Availability Metric definition

What metric type/data do I need to define to have Oracle use it for it's "availability metric"? I've defined a simple target, but OEM can't find it's availability status. It reports "Availability metric not found for target ...."
Do I have to name it something specific, or is this a OEM configuration issue?

[oracle@oem ~]$ emcli add_mp_to_mpa
Error: The command name "add_mp_to_mpa" is not a recognized command.Oracle homeis set to OMS. Maybe that's the issue?
Well, my issue with the guide is, that I'm not totally sure on creating a report within OEM. I tried and it totally blew up on me. What would be really nice is an end-to-end example. Doesn't matter if it's "just" an OS command that's going to be interpreted; but the examples in the guide are incoherent and not related. And some are incomplete. It makes it hard to learn/understand. The missing reference manual doesn't make it better.
I know of the DTDs (why is Oracle still using DTDs and not using Schemas?) - however they don't explain COMPUTE_EXPR for instance (ie the expression language). And there's a lot of "holes" in explaining the different attributes and contexts. However, I've found the DTDs helpful through XML Spy because it will control what I can type where. Less error prune that way (I know, JDeveloper should be able to do that too, but it's too much work setting JDeveloper up for this stuff - and I don't even think JDeveloper will support DTDs at all to manage XML files).
I'm glad I have the latest version; but as you see I still seem to be quite lost ;) I've looked many times and I cannot find the section that talks about "availability" metrics?
I understand we can't have examples for everything - but a cohisive example through the guide would help. And a reference manual that goes into details with each attribute/element. If the DTD would have been complete there, it should be fairly easy to get the initial version going?

  • Filespace Available Metric in Grid Control with CDROMs mounted

I getting tried of filespace available alerts being generated against cdrom drives on our Sun Server. Is there are way for Grid to ignore cdroms that are mounted.

You should be aware of the following:
When you have tested your UDM and the output is what you expect, you will press [OK] and then the UDM is saved and activated.
The alert should then be shown as soon as your UDM thresholds values are reached.
The same page that gives you an overview of available UDM's will also show you an overview of each evaluation that has been done.
So, you should see for each run of the UDM, what thershold values were measured and if or not the treshold value was hit.
If you don't see this, then there is something wrong with you UDM definition.
If you make screenshots of the UDM defintoin and the output on the overview page and send them to me [email protected] then I might be able to indicate was is causing this problem.
Not a 100% fit, but you might want to take a look at ad document I created for the creation of User Defined Metric and a Notifcation Rule to be used: http://oemgc.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/creating-user-defined-metrics.pdf

  • Business Objects 3.1 Metrics definitions and recommendations

    Hi folks,
Does anybody know what is the definition of the following information in the CMC - Metrics,  global system
metrics and how it is calculated:
    System Connections
    Total Open Connections
Does each system connection create a session in the system database?
What would be the recommended number of sessions in the CMS DB for
    lets say 300 concurrent users?
    Cheers,
    John

In that screen (CMC -> Settings -> Global System Metrics), the term u201CConnectionu201D refers to Enterprise Sessions open in the CMS. u201CTotal Open Connectionsu201D is the total number of opened connections (Enterprise sessions) in your BOE cluster. Almost anything that interacts with the BOE cluster needs to log on first and open a session with the CMS : this can be end users of course from any client tool, but also internal servers when, for instance, running a job. u201CSystem Connectionsu201D is the subset of that total for all u201Cinternalu201D sessions, not directly opened by end users but by servers / components of the BOE cluster.
Tests you can do to prove the point :
    -     Log on to Infoview with any user : observe Total Open Connections increases by 1, and System Connections stays the same.
    -     Log off from Infoview : observe Total Open Connections decreases by 1, and System Connections stays the same.
    -     Log back on to Infoview (Total Open Connections increases by 1), schedule a report to run now, wait for the job to be in running state : observe both Total Open Connections and Systems Connections increase by 1.
    -     Wait for the job to complete, and when it is in a success (or failed) state : observe both Total Open Connections and System Connections decrease by 1.
    -     Log off from Infoview : observe Total Open Connections decreases by 1, and System Connections stays the same.
Note that from a licensing standpoint, only the end user session count towards the license count. This is important for all CAL licensed systems.
To summarize and answer your specific questions :
    u201CTotal Open Connectionsu201D = u201CSystem Connectionsu201D + end user open sessions
With 300 concurrent users, you would see u201CTotal Open Connectionsu201D at 300+ . The exact number of "System Connections" depends on what kind of activity the users are doing, and how many jobs are running at that time.
CMS database sessions are handled independently of Enterprise sessions : although a session is persisted in a the CMS repository, it is obviously held in memory and the CMS has also its own database connection pooling mechanism.

  • SCOM Performance/Availability metrics on VMWare guests - query

    Hi,
I'm monitoring our VMWare server infrastructure with SCOM 2012.  I'm looking for a bit of clarification Re the metrics which SCOM produces to those that are provided by vCenter.
Basically this has stemmed from seeing some alerts such as Available megabytes of Memory monitor which has alerted due to SCOM reporting the agent has < 100MB available yet the vCentre memory reports show guest has well above the threshold available and
therefore shouldnt have alerted.  So when discussing with our server team who would rely on the vCenter metrics, its causing them to lose faith in any metrics/alerts which SCOM is gathering. - the various CPU/Memory performance graphs from SCOM are not
    consistent with the vCenter ones.
Can anyone advise if the SCOM metrics are (more) reliable than the native vCenter ones as indicators of health and provide the evidence for arguing the case either way.
Any help much appreciated - and Merry Christmas :-)

    Hi,
I think you need to check the memory usage on the guest manually and compare the result. In the productive environment, please test, compare and then decide which one is more reliable and suitable in your environment.

I have received some alerts sent from Database File Space Available (%) metric about lack of space for the sysft_<Catalog_Name> datafile, but i can't manage it by Microsoft SQL Management Studio.. or not?

    Hi SBI,
From the EMGC Console, go to the SQLServer plugin homepage and click on "Metrics and Policy Settings" under the related links section of the page. Next click on the edit column (3 pencils) for the Metric "Database File Space Available (%)". This will take you to the Edit Advanced Settings page where you can specify what database files should be examined for this metric and what thresholds should be set for that particular file.

  • Migration problem - how migrate metric

CA Forum: Migration to XI R2
    hi
I migration project between two BOE XI R2. I use import wizard migration. universe, analytic and dashboard page are succeed but metric don't.
How migrate metric? who can help me.

    Post Author: rameshbalajiv
CA Forum: Migration to XI R2
    Hi:
    As per the migration guide:
If you have upgraded from BusinessObjects Enterprise 5.x/ 6.x, you can use the Import Wizard to import existing user accounts, groups, categories, Desktop Intelligence, Web Intelligence documents, universes, connection objects, universe restriction sets, and third-party documents to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2.
Importing Application Foundation objects to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI
The Import Wizard publishes the following objects from Application Foundation 6.1 and 6.5 as InfoObjects to the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI CMS:
    applications, menus and submenus
    corporate and personal dashboards
    corporate and personal analytics
    schedules and events
links in dashboards to analytics or corporate documents
universes used in metric definitions or referenced by migrated documents (and the corresponding connections)
As in previous versions, performance management products rely on a dedicated repository that stores performance management data as well as the CMS. When you migrate Application Foundation 6.1 or 6.5 to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI, you must run the Import Wizard to import certain objects to the CMS. You must also upgrade the performance management repository in the Import Wizard if you are migrating from version 6.x, or after completion of the Import Wizard in the Repository section of the System Setup page if you are migrating from XI.
For details on migrating Application Foundation, refer to the BusinessObjects 5/6 to XI Release 2 Migration Guide.
-- So it does migrate the metric definitions as part of  InfoObjects.
    Please check it out.

  • Missing metric

    Hello All,
I'm looking to have notification-alert sent from EM when
Buffer Gets per Execution is higher than 100k
Elapsed Time/Execution greater than 5 sec.
Is it possible to use any of the available metrics or I have to build some kind of UDM (any hints?)?
    Thx,

Missing Media File Count metric represents the count of missing media files.
You can remove it from monitoring template if don't need.
Here is with screenshots demonstrated that:

But basicaly under this message is select:

Do you have any rows returned?

  • Technical Monitoring - Customer Metric stays grey

    Hi experts,
I did create a customer metric (RFC PULL) which reads data from an RFC-FM.
I did create a rfc-pull template and did assign this to an customer metric and alert.
However, the metric always stays grey.
If I change the measurement to "Counter Threshold" it changes to red and displays value "0".
When I open the detailed metric i can see the correct values.
If I test the rfc pull metric with report AC_ALRT_ANALYSIS_TOOLS I get all values correct.
So the FM seems to be fine.
But I don't know how to go on, how to analyze further.

    Torsten

    Hello Torsten,
"...If we try to re install it after, we still have status down while it is up in reality...."
As per my understanding of EM, everything is based on TargetGUID, which is a combination of target-name and target-type. Based on this, you may like to give a different target-name and give it a try. (I believe, the reason things work fine is also as explained above. With a different target-type name, the TargetGUID is changed and hence, the behaviour)
However, both the approaches (a new target-name and/or new target-type name) are not ideal in nature. Check the AVAILABILITY & ALERT tables (don't remember the exact table name(s), though). One of these table holds the status value for targets (and the value is a number - a while back I had investigated on this but am not having the info handy) and the information on alert generated.
You may also like to clear agent STATEs. Agent maintains state of each metric (& target). Try following:
    1. Stop EM Agent (this is not necessary though)
    2. Execute "emctl clearstate agent" on agent system.
    3. Delete all files under emd/state, emd/recv and emd/upload
    4. Restart the agent (if step 1 was executed)
    5. Check the behaviour of the target status now on target home page
    Hope it helps !
