Automating some repetitive tasks

Hello, I'm looking for an Acrobat plug-in or script that will allow me automate _some_ of the repetitive tasks that I do.
For multi-sheet document, I need to:
1) extract each page as separate file with each open in its own window
2) crop image
3) close window
4) dialog will prompt me to enter filename for it (Note: default filename will usually start with the text "Pages from ... ")
5) repeat until end.
I'd like to automate step 1, 3 (maybe?), and 5, while I manually specify the crop boundary (2) and type in its filename (4).
Thanks,
Devin

Yep, I'll be testing this thoroughly!
But if it passes all my rigorous tests :D then that's one big issue taken care of and I believe a good enhancement to anyone's Apex skills.
I'll report back with my findings!
Edit: the export looks fine to my untrained eye, so maybe I'll try it out with my application (so far I only tested on my laptop test Apex installation)
Haven't tested the text messages script yet, just the application items, but I figure it should be no different.

  • About shell scripts for large-scale automation of  encoding tasks

    in the user menu of Compressor, it said that we can use the command line to write shell scripts for large-scale automation of encoding tasks.
    I would like to have more information about the shell script for compressor, is that any document link?
    Thanks

    You can use a script function to set-up a more secure environment that you call at the start of every admin script. This could be your main stamp album for stuff that can be moved there.
    A few more stamps to add to the collection (be sure to read up on them before use):
    1) reset the command hash
    hash -r
    2) prevent core dumps
    ulimit -H -c0
    3) set the IFS
    4) clear all aliases  (see unalias -a)
    Also you can remove the ALL from sudo and add explicit commands to the the sudoers file. There's a lot of fine tuning you can do in sudoers - inc. env variables as teekay said.
    But I'm no expert so best to check all of the above.

  • Error:com.mslv.oms.automation.AutomationException: Incorrect Task Mnemonic

    The following error message is logged to the OSM server log during executing the OSM orders.
    com.mslv.oms.automation.AutomationException: Incorrect Task Mnemonic.
    This issue occurs in case of building with "BUILD_DEPLOY_MODE=optimized", sending after deploying the cartridge, and then executing the task first time.
    I have the below questions.
    1. What causes this error?
    2. How can we avoid this error?
    Can anyone has any idea as why and what causes this error.

    Hi any solution on this.
    We are using O2A 7.0.3 cartridges and design studio 7.2 and getting below error for order which are created on 'SIFallout'.
    But I think it is nothing related to optimized build and deploy because other cartridges are working fine.
    Below is the error that I can see when OSM received fallout notification from AIA.Order is created on SIfallout cartridge but failed in task 'GetFulfillment Order Task'.

  • Inspection of method calls to perfom some additional task.

    Consider the following scenarion:
    ClassA.meth(),
    ClassB.meth(),
    ClassC.meth().
    ClassA.meth() is called by both ClassB.meth() and ClassC.meth() seperately to perform some piece of work.
    Now, inside ClassA.meth(), is it possible for me to check, rather inspect, which is the caller method and based on the same do some additional task based on the caller's route.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~Vaibhav

    Thanks For the Prompt reply.
    This is just a thought that crossed my mind.
    Well inspecting the stack will give me the details of the Class currently loaded on the stack..
    But, is it possible to point out which method in the loaded class called the method.
    I mean is it possible to inspect the call's route exactly.
    I am sure it should be, but i am not able to find it how to implement this using java code.
    Any pointers..

  • Any Ideas for Automating Repetitive Tasks in AA3?

    I could really use some help if anyone has an idea.
    Many of the jobs I do monthly involve slicing up one or more audio files and saving the slices to their own folder with unique file names. There are SSOOOO many little things that have to be done to EVERY file (hundreds sometimes). Here's an example:
    I have a 20-minute audio file of a voice-over actor saying certain words or phrases. The finished product will consist of, say, 15 separate small files, each with a different file name. The VO actor provides multiple "takes" for each word/phrase. I pick the best versions of each take and create a file for it.
    *Current Process*:
    1. Listen to the original file, marking "keeper" regions as I go.
    2. Open the Marker List window
    3. Label each of the 15 phrase regions with their appropriate file names.
    4. Select all the markers and batch-save them, using the label as the file name.
    I have shortened the process a little by Auto-Marking the entire file first, then auditioning each marker, deleting those not needed as I go. But the process of clicking on each marker region and typing a name in the label box takes forever...especially when I'm dealing with hundreds of finished files.
    On the jobs where the "output" files are the same for every project, is there not some way to automate, macro, or otherwise reduce the total amount of busy (non-value-added) work involved in something like this?
    Any ideas would help.
    Thanks!
    Happy New Year!!
    Ken

    John,
    Thank you, thank you, thank you! In learning how to use the REN and batch processes in XP, I also discovered some more stuff I could do in AA's Marker window and the batch process button at the bottom of it. I feel kinda dumb that I didn't know about it all along. Oh well. Since I was going to need the final sound clips to be in a certain sequence, I just unchecked the "use label as filename" box, and all the marker phrases were saved in the order they appeared in the file. Nice! Now my 116 final marked phrases appeared as: "001.wav, 002.wav-->116.wav." Then all I had to do was make a batch script to create the list of file names, and paste those into a column in Excel. Then in the next column over I entered the name of all the final file names. Those will always be the same. Then with a 3rd column of "REN" next to the other 2, I just copy, paste into Notepad, save as ".bat," and double-click the file! All that saved about 4 hours off of about a 6-hour job!
    Runaway, to answer your question...I never see a "Save As" dialog box! Once I Auto-Mark the big file, I don't really spend much time even looking at the Edit window. I just go down the list in the Marker window, audition each marked phrase, delete until I'm left with the 116 I want, then use the "batch process" button at the bottom to do what I mentioned above.
    Wicked!
    Thanks a lot guys. This has been an amazing help.
    Now if I could just figure out why AA makes it so hard to sequentially listen to phrases one-by-one. You have to double-click each one before you can hear it. Then if you delete one, inexplicably the cursor jumps way up the list so you have to scroll back down to where you were. Once I had all the files saved into a folder, I QC'd them in Reaper and MAN what a difference! All I had to do was use the "down" arrow to advance to the next file AND have it play. I literally took me 5 minutes to check all 116 files that way. If AA could add that kind of functionality I would REALLY be happy.
    Oh well. ONe thing at a time, I guess. I may post about that last thing on its own.
    Thanks again! Hapy New Year!

  • Some Outlook tasks only showing up in Outlook Web App, even if they were entered in Outlook 2013 or on the iOS email client.

    A user creates tasks in Outlook 2013, his Exchange email account on his iPhone and in the Outlook Web App (Not Outlook.com). A small number of these tasks will only show up in the Outlook Web App, though, no matter which platform he entered the
    task from. He can enter a task in Outlook 2013 and it might not show up on the task list in Outlook 2013 or IOS after that, but WILL show up in the outlook Web App task list.
    At first I thought sorting was the issue, but we compared all tasks in both Outlook 2013 and OWA, sorted by due date, and, sure enough, some were missing from 2013.
    What I am not sure of:
    If/how long a task will be visible on the platform it was submitted before it begins only appearing in OWA.
    How long ago this started
    I couldn't find this issue in the community or with a quick google search.
    I am going to see when he is available to sit down and go through tasks to see if there is a pattern and try replicate it so I can see how long it might be available on the submitting platform before disappearing.
    I can provide any other info needed. Thoughts on this issue?

    Hi,
    I would suggest you reset the view if you found some tasks in Outlook missing.
    VIEW tab -> Reset View.
    Or we can simply start Outlook with the switch "/cleanviews"(Restores default views. All custom views that you created are lost):
    Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /cleanviews” in the blank box, then press Enter.
    Check if this helps you find the missing tasks.
    Thanks,

  • Repetitive tasks in Final Cut Pro 4.5

    i am working on a series of projects that involve making what ar basically picture slideshows. i alternate between a picture and a transition i randomly pick out of the lists. is there any way for me to automate the task of manually inserting 150 pictures and transitions? QuicKeys? i know fcp does not support applescript (if only!). i have looked at traffic, but, being a student, it is out of my range currently, and i dont do these super-repetitive projects often.
    thanks.

  • Using Automator for scheduled tasks for my media folder.

    Anyone with automator experience that are able to help me set up a scheduled task for my media folder, using for example iCal?
    I have 2 programs for cleaning and adding metadata for my media folder:
    iFlicks and iDentify.
    And I want them to scheduled clean new files in my folder. iFlicks first, and iDentify next.
    Complicated? Doable?

    If you are not too keen on running those commands you might want to try http://www.igetter.net/iGetter.html This download manager seems to allow the scheduled downloading that you need. I think you would have to go to the Apple site and find the url for the standalone updaters to find the link after Software Update identifies them. Then use this program to schedule the downloads. Sometimes those seem more stable anyway.
    The program us shareware. It appears from the description that the program remains fully functional but puts up a nag screen if the program has not been registered.

  • Repetitive task setup - Any shortcuts for Multiple Slideshow Advance on click?

    I have to create 20 pages that all have the same set up: 4 multi state objects, with 4 states each. On top of each MSO is a button that advances the slideshow to the next state. Are there any shortcuts, or any way to automate parts of the set up? Or do I have to create every state of every MSO from scratch?

    I think some form of automation would be good as I have asked for something similar regarding snippets, but the dps team have not really answered this question directly,maybe something could be forth coming in the next release.

  • Performing some common tasks with LR is just... a joke

    I'm a big fan of Lightroom, I use it as my main workflow application, I even wrote detailled reviews on some european websites, etc...
    But I can't get some of its basic features. Using LR as an image viewer and e-mailing is really a joke.
    Preparing and converting 10 CR2 files to 1024 x 768 @ 90 % quality for e-mail takes about 2 - 2 1/2 minutes on my machine.
    Doing the same thing ( plus adding frame and shadow ! ) with Faststone Viewer - which is free - takes exactly 10 seconds, yes, 10 seconds on the same machine.
    Don't get me wrong, LR is probably the best thing released for photographers since a while but, for some parts of it, I just don't get it.
    I wish I could perform basic & common tasks within Lightroom, which is simply not possible.
    Gilles.

    Back to the original subject.
    Yes, I know that LR has to render pictures and Faststone uses only embedded previews from raw file. But I think most of you didn't get what I try to explain. Let's start again :
    - Faststone is very fast at preparing attachments for e-mails, from ANY type of image files ( raw, TIFF, JPEG, whatever ).
    - Faststone does the same with edited images, quick and easy ( so the comments about the embedded raw files which helps Faststone to create quick attachments have no value, not at all ).
    - Faststone resizes on the fly, including batch images, and has a scroll menu to select standard sizes ( 1024 x 768, 800 x 600, etc... ).
    - Faststone always let you know the dimensions AND the size of the output file. With Lightroom, while using the JPEG compression slider, you have to guess the file size and expect it not to be too heavy.
    - Faststone knows your default email client. Lightroom doesn't.Lightroom requires to put shortcuts in folders, bla-bla-bla... or to install an extra program - GREAT.
    Why are those common sense stuff and functions not part of Lightroom ? Having to guess the output size of my jpeg files just goes beyond me. In my company, the max attachment size is 5 MB. With faststone, I can easily control that. With Lightroom, not at all.I guess that, in 2007, emailing is still a major communication system.
    Now coming back to thumbnails viewing : I want to have the same speed and ease of use as BreezeBrowser of Faststone. Period.
    Gilles.

  • Easing the Pain of Repetitive Tasks in WCS

    Hey All -
    I normally use a custom scripted process to pre-configure all of my APs (name, location, controller IPs, channel, power, etc.).  But on occasion the names change following construction, planning, etc.  So I have been in WCS changing the names of a few APs.  I use the search bar to find my APs by name (they're prefixed with a building name identifier).  Then I choose the Configure List.  I finally sort that by AP name ascending.  The problem comes when you click on the first AP you want to change and it takes you to the AP configuration page in the same window.  Now you've essentially lost that custom list you searched for.  It would be better if such windows opened in a new one or a tab so that when we're done editing we simply close it, and I've forwarded that request to the folks at Cisco.  In the mean time, here's my workaround:
    Go through the normal procedure for getting that custom list.  Now right click on the column header you want to sort by and select 'Copy Link Location'.  The page uses GET variables to send the request to WCS for what information to display.  So after you've made your changes and saved them, you could either do the sloppy 'BACK BACK' in your browser's history, or just simply paste your url back into the location bar and voila!  Your custom search has returned, showing your updated information.
    Rinse.
    Repeat.
    Here is my custom url for searching all APs that are in the building 'MS', show ALL results (i.e. 999999), and only show me the 2.4 GHz ones (802_11b).  BTW, why does the config list return all APs and list each one twice by 2.4 and 5 GHz when clicking either link takes you to the same page?  That's why I filter my results by just the 2.4 radios to take out our duplicates for this task.
    My url:
    https://x.x.x.x/webacs/searchLradIfAction.do?
    orderByColumn=lradIfName&
    isAscending=true&
    itemsPerPage=999999999&
    pager.offset=0&&
    searchApType=lradName&
    severity=0&
    timeInterval=-1&
    searchRadioType=802_11b&
    apText=MS&
    deviceIpAddress=x.x.x.x&
    campusKey=606&
    buildingKey=&
    outdoorKey=&
    operation=configList&
    operation=configList&
    wcsAddress=&
    support11n=false&
    siCapable=false&
    siEnabled=false&
    searchType=All&
    searchText=&
    isQuickSearch=false&
    controllerIpForName=x.x.x.x&
    searchApByType=LWAPP&
    searchByApMode=0&
    officeExtendAp=false
    Normally this is without line returns, but I am displaying it this way so that you can see what each of the GET parameters are.  Try creating different searches to learn what each of the parameters are.  For example, for 'searchByApMode' you see the value of '0'.  This corresponds to 'local' in the list of AP modes.  Incrementing by 1 will get you the next and so on.  I think a couple are typos on Cisco's part, unfortunately.  The parameters 'siCapable' and 'siEnabled' as you can guess really should be 'isCapable' and 'isEnabled'.  I also don't know why 'operation=configList' is in there twice, nor do I know why 'pager.offset=0' is followed by two ampersands.  Usually arguments are separated by just one each.
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Scott

    This is a great time saver! Thanks Scott!

  • Setting "automator" for a task

    hello, i'm not sure if it's a software bug or what but it seems this issue is still going on. my volume reverts back to internal speakers when awaking from sleep even though line out is selected. i go into prefs and select line in, then line out and i have volume on my external speakers.
    can i have automator do this for me when awaking from sleep? i've never used automator before so i'm a newbie.
    thx

    I have a similar problem with my new Mac Pro. I thought that it might be an issue with either Snow Leopard, which I hadn't had before, or with the Mac Pro. I thought I had found the problem: that I was using the old Apple sphere speakers that get their power via FireWire. Since this computer has no FW400 ports, I have the speakers' FW plugged into an external drive. Prior to this I had an iMac with FW400 ports. So I thought that it wasn't being recognized by the Sound Preferences as being plugged in upon startup since the drive starts just a hair after the computer. My solution was to do an Automator workflow for iCal since my computer is scheduled to come on at the same time every day. I scheduled the iCal script to run a few minutes after scheduled startup.
    There were a couple of things to figure out there I tried doing it all with the Watch Me Do. Unfortunately, it always screwed up which menu item to choose when I used a drop down menu to open System Preferences. I solved that by using the Launch Application command, and chose System Preferences. Then I recorded the rest of the actions, and that worked.
    My only problem now is that every time I restart or startup the computer manually, the Sound Pref reverts back to Internal Speakers. It seems to be fine awaking from sleep. The selection of Line Out is retained.
    I was an old QuicKeys user, and with that, you were able to set conditions like upon startup, upon waking up, and that sort of thing. I don't see that in Automator. I saw recently that QuicKeys is available for OS X now. I may check that out. The old versions worked great.

  • Automation of HFM Task Flow

    Hi,
    I am trying to automate the the task flows that we are using to consolidate and other tasks. My requirement is to automate them and schedule them as per the completion of the database load. So basically, I need to trigger my task flows after the completion of the event rather than kicking them off at a particulaar time.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Edited by: 902809 on 16-Dec-2011 03:50

    Thanks Charles,
    I found the document but what is mentioned in the document is the normla functionality of the task flows. That is I can automate a task ( like consolidate, calculate etc) but can only initiate a task at a particular time. I need to kick off/trigger the task based on a succeesful completion of a event ( like data load from the source or FDM load etc ). I am not able to find anything on that.
    Thanks,

  • Repetitive task help - adding logo and bumpers to 50+ sequences

    Is there any way to add graphic and video elements to multiple sequences, and then export? The only way I've been able to add logos and pre-roll and post-roll bumpers is by manually adding them to each sequence. I don't have Shake or any other expensive software (besides FCP), just automator, applescript, etc.
    Please help. I don't want to get carpal tunnel.

    I'm guessing the sequences are already cut...?
    One solution would be to set up a sequence (template) with your pre/post bumpers and logo(s), then drag each sequence from the browser, into the template timeline, rename that sequence and put it in a dedicated folder in the browser for a Batch Export.
    For the Batch Export select your dedicated bin in the browser, (or all the sequences in the browser you want to export if they're listed individually), then control-click on them and select 'batch export' (you can do this from the "File" menu as well.
    Check the buttons at the bottom of the batch export interface for the settings/destinations you want.
