Automator workflow to TAR multiple files in a single directory into multiple TAR archives, in succession?
Good afternoon,
I have set up an automator service that TAR's a folder into an archive for me and it works quite nicely. Idealy however, I would like to be able to highlight several folders, right click and have automator tar each folder into it's own TAR archive, but do it one by one.
Example:
FOLDER 01
FOLDER 02
FOLDER 03
Highlight all - Right Click - "TAR Folder" - Automator takes over at this point and TARs each one into:
FOLDER 01.tar (Once complete moves onto:)
FOLDER 02.tar (Once complete moves onto:)
FOLDER 03.tar (Finished)
I'm not 100% sure so I guess it would be a good time to verify, is there a problem with having the system try to TAR multiple folders at one time? If it is not a problem then I guess this discussion itself is pointless and I can simple right click on each folder and select "TAR Folder" and just wait until they're all finished. I would think that it would be ideal for the system to do each one individually and not try to do them all at one time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!!
I don't think I have the following totally fleshed out but you probably can extrapolate on it. This is a service which you can right click a set of folders and it will tar the files within those selected folders with then file names "name xxx.tar", where name is the tar'ed file/folder and xxx is a count within the folder.
I think that is what you originally specified so I am a bit confused by your script with the bit about Archive.tar.
Anyway here the basic idea:
I ran the script directly with a folder argument just to see it indeed tar's up all the stuff inside, one tar per item.

With a single Audigy 2 Card, how do I setup to record from two of the inputs (line-in and mic) into separate tracks in Adobe Audition 1.5?
I am trying to get the different inputs to list as different devices in Adobe Audition 1.5 so that I can record to multiple tracks simultaneously with different input.
Is it possible?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank youI need to know the same thing when using an Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro. Neither the users manual nor the website provide anything more technical than how to hook up speakers wires.
If you cannot multitrack from the multiple inputs, is the IEE 1394 (firewire) port capable of 6 pin connection to a Yamaha digital mixer with an MLan digital I/O card. If so, will the 16in/16out from the MLan pass through and be recognized by Adobe Audition?
Thanks -
Splitting single video into multiple files - workflow improvements?
I regularly need to split a single video into multiple separate files that are used by other programs. I'm using Premiere Pro CS4 for a number of reasons including the ability to easily and accurately select a scene by individual frames, native audio and video effects/filters, and the ability to import and export various video types. I'm open to using other tools, but I haven't yet found one that is even close to Premiere Pro when it comes to accurately selecting split points.
I'm not a Premiere Pro expert. I have been doing this for about four months and have read many resources (books, forum posts, help guides) to refine the workflow I'm currently using. My question: does anyone know any improvements that might save me time/keystrokes.
Current workflow:
I've bound F8 to File > Export > Media
Import video file
Open in source monitor
Set In and Out points for scene in source monitor
Ctrl-drag from source monitor to Project Panel (creates a subclip)
Repeat 3 and 4 for all scenes/subclips
Select all subclips from Project Panel and drag to timeline
Set work area bar to first subclip in timeline by the following four keystrokes: Home, Alt-[, PageDown, Alt-]
Type F8 (File > Export > Media shortcut). Type output file name, click OK and the first subclip is put in the AME queue
For the remaining subclips, type: Alt-[, PageDown, Alt-], F8, output file name, OK and repeat until done
Any thoughts/ideas on workflow improvements?
Thank you!Thank you Hunt.
For the sake of brevity, I didn't include all of the details about the various aspects of the projects.
Early on I was doing what you suggested and yes, it is a little quicker. I learned (painfully) a couple of months later that I sometimes have to go back and adjust the clips and this method (trim to timeline with no subclips) resulted in quite a bit of duplicate effort (to reobtain start/stop points). I've since learned that managing the "scenes" as subclips in topical bins allows me to go back and make adjustments, long after I've totally forgotten about the project content, without a lot of unnecessary reworking. -
Is there a way to combine multiple files that were scanned individually into one?*
Is there a way to combine multiple files that were scanned individually into one?*
Assuming the scans are all PDFs, here is one easy way:
Open the first PDF in Preview.
Duplicate (File > Duplicate) if you want to preserve the original.
Choose View > Contact Sheet.
Drag and drop the other files from the Finder into the Contact Sheet window. You can select the files one at a time or multiple files at once.
Arrange the contact sheet icons in the desired order.

Split Single IDOC into Multiple IDOC's Based on Segment Type
Hi Experts,
I have a scenario IDOC to FILE , Split Single IDOC into Multiple IDOC's based on Segment Type
Outbound:
ZIdocName
Control Record
Data Record
Segment 1
Segment 2
Segment 3
Status Record
I should get output like below
Inbound:
ZIdocName
Control Record
Data Record
Segment 1
Status Record
ZIdocName
Control Record
Data Record
Segment 2
Status Record
ZIdocName
Control Record
Data Record
Segment 3
Status Record
Please suggest me step by step process to achieve this task.
Thanks. Thanks a lot Harish for reply.
I have small doubt. According to your reply , If we have N number of segments in single IDOC with same fields in all segments then for splitting Single IDOC into Multiple IDOC's based on Segment Type we need to duplicate N number of target IDOC tree structure.
Is that possible to Split single IDOC into Multiple IDOC's based on Segment Type using only one Target IDOC structure without duplicating the Target IDOC structure tree. -
AppleScript to skip Automator workflow step - when no files are provided
My current Automator workflow:
Get Specified Finder Items (path to folder auto-populating with images from a camera)
Get Folder Contents
Sort Finder Items - by Creation Date in descending order (gets oldest item first)
Limit Number of Items - Limit to First 1 items
Move Finder Items (If no items are passed to this step skip it)
Loop - Automatically; Stop after 20 minutes; Use the original input
What I am trying to accomplish:
I'm trying to write an AppleScript to skip the "Move Finder Items action" when it is not supplied with any files (from the previous workflow step), moving on to the next step which is a loop to begin my workflow again.
Big picture:
I have a workflow, where I am moving files from one folder to another folder (one at a time). When the input folder is empty, Automator comes back with "No item references were passed to the Move Finder Items action (-50)"; which it should - because it is not passed any files. I would like to ignore this error (or skip this step) and continue with the workflow if no files are provided to the "Move Finder Items action". I currently have an AppleScript (see below) that stops the workflow when this error occurs, but I would like to have this flow continue, not stop.
AppleScript:
on run {input, parameters}
if input is {} then error number -128 -- 'user cancelled'
return input
end run
Please help me create a script to skip this step, or to restart the Automator workflow when no files are passed to the "Move Finder Items action".I'm not aware of a way to do this with a workflow saved as an application, but Automator is scriptable, so you can manipulate a workflow document. For an example, build the follwing workflow:
Ask for Text (just to get some input)
Run AppleScript:
on run {input, parameters}
set currentAction to index of current action of front workflow -- the most recent completed action
if input is {} then -- if no input then disable the following action
tell Automator action index (currentAction + 2) of front workflow to set enabled to false
else -- enable it
tell Automator action index (currentAction + 2) of front workflow to set enabled to true
end if
return input
end run
Ask for Confirmation (just to show a dialog when enabled - this action will be enabled/disabled based on the text input)
Loop
You can also use action names, but I think it is less confusing to use indexes, since names can be edited and an action can be used more than once. -
Insert multiple files onto a single track, not one file per track
Hello,
In both Audition CS5.5 and CS6, when the user inserts multiple files into a multitrack session, they are placed on multiple tracks. (As the help file says, "The files are inserted on separate tracks at the current time position"). Please change this to allow multiple files to be inserted onto a single track.
I can understand the usefulness of the current behaviour in some scenarios, but there are other workflows in which the placement of multiple files on multiple tracks is a serious hindrance.
E.g. In this thread, a user mentions needing to insert 10,000 individual files for dialogue editing and mixing.
I also posted in that thread because my own workflow involves editing hundreds of individual files, which are single notes recorded for the production of virtual instruments.
The reason why a "one-track multitrack" workflow is useful to me is that it allows great flexibility in processing multiple files individually or at once, comparing them, adding markers, fades, etc.
It would also be useful when bringing in any audio that has been recorded in consecutive chunks - field recordings, concerts, Foley sessions, etc.
In the thread, another user suggested inserting all the files onto a single track in Premiere Pro, then bringing that project into Audition as a multitrack session. Unfortunately this creates another problem for me, because it renames all the audio with the suffix "extracted". My workflow requires me to keep the original file names, because these are used downstream when mapping the recorded notes in the virtual instrument.
Thanks for reading and please consider this for a future update.Just curious. Has there been an answer yet as to how to insert existing audio clips from a file to a waveform view in CS6. I create voiceovers or edit large interview files that require audio tones and sfx for my clients in production studios. The tones are inserted between takes as a courtesy tone to denote separation. In the older versions of Audition, the function was as simple as mix/pasting an audio file, selecting insert or overlap, set the import level percentage and paste. And each time this function was exercised, Audition would use the same settings you last used to reduce repetition of settings. Logical. That's all gone in CS6 ... so, to lay down a voiceover file for Comcast or any client, in waveform view (vs. Multitrack which is not necessary for single mono file editing) I have to go through unnecessary steps simple to select insert/mix paste>file>paste into existing wave form.
Also, if I need to simply overlap a gasp over the last syllable of a phrase in a simple wave form, I don't appear to be able to do this. I called Adobe for support on these function, but, they had not answers and simple said I couldn't change the workspace, and they had no other answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated if you have insight. -
Description:
We have created a custom workflow in Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 and SharePoint 2013. This Workflow is associated with a Document library.
This Workflow starts as soon as any new item is created OR updated in Document library and creates a Task in Workflow Tasks list.
Related Item link is not working in following scenario -
Upload a file that contains “ ' “
in its name, in a document library
Navigate to Workflow Tasks list
Open View Item form (DispForm.aspx ) of Task Created by workflow then click on link in Related Item fields
OUPUT:
Related Item link truncates after “ ' “
Eg.
Original Link: http://<Site URL>/Documents/te'st.txt
Related Item Field: http://<Site URL>/Documents/te
Is this known bug in SharePoint 2013 OR any hotfix available to fix it.Hi,
As I tested per your description, I can reproduce the issue as well.
From what I have found out, it seems SharePoint resolve single quote into different code in different place. During the test, if I set Task Name to Document Name, single quote will be resolved to ' , if I set some field to Document encoded URL, single
quote will be resolved to %27 . For now, I haven't found out any article talking about this issue.
As workaround, we may find out a way to change the Related Item field. However, it is OOB field in workflow task (SharePoint 2013) content type, and this content type cannot be modified in form.
I'd suggest you add new column to get document url and place in the form in Task content type settings.

Rebecca Tu

[CRS2008] Scheduling a report to multiple file output in single schedule
Hi,
Is there any way in CRS2008 / Infoview to scheduling one report to multiple file output in one schedule?
i thought maybe it can, but still not found the way.
Says,
I have one report say "Report by Branch.rpt", the parameter prompt is BranchCode.
I want to generate the "Report by Branch.rpt" for every BranchCode in separate output generate file. Like, "Report by Branch.rpt" for BranchCode A, or "Report by Branch.rpt" for BranchCode B.
So, if i run the schedule, it will generate several report based on the report parameter given.
Hope, would find the way.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Edited by: fritzwijaya on Sep 20, 2010 3:47 AMFor anyone still looking, the job can be seen under the Job History option on the home screen, but not on the Job History option under the report in the catalog - i am assuming this is becasue somehow im not referencing the report correctly in the ScheduleReport request message.
Also, the jobId returned is a parent jobId, which when used to poll the job status, always returns a 'Scheduled' status. Im now adding 1 to this ID to get the status of my job - this returns the correct status of 'Success'.
Still hoping someone has an idea on the getDocumentData question...?
Thanks. -
Multiple files (with same message type) into a single file
Dear All,
I am having multiple files(same message type) with details like header data and its line item details in each file. The structure of all the files will be:
File1 File2 File3
H1 H2 H3
L1 L1 L1
L2
L3
Now my requirement is that after every 10 hours all the files should be picked and merged (append) into a single file as target file. The structure of output file will be now like
H1
L1
L2
L3
H2
L1
H3
L1
Kindly guide on how to proceed on this with BPM or without BPM
Regards,
NJNow my requirement is that after every 10 hours all the files should be picked and merged
(append) into a single file as target file.
Check the use of "Availability Time Planning" of the adapter in your case
/people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2006/11/26/adapter-scheduling--hail-sp-19-
If your requirement is to append you can do so by using the File Construction mode as Append in receiver File adapter
If your req is to do a N:1 mapping (i.e. merger) then develop a mapping program accordingly...

Abhishek.

Transferring multiple files over a single socket
I'm trying to send multiple files to a client without creating a new socket for each file and I'm undeceided on the best approach. The problem is that if the client is just reading from a socket, it won't know when one file stops and the next begins (assuming that the server side is just writing byte data to the socket). I could use an ObjectStream, but then I can't create a nifty progress bar. I could transfer the byte length of each file so that the client knows how much to read, but this seems messy. Is there a better approach?
Method 1: send file length first. Simple way. Downside: if the file size changes on disk while you are sending it you may be in trouble - what if the file is truncated or there is an IO error so you can't send as many bytes as you promised.
Method 2: use an end-of-file indicator. E.g. "." on a line by itself. If the file contains a "." on a line you'll need to quote it - e.g. the SMTP mail protocol uses "..", and "..." for two periods, etc. Needs a bit of extra code to do the quoting and detecting the EOF marker.
Method 3: send "packets". Send a "packet header" followed by data, e.g.:
HERECOMES C:\fred.txt
DATA 1024 <...1024 bytes...>
DATA 1024 <...1024 bytes...>
DATA 120 <...last 120 bytes...>
END OF FILE HAVE A NICE DAY
You can make the "packet header commands" binary ('\001' = file begins, '\002' = data segment, ...) or sort of human readable like SMTP and HTTP do. The former can be a bit easier to implement, the latter is nice because you can debug it easier and try it out with "telnet". -
We would like to purchase LiveCycle for the PDF Generator feature, but we want to know if it will meet our technical requirements.
We would like to convert a PDF, an HTML, a DOCX, and some custom text into 1 single PDF/A. Basically: joining 3 different files types and some text into 1 very long PDF/A file. Can we do this type of join?
Also, we would like to install LiveCycle on a central server and then call a web service or use an API where we can input the 3 different files and the text and as output we would get 1 PDF/A back. Obviously there might be intermediary steps, but in essence we need to be able to do this conversion from our custom code by calling some LiveCycle API.
Thanks! You can use Assembler service with PDFGenerator. There is support for Web Service endpoints(SOAP). Please go through this for details : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/11.0/Overview/lc_overview_ds.pdf

Extract Multiple Rows from a Single Table into a Single Row in a New Table
I have a table in a database that contains contact data like name, address, phone number, etc.
The folks who designed the database and wrote the application wrote it so that all contact records are placed in that table, regardless of contact type. In fact, the contacts table does not even have a column for "type" even though there are many
different types of contacts present in that table.
I am trying to write a mail merge style report in SRSS, that gets sent to a specific type of contact, based on criteria provided that must be obtained from another table, and that data is then used to get back to a specific set of contacts from the contacts
table.
The attached file directly below describes my problem and all related information in an extremely detailed way.
SRSSMailMergeIssue.pdf
Unless there is a way to make a SRSS Tablix point to two different data sets in SRSS, it looks like I have to combine multiple rows from the same table into a new table.
If anyone can review the details in the attached pdf file and possibly point me in the direction I need to run to solve this probelm, I would greatly appreciate it.
I also included a document (below) that shows the tables I reference in the probelm description.
dbtables.pdfI found a solution.... and posted it below

Split single row into multiple rows containing time periods
Hi,
I have a table with rows like this:
id, intime, outtime
1, 2010-01-01 00:10, 2010-01-3 20:00
I would like to split this row into multiple rows, 1 for each 24hr period in the record.
i.e. The above should translate into:
id, starttime, endtime, period
1, 2010-01-01 00:10, 2010-01-02 00:10, 1
1, 2010-01-02 00:10, 2010-01-03 00:10, 2
1, 2010-01-03 00:10, 2010-01-03 20:00, 3
The first starttime should be the intime and the last endtime should be the outtime.
Is there a way to do this without hard-coding the 24hr periods?
Thanks,
Dan Scott
http://danieljamesscott.orgThanks for all the feedback, Dan.
It appears that the respective solutions provided will give you: a) different resultsets and b) different performance.
Regarding your 'truly desired resultset' you haven't answered all questions from my previous post (there are differences in the provided examples), but anyway:
I found that using CEIL or ROUND makes quite a difference, using my 'simple 3 record testset' (30 records vs. 66 records got initially returned, that's less than half of the original). That's quite a difference. However, I must call it a day (since it's almost midnight) for now, so there's room for more optimizement and I haven't thoroughly tested.
But this might hopefully make a difference performancewise when compared to my previous 'dreaded example':
SQL> drop table t;
Table dropped.
SQL> create table t as
2 select 1 id, to_date('2010-01-01 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') intime, to_date('2010-01-03 20:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') outtime from dual union all
3 select 2 id, to_date('2010-02-01 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') intime, to_date('2010-02-05 20:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') outtime from dual union all

Splitting the single record into multiple records based on validity
Hi Guru's,
basically i am an BI consultant with less knowledge on ABAP, can i request your help on the ABAP task.
I am working on HR module which is integrated with SAP BI, the reports will be executed based on calendar month the requirement is i should split the single record into a multiple records based on validity of the record. basically the HR data would be in data from and date to.
below is the logic
Check whether the start and end date of the record are in the same month and year.
If yes nothing changes
If no create multiple records
1st record original start date of the record u2018till end of that month
Following record 1st of the next month u2018till last day of the month
u2026
Last record 1st of the month u2018till original end date.
All fields will have the same values, only the datefrom and dateto fields change.
Can any one please provide me the same code to proceed on my task.
Thanks and Regards,

Making sequentially numbered forms in InDesign
I am a prepress designer and I have a 2 part NCR form which needs to be sequentially numbered (1-xxxx) in the top right corner. I used to send out any forms that needed numbering because I thought I could not do it in house until today. I was told by
