Automator (or anything) to mass transfer one file at a time, or skip over corrupted files?

I'm currently recovering files (using Disk Warrior) from a failing hard drive, but when OS X hits a corrupted file ("Error -36"), it cancels the entire transfer, rather than skipping over it.  Basically, I have to transfer one file at a time, which, on a 2TB hard drive, is going to be insanely tedious, so I was wondering if there's an automation that can transfer one file at a time, or some other way to transfer files that won't stop mid-process?

in my experience, people who know enough unix to understand what you suggested rarely ask questions about automator.  Auto-mechanics don't generally need advice on choosing an auto repair shop.
Applescript is probably the easiest way to go with this.  I don't know what the file structure of the recovered documents is, but in general you'd run something like this:
set sourceFolderPath to "/path/to/recovered items folder/"
set destinationFolderPath to "/path/to/destination folder/"
tell application "System Events"
          set theFiles to files of folder sourceFolderPath
          repeat with thisFile in theFiles
                    try
  -- move files one-by-one in an error block
                              move thisFile to folder sourceFolderPath
                    on error
  -- you can put something here to log the skipped files or display a dialog, if you like
                    end try
          end repeat
end tell

  • Writing multiple arrays to a single xml file at seperate times without overwriting the previous file?

    Hi my name is Dustin,
    I am new to labview and teststand... I am trying to right multiple arrays of data to a single xml file. I can do this with a cluster but I have to create a variable for each of those arrays (21 arrays) and I was hoping to use the same variable for each array. Meaning I obtain my array of data write it to an xml file then replace that array in that variable with a new array and then call up my VI that writes that array to an xml file and write it to the same xml file underneath the first array without overwriting it. Attached is my VI I created to write an array to an xml file. Again I am wondering if there is a way to write multiple arrays to a single xml file at different times without overwriting the previous xml file.
    Thanks

  • Downloaded song skips - possibly corrupted file?

    Over the last 3 months I have downloaded 718 songs from ITunes without any problem. The last one I downloaded, however, audibly skips and jumps at one point in the file as if a record had been scratched (or portions of the digital file missing...)
    Exactly 7:26 minutes into the 3rd Movement of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto the file is bad and then at 8:05 it resumes playing again without any problem. The rest of the albumn is fine - just those thirty seconds or so... Maybe it's a bad download maybe the music file itself is bad.
    If I'd purchased a CD at the music store I'd take it back and get another copy or a refund. Does anyone know who I can address this issue to?
    I am using a Mac computer with OS X. This is the recording made by Antoni Wit, Jerzy Salwarowski, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra & Vadim Brodsky.

    Contact the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of this web page and explain the problem to them. They'll probably refund your money and instruct you to try again in a couple of weeks when they've had a chance to get a new copy of the track from the record company.

  • .ipa file has 100 times of the the original file size

    For the last 1 1/2 years I've been working on a digital songbook. Each article has audio files (2mb), overlays, pdf scores and html content.
    With DPS App Builder I finally made the distribution app (.zip) and the developer app (.ipa) which I couldn't download, because the .ipa file was incredibly large and I always got the message that my macbook has not enough memory.
    So I build a second folio with just 10 articles and total of approximately 20 MB file size (mp3, pdf, html content).
    Now I could download the .ipa file from DPS app builder, but the file size is 2,12 GB - more than 100 times larger than the size of the files used in this 10 articles.
    To be quite honest: i don't know what to do, because I never was expecting that. What big mistake do I make?

    The most likely problem is that at least one of your Web Content overlays points to an .html file in a Documents folder or Desktop folder. With Web Content overlays, DPS uploads the entire contents of the folder (and all subfolders) in which the .html file appears. So check to make sure that the HTML files you link to are properly isolated.

  • Sharing keynote file as a pdf results in a corrupt file?

    I have added graphics to the keynote presentation by copying from Preview.app.
    When I share and export as  PDF, it crashes acrobat and other pdf viewers on
    Windows and Linux.
    This is a reproducible error and has happened to a couple of my colleagues recently.
    This is a new bug as I have used this workflow many times in the past without problems.
    How can I avoid this? Is this a bug?

    Is your problem possibly related to the Open Type Font Problem occuring in OS X 10.6.7 and later?

    I have no fix at the moment, only to use a Mac running an older OS X installed. The PDF-Creation for iWork Files works there correctly

  • Corrupted Files Blocking Transfer of Purchases

    I recently purchased a 160GB iPod Classic with the intention of being able to store all of my music on a single device. Due to a hard drive crash on my old computer, the only place aside from assorted burned CDs that I have all of my previously purchased iTunes music is on my old iPods. I have tried transferring the purchases; however, due to some corrupted song files (I assume), I cannot get all of the songs to transfer. It stops when it gets to a corrupted file and won't go any further.
    I contacted Apple when I first learned that there was something wrong with some of my downloaded music because the songs won't play on any of my devices. Of course, they have my money already and cannot be bothered with customer service, so they said there was nothing I could do except delete and re-purchase the songs for my library, which I had no intention of doing.
    Does anybody have any idea how I get the iPod to skip over certain files when transferring purchases? I would really like to be able to transfer them just by logging into my my iTunes account on my new computer, but I don't see an option for that anywhere. Please help!

    *Recover media from iPod*
    See this post from Zevoneer for options on moving your iPod data back to your computer.

    Some of the tools linked to will only work if the iPod has a valid library. Others can scan the drive independently and some may even be able to rebuild a damaged library. The manual method towards the end should be able to recover your media regardless of the state of the library.
    In your case the iPod's library might be readable but it sounds as if some of the files are not. You could try the manual method pulling one folder at a time out of the iPod.

  • Reconnectin Media only works for one file at a time...

    Hi,
    After having many times relinked hundreds of off-line media files in one go, FCP now doesn't want to reconnect more than one file at a time. Although all other files are in the relative path, it seems as if I have to relink 1200 files one by one...
    I've found another thread in here, unfortunately closed, but wonder if that bug hasn't been fixed yet. Does anybody know a solution for this?
    Best regards and thanks for your support,
    Thomas

    AND... don't forget that "relative path ALSO refers to the perhaps many bins you have inside FCP. So it's possible to connect everything in a particular bin, as long as all those files are in the same folder on your drives, whether it be capture scratch, or another folder of imported material. some people I know like to put EVERYTHING in the capture scratch folder for that reason. I personally don't, but I've got a system that works for me.
    EDIT: I had a mentor once, many years ago, who suggested strongly that you ought to leave the cutting room every day set in such a way as ANYONE could walk in the next day and pick up right where you left off, just in case you got run over by a car. And dang it, that's just what happened to me. Ralph, you doomed me!
    Now, while he was talking film, the same rules apply. Best not to have files floating all over the place, where you've got to go searching for them.
    Whether there is a bug with a specific version, I have no idea.

  • Detect corrupted files ?

    Hi all!
    I appreciate any help because this one has me got me baffled (and just maybe not possible with Automator)
    Had a drive crash earlier this year, but rather than out and out file damage, the directory structure was broken beyond repair — to make a long story short, when I restored what I could the result was many audio files still appearing in iTunes with proper file name, proper meta tags, proper apparent file size but completely incapable of playing music — iTunes just skips over these files or refuses to play them, when I launch the file in Quicktime it reports that it's unable to play the file at all.
    The problem is, there are numerous files and are completely mixed in with the ones that DO work —
    Rather than go through each track one by one, trying to play it, and moving the ones that don't play out of the library can I write an Automator action that would scan the entire library for me? Could I make something in iTunes that marks these files in some designating way? Or some Finder action that attempts to open each file and reacts in some way if it gets an error message?
    The damaged files seem to be NO different from the functioning ones, in file size, name, date, etc. — they just won't play.
    Really any ideas or ingenious workarounds that you guys can conjure . . .

    The application doesn't actually integrate with Adobe Reader, it just opens it by calling it with the command line and using the filename as a parameter. The application only checks if the Reader's window raised an error.

  • Reading a string one character at a time

    Hi,
    I'm hoping you use SmallBasic for year 10 exam students at my school.  But, I have found a problem I cannot solve.
    I need to be able to read one character at a time from a string (txt file) and convert each char to its ACSII code.
    How do to I read one char at a time from a string to enable processing?
    Thanks for your help.
    Baz

    Here is an over the top solution that will display the Hex value of the character codes of every character in the file.
    TextWindow.Write("Enter full file name: ")
    filnam = TextWindow.Read()
    contents = File.ReadContents(filnam) 'read the entire file
    TextWindow.Clear()
    TextWindow.WriteLine("File Name: " + filnam)
    TextWindow.WriteLine("Offset: 0")
    col = 0
    row = 5
    TextWindow.CursorLeft = col
    TextWindow.CursorTop = row
    For i= 1 To Text.GetLength(contents)
    ch = Text.GetSubText(contents, i,1)
    chVal = Text.GetCharacterCode(ch)
    ConvertToHex()
    TextWindow.CursorLeft = col
    If chVal < 32 Then
    TextWindow.Write(".")
    Else
    TextWindow.Write(ch)
    EndIf
    TextWindow.CursorLeft = 20 + 2 + (col * 3)
    TextWindow.Write(Text.GetSubText(hexstr,1,2))
    col = col + 1
    If col = 8 Then
    col = col + 1
    EndIf
    If col > 16 Then
    col = 0
    row = row + 1
    If row > 20 then
    TextWindow.CursorTop = 23
    TextWindow.CursorLeft = 25
    TextWindow.Write("< < < Press ENTER to Continue > > >")
    TextWindow.Read()
    TextWindow.Clear()
    TextWindow.WriteLine("File Name: " + filnam)
    TextWindow.WriteLine("Offset: " + i)
    row = 5
    EndIf
    TextWindow.CursorTop = row
    EndIf
    EndFor
    TextWindow.WriteLine("")
    TextWindow.WriteLine("")
    Sub ConvertToHex
    HexValue[0] = "0"
    HexValue[1] = "1"
    HexValue[2] = "2"
    HexValue[3] = "3"
    HexValue[4] = "4"
    HexValue[5] = "5"
    HexValue[6] = "6"
    HexValue[7] = "7"
    HexValue[8] = "8"
    HexValue[9] = "9"
    HexValue[11] = "A"
    HexValue[12] = "B"
    HexValue[13] = "C"
    HexValue[14] = "D"
    HexValue[15] = "E"
    val = chVal
    hexstr = "h" 'Need to force Small basic to concatenate rather than add
    While val > 0
    hexPos = Math.Remainder(val, 16)
    hexstr = HexValue[hexPos] + hexstr
    val = Math.Floor(val / 16)
    EndWhile
    For hi = Text.GetLength(hexstr) To 2
    hexstr = "0" + hexstr
    EndFor
    EndSub
    Enjoy!

  • How do I give access to one episode at a time from a tv series on iTunes?

    On my son's Gateway, running XP, I have set up an account for him and an account for myself (with me as administrator). Here's what I want to do: download an entire TV series onto iTunes under my account, then transfer one episode at a time to iTunes under his account, giving him access only to the episodes that I have transferred to him. What's the best way to do this? (I want to buy the whole season as it is cheaper than one episode at a time). (OK, yes, I am bribing him to do his school work, but hey, it's healthier than McDonalds!

    I thought I had to download the whole season at once (if the whole thing is available).
    No, but any available episodes will automatically download unless you go into the Download queue and pause them. Just so it's clear, even if you buy a season pass, each episode is a separate video. So you can download them all to your Windows/iTunes account and just copy over to your son's account the ones you want him to have access to.
    Do you know how long I can leave the purchased episodes on iTunes before downloading? Is there a time limit where the un-downloaded episodes will just go away?
    I wouldn't suggest that you leave them for very long at all. There's too much risk of something corrupting your download queue should an episode, for some reason, be pulled (as can happen if an episode is found to have bad encoding, for instance). I'd suggest that you download them as soon after they appear as you can.

  • Saving one frame at a time?

    Cheers!
    I am using Low-level Grab Raw Data.vi example from NI-IMAQ. I want to save one frame at a time and then set the file position to end (and maybe add some mark that I recognize where the next frame begins). I know that it copies the raw data of the specified frame into Image Data Array. But does it write (in this example) data of one frame to disk and then set file position to end? If not, how to modify it?
    How does changing number of buffer affect? I mean if I increase it >1 does it affect to number of frames to write per one iteration time of while loop?

    LH,
    You may (you can see Groups in the Layers palette with the layer expanded):
    1) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+G to Ungroup ;
    2) ShiftClick the circle to deselect it; if it is still a Group (all of its own), Ungroup again;
    3) With the Centre Reference Point ticked in the Transform palette multiply the W or H value by 1.1 (just add *1.1 in the box) and Ctrl/CmdEnter to keep proportions (this is to make sure that they are long enough);
    4) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything again and Pathfinder>Divide (this will make pie pieces);
    5) Drag over the centre with the Direct Selection Tool and press Delete (this will rid you of the inner parts of the pie pieces so you just have the outer rim in pieces).
    This should give you the 30 independent curved lines forming the circle, two of them with an extra (original) Anchor Point.

  • Reading all corrupt files on a CD

    I am trying to read files from CDs, some of which are faulty. As it stands, if I copy all the files at one go from a CD to a folder, the copy process stops when a faulty file is encountered. A bit of a bother because then I have to initiate a second copy, starting from the next file.
    Is it possible to initiate copying of all files on a CD, and the whole process goes to completion with warnings that certain of the files are faulty and have not been completely copied?

    I assumed as much.
    Another problem with copying corrupt CD audio files with Finder is that they will appear as normal on the computer, with the correct time-length displayed, but will actually only contain data up to the corruption. The problem then arises (if you forget that you had an error message for a certain file), that you end up with a corrupt file that is partly playable but stops. If the corruption is near the end of a long symphony, you probably won't realise the problem until you play the file all the way through.
    I would have thought if a file was corrupt it shouldn't be saved at all.
    Moral: don't use the Finder to copy CD audio files. Use iTunes (with error-correction) or Max.

  • "Invalid or corrupt file" after Obfuscation with "The Marvin Obfuscator"

    Hi!
    I want to use "The Marvin Obfuscator" (www.drjava.de) to secure MY code a little bit.
    But the resulting .jar-file doesn't work. "Invalid or corrupt file".
    I think, that things, i configured in the configuration file aren't true.
    Has anyone experience with "The Marvin Obfuscator"?
    I created a .jar-file with Eclipse. My Marvin-configuration-file (config.txt) is as the following:
    // Template for a Marvin Obfuscator config file
    // Directories and jar/zip archives where your application's classes reside
    // (relative to project directory)
    classpath=("archive.jar","C:\Java\jre1.5.0_05\lib\rt.jar")
    // The name of your applet or applications's main class
    // (e.g. executable class, servlet or applet)
    // (as it would appear in <applet code=...> or in "java ...")
    // Note the double parentheses!
    mainClasses=(("control.Start"))
    // If you want your main class to be called differently after the obfuscation,
    // you can enter the new name (including package) like this:
    // mainClasses=(("myapp.Main" newName="main"))
    // You can also have more than one main class:
    // mainClasses=(("myapp.ServletA") ("myapp.ServletB"))
    // Names of methods (without class name) that are accessed via reflection.
    // The obfuscator will not change the names of these methods.
    //preserveMethodNames=("methodName1","methodName2","reflected*")
    // Classes that are accessed via reflection.
    // The obfuscator will not change the names of these classes.
    // Note: Method names within these classes will still be obfuscated.
    // (If you need to preserve method names too, what you probably want
    // is "externalClasses".)
    // Note: You can use the wildcard character (*).
    //preserveClassNames=("mypackage.SpecialClass")
    // Classes that are used by your application,
    // but should not be included in the obfuscated jar file.
    // The obfuscator also ensures that references to these classes continue to
    // work ("referencing" includes calling, subclassing and implementing).
    // Note: Any part of these libraries that is actually used must be in the
    // classpath (either system classpath or classpath= line in this file).
    //externalClasses=("com.company.externallibary.*","org.apache.*")
    // Locations of resource files.
    // If you want resource files (images, properties files, ...) to be included
    // in the jar file, specify the resource directories or archives here.
    // Do NOT specify individual resources files (these will be interpreted as
    // archives).
    // Note: Directories will be scanned recursively.
    // Note: .class files are excluded automatically.
    // Note: You will usually want to reuse entries from the classpath= line
    // (classes and resources are often bundled in the same jar files).
    //resources=("resourcedir","resources.jar")
    // Advanced obfuscation features.
    encryptStrings=true // You can try to set this to false for troubleshooting

    Why not use another obfuscator? Google for "java obfuscator". I myself
    use JShrink and it does a good job in reducing the code size.
    It always generated valid class files for me.
    As for "protection", don't count on it too much with any obfuscator, but
    yes, some may do a better job than others.
