Automatically Go to Login Window

Hi,
I am sharing my computer with someone and we each have an account. I want my account to go to the login window but not log out after a set time interval. How do I do that?

  • Automatically Login Windows System User In TestStand 3.1

I have checked the "Automatically Login Windows System User" in TestStand 3.1. However, when I re-start TestStand I still have to enter the password each time. Why is this happening? Both the username and password do exist in the Users.ini file. I am using Windows XP SP3. I have already talked to a NI support engineer and they did not have an answer. Thanks for the help.

    Hi ic2118,
Can you move the Users.ini file (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 3.1\Cfg) to a new location and restart TestStand. The file may have been corrupted and moving it out of the Cfg folder will force TestStand to create the file again.

  • How do I automatically bring up the login window?

I'd like to be able to automatically bring up the login window, or automatically fast user switch to a non password protected account.
Basically, I have a computer with an account for me and one for my wife, and I'd like one for my daughter that will have parental controls implemented. I'd like to be able to have that account become active automatically if we leave either of the adult accounts idle for a while.
I would have thought I could do this easily with Automator or Applescript, but I can't figure out how.
I can't just use the built in "all log out" function in the Security pane because I have things running in the background under my account - so my account must remain logged in.
    Any thoughts? TIA!

The easiest thing to do would probably be to turn on 'Require Password when waking from sleep' in the Security preference pane.
Then, when someone goes back to the computer, it'll show a password input screen, but if you have FUS turned on, it will also have a 'Switch User' button that will take you back to the login screen.

  • How do I get an encrypted dmg on a network share to automatically mount at login?

I need to mount an encrypted dmg that is stored on an SMB share to automatically mount at login.  I've got the SMB share to mount at login as a "Login Item," but I can't get the encrypted dmg to mount.
    A related question:
I've got a shell script that mounts my encrypted image, copies data using rsync, and then unmounts the encrypted image.  I tried automating this using a cronjob, but cronjobs are nut run as $USER.  Since the cronjob isn't run as $USER, the cronjob does not have access to the $USER's keychain and cannot authenticate to the encrypted dmg.  Any tips on getting either of these to work?

I don't use SMB so I'm not sure whether this will work, but try it. Open a TextEdit window and type something like this:
    smb://user:password@server/path-to-file
Make the obvious substitutions in the text, then select it and drag it to the Desktop. You should get a bookmark file. Double-click it to test. If it works, you can rename the file and put it anywhere you like. Add it to your login items.
If the above doesn't work, try again with "cifs" in place of "smb".
The "user:password@" part may not be necessary if the password is in your keychain.

  • How to Get the Login Window and/or Bypass Login Items?

    Greetings, folks!
This is a silly question, but the old standby of “hold down the shift key” doesn’t work in 10.6.1:
What key(s) need to be pressed to get the LogIn window and then after LogIn, to bypass LogIn Items?
    Thanks!!
    Richard Fairbanks

Not here, on a fresh (erased) install.
Pressed either before or after the initial gray Mac appears, the shift key does not access the LogIn screen. It is possible to bypass the account’s LogIn items by holding down the shift key after the LogIn screen has been called and successfully commenced, but how does one call the Login screen when the Mac is normally set up for automatic login?
It used to be the shift key . . .
    Thanks!

  • System Login Window

    Hi,
I have a VBA code that connects to an Essbase cube but whenever the login fails, it automatically opens u a system login wndow. I want to control this from the back end. Is there a way I can do this in VBA? So, basically I want to know how to suppress/disable the system login window.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brandon

    Hello,
If you are using API for essbase add-ins I suggest you to use ESSV functions and not EssMenu (which takes the default connection window)
    you can use
Declare Function EssVConnect Lib "ESSEXCLN.XLL" (ByVal sheetName As Variant, ByVal userName As Variant, ByVal password As Variant, ByVal server As Variant, ByVal application As Variant, ByVal database As Variant) As Long
This function returns 0 if connection is successful, 1 if not.
Then depending on the result of your connection you may use
Declare Function EssVRetrieve Lib "ESSEXCLN.XLL" (ByVal sheetName As Variant, ByVal Range As Variant, ByVal lockFlag As Variant) As Long
If the result is 1, then never retrieve, so you'll have never connection popup.

  • On startup of Mac Mini running OS Mavericks login windows are invisible. Login is possible but there are no white boxes for username and password. Keyboard inputs also do not display.

Mac Mini with 2 Ghz Intel Core i7 running OS X 10.9.1. Recent problem with startup screen where I get a gray startup screen that is blank and does not show the login windows for username or password. Mousing over where they should be does provide a cursor change and I can click into the invisible window and login. Also, I can just type the information and hit enter and login without problems but the keystrokes do not appear either. This is not a big problem if I make sure that I type my login information correctly, but if I make a mistake it can be difficult make sure I am in the right place before I retype. Any ideas why the screen is just gray and does not show the windows? Once I type in the login info in the invisible windows and hit enter the computer starts up, loads finder, and runs without any other noticeable problems.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • AD Radius 802.1x Login Window Connection Problems

    Mac Mini/10.10.1
I'm using two profile manager profiles for testing:
    1. AD Certificate
Installs certificate for AD Certificate Authority.
         Requests Machine Certificate from CA
    2. Network Settings
         Network Payload:
              Interface WIFI
              SSID our 802.1x SSID
              Auto Join - Checked
              Security Type - WPA / WPA2 Enterprise
Use as Login Window Config - Checked
              EAP Types: PEAP
              Use Directory Auth - Checked
    Issue:
Certificate services work fine, login window works fine. User is able to login and authenticate to wireless. However users are experiencing problems with computer sleep, roaming on network etc. I can simulate their problems by turning off air port and back on while logged in. What I'm seeing happen is that when airport is turned back on, it begins to connect to the 802.1x wireless network but does not authenticate does not receive an IP address. eventually resulting in self assigned address. If I press the connect button it will then authenticate and work as expected.
Why is it necessary to press the connect button, why does it not automatically connect? Am I doing something incorrect or is this normal behavior?
Going into network preferences, choosing wifi adapter and clicking connect is too much to expect from my users. And it would be annoying even for me if this happened every time I went offline.
    Thank you for suggestions.
    Joe

    Hi Geoffrey,
I would like to know if
EAP-TLS wireless authentication has been used since it uses user and computer certificates to authenticate wireless access clients.
Please try to use NPS wizard to configure 802.1x wireless connection,
    and
    you will find that it
creates new connection request policy and network policy. Network policy NAS Port type will be "Wireless -Other OR Wireless -IEEE 802.11".If
    you
need filter by user and computer account, the log should show both authenticate user and machine account name.

  • Login Window in a JSP /ADF Application...

    Hi ,
I test the sample demo applications located in
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_1012/j2ee/index.html
    I have a question , however....
Is it possible and 'easy' to create a login window , so as the user who types in a url in his browser ... such as :
    http://192.168.1.5:8988/bc_jsp_1-Model1Client-context-root/browse.jsp
created following the "Creating a JSP Application with ADF Using a Model 1 Architecture" application , will view different rows than another user.....according to , let's say , a flag in the table(s) used in the construction of the ADF model.....
NOTE:In the sample application "Creating a JSP Application with ADF Using a Model 1 Architecture" (found in http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_1012/j2ee/index.html) each user is logged in automatically , as the ADF model was constructed using a db user credentials...(hr in this case).
Thanks , a lot for your interest
    Simon

    Hi,
have a look at container managed J2EE security in which you protect an application's root URL. The user can either authenticate through basic authentication or a form based login screen.
If using e.g. ADF BC, set the property jbo.security.enforce property to MUST and call getPrincipal() on the ApplicationmoduleImpl.
From here you can set an application specific database context for the user to enforce VPD (Virtual Private Database).
If you have time to wait, a whitepaper about this is in teh works, probably being leased end of January

  • NIS authentication from login window issues?

    Hi,
I've a bunch of new iMacs that arrived this week, and I'm trying to get them integrated into our existing network, using NFS mounted /home and NIS for authentication, but I'm have some issues ...
NFS mounting: no problem, this works just fine, and is mounted on boot
NIS: this is where I start having issues, ypwhich shows the correct server, ypcat passwd can get the passwd from remotely and shows everything, and I can login using ssh or even sudo to an NIS user without any issues, HOWEVER, I can't login from the login window, I just get the window doing its little shake showing an authentication failure, and nothing seems to show up in the log files to indicate what the problem may be.
Anyone got any further ideas as to what to check? I have a number of older macs that are able to do this fine, just the newly arrived ones are having these problems

Did you tell the system to authenticate against NIS?
Just because you're bound to a directory server, that doesn't mean you'll automatically use that server for logins.
Check Directory Access -> Authentication and make sure your NIS configuration is listed in the directories used for authentication.
The order of entries here is important, too. They're following in a top-down fashion until the first match is found. This means that if you have a user 'joe' in the local domain, an Open Directory server and in NIS and you're checking in that order, it will authenticate the user against the local account and the Open Directory account before it checks NIS, and if the username is found in one of those two options it won't query the NIS server at all.

  • How do i turn off the gmail manager login window

the login window comes on not once but I'll get 5 or sometimes 6 different windows how do I fix this so that I get NO windows asking me for login name and password?

Is this when you (re)start Firefox?
If this is the case then it can happen if you didn't close the tabs before closing Firefox and aren't keeping the cookies, so Gmail no longer recognizes you and you are logged off from all those open tabs.
So to prevent this you need to log off from Gmail and close all open Gmail tabs.
Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Cookies if you want websites remembering you
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

  • How do i add a login window when i turn on my computer?

when i log out of my account ofcourse it goes to the login window but when i turn the computer on again another time it just logs into my account without even asking for a password so please reply

Go to the 'accounts' menu on 'System Preferences' and disable de automatic login for your user.
Next time you'll need to insert your password.
In the 'Security' menu I think there's the 'Disble automatic login' too.

  • Login window in reudced mode

is there a way to reduce the fan speeds, sleeping the display, and possibly put the disks to reduced mode while the computer is at the login window? i don't want to put it to sleep.
my reason to want this is that i want the computer to still be accessible remotely. also i want it's airport still to be shared.

All those elements happen automatically based on environment.
    reduce the fan speeds
The fan speed is based on system temperature (as the temperature rises the fans spin faster to compensate). If the machine is idle the fans will spin slower (but they won't stop).
    sleeping the display
This happens if you have the screen saver set to do so. You can also use the pmset command to control it.
possibly put the disks to reduced mode
Again, this will happen automatically if there's no disk activity for a set period if your Energy Saver prefs are set accordingly.

  • Wifi Login window isn't popping up anymore after update to 10.9 Mavericks?

I recently updated my Macbook Pro Retina 15" to 10.9 Mavericks, and since the update, the wifi login window no longer pops up as it did before. I live on a campus residence property with wifi that I have to login with my student ID and password. Before, when I opened my macbook and logged in, the wifi login window would immediately pop up, but now it doesn't pop up at all, and instead I have to manually open Safari and try to access a webpage for it to work. What gives? It's a minor inconvenience I know, but I find it annoying now that even if I only want to use an app like Calendar or iTunes, I have to open safari and click on a link in order to login instead of the window popping up automatically like it did before.
Was this removed from 10.9 altogether or was there some sort of glitch in the upgrade process?

I realize now that the app I'm talking about it the Captive Network Assistant. Something has gone wrong with its detection, as it's not popping up at all anymore. From what I've read, I'm not the only one with the issue either, it seems that after every major OS X update since the feature was introduced, it breaks for some users. I just haven't found any solutions. Anyone, please, any ideas at all?

  • Login Window clock shows incorrect time, clock time fixes itself after log in...

    Good Evening,
This morning I turned on my MacBook Pro and while I was typing my password to log in, I noticed that the time in the login window clock had a wrong setting. The time displayed was 4 hours delayed in relation to my time zone. However, after logging into my user account I looked and the menu bar and when the clock got displayed, the correct time of my time zone appeared.
I don't know what could have caused this issue. The only thing I know is that yesterday evening, I was using my MacBook Pro with Windows 7 via Bootcamp and used it for a prolonged time (about 5 hours), and then shutdown the computer and did not touch the computer until this morning. Could these issues be related? I know OS X and Windows measure their times differently because the former OS calculates time in relation to UTC and the latter OS calculates the time using the actual zone you have specified in the time settings.
Other than that the issue has not manifested itself again since this morning but I haven't booted into Windows just yet.
    Thanks for your time!

Make sure the time and date are correct.
Open System Preferences > Date & Time then select the Date & Time tab.
Select:   Set date and time automatically
Then select the Time Zone tab.
Select:  Set time zone automatically using current location
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Click Go then move the coml.apple.systemuiserver.plist file to the Trash.
Then restart your Mac and check the time ...
