Automatically mount an ftp drive on the finder at startup?

Is there any way to automatically mount an ftp drive on the finder at startup?  I would like to use this to a centralized and controlled way for company staff to access and download files while outside the company.

thanks for the suggestion.  Not sure what you mean by network volume?
Most of the time I access the ftp using Transmit.  It will mount the disk to the finder, however only for the duration that the computer is running.  Likewise the ftp disk can be dragged to the login items, however will not open or connect following a restart.
I have tried Automator, set up a small app in the startup items, and viola, it works like a charm.  Transmit opens automatically, mounts the ftp disk and then transmit shuts down.  Great.
Now is there any way that this can be set up on a LION server, so that the ftp mounts, and then can be shared for access to clients on the company's local network?  Staff could then upload files that they would like to have available on mobile devices.

  • Automatically mount a network drive upon login

    Hi All,
    Can anyone help!
I want to automatically mount a network drive when a network user logs in.
    Client OSX10.4.9
    Network drive/share is samba based.
Network user is LDAP based (Novell eDirectory)
I currently have the following working:
An eDirectory (LDAPv3) user logs in & authenticates ok.
Mounting the network drive/share works ok MANUALY, with the following
    smb://IPorDNS
user is then prompted for their password (I want this automated @ login preferably)
What I need is some help automating this smb mounting @ login time using the users ldap Username/Password. I guess this would need to be done using an Applescript of sorts, but I'm stuck as to how to take this forward..!
    cifs://workgroup;Username:Password@IPorDNS/profile
The above works manually, but how do I go about swapping the Username:Password for environment variables, and then packaging this into a script/application that runs during login..???
    TIA

    Hi Matt,
Yes that would work for a single user that wants the same mount everytime but not for multiple network users, as the path changes for each user...
    e.g.
    /networkserver/usersarea/user1
    /networkserver/usersarea/user2
    /networkserver/usersarea/user3
    etc
I think I need something like Actioscript apps to run during the login process...
    TIA

Check Finderr->Preferences->General and ensure that HDs are selected for display. If so and they still don't, Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, and see if that does the trick.

  • How can I mount an SMB share in the Finder? (Leopard)

In Tiger, I was able to mount a SMB share in the finder and it would be displayed under the "Devices" section. With Leopard, I cant get this to work. Leopard is much easier to browse network shares on my Windows machine under the "Shared" section, but I would still like to have certain folder mounted all the time, preferably on startup.

Works perfectly for me, so let me make sure we're on the same page.
I mount the volume manually, using Connect to Server.
I drag the volume, now appearing in Computer and on the Desktop, to the Devices section of the Sidebar.
I eject the volume, and it disappears from the Sidebar.
I mount the volume again (it could be by browsing for it, through Connect to Server, or through an Automount Maker document)
It appears, without my having to do anything, in the Sidebar.
As far as I can tell, this is what you were aiming for. Am I missing something?

  • Time Machine won't mount Firewire 800 drive after restart / Finder crashes

I've been having problems with Finder crashes. I first suspected Spotlight might be the problem because sometimes when I started typing a search, it would display the first 3 characters and then lock up. I could force quit the Finder, but it wouldn't relaunch and required the computer to be shutdown and restarted with the power button. Once restarted, I had no keyboard and no mouse click (the mouse would move across the screen but I could not click on anything). After waiting several minutes (3-5) the mouse and keyboard worked properly.
After some research suggested the Spotlight index might be corrupt, I forced Spotlight to rebuild the index (add the drive to the exclude list under "Privacy" and then remove it from the list) and then repaired disk permissions. After that Spotlight was noticeably snappier and I thought my Finder crashes had been solved until........
Part 2: I have been using Time Machine (connected to a Fantom GreenDrive via Firewire 800) for several months now and ever since the beginning, I have noticed that the drive will NOT mount after a restart. I must turn the drive off and back on again to get it to mount. After that Time Machine picks it up and seems to work fine.....well, that is until this Finder crashing thing started several weeks ago. Anyway, I inadvertently set up an experiment last weekend when I installed some software update and forgot to remount the Time Machine drive after the restart. That was last Sunday night. The computer did not crash all week long. I thought my Spotlight fix had finally solved my problems, but now it seems I was wrong. This morning (Saturday, six days later), I noticed my Time Machine drive was not mounted. I mounted it, told Time Machine to "Back Up Now" and went away for a few hours. When I came back the Finder was locked up.
So guess my question is this: Are there any know problems with using Firewire 800 with Time Machine? and What can I do to fix this? In the meantime I'm trying another experiment - I've disconnect the Firewire 800 connection and replaced it with USB.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Not in general. Some drives don't always wake or "spin up" fast enough; often that's seen when the system wakes from sleep, though, not so much after a system Restart. Many Western Digitals do that; I don't recall seeing any posts here about yours, but you might want to search the forums for Fantom

Good plan - that may provide a clue.
Also, check with the maker -- there may be a firmware or driver update.
And try verifying your internal HD, and repairing your backups, per #A5 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). Either might cause that.

  • Mounted local NFS drives take down Finder after move out of network

    Hello,
This is a basic scenario that happens to me often. At home, I mount several NFS drives from my linux server. They work fine. If i close my MBP, don't shutdown, and take it with me to a new location outside of my local network, I still see my NFS drives mounted. After a while, I will get a prompt saying that those drives are no longer available, or some such language.
However, if I try and unmount them from the finder or try and access those drives, the is Finder done for, and all computer functions for that matter, like volume, brightness.
I have left it that way for up a half-hour before hard re-starting.
I know I should unmount the drives before I take the computer with me, but honestly, I will continue to forget.
Is there a way to avoid this, like setting a timeout of a 1 minute or so, if the drive is not available?
    Thanks for your time,

  • How do I get iCloud Drive in the Finder window?

I have just installed Yosemite on my early 2009 iMac and want to use iCloud drive.  I have been using iCloud up till now and have an iPhone 5 running iOS 8 with iCloud drive enabled and an iPad 3 also running iOS8 with iCloud drive enabled. I have upgraded my allowance to 20GB on the iMac by going to System preferences>iCloud>manage.... and upgraded my plan. I have logged on to the web version of iCloud and added a new folder. I have uploaded some files from my finder window to the new folder in the web application. However, I don't have an iCloud drive folder in Finder on my iMac. I have a Google drive and a Drop box which act like local folders, and I assume that iCloud drive would act in the same way, allowing me save or move files directly into iCloud drive without having to use a web application. Does anybody have a missing iCloud drive on their finder page or know how to install the drive?

    Hi,
Go to Finder > Then click Finder on the top left corner next to the Apple Logo > Preferences > Sidebar > Tick the iCloud Drive. And the folder will be there.
    Hope that helps

  • How to mount a sharepoint server from the finder

Can anyone help me with how to mount a microsoft sharepoint services server from the finder. I need to do this because I want to use the collaboration features in Acrobat 8. In order to create a shared review I need to be able to open the document from the sharepoint site with the full version of acrobat and I cannot do that from the web browser. From a PC I would choose to add a network location and the wizard creates a network location in the explorer, then I can access the sharepoint site (across the internet) like another file folder on my local network. I cannot seem to figure out how to accomplish the same thing on the mac. When I put in the URL for the share point site in the connect dialog from the finder it opens a webdave dialog box asking for a domain name and I have no idea what that is and it tells me the password or user name is not correct. Any help would be appreciated

You might want to pose this question in the networking forum too.

  • Network drives in the finder window

In the sidebar of any finder window under the "Shared" area that list the volumes that my laptop can access. Can someone please explain why I can see my network drives as servers with IP address and as sharepoints with the name that I've given the drives? Example:
    192.168.1.22
    Bkupstarbase
These two items are the same unit. Up until recently I was also able to see my Maxtor drive the same way (as IP address and as its name, Starfleet). Now I only get Starfleet and I can not get it to mount as an IP address. For awhile I was getting lots of errors saying that the drive could not mount, and I would get "Starfleet" but not the IP address. I removed the Quickstart SW from my computer and that seems to have stopped the errors (and maybe the IP address too?). Seem I can access the unit with out problems but I'm wonder why OS10.5 is doing this new way of seeing the drives. Anyone that can help me understand, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
    DMW
Also, how does one get pictures into these messages? I've copied some things with grab but I can't figure out how to get them in here. Thanks

I think Finder thinks that anything in the Sidebar is mounted. A Dock icon or alias might work.

  • Thunar mounting/unmounting NTFS drive in the side pane.

    Hey ,
Could someone help me to set up Thunar to be able to mount/unmount & browse my NFTS drive "/dev/sda1" "/mnt/HDD" in the side pane?
    Like this:
I already have a link to it in the side pane:
    But...
I'd prefer to set it up properly, I've searched google and the bbs but couldn't find any info's on this.
    Thanks

    terminal:
    *diskutil unmount /Volumes/"diskname"*
    apple script:
    tell application "Finder"
    eject disk "diskname"
    end tell
Keep the quotation marks in the above.
Mounting a disk is trickier because you need to know the mountpoint.
First, when the disk is mounted enter the following terminal command:
    df
this will list all mounted devices.
locate the line with your disk and read off the first column. It should look something like
    /dev/disk2s2
Unmount the disk. To mount it run
    *diskutil mount /dev/disk2s2*

  • Can I use Applescript or Automator to automatically eject my external drive before the battery dies?

Whenever I leave my macbook unplugged with my external hard-drive plugged in and the battery power runs out, my computer "dies" and my external hard-drive is not ejected properly, sending me a warning that data may be lost if not ejected properly. This has happened on several occasions.
Is it possible to program my external hard-drive to eject itself when my computer is running low on battery power so I do not have to worry about losing data from being ejected misproperly?
    My system specs:
      Model Name:          MacBook
      Model Identifier:          MacBook1,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          2 MB
      Memory:          2 GB
      Bus Speed:          667 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MB11.0061.B03
      SMC Version (system):          1.4f12
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled
I'm using a WD Passport 250 GB notebook external hard-drive.
Note: I use my external for time machine as well as for storing my entire iTunes library to free space on my macbook.

Alright, after trying stuff for some irritating hours, I think I've got something you can use. I haven't figured out how to get it to run all the time.
(I must be an idiot becuase I can't find where to upload this file)
    Automator application
Run Shell Script (ignore this actions input)
    ioreg -n AppleSmartBattery -r | awk '$1~/Capacity/{c[$1]=$3} END{OFMT="%.2f%"; max=c["\"MaxCapacity\""]; print (max>0? 100*c["\"CurrentCapacity\""]/max: "?")}'
    Set Value of Variable
Variable: new variable... (I called it Battery Life)
    Run AppleScript
    on run {input, parameters}
if input is less than "3.00" then tell application "Finder" to eject (every disk whose ejectable is true and local volume is true)
              return input
    end run

  • When transferring volumes to a new drive, is a cloning app better than the finder?

When transferring volumes to a new drive, is a cloning app better than the finder?
I’m adding a new (bigger) external hard drive.  I have created five partions on it as the old drive has.  Is it, better, faster, more accurate, etc. to use an app, or just drag and drop the folders on to the new partitions.  The sofware I have are; TechTool6, Drive Genius3 & SuperDuper.  Two of the partitons have a Mac OS on them.  The others just have files.
    Thanks,
    Larry

If the drive is to be functional as a boot drive then cloning is the better approach as it will grab all hidden configuration files and preserve the file access permissions properly; however, if you are setting up a data drive then the Finder's copy options should be adequate. To ensure file permissions are properly attributed to the copied files, select them and press Command-C to copy, followed by Shift-Option-Command-V to paste the items in the new location and preserve their file attributes (you may need to authenticate when copying them in this manner). If you do not need to preserve permissions then a basic drag-and-drop copy should suffice.

  • Home Network and accessing all hard drives on the network

In 10.4, when connecting to another computer on my network, I was able to connect to any disk drive that was connected to any computer on my network. With 10.5, it seems I cannot do that. All I seem to be able to connect to is the home account (in my case, frankmlinar). Did something change or is there a setting I do not know about?
One of the reasons I ask is that I serve my own web site, which is located at .../library/WebServer on one of my computers. I want to be able to access the files from wherever I am. I also like access to all files at any time without running all over the place.

It sounds like you are logged in as Guest (which only has access to each users home directory and drop box). If your navigating to the server via Shared in the sidebar, it should say the name of the user you are logged into that server as. It defaults to Guest. If it is Guest, click the Connect As button and log in as the desired user. You should then be able to see the share points (hard drives etc) you expected.
    {quote:title=frankmlinar wrote:}My definition of persistent for use below is: When logged on as a registered user, the computer remains logged on and does not revert to Guest when clicking on various computers or drives in the finder and then returning to the logged on computer in the finder.{quote}
So this is the behavior you want. Correct? You want to only log in once and not have it revert back to being logged in as Guest if you navigate somewhere else and then back again? Correct
So, what you are seeing is this:
Step 1) Click on the server in the sidebar. It automatically, by default, logs you in as Guest.
Step 2) Click on the Connect As button and an Authentication dialog will appear. Login as another user (say Bob).
Note: You should be able to see the share points with no problem.
Step 3) Click on the "Desktop" entry in the sidebar
Step 4) Click on the same server as in Step 1 in the sidebar
Expected results: It will log you in as Bob.
Actual results: It will log you in as Guest.
This is behaving correctly (and is how AFP works). If you want it to remain logged in as Bob after Step 4, either create a keychain via the authentication dialog in Step 2 or before Step 3 you double clicked one of the hard drives listed for that server (or single clicked if your in Column View) to mount it.
Just logging in to an AFP server creates a temporary/soft connection with the server, you have to mount something to make it a solid connection.

  • Connect to multiple drives in the same directory?

Please pardon me for not using correct terminology. I cannot mount (map) two drives in the same directory. I use "Go >Connect to Server >smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory/folder1" and the folder1 icon pops up on my desktop. Then if I use the same structure with /~directory/folder2, the Finder window opens to the same folder1 I originally mounted. I have to disconnect from the first before I can successfully mount the second. Since I sometimes need to work on documents in both simultaneously, it is VERY inconvenient. Is there a solution, and is it on my machine or do I need to bug our techies (again)??

No. In the Go >Connect to Server dialog they show as:
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory/folder1
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory/folder2
I have access also to another directory:
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory2/folder1
    smb://fs.domain.edu/~directory2/folder2
And can simultaneously mount a drive in that directory with a drive in the other directory, but cannot simultaneously mount two drives in the same directory.

  • [solved] automatically mount crypted partitions

    Hey!
I have an encrypted partition on my extern esata drive. I'd like it is automatically mount it on plugging in the drive.
For that I have found an tutorial (unfortunately in German) about how to do it with udev:
    http://michael.stapelberg.de/Artikel/au … setup_udev
But I'm using systemd, so this do not work this way.
Can anybody explain me, how it will be done with systemd? I have to write a systemd unit file, haven't I?
Thank you very much for some advices?

I have solved it. Thank you Mr.Elendig!
For running more than one command in your udev rules, it is necessary to execute them in a bash script and connect them with &&.
