Autonumber paras across chapters

Hello,
I want to have a multi-chapter book, each chapter of which has standard numbered headings at various levels. So far, no problem.
In addition to this, I want to add a second set of numbers which run across the entire book and are independent of the other numbering system. Heading1 paras should be numbered sequentially (§1, §2, etc.) and other, lower level paras should be alphabetised (a, b, etc.) within that. I want these numbers to appear in mirrored margins.
(This is a standard system used in grammars in my field.)
Seems that the mirroring suggests I use side heads. But after that, I'm unsure what to do. Can I set up counters at the book rather than chapter level? Or do I have to do it all by hand once the book is finished?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
K

That would be the method you should use for the side head numbering, yes. This step controls the action of the counters -- whether they're incremented, restart, or contain a custom text message.
The counters are actually invoked by the paragraph tags, which also control the formatting and the way the counters are presented in the document. One thing that you should do when setting up numbering in your paragraph tags, that is often overlooked, is to specify a numbering stream. Frame has 57 streams that can be assigned to track different things. A particular stream is invoked by starting the autonumbering string with a letter and colon -- A: or a:, for instance -- and then the numbering counters. Some people might use c: or C: for chapters, H: for heads, or S: for a sidehead.
So two steps, with different purposes.

  • Error msg,please help :) "The item you tried to buy is no longer available"

    Hi there, I am using a Macbook pro with Leopard with the newest version of iTunes. Many, many times when I have tried to purchase the newest episode of LOST, I click 'purchase' and type in my information and click 'yes', and for an instant it says 'purchasing' and shows the striped purchasing par across the top for only an instant, and then that disappears and an error message comes up, saying
    "The item you tried to buy is no longer available.
    The availability of the item changed while you were using the store.
    The same item may be available with a different price or elsewhere
    on the store."
    In past weeks, I have been eventually able to purchase the episode, after trying to purchase and receiving the same error literally hundreds of times. Why do I try hundreds of times? Because I want to see LOST! And I will have to face the wrath of my disappointed housemates if I fail to present the episode in time. But this is very, very, very, very frustrating! Please help, iTunes! Or anyone, any help will be greatly appreciated. But this glitch has been going on literally for weeks/months! I expected it to be ironed out and fixed completely by now, but it is not at all, it is just as bad as it was when I first noticed it shortly after the beginning of LOST season 4, a few months ago.
    Also, when I try to email iTunes, I am sure that I can email iTunes if I finally pick a subject that does not apply, but I do not want to do that.
    It is also very, very, very frustrating, whenever trying to email iTunes, to be forced into picking a subject from a very, very limited menu. Many questions, such as this question, do not fit at all into any of the choices presented, from which a person is forced to choose a subject, before being allowed to type an email to iTunes.
    I look forward to any help anyone can give regarding this error message, so that I will be able to purchase the new LOST episode from iTunes. Thanks for your help!

    I had the same issue this morning downloading a pre-order of Alanis, Flavors of Entanglement . I noticed that the only thing that had changed fro me was that I had some song credits for purchasing ticketmaster tickets over the past few weeks. When I went ahead and spent my remaining credits... it downloaded with no prompting or trouble. Maybe the credits issues hangs it up?

  • CS3 - How can I preserve Links and Hyperlinks in my INDB?

    I am still pretty new to ID, so please speak slowly :)
    My problem - I create an INDB that consists of several indd chapters. The chapters include numerous Links (to PNG & PSD images) and Hyperlinks both to Text anchors to other chapters within the INDB, as well as to URLs. I have all items saved on my local HD. Once complete, I do "Package for Print", check the Preflight report to make sure all is OK (it is) and then save the new INDB folder in a new location on my local HD. This all seems to work just fine, BUT if I move this packaged INDB folder (such as to a backup drive, or give to another worker that copies it to their HD), upon opening the INDB file, some links and Hyperlinks are broken.
    It seems that these broken Links and Hyperlinks are still pointing to the original locations on my HD. But obviously not all are, since most links/hyperlinks DO work fine. The Hyperlinks to Text anchors within other indd chapters seem to typically break. Is there a way to force these to reference the packaged assets within the INDB folder? Seems ID would be smart enough to look there itself!
    Also, I was creating some Hyperlinks as "cross referenced" - that is, I created a URL Hyperlink Destination in Chapter 1 indd and then created Hyperlinks pointing to it from other chapter indd in the book. I have learned that these ALWAYS break in the above scenario, so I started creating the URL destination within the same chapter indd and pointing to it there rather than across chapters. But this is just more work to keep re-creating the same URL destination in every indd!
    I'll keep running into these problems since I need to share my finished INDB with other CS3 users. I also would like to be able to do a Save As of the INDB when creating a revised, newer version, but I see this also results in the new INDB links/hyperlinks still pointing to the original INDB's assets! Any way to make the Save As update the Links/Hyperlinks in the new INDB?
    Thanks greatly for any insight. I can find no help in the Help on these issues!

    The title of the post is this
    How can I preserve row and column addresses on multiple cells at once in Numbers?
    I restated the Question as follows
    Can "Preserve Row" an / or "Preserve Column" be set on multiple cells at the same time.
    In both cases it is not asked if multiple cells can be set to....
    That is a given.
    Step back a second...  It is like selecting multiple cells and setting the text color of the currently selected cells to red. This can be done. More than one cell at a time modified because they are currently selected.
    Whats is being asked is:  if more than one cell is selected at the same time can the settings "Preserve Row" an / or "Preserve Column" be applied. No table I put up will help with that question.
    YES or NO
    If YES how?

  • Books and INDD

    I have searched long and hard and cannot find my answer ANYWHERE.
    My company deals with spec sheets (hundreds of spec sheets). They need to be updated on a weekly basis in some cases. Right now, the same spec sheet is duplicated among many catalogs, so each time a spec is changed, I have to update it across 5 or 6 places. They appear not only by themselves in print, but within multiple catalogs. My thought was to make each spec sheet it's own INDD file, and then create a book based on which files need to be in that book. Here's my question-
    If Book A is purple, and Book B is green, and one spec sheet appears in both, is there a way to apply styles (like master pages) to a book, so that despite the fact that the spec document has no footer, but when placed in Book A the footer will appear purple, but when put in Book B it can adapt to the style of that book, without having multiple versions of that spec just to match the color style?

    The short answer is "yes."  Use the Synchronize feature of the book operation.
    The longest answer is also "yes," but, you need to pay very close attention to how you design the component files for each book. The reason is that Synchronize applies the styles and other settings from a "Style Source" file - a component file in a book - to all selected files in the book; if the style source file differs from a component file that it's synchronized to, the style source's settings "win."
    Assuming that the style source file in Book A is correct for synchronizing all the files in Book A, and the style source file in Book B is correct for synchronizing all the files in Book B, then you can include the common file name (or names, if multiple files are involved) in both Book A and Book B, and you can expect the common files to take on the correct formatting when you synchronize each book. You will need to remember to resynchronize each book when you work with it, so that settings from the other book aren't retained.
    Beside the color scheme being different in the books, you may find that the page numbers of the common files change, if they're consecutive numbers across chapters. Also, cross-reference formats that include page numbers, and other numbering schemes that continue across files through the books may change.
    The medium answer is to create two new books - A1 and B1. Include the style source file for book A in A1, and the style source file for book B in B1; also include the common file(s) in A1 and B1. Also, include the common files in A and B. To use book A, synchronize book A1; this makes the common file(s) appropriate for book A. To use Book B, synchronize book B1; this makes the common file(s) appropriate for book B.

  • CS5 - Placed Indesign files vs placed PDF files

    Does anyone have any information as to wether is better to create indesign layouts with 100+ placed Indesign files or PDF files? Does one produce more efficient / bulletproof PDF(for print) in the end? We produce many layouts with 100+ placed images and are thinking of switching to placing indesign files within a larger indesign layout.

    I've noticed that placing 100's of InDesign files/ pages into other InDesign document causes my system to slow down.
    In the case of placing 100's of files inside another, I find the PDFs seem to work better.
    This is something I have to do when working on a book file. I don't have imposition software. So I have to use the Print Booklet from time to time.
    I can place the 100 indesign files into another document. But that takes time. But I can PDF the entire book in a single go. From there I can import the 1000's of pages into InDesign via a script http://indesignsecrets.com/placing-all-the-pages-of-a-pdf-inside-indesign.php
    I can then proof the book on screen as it would look when printed. Something not really possible to do with a normal Book in InDesign. Checking double page spreads that break across chapters is a particular thing I have to look for and make sure are working.
    From here I can make Print Booklet for in-house "proofing" and use the term "proofing" loosely, as it's just to check that the DPS across spreads are ok before sending off to the printers to get the real proofs.

  • Restarting footnote numbers based on Styles

    Is there a way to restart the footnote numbering based on a Style. I have a long document which has 120 chapters with numerous footnotes (Academic book) and I need the footnotes to restart on each chapter. I have a style that is the chapter header. I want the footnotes to restart the numbering based on this style. Short of manually entering 120 section break is there a way to this automatically? As the document is in flux (with many chapter/text reflows) I want to be able have the footnotes restart for each chapter. Does anyone know how to do this?

    David W. Goodrich wrote:
    As you have probably discovered, you can re-start numbering with "sections" (Pages palette) but those are linked to pages so if a given chapter flows onto a new page you'd need to add a page wherever this happened lest subsequent sections get out of whack.
    Really? Did you try that? In my expereince footnotes do not restzart with section breaks. They DO restart at the beginning of a new story, so if each chapter is its own story, and not threaded to other chapters, whether in a book or a single file, the numbers will restart.
    This is the opposite of the complaint we usually get that people want number to continue across chapters.

  • When I change a tag in one chapter, how do I get it to update across all chapters?

    Good day everyone!
    I just updated a TableTitle tag. When I clicked Update All, it fixed everything in that chapter. I have 17 chapters and need the TableTitle tag to be updated across all the chapters.
    How do I do that? I hope I don't have to copy the code and fix the tag in each chapter...I'm sure that is the long, unnecessary route.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    YES!
    It worked.
    Thanks Van and Error. (Thanks for being so dependable, Error)
    This is what I was doing wrong: I was going File>Import formats but hadn't selected the files, so I was wondering why nothing was changing. Ha! Small steps.
    Follow up question: When I'm in the Import Formats box, why do I selected just the Paragraph Formats and not the Table Formats box when it is a table format that I just fixed? That's another thing I was doing--selecting Table Formats and then updating.

  • How can I get saddle stitch to work across several chapters in the book panel?

    I have been able to get saddle stitching to work perfectly if I print from a single InDesign document by going to “Print Booklet”. The problem I am having is that I can’t get it to work across several documents that are from the same book. The position of the pages is only correct from within the chapter that is selected. In other words it will put the first and last page number from the chapter on the same page but only from within that chapter not the whole book. The way saddle stitching should work is to have the first page of the book and the last page of the book on the same piece of paper. How can I get that to work? I have been flipping through books and the internet for quite some time and I can't find the answer to this.
    Your help is much appreciated. I have been working on this book for a long time (my first one) and I am looking forward to finally getting this completed!

    For some reason Adobe never saw it fit to allow Print Booklet to work from the Book Panel!
    Weird
    Workaround -
    Export the Whole Book to a PDF
    Create a new document of the same dimensions
    Look up Zanelli Multi Page Import for InDesign
    http://indesignsecrets.com/placing-all-the-pages-of-a-pdf-inside-indesign.php
    Then Print Booklet from the New Document.
    The important thing to remember is that InDesign is a page layout tool. Yes it can allow you output single documents in a booklet it's a nice feature.
    Ultimately though impositions should be done by printers themselves using specialised Imposition Software.
    If you need to do this quite often then I think you should look into Quite Imposing plugin for Acrobat.

  • Help with autonumbering chapters

    Hi there,
    I'm a relative newbie to FrameMaker, as I don't use it very often, so please forgive me if this is a silly problem. I've inherited a FrameMaker manual from the person who had my job previously, and for the first time in three years I've had to add new chapters to the project. I upgraded from 7.2 to 9 recently. However, I am unable to get the new chapter autonumbers correct. From what I could gather from FrameMaker help, I seem to have these options set up correctly:
    Chapter Numbering Properties: For example, the first chapter I added is set as chapter # 21, and the Continue Numbering From Previous Chapter in Book option is selected.
    In the Paragraph Designer, the chapter.number format (which is used to display the chapter number on the title page of each chapter) has a formula for C:<n+>, exactly the same as the other chapters that have correct numbering.
    I've checked the options in the Customize Text Frame box, and the Flow appears to be correct (Tag is A, and Autoconnect is selected). Again, these settings are the exact same in the previous chapters.
    Despite all this, every new chapter I added is showing up as Chapter 1 on the title page and in the running footer, and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to get this manual finished up before I go on vacation Friday and this is my last hurdle, so any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Van is quite correct when he says:
    "If you want to update the numbering system and handle the chapter numbering as chapter numbers, then in the paragraph designer for the chapter title format, replace the C:<n+> with <$chapnum> You have to do this for each chapter file; the easy way is to do it one file and then import the paragraph format into the other files; with the fixed file open, select the other files in the book file, select File > Import > Formats, select only the paragraph formats."
    But I'd make the recommendation much stronger. The old style numbering you inherited went away about version 6, and I suspect the <$chapnum> variable is used internally now in a number of ways. If it doesn't exist / isn't set up properly, you're going to have other problems down the road when you invoke things that use it.
    The second step in converting to this system is setting up your book file to interact with the updated tag. You need to highlight the first numbered chapter in the book file, right-click, select Numbering > Chapters and set the first chapter to 1. Apply and save.
    Then highlight all numbered chapters _except_ the first one, right click, and set those chapter numbering properties to Continue from previous...
    Then save and update the book.

  • Autonumber formats change after topics are linked across projects

    We are going from Robohelp HTML x5.0.2 to Robohelp HTML 8.0.2.208, so there is obviously a huge learning curve that we are working through.  We generate to WebHelp and merge 15 projects into a published master.  Our users view the output on our intranet using Internet Explorer 7.
    We loved the autonumber format feature in version 8 (particularly the additional bullet styles available and no longer needing to manually renumber steps when something was inserted or deleted), but have run into a problem.
    The autonumber items work fine in the projects and when generated and published into the merged master, but when we need to add a link from a topic in one project to a topic in another project it changes the bullets and numbering.
    Example:
    We have a topic in Project A that references a topic in Project B (both projects are part of the merged master).
    We insert a link in the Project A topic to the topic in Project B (using Insert Hyperlink - Link To - File).  Everything in both A and B look fine at this point.
    We preview the topic Project A by clicking on "View Selected Item" (eyeglasses) and then click on the link we inserted to validate it works.  This causes the topic in project B to now have stutter-text for bullets and numbers (i.e., what used to say "1. Step" now says "1. 1. Step").  As more links are added to that topic, it adds more bullets and numbers to the linked topic:
    1.     1.     1.     Procedure
    ●       ●       ●       Bullet
    o       o       o       Bullet2
    §        §        §        Bullet3
    □       □       □       Bullet4
    This does not happen when adding links to topics that are in the same project, only when linking to topics that are in another project.
    All of our topics are created directly in RoboHelp; we do not import files from Word, FrameMaker, etc.  Each of our projects has the same style sheet (we created 1 CSS file and copied it into each project so that they were all identical).
    All of our version 8 projects were created from scratch in version 8, and we have been importing our version 5 topics one by one (and deleting the version 5 styles assigned to them), then applying the applicable version 8 style to each line.  We have attempted creating brand new topics in version 8 to make sure no old legacy version 5 code imported from an old project was causing the issue, and it still happens.  We have tried manually cleaning up the HTML code for the topic and it happens again once a cross-project link is added back to that topic.  We also tried the "Convert RoboHelp edited topics to HTML" to try to get around the XHTML restrictions and it still happened to everything that was an autonumber format, so it appears the issue is something with that one of these.  We created styles for each autonumber format we wanted to use (using the options available for Paragraph styles in the Robohelp Style editor), this is a sample of one of them:
    p.Bullet {
                    list-style: rh-list;
                    x-list-class: rl-p-Bullet;
                    x-list-level: 1;
    rh-list.rl-p-Bullet {
                    x-level-count: 1;
                    x-lvl-1-format: "<x>";
                    x-lvl-1-type: disc;
    While it would be really great to have the additional features of the autonumber format, it may not be a viable option for us since it is only available on the paragraph level and Robohelp 8 does not appear to play well with bullets and numbers in anything other than the list level.  I'm thinking I may need to abandon our current style sheet that uses autonumbering and start over with a new style sheet using only the limited bullets and numbering available on the list level (or possibly go old-school and just use the bullet and number toolbar buttons to add formatting to normal text).  We are about 8,000 topics into our conversion of 40,000.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    I'd love to send you the test projects I set up, but unfortunately my company has blocked that ability.  I created brand new blank projects in Robohelp 8 using the default style sheet with an autonumber bullet and numbered step added and nothing else.  I thought this bare-minimum approach would be the best way to make sure it wasn't something we had set up incorrectly that on our end.  I used the default First Topics in each project and added numbered and bullet texts using the style sheet to Project 1 and then added a link to that topic in Project 2.  I didn't even generate the projects and I still had the issue when I previewed the Project 2 topic and clicked the link.
    I've attached a copy of the info on the topic in Project 1 and the code behind the scenes for it below:
    First Topic
    1.     1.     1.     Procedure

  • RE: (forte-users) XMLParser-Node : Serializing parts of aDOM across par

    I managed to solve this problem with the help of
    Sanjeev Sondur and Girish Nair from Sun.
    The Solution suggested is as follows :
    Whenever a node is supposed to passed as a parameter
    for an inter-partition call. We have marshal and
    UN-Marshalling :
    - Create a new document.
    - Clone the node in the context on the new document
    - Append the node to the new document
    - Serialize the document into a MemoryStream which is
    a attribute of the object (SerializedNode) that
    is passed in Lieu of a Node.
    - On the other end UnMarshall by DeSeralizing the Document
    and then reading the node.
    Code Follows :
    SerializedNode::SerializeNode(pNode);
    NewDoc : document = new();
    lNode : node;
    if pNode <> nil then
    -- This clones the node from an old document and creates it
    -- in the context of the new document.
    lNode = NewDoc.ImportNodeFromDocument(pNode, deep = true);
    -- You can then attach to the any part of DOM (I am using
    child of root)
    NewDoc.appendchild(lNode);
    end if;
    -- _mStream is MemoryStream
    mStream.Open(Framework.SPAM_WRITE, IsBinary = TRUE);
    _mStream.seek(0);
    _mStream.WriteSerialized(NewDoc);
    _mStream.close();
    On the other end I Unmarshall it
    SerializedNode::GetNode()
    mStream.Open(Framework.SPAM_READ, IsBinary = TRUE);
    _mStream.seek(0);
    NewDoc : document = (Document)(_mStream.ReadSerialized());
    lNode : node = NewDoc.getFirstChild();
    if lNode = NIL then
    task.lgr.putline(' In GetNode : Node was NIL');
    end if;
    return lNode;
    Note : This can use used for read-only access to parts of the DOM.
    across partitions.

    Subject: (forte-users) XMLParser-Node : Serializing parts of a DOM
    across partitions
    I am modeling an Insurance-Policy as a XML document.
    One of my requirement was to pass pieces of this Policy (Node)
    to a service object for processing.
    I have discovered that the Node cannot be serialized across partitions.
    I can serialize the whole document using the exportDocument and send
    it across the partition and import it on the other end. This is fine when
    large pieces of the document have to be sent over.
    When smaller pieces of this information has to sent to a service object,
    I was planning to create a new document, extract the required nodes
    from the old document create in the new document and send the
    new document (which is a subset) across.
    I am having problems extracting a node from one document and
    creating it another document.
    I have tried node.clonenode, document.importnodefromdocument without much
    success.
    I have a choice of writing a method that creates a structure in the new
    document by
    recursively navigating the old tree and creating new nodes in the new
    document from scratch.
    Have any of you faced similar situations and come up with a more elegant
    solution.
    Please share.
    Thanks

  • I upgraded to firefox 4 and lost the visual images of all pages I have open at the same time across the bottom of the screen. remainder of question in first para below.

    It just said my question was too long so I will move part of it here: Here goes:
    I really need this instead of the sloid block/box/square with text names of all open pages. I uninstalled the level 4 download but cant seem to get one of the level 3 versions to download and install properly. Can you help me get the next to last version back?
    I just need to get the lateste level 3 version back due to what I stated above.
    I have attempted to download a verson a few times but it hasn't worked.

  • Can you change a story or text frame's index? (re autonumbering)

    Does anyone know if there is a way to change the index of a text frame or story without changing the actual visual layout of an InDesign document? So far all I can come up with is to cut the frame and repaste it into the document. You can move a story within the index list of a document, but that visually cuts and pastes the story text.
    actDoc.stories.item(1).move(LocationOptions.BEFORE, actDoc.stories.item(0));
    I can't see any method to change the index of a text frame (other than cutting and repasting).
    I want to put together some tests. I have a bunch of questions. Each question is a single story in a single text frame in an InDesign document. The text frame is linked to an InCopy document. The first paragraph of the question has a "QuestionNumber" style but the para style has no numbering. I want to have only one version of each question (the InCopy story) but to put the questions into different tests in different orders with different numbering. What I do is to create an InDesign template for the tests that has a QuestionNumber para style that includes autonumbering with the "Continue Numbers across Stories" option checked. This works beautifully and the questions are numbered in the order in which the text frames (and stories) are (via a script) copied from the question document and pasted into the test paper document. When the same question/story/textframe is used in two tests it is numbered in the order in which it is pasted into each test paper (but the original stays the same because it has no numbering).
    The next step would be to be able to reorder the question numbers within the test paper (if you wanted to, say, swap questions 18 and 20). To do that you have to change the index of the story because the autonumbering across stories seems to depend on the index of the story.
    What seems to happen is that stories are indexed in the order in which they are pasted into a document, but text frames are indexed in the opposite order. If you paste a text frame with one story into a new document, it is textframe.item(0) and story.item(0). If you then paste a second one into the document it is story.item(1) but textframe.item(0). The first text frame becomes textframe.item(1). When you cut a text frame and repaste it, it is reindexed as if you were pasting it for the first time.
    The autonumbering also seems to be segregated by page. If you have questions 1 and 2 on page 1 and questions 3 and 4 on page 2, you can move around the text frames for 1 and 2 on the page but the numbering stays the same. Likewise for 3 and 4. If you drag 3 across to page 1 it stays as 3 but if you drag question 4 across to page 1 it becomes 3, and the original question 3 on page 2 becomes question 4. It is confusing but makes sense in a weird way once you get the hang of it.
    Anyway, I have probably answered my own question and the best way to renumber the questions in a test is to run the script again and create a new document using a new question order.
    But any other ideas are welcome.
    Thanks.

    hi Brian
    which version of InDesign you have ?
    I have checked these steps on CS3 and CS4:
    first I've set ON to option in preferences to preserve links when placing
    then I've placed DOC file as AnchoredTF in new Story
    then I've copied this AnchoredTF and pasted it on page, and then I've pasted it as another AnchoredTF - each time there was new lick created to the same DOC file
    then I've set OFF to option in preferences to preserve links when placing
    and even when I again copied and pasted this AnchoredTF with placed DOC file - it still add new link on Links palette
    so maybe with InCopy stories there is next bug or next "feature" ...
    [edit]
    ok - I've checked InCopy file - after exporting TextFrame as InCopy Story
    and it's like you've said - pasting on page - new link is created - pasting as Anchored - link isn't created ... no matter if option in preferences is set or not ...
    verdict - we've found new bug
    BUT ... if you link it again - by CTRL+D method - link is preserved even if option in preferences is set to off so you can have more than one InCopy Story placed as AnchoredTF in same parent Story ...

  • Separate table title autonumbering for two named table styles?

    I believe this very same question whizzed by a few weeks ago but I'm having no luck searching for it.
    I have two named table styles.  I want the autonumbering for the table titles to be separate.  More specifically, one will autonumber as "Table t", while the other will autonumber as "Example e".
    I have redefined the autonumbering counter for the second of the two TableTitle para style, and if I apply that style while in that table's title, I get the new autonumbering.  But I can't transmit (a) selectively update the Table Title style to this format to other tables in the chapter.  By extension, I can't copy the  wonderful new table format to other chapters in the book.
    I next tried creating a new para style "ExampleTitle", then in the Table Designer trying Update All.  Nope, other tables of type example do not receive the new title style.
    This is fully-patched FM8.  The document is structured but I don't (want to) care about that -- I simply need to get the two different named table styles
    to autonumber sequentially.
    This is probably pretty easy once I learn the "trick"...(?)
    Cheers & thanks,
    Riley

    Arnis:
    Thanks.  For some reason I couldn't get my table to update, so I went through and manually create a second table title paragraph style, then manually applied that.  (I also created a second x-ref format so that I could x-ref to "Example n:" without including the colon in the x-ref, but that's another story...)
    So for now I've worked around the problem.  After I get this document out I'll revisit the issue.  (Why do I have a vague recollection that there's a known idiosyncracy where FM6+ table styles don't update properly...?)
    Cheers & thanks 'gain,
    Riley

  • Creating a par file

    Hello All,
    I am a newbie to SAP Netweaver platform. I am trying to create a webservice to be deployed to Enterprise Portal to be called from a .NET application. I have SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio and SAP NetWeaver 7.1 Composition Environment SP03 PAT0000 on my laptop.
    I have used the Enterprise Portal Application perspective to create the project to create a portal application. I have written the code necessary ( not functional just to test) andI am trying to see how to deploy it toEnterprise Portal. Going thru the forums and docs I see the way to do this would be to generate a par file and deploy to the server. The common options I came across are to right click on the project and do "Quick Par Upload". The problem is that when I right click on the project in the studio I do not see this option. I am at a total loss at this point to figure out why.
    The other option I saw was to do Right click on project and then do a export of type par. Again I do not see this option but only see SAP WAR and SAP EAR - nothing which says par.
    Reading thru the forums I saw suggestions which says where I should go to Window->Preferences to set up J2EE servers. Again I do not see that option. IS there something obvious that I am missing?
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sujith

    Hi Sujith,
    Please Check these,
    To deploy a par file into potal you have to select "Export" option when u right click on the project
    Your  project should be in Enterprise Portal Perspective
    to do this ,
    Click on the icon with + symbol  near by Package explorer
    Select other -> choose  EP -> hit OK
    Now you can see the  EP icon under the icon with + symbol. click that
    Now you are in EP perspective
    Follow these steps to upload par into portal:
    Rightclick ur project -> Export ->Next -> Select ur project ->
    configure server settings -> add
    Give these details:
    Alias: AnyName (Eg: DEV)
    Host: ur portral server name (eg: mydevserver u can pick this from portal url path)
    Port: portal sever port (ex:50000)
    Login:portal user name
    Description: (optional)
    click ok and enter the password
    Hit Enter.
    Now ur par file uploaded into portal
    Check:
    You can check this in ur portal system admin --> support -> portal deployemenyt -> serch for tur project name
