management server
Please advise.

Jan HoedtHow many data centres and sites are these RDS servers and desktops deployed across?
If you read Rory's blog post, you'll get a sense of what the App-V Full Infrastructure's down sides are across multiple sites/DCs.

How to uninstall applications in SCCM 2012 R2
Hi,
We have installed following applications using "Applications" mode of SCCM 2012 R2.
XML Notepad
Notepad++
Adobe Reader XI
How do we uninstall these applications from clients using SCCM 2012 R2? Do we create deployment type for each and uninstall? You can configure an install and uninstall command line for each deployment type. Then there are 'install' and 'uninstall' deployments. Uninstall deployments can be used to uninstall software. Keep in mind that an install deployments wins over an uninstall
deployment if both are deployed to the same machine.

Getting "Error: 0x80070654" when trying to install SCCM 2012 R2 Console from Software Center
What I did:
Created a Package Source share on the Site Server
Gave the Package Source Share the following Share permissions: SCCM Admins: Full Control, Domain Computers: Full Control, Local Admins: Full Control.
Copied the "Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\tools\ConsoleSetup" folder to my package source (Since the Package Source is actually on the site server, I just copied the ConsoleSetup folder to it that is on the same drive)
Created a package and a Standard Program
Command line: ConsoleSetup.exe
I deploy it to my collection
Run Machine Policy and Reevaluation on my Right Click Tools
Go to one of my clients and open up Software Center and click the Install button
It fails with ""Error: 0x80070654"
I open up execmgr.log on the client using CMTrace and I use the error lookup tool and it shows that the 0x80070654 error is "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer
package"
I also see a red highlighted line in the execmgr.log file with the following entry: "Script for Package:PRI00013, Program: SCCM 2012 R2 Management Console failed with exit code 2147944020"
I can run ConsoleSetup.exe using a command line to the package source.

ThanksCool, mate it is then.
Yeah it either changed or there is a typo.
I re-created everything and I still get that same 0x80070654 error.
This is really frustrating

Past Due - Will be installed issue in SCCM 2012
Deployment of an application task sequence after the initial OS deployment task sequence is working fine, but several application deployments that is deployed to a role collection does not
install even if they are deployed required and deadline is passed. As you can see from print screen all the jobs is received by the agent, so the question is, why do they not start
installing automatically?
Checked the Computer Agent settings and all the settings were also intact including “Additional Software manages the deployment of application” setting was set to No so there
is something else due to which this is not installing.
Checked in the below post for the same issue
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rslaten/archive/2013/11/26/past-due-applications-not-installing-in-sccm-2012.aspx#comments
as per it issue may be with Incorrect revision number within any of the task sequences
targeted to a machine. Now how do I find the application with the incorrect revision number in any of the task sequences targeted to the machine?
Also not sure how to go about verifying the correct revision numbers in the task sequences if this is the issue in my case
Please suggest.Have you checked is there a maintenance window set? - No
Also can they find the content on a DP? Yes
Are the files present on the client in ccmcache? Yes -
