Automator workflow no longer working under Leopard

Here's what I had - I use the Sonos music system which has a limit on total metadata. The longer the file path the more data was used. Therefore the folder system set up by iTunes (which I could not get rid of no matter what I tried) would end up using a lot of the data limit.
I created an Automator task that did the following:
1. Looked through my iTunes Music folder (on an external hard drive) for any folders.
2. Took the contents of the folders and moved them to the iTunes Music folder.
3. Searched through the iTunes Music folder for the now-empty subfolders
4. Moved these empty subfolders to the trash.
Using Leopard's Automator, I tried running my old workflow and got several error messages. Worse, it appears to have deleted my old workflow (can't find it anywhere) - whether or not Automator deleted it or I did accidentally, I no longer have it.
Trying to replicate the old flow, I simply cannot put together instructions that work. I can't seem to empty the folders out, so that the folders in the trash are filled with the songs. Once I even accidentally moved the whole iTunes folder into the trash. I can't get the last "move to trash" command to work without an error message though it seems to actually work no matter that there's an error message.
This shouldn't be too hard, but maybe I'm forgetting something simple. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Stu

Adam,
Numbers 3 should be free if you had it on your machine before (you were using Numbers 3 before, right?).  In App Store you might try clicking 'Account' under Quick Links and Reset all warnings for buying and downloading. And, if necessary, also contact Apple to get that charge reversed.
I can't reproduce the script problem here. The fact that the Paste and Match Style is greyed seems to suggest that your copy of Numbers thinks there is nothing in the clipboard... Are you sure you don't have one of the many clipboard enhancement type applications on your machine?
To test that you could try manually copying text into the clipboard (from say, TextEdit) and check to see if Numbers accepts a paste.
Another thing to try: run the script from AppleScript Editor to see if you get the expected results from there.
And also try this:  Open Terminal and at the ~ prompt type this command:
    date +%H:%M
It should respond immediately with the time in 24-hour format.
If you do get the time as expeced and you can't the the original script to work again,  then try the script below, which avoids the clipboard.
SG
tell application "Numbers"
set t to front document's active sheet's first table whose selection range's class is range
tell first cell of t's selection range
set value to do shell script "date +%H:%M"
          end tell
end tell

  • Automator workflow no longer works on 10.7

Hi.  I've been using an Automator workflow for years:  it opens iTunes, looks for a specific radio station, sets iTunes volume, sets Computer volume, starts iTunes playing and runs a small Applescript script to close the folder if it was open.
This has been running for years.  Upgraded to 10.7 and it stopped working.  It seems to launch, but nothing happens.
I recreated the same workflow, and I can run it:  it states that every step is "Completed".  But it really doesn't work!!!
What should I try next?  (Windows 8???)

Hi Frank.  Thanks for the response.
(Mentioning Windows 8 was a joke, as I'm sure you know! ;-)
Here's what the workflow looks like;  you'll note the "all green" log at the bottom!
By the way, when I run it, iTunes does launch;  but it doesn't play anything.  And there IS a WCPE entry;  it's a radio station that is in the list of radio stations/Classical and that entry has also been copied to one of my playlists.
The workflow was created as an application and it's run when I power up the Mac.
Thanks for your interest and advice!

It sure does appear that somehow the parental controls are linked to the widget issue in some fashion. I have two different accounts for my children (each with parental controls), one for my wife (no parental controls), a guest account and of course my administrative account.
After reading your replies I solved my problem (at least for now) by: 1) turning off the parental controls on my children's accounts; 2) logging into each existing account and; 3) logging back into the administrative account. When I finally got back into my own account, the widgets were all working again just like they did before. We'll see if this resolves the issue for the long-term (or at least until Apple can patch Leopard a little bit more).
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • "Older" apps no longer work under 10.7

Filemaker pro 7, Toast and Photoshop CS3 no longer work under 10.7. Is there any way to make these work or will I have to go back to OS 10.6?

    Time for an update.
I'd scrap Toast.  And CS 5.5 and FileMaker Pro 11 are way better than the older versions you have, and will run substantially faster as native applicaitons.
Though I thought CS3 was actually a Universal application and thus _should_ run on Lion (albeit not supported any more)

  • XITEL HiFi-Link AN1 No Longer Working Under 10.4.6

My XITEL HiFi-Link is no longer working under 10.4.6.
This USB sound device is selected as my output device.
I have tried both USB ports - no sound.
Both USB ports function properly with other input devices.
    Any Ideas?

Kernel 3.13.7 contains the patch to fix this bug, from here on the mailing list: https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/3/20/819
So now I don't have to hold back my kernel anymore, and this issue is resolved. Woopee!

  • Lexmark Optra S 1250 - Working under Leopard

I wanted to let people know that the Lexmark Optra S 1250 printer can work under leopard (10.5.1). It was quite a (stressful) experience getting it working but here were the essential steps:
    1. After installing 10.5.1, reinstall the latest Optra S printer driver.
    2. Ensure the printer is connected and powered on - mine is connected using a USB to Parallel converter cable but could also use an Ethernet cable
    3. In the 'Printer & Fax Preference pane click the "+" to add a new printer.
    4. Let the search for the printer driver complete(by gosh it is extremely slow!)
    5. Click "Add" and when the drop-down box starts looking for 'printer options', don't wait (it never completes) but click the "Configure" button. Select your options and then exit.
    6. Hopefully the printer now shows up as added on the left side of the Preference pane.
    7. Close and then Restart the computer. I couldn't get the printer to respond to print commands (drove me crazy!) until after I decided to shut down and restart the computer.
    8. If you still have problems, you may need to go back to the Printer & Fax Preference Pane, control-click on the printer icon in the left side of the pane and select "Reset print system". After that, redo steps 1 to 7.
    Good luck
    Rudy

    Explain #8.
Did you restart after adding the drivers?
If you open the System Profiler, under Firewire or Printers what do yo see?
    (Apple Menu/About this Mac/More Info/Firewire or Printer)
If it sees them then you know it's a configuration problem.

    Hi all,

  • How to update screensaver that no longer works with Leopard or Snow Leopard

Hello. I have a favorite screen saver that would no longer work when I installed Leopard...and it also does not work with Snow Leopard either.
Can anyone tell me if I might be able to fix it and make it Snow Leopard compatible? Could I possibly open it up in Xcode or some other program, and make the appropriate changes?
I also have several iTunes plugins that quit working when Leopard was installed...and I'd like to do the same for them.
    Thanks!

check with the vendor of that screensaver to see if there is a SL compatible version.

only if it's an open source screensaver with source code included. impossible otherwise.

  • I wiped my computer, and now iTunes doesn't work. Does iTunes no longer work with Leopard, or did I do something wrong?

I wiped the computer using the original OS disk so I could give it to my mom in July. iTunes worked when I did it. I just updated the system and tried logging onto iTunes for the first time since I wiped the memory. I can log on, but nothing appears on the home screen. It looks like I can download files from the internet and import them into iTunes, but I can't access the stuff I've purchased from Apple. Is the iTunes Store no longer compatible with Leopard? Do I have to purchase a newer OS to access my purchases? Or did I do something wrong?

Hi, likely something else isn't updated, maaybe Safari?
Is his he version you have, & Safari 5.0.3 or more?

  • ITunes Home Sharing No Longer Working Under Lion

Home Sharing is no longer working between Lion and my Apple TV or iPhone. I am able to watch Netflix through my Apple TV (2nd Gen) so I do have connectivity. I have restarted both devices, and updated iTunes to 10.4. Under "Advanced" in iTunes, Home Sharing is turned on. In Preferences in iTunes under Sharing, it says Status: On, no users connected, even though my Apple TV is connected to the network.
Is this problem isolated, or are others experiencing the same issue?

I'm up and running. Spoke with Apple and they had me go to : preferences, network and create a new location. That seems to have reset something. I had to reset all my devices back to my main network that had stopped working. The guest network will not let Home Sharing work, only the main network.
Others have been able to use Home Sharing without clicking "Done" after typing in their password. After you click "Done" the Shared disappears in iTunes.
    Apple help people were GREAT!

  • Sync no longer working under 10.6.3

I can no longer sync under 10.6..3 to MobileMe, it worked perfectly prior to the update. When I open my address book I get the following pop up box stating:
You need to replace your Contact Information on MobileMe. There is a box to click on that says "Replace". When I click on the box nothing happens.
I went to the preferences pane and selected MobileMe-Sync-Advanced and invoked Reset Sync Data. That also did not work. I went to MobileMe using Safari and deleted all my contacts and tried everything again and nothing worked again. So I am stuck and unable to upload or sync from my computer to MobileMe. Incidentally, I also tried to run all the scripts using Cocktail and cleared all the caches. Any more ideas for me?

  • CUPS printing to remote server doesn't work under Leopard

So i have an ubuntu system running cups 1.2.8 as a print server. i have an epson stylus colour 760 plugged in and configured and working.
i also had a macmini running tiger printing to it fine via ipp. now it didn't occur to me that something as simple (and important) as printing would be severely broken under Leopard. basically, after the upgrade, i can't print at all to the remote cups server.

Hi! A pram reset is at the hardware level before the OS starts to load so leopard isn't apt to have killed it. Are you using a keyboard other than an original? I just tried resetting mine on my G4 with leopard and it worked fine. Tom

  • Yamaha RP-U200 only partly working under Leopard

I had been cheerfully using my Yahaha RP-U200, a USB sound output device, for audio output on my macintosh under Tiger. It was recognized by the Sound Preference pane without problems. However, under Leopard, I find that only the sound input features of the unit are supported. It is no longer listed under the Sound Output part of the preference pane. Why was the support for the sound output for this unit removed from Leopard? Am I doing something wrong? Please advise how to correct this problem.

You've posted this under the *Mac OS X Server* section of 10.5 discussions,
and it's not at all clear why.
You're likely to get more input (if not a solution) in the non-server section...http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=235
10.5 is a very different operating system, with no guarantees that your device will be supported.
Did you do any testing or check Yamaha's site for info on 10.5 compatibility ?
You might want to submit some feedback at
    www.apple.com/feedback
    and possibly call Apple support
Best of luck with this !
