Automatic update deployment

Hi,
After I have understand the manual process of creating a new deployment, and deploy it to a collection, I try to learn the automatic process.
I have create a new rule, and configured all the relevent details.
When I run it, the updates are not downloaded to my sccm.
ServerA is the server who downloads from Microsoft Update.
ServerB is my sccm server + SUP, which takes the updates from ServerA
ServerA and ServerB are in differnet domains.
There is no problem when I access from ServerB to ServerA by netbios to the updates folder (WsusContent) in ServerA
The manual process works with no error, and the updates can be installed with no problem!
I recevie the following errors:

  • Automatic Update - deployment.properties problems with JRE 1.6.0_05

    Hi!
This is a Automatic Updated daisable problem.
I have change the update policy values in the registry but still have one more problem:
I want to deploy JRE 1.6.0_05, in earlier versions ie 1.4 there has been a windows\sun\java\deployment where the initian deployment.properties file is located. But in the 1.6.X ther is no such folder and the deployment.properies file is still "copied" when you start ie "javacpl.exe" . I would like to disable the
choice "Download JRE automatically" in the javacpl.exe to "Never download..." but the initial choice when the file deployment.properties is created is "alway download..." .
Am I still save only with the registry key changes, or do I have to change the value in the deployment.properies and if so, where is the "original" copy that copies the file into C:\Document and Settings\[user]\Application data\Sun\Java\Deployment\
    kindly,
    manekin...

    Hey lynchmob,
Try these steps to correct the problem, you need to be logged in as an administrator:
    1. Go to the group policy editor. You can get they by typing gpedit.msc into the Run dialog.
    2. Navigate to computer configuration->administrative templates->windows components->internet explorer.
    3. Disable "make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user)".
    4. Login with the user account and go to Internet Options.
    5. Go to the Connection tab.
    6. Click on the Lan Settings button.
    7. You may notice that the proxy settings are not correct. Change the proxy settings to be whatever is required for your proxy.
    8. Configure Java to use browser proxy settings.
    9. Open the java console.
    10. Set debug level to 5.
    11. Press 'p' to reload proxy settings. Use the trace messages to verify correct proxy settings were loaded.

  • Some Systems Restarted Automatically after Updates Deployment with Restart Suppressed

I've searched the forum and multiple blogs - but, I'm still confused about what is causing some of our workstations to restart after applying a software updates deployment.
I deployed the Dec 2013 Patch Tuesday updates to a collection of workstations. The deployment was set to:
Not allow restarts outside of a maintenance window (box is unchecked)
Suppress restarts on workstations (box is checked).
There is no maintenance window defined for any of our workstations
On all the workstations, the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\...\WindowsUpdate\  values are:
WUServer: http address of our SCCM SUP server
WUStatusServer: http address of our SCCM SUP server
Also, the key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...\WindowsUPDATE\AU is:
UseWUServer: 1  (which I understand disables the use of the automatic Windows update service)
Some set of workstations automatically restarted shortly after 3:00 am the next morning. Clearly that's the Windows Update Agent jumping in a restarting the systems. However, I don't understand why it would do that. I really don't understand why it would
have occurred on only some of the workstations while others are still waiting for users to manually restart 36 hours later.
All of the workstations are in the same active directory OU - so the same set of GPOs applies to all.
Note: none of the registry keys were set directly in any GPOs - I assume the values were set by the SCCM client.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Automatic update rule updates won't deploy after site restore.

Ok, I have a weird problem after restoring a SCCM server. Every thing seems to be working correctly except this one thing.
This is a single server site, wsus and sql are local on the machine. Since I restored updates "deployed" by automatic update rules don't show up on client machines.
I can deploy programs and applications, operating systems, and if I select updates and manually deploy them they work.
I see no errors, the automatic update rule runs without a problem, it creates a deployment package, downloads the updates and creates the deployment but the deployment doesn't show up on clients.
Any ideas what the problem might be? So far I've tried reinstalling the software update point role, creating a new folder and share for the deployment package and reinstall the sccm client on two test machines.
    Thanks in advance,
    Freyr

This might be caused by a version mismatch of something ;-) Sorry but I can't remember exact details. I think it has something to do with a version number of the updates catalog (that's handed down to the client via policy) does not match whatever. There's
a thread here in the forums that tells about details but I cannot find it unfortunately. I'll update this thread after I found details.

  • Allow users to manage and change Automatic Update settings

    Server SBS 2011 SP 1
Couldn't find a thread that helped. Hoping to get some light on my situation.
The client has users who they'd like to have full control of their client PCs Windows Automatic Updates. The users would like to go into Control Panel and check updates at will, set times for auto updates to their liking. I haven't found the appropriate
GPO setting to allow users to change update settings.
Is that possible? Will creating an OU without a linked GPO and blocking inheritance provide the answer?
    Thanks ALL!

the dedicated SBS forums might bet better for your question (since SBS can be finicky about some settings)
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?category=sbsserver
It will likely depend upon how the implementation is currently setup (there could be various things in place, in a customised fashion).
Basically, when using GPO to deploy WUAgent settings for WSUS, the user interface for WU is disabled for the end-user - this is how classic domain GP works, and is intended to work. (i.e. if the domain admin deploys a setting, end-users are unable to change
    that)
You may be able to easily identify the relevant domain GPO that is delivering this setting, but you would (presumably) want to only change the single setting relating to AUOptions, and leave the other settings as they currently are (i.e. continue to use
WSUS to serve the update approvals and update files/patches.
Creating a new OU and not linking/inheriting, may cause other unintended effects/complexity.
(it might be the only way to achieve your goal, but analysing which GPOs are carrying which settings, and then which GPOs you *do* need to be linked/inherited, will be an important step)

  • Change Software Updates deployment priority

    Hi
    We use SCCM 2012 R2 CU2.
whenever a new client is being installed and registered it gets its policies and deployments.
our problem is that there are many software updates that being deployed and it takes a very long time until they finish their installation.
while what is more important for us is the clients to get software deployments
    before the software updates.
I know I can change packages priority but as I understand - it only changes the priority between the software packages.
is there any way to make the software deployments to be installed before the software updates for new clients?
even if there's no build-in solution, I'd be happy to get a friendly workaround.
I thought about auto-adding the clients to a software update deployment collection only after all the packages are being deployed, but maybe some of you can come up with something better
    thanks!

You can't prioritize in policy for a client. The first policy that arrives is the first that's being served..
If you're talking about the first thing after the OS deployment, then I would try to update my clients completely during the deployment already. That would solve your problem already. In that same scenario, you could also think about installing
computer or user targetted applications during the task sequence. For examples about both scenario's see:
    Computer-targeted:
    http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/post/install-computer-targeted-application-during-os-deployment-via-powershell-and-configmgr-2012/;
    User-targeted:
    http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/post/install-user-targeted-applications-during-os-deployment-via-powershell-and-configmgr-2012/.
If you're not talking about an OS deployment, your only option is indeed to add the clients later to the software update collection(s). In that case you could also try to automate it via PowerShell by using the
    Add-CMDeviceCollectionDirectMembershipRule.

  • IE 11 is not blocked during Automatic Update step.

    Greetings.
I am experiencing something very strange with our Windows Deployment Servers.
I have WDS 2013 with AIK-8.1 combination server to do our machine deployment. Some of our machines need to have IE11 blocked from installation (for compatability issue). As in case with IE10 before we installed blocker from microsoft and then captured image.
Before capturing it it was tested by runnign auto update and ie 11 is not being installed.
Problem is during deployment during automatic update step (post application) the system picks up and installs ie11.
If I remove it by hand after installation is over and run windows update - it's not installed. If I disable auto-update step in installation - and run them by hand after - it's not installed.
Does anyone else experienced this scenario when blocker doesn't seem to have effect?

    Hi,
    According to FAQ here:
Internet Explorer 11 Blocker Toolkit: Frequently Asked Questions
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/dn449234.aspx
What registry key is being used to disable delivery of Internet Explorer 10?
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\10.0
When the installation is over and about to updating, cancel the update and check the registry key.
A value of 1 turns off the automatic delivery
of Internet Explorer 11 using Automatic Updates and turns off the Express install option.
Not providing a registry key, or using a value of anything other than 1,
lets the user install Internet Explorer 11 through Automatic Updates or a manual update.

  • Programatically change automatic update settings

Is there a way to remotely modify the automatic update settings for a corporate-wide deployment of Adobe Reader? We currently push updates from management software, but have some workstations that attempt to automatically install updates. It presents the user with the window to allow it install the updates, but they do not have the authority to do so. It is simple enough to say no and they get their files, but the window pop-up generates support calls. We just need a way to push out a change to disable the automatic update for all workstations to eliminate the problem.

Does anyone know the registry key in XI? There is a 11.0 folder, but no
FeatureLockDown below it. Has it moved or do we need to create it and then
    create the bUpdater key?

  • Turn off automatic updater prior to installing Firefox.

I am about to deploy firefox to about 100 XP machines. I would like to turn off the Firefox automatic updater function prior to the install to the machine. I need to control what version of Firefox each user has.

You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new default values.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // use this to disable the byte-shift
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • Automate objects deployment (9.0.4)

I am looking for ideas how to best automate the deployment of objects, that is otherwise done manually through the Deployment Manager (Action: Create, Replace, Update, Drop, None). I see that OMBPLUS includes an OMBDEPLOY command, but haven't used OMBPLUS yet.
I suppose there is the option to generate the ddl and pl/sql code, save it to a file and then execute everything. I hope there is a better way to do this.
Does anybody have any experience with the OMBDEPLOY command?
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Julian

By using OMBPLUS you can accomplish most of the things that you would usually do through the UI. It does not generate pl/sql files but deploys directly the objects as when you use the Deployment Manager. You would use scripting usually to avoid repetitive manual (maintenance) operations from the UI.
You can take a look at the OMBPLUS guide (including the OMBDEPLOY command) by downloading it from http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/warehouse/doc/OWB904ScriptingReference.zip .

  • Windows Update Agent rebooting systems after Software Update deployment

I've read a few forum and blog posts on this issue and have implemented some settings via GPO, but the reboots are still occurring.  The settings that were applied are referenced in the link below.

  • Failed to resume automatic updates error 0x8024afff

I am running SCCM 2012 R2 with only one primary site. Windows updates seem to synchronize ok and i can manually push out updates and they install correctly. My issue happens when i try to deployed Automatic Updates for the first time. When i check the
ruleengine.log on the site server. i see that the rule doesn't find a single update to install even when i pick very simple parameters for the ADR to pick up. When i look at the updatehandler.log on the client side all i get is "Failed to resume automatic
updates error 0x8024afff" and it is unable to resume. our site only has 150 devices including servers. I'm only trying to configure an ADR for workstations. I have WSUS installed locally on the SCCM server and I am using a Remote Distribution point on
a Windows Server 2012 R2. I haven't been able to find much on this error code other than "0x8024AFFF WU_E_AU_UNEXPECTED An Automatic
Updates error not covered by another WU_E_AU * code." and no forums have been very helpful. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Here's what i get in the ruleengine.log when i start an ADR. The parameters i have set have been simple. such as choosing "security" updates when there are a few security updates that are required. I have tried to choose almost every single category minus
    products.

  • Disable automatic updates for QuickTime 7.3 on Vista

Is there any way to disable automatic updates in order to do a corporate deployment?
I've tried playing around with the preference files but no matter what I do it keeps coming up with the update checkbox checked.
From looking at the posts on this forum it looks like Apple doesn't really care about the free version of QuickTime and that's pretty sad because a lot of people use that to evaluate and then go on to purchase Pro, but I guess you don't pop up on Apple's radar until you pay up. Kind of like MS!

The easy solution, then, is either a) to boycott anything that uses QuickTime (as I do, because the player is so annoying) or b) you could uninstall the Apple Software Update program in the Control Panel in case it's doing the update nonsense and ignoring the preference inside QuickTime not to update.

  • SCCM 2012 R2: Forefront Endpoint protection via automatic updates only work when manually triggering automatic updat rule

    Hi,
I followed this manual to configure forefront endpoint protection on clients: http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/6106-using-system-center-2012-configuration-manager-part-6-adding-the-endpoint-protection-role-configure-alerts-and-custom-antimalware-policies/
Now in short: everything works fine ... as long as I trigger the audomatic deployment rules.
    Current situation:
    1. ADR ran fine (3:30 this night)
2.Software update group is NOT ok
3.I run ADR manually (right click on ADR, run)
4.software update group is ok (green icon)
Then virusupdates are succesfull. This means that clients only update their virus definitions when I manually run the ADR-rule.
    I'm missing something here.
    Please advise.
