Automate "relocate menu bar"
How can I automate the "relocate menu bar" functionality found in the display arrangment tag in system preferences. I want to be able to quickly move the menu bat to my Cintiq tablet display, either by clicking an icon or a keyboard shortcut.
Well, for one, this an Automator forum, so as for doing that with Automator there would have to be an action for it. Have a look at the actions included in Automator, you won't find an action for moving the menu bar from one display to another.
You also probably won't find an action created by a third-party developer (i.e. not Apple) that would do that, either. Though if you search for one and do find it, then you're is problem is solved.
I would say you really need to try the AppleScript forum. No guarantee they'll be able to help, but that is much more suited for your request. Automator is more oriented towards repetitive tasks on large batches of files, or a perhaps a group of tasks. Such a singular and non-file related request as yours is more likely to be solved with AppleScript. While an Automator workflow can have AppleScript in it, it's not worth it unless you're also doing other tasks that can be accomplished with Automator actions. Might as well stick with pure AppleScript for such a task, if it can be done at all.

I am in and out of my office with my MacBook Air. I would like to set it up so when I plug in my Thunderbolt display in the office, the Thunderbolt display has my desktop, menu bar and the open windows. If I set the Thunderbolt display to mirror by MacBook Air it adjusts to the lower resolution of the MacBook Air, which is a waste of a cool monitor. I can set it up as an extended desktop and drag the white menu bar to the Thunderbolt display so it displays my desktop but if I then disconnect my MacBook Air, the menu bar is absent and all the windows that were seen on that display are absent, as if it I was still attached to the larger display. The only way around this is to go to Thunderbolt display preferences, drag the white menu bar back to the smaller display and manually drag all windows to the smaller display before disconnecting. Doing this multiple times per day is a real pain. Is there a way to set my MacBook Air to recognize when it is attached to the Thunderbolt display and automatically my desktop and all open windows to it and then do the same process in reverse when I unhook it?
It's definitely not supposed to work like that...when you plug the display in, it should just turn on and adjust your displays. It works like that on my MBP. Kind of a silly question, but do you have the MagSafe from the display plugged in your MBAir too? Thats a requirement. Beyond that, it should "just work."

When I go to a web page, that page appears upper left, filling only half of my screen top and bottom. Each time I have to go to the menu bar View and go to full page. How can I get the web pages to display in the full screen automatically??? This just started happening.

Can the Menu Bar be placed under the Toolbar like in previous versions of Firefox?
Had to reset Firefox browser today which automatically update to latest version, 32.0.3 . When I added the Menu Bar back on the Startpage it (by default) placed it above the Tab/Toolbar. I originally had it just below the Toolbar, and would like to place it back in that position. I already tried to move it by the "Customize" button, but it does not allow the user to move it there.
You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to customize the appearance in Firefox 29 and later and make it look like older Firefox versions.

Spry Menu Bar 1.7 Rendering Variable background height based presence/absense of sub-menus
First, let me thank those who have offered help on previous posts on this issue -- the suggestions have pointed me in new directions.
However I am still having problems with the first menu item on the top level of a horizontal menu bar which (because it has no sub-menu) renders the background differently from the other main level items. I have implemented suggestions, as you will see, by setting a class for menu items with sub-menus as per the suggestion, and then proceeding working with line height to make specific changes within that class. However any changes appeared universally through the menu bar at all levels.
Working from that suggestion, I tried establishing a class of "menubarhorizontal_no-sub-menu" and then adjusted the line height for that item. Unfortunately it applied this change again to all items leaving a displeasing white gap between menu items in the drop down menus.
I wanted to put out a call once more. I realize that the problem is in determining which of the rules to style, but I seem to have exhausted the possibilities. The latest version can be seen at www.aclco.org/testing/index.html which will provide a visual of the problem. You can see it doesn't look much different than the original which is http://www.aclco.org/index.html.

Finally, there is minimal css coding to help position the menu bar within the web page relative to the top of the page, and left edge of the web page.
This is done with a div tag called Main Nav Contents.

I'm using a horizontal spry menu bar with horizontal sub menu
and have almost gotten the navigation exactly how I need it. I'm
stuck, however, and don't know how to fix the following:
1. I have absolute positioning set for my sub menu so that
the items appear under the left-most main menu item instead of
their parent item. When I change screen sizes, the sub menu stays
put (as it should) and everything else moves with the re-size. I
can't figure out where the sub menu positioning is originally set
to change it or how to get it to appear where it currently is
without using absolute positioning.
2. I would like to center the contents of the sub menu and I
think I've tried text-align:center everywhere possible but to no
avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
3. Is there any way that the menu can recongnize the page
that it's on and display the appropriate link high-lighted. For
example, when you open the home page the active/focus state for the
"Home" button shows (for this menu it would be a different color
background image) and it's corresponding sub menu would be
displayed automatically. Would a script do it? Is there anything
like this available?
The following is the page code and accompanying css. I have
not altered the js file. I apologize for not being able to provide
a link, but may be able to do so this evening.

Spry Menu Bar disappears absolute position
Hello all this is my first time posting on this site so bear with me. I have a semi-transperant spry menu bar that i inserted into the header div, over an image. I moved the menu bar -38px, when the position is set to relative the menu bar is visible, however the old position of the menu bar has a blank white space there. I think this is due to the relative position property. When i change it to absolute the whole menu bar disappears? http://www.brightlikethesun.com/index2.html (the position is back to relative to show the menu bar and also background for header is blue to show the space)

1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Date & Time won't show in Menu Bar
I just installed the latest automatic update for Leopard and now in the right hand side of the menu bar only shows the Default Folder X icon and the Spotlight icon (my bluetooth, infared, airport icons and date & time are missing).
I go to the Date & Time preferences and click the option to have it appear, but when I close that window or just switch to another tab on that same window, it resets it back to being unchecked.
I know, of course, to unlock these settings and tried locking them or leaving them unlocked in hopes it would actually "lock in" my choice of settings, but with no such luck.
If anyone knows how to get my other icons back where they belong I'd appreciate that as well.I actually don't use "Default Folder" at all, it came with Leopard.
But this problem didn't come up until the latest updates.
There was a file permissions error in running activity Monitor, though.

I am experiencing difficulty with iPhoto '11. Some of more recent photos can not be accessed. As I scroll down the page of photos, the most recent ones appear briefly, then disappear to be replaced with a box outlined by a broken-line. The menu bar says that I have 317 photos hidden. Hiding photos is not something that I normally do, can't imagine why these are hidden. Anyway, when I try to unhide the photos, I can view them as an event, but if I click on a single photo, or try to move it into an album, the photo does not display. Instead I get a dark exclamation point within a triangle. Another problem with these same photos is on the event page there is no key photo for these events only a dark screen. I can't find an answer to my problem. Has anyone experienced this? What is the problem and how can I correct it?
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Hello, I have two templates that I am using. Both have a horizontal menu bar across the top of the page and then two Vertical Spry Menu Bars down the left hand side of the page - one above the other. On one template, all menu bars are working correctly. On the other template, 2 out of three are working correctly. Not sure what's happening here. The spry menu bar that is not working correctly is under "Books & Materials" heading. The menu bar is supposed to turn green when you mouse over it, but instead everything turns white and looks like it "disappears". I have no idea why it would work on one template and not the other. Or for that matter, why it is working on one vertical spry menu bar, but not the other on the same page. Getting Date and Time to Show in the Menu Bar
I have the OS setup to set the date and time automatically and the clock set to "show date and time in the Menu Bar. I have the international set up for the Day of Week, Month, Date and Year, but the menu bar only shows "Fri X:XX:XX PM" is there any way to get it to show me Fri May XX, 2008 X:XX:XX PM"?

JohnI use iClock too. It is much more customizable than the Time & Date clock provided with the system. I have used it for several years and it has been very stable for a third-party application.
Although I have only used it for a couple of months, I also really like another third-party application you may like, to put weather conditions on the menubar called WeatherDock (freeware). It accesses Weather.com to provide the current temperature (of course) but it can include several other weather conditions (depending on how much space you have on your menubar). In addition to temperature, I have it show the weather condition (currently partly cloudy, typical in Houston), wind direction and speed (I ride a bike to the office and this tells me if I’ll be fighting it or aided), and humidity (also a Houston favorite). It will also speak the weather conditions when they change. -
Cache Cleaner ruined my menu bar, no longer able to screen shot
not sure if anyone is familiar with this application "Yosemite Cache Cleaner". i just started using it. tried out the light scan and auto restored my computer then messed my top menu bar... well its off screen i can not see the time or the wifi icon it almost looks like the other half of the menu bar is on another screen by HDMI but in this case its not. i have nothing connected to this computer but my midi controller and a pre amp (always) anyways . i have dropbox and g-drive installed i can see those but any notification that pops up i can only see half of it. so of course i contacted this company immediately. i get a response back they are asking me to "screen shot my problem" so i try to screen shot and nothing happens, my screen flashes once and then the more i tried, the more screen flashed with an error sound. can anyone please help me solve this problem?
First, delete the fake "utility," which is a scam. Caches don't need to be "cleaned."

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Menu bar does NOT appear in FULLSCREEN APPS
Hey everyone,
I recently updated to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard on release day. Although I am relatively unfamiliar with the full screen apps Lion + ML have started enabling I seem to be having an issue.
I started using fullscreen mode with Safari and noticed I lost my menu bar. I soon found that moving my cursor up to the top of the screen made the bar come back into place.
HOWEVER, about a day ago it stopped working! Is there something that has happened to stop this from working? It's quite annoying as once I'm in fullscreen mode I cannot leave it without hitting the esc button, which closes my browser down losing my websites and work I have done.
This problem also persists in other apps that I fullscreen, I merely used safari as an example because its one I would like to use most in fullscreen.
Is there any other way I can make the menubar show up again? And is there a reason moving my cursor to the stop of the screen no longer brings up the menubar?
I am running ML on Mid 2009 MBP OSX 10.8

After unintalling Air Display, dragged icon now can be dropped as expected just after reboot. Hot corner can work as expected just after reboot. Menu bar can be shown properly in full screen mode when mouse was moved to the top as expected just after reboot.
Without uninstall, the workaround is to wait for an hour for my ML to be stablized. It means that after about one hour, those problem would then be resolved automatically, but it means I cannot reboot my ML if do not want to wait. -
