I'm trying to open the Business Explorer Report Designer and I get the following error:
Component 'BExReportDesigner': available version 59, version 132 required
Before you can continue you have to run front end setup
Anybody any ideas why I am getting this error and what is needed to correct it.

You do not have the latest BEx Front end patch, make sure you download the latest patch SP 12 from http://service.sap.com/patches.
59 and 132 are the versions of the patch for the BEx Front end.

Issue Summary
In Java 1.7 Update 71, Java 1.7 Update 72 and Java 1.8 Update 25 Deployment Rule Sets do not properly launch the latest available version from the JRE6 family when the jpi-version is specified by the RIA. We've noticed this with Oracle Forms and Reports 11g where we have forms that specify Java 1.6 Update 20. We used to be able to specify Java 1.6 Update 26 in our Ruleset, but now the only version a that works in our ruleset is Java 1.6 Update 20 which is the same version requested by the JPI-Version attribute of the jar. The long term solution would be to upgrade Oracle Forms and Reports, however this isn't currently in the cards.

The RuleSet works for JavaTester.org however on internaldomain.name we get the following error:
With the trace logging turned on, I suspected the version attribute supplied by the RIA. I was able to trick Java by adding the following to my system deployment.properties file:
deployment.javaws.jre.0.product=1.6.0_20
deployment.javaws.jre.0.path=C\:\\Program Files (x86)\\Java\\jre6\\bin\\javaw.exe
deployment.javaws.jre.0.enabled=true
Because the RIA requests 1.6.0_20 it matches 1.6* from the deployment ruleset sooner than 1.6.0_26. However, if 1.6.0_20 is not available 1.6.0_26 should match according to the Deployment Rule Set documentation:

The version of the JRE that is used is determined by the following order of precedence:
1. The current version of the JRE is used if it is available and matches both the version attribute and the version requested by the RIA.
2. The latest available version of the JRE is used if it matches both the version attribute and the version requested by the RIA.
3. The current version of the JRE is used if it is available and matches the version attribute.
4. The latest available version of the JRE is used if it matches the version attribute.
If no version is available that meets the criteria, then the RIA is blocked, and a message is shown to the user. To provide a custom message, include the message element.
As a result:
If Java 1.6.0_20 is listed in the version requested by the RIA and 1.6.0_20 is listed in the deployment.properties file, #1 matches.
If Java 1.6.0_20 is listed in the version requested by the RIA, but 1.6.0_20 is NOT listed in the deployment.properties file the #1 SHOULD match, but doesn’t. It used to match up-to and including JRE 1.7 Update 51 however the ruleset appears to no longer match in subsequent versions.
#2 should never match with our current Deployment Ruleset. It would match if we specified 1.7* as a version in the Ruleset.xml.
#3 used to be broken as well after JRE 1.7 Update 51 however this bug has been marked as fixed. See: http://bugs.java.com/view_bug.do?bug_id=8032781
I have reproduced this issue with Java 1.7 Update 71, Java 1.7 Update 72, and Java 1.8 Update 25 when one of these versions are installed with Java 1.6 Update 26.

When an after-market graphics card is installed into a motherboard with UEFI enabled in the system BIOS, or if the system is a certified Windows 8 PC with Secure Boot enabled, the system may not boot.
UEFI is a new system BIOS feature that is provided on most new motherboards. A UEFI system BIOS is required in order for the Windows 8 Secure Boot feature to work. Secure boot is enabled by default on certified Windows 8 PCs.
In order to get the PC to boot with a graphics card that does not contain UEFI firmware, the end-user must first disable the secure boot feature in the system's SBIOS before installing the graphics card.
Note: Some system SBIOS's incorporate a feature called compatibility boot. These systems will detect a non-UEFI-enabled firmware VBIOS and allow the user to disable secure boot and then proceed with a compatibility boot. If the system contains a system SBIOS the supports compatibility boot, the user will need to disable secure boot when asked during boot process
This leads me to believe that the BIOS update that wrecked my setup was 9SKT58A/9SJT58A, which only contains one change;
"Adds support for updating BIOS from a WIN7 BIOS to a WIN8 BIOS".
I've just ordered a cheap UEFI-compatible GT640 from Gainward, so I hope I'll be able to try that out this weekend.

Batch Versioning of Requirements Catalogs

Hi,
Suppose that I have a horde of requirements catalogs that need new versions created periodically. By this, I mean that a catalog - new catalog version pair should be filled out with the same requirements as a catalog - existing catalog version pair, and that this needs to be done for each catalog there is. If one has, say, more than a hundred catalogs, doing this manually in PIQRLCATM is tedious and error-prone....
I haven't seen such functionality in SLCM 4.72, and am wondering whether it exists in 6.0 or is planned?
Alternatively, suppose that I have the same horde of requirements catalogs, but decide that new versions should only be created on an as-needed basis. By this, I mean that a catalog - new catalog version pair should only be created when a subrequirement of a requirement in a catalog - existing catalog version pair would need to be changed. This implies that a separate version set should be maintained for each catalog. However, the version set number can only be a two-digit number, and there are more than 99 distinct catalogs.
Is the maximum size of this number increased in SLCM 6.0 or is there a plan to widen it in the future? (Changing it to a 2-character alphanumeric value would also increase the range, but not as much as making it a 4-digit decimal number.)

Thanks for your reply.
I guessed that someone was going to say that I was misusing version sets with one version set per requirements catalog. So, let me explain how I arrived at that situation.... The format of our university's undergraduate program is currently such that a student can choose a different yearly version of the undergraduate catalog for each major or minor (academic specialization) signed, plus another yearly version of the undergraduate catalog for the general education and degree requirements. This implies that we cannot have a single undergraduate catalog for our SAP implementation, because otherwise there would be no way to disambiguate which yearly version of the catalog matches which CG or SC. (At least, I believe this to be true based on my testing plus previous discussions in this forum.)
As an example, a student could be registered for a SC with a catalog "Bachelor of Science" and version "2005 - 2006", a CG with a catalog "Physics" and version "2006 - 2007", and another CG with a catalog "Mathematics" and version "2007 - 2008". Now, if we had a single catalog "Undergraduate", which contained the rule containers for the degree and the majors, there would not be a way to figure out which yearly version of the "Undergraduate" catalog went with which requirement.
So, it appears that we are compelled to have a separate catalog for each undergraduate major and minor, as well as a separate one for each degree program. The questions about version sets then enter the picture. The path of least maintenance would be to keep a separate version set for each catalog, and then only create new versions (with one or more subrequirements replaced) in that version set as university curriculum changes for the given program or specialization. This is the "on-demand" or "as-needed" scenario that I presented in my original post to this thread. The problem, of course, is the domain of the available version set numbers.
To get around this limitation, I developed an alternative proposal, and that was the "batch update" scenario. In that scenario, we can use a single version set for all catalogs, but there will be lots of extra maintenance and redundancy. If SAP does not plan on extending the domain of the available version set numbers, then I think that we are forced to follow the batch update approach. But, maybe there is a third approach to the problem that I have not yet considered...?
Additional Comments:
To clarify the remark about manual copying being error-prone, yes, I meant that someone could overlook a copy or put the wrong rule container in a catalog - especially with that many catalogs to be processed.
As far as a "default version" goes, I assume you are talking about something different than the default version that one can already assign to version sets (for the purpose of deriving requirements without an explicit catalog version being given)? I am not sure that what you suggest would help with the problem. But, if you want to explain your proposal further, I might be able to give a yes or no answer.
Your remark about "changing" subrequirements is actually what I had in mind, when I said "change". I should have chosen a different word. So, yes, I meant unassign and then add a new replacement.

VL10 A - Data type "LIKPVB" was found in a newer version than required

hi Gurus!
in transaction VL10A i get a short dump that states that the data type LIKPVB was reloaded and but in a newer version than required in program RVV50R10C.
I checked the abap dictionary for the data type and it said that it was modified a month ago by SAP.
To my knowledge no new configuration or notes ware applied around this period.
The solution that the dump indicates is really wise "try to restart the program".
I searched for sap notes that would apply or sdn posts and came up empty.
Please help !

Can someone point me in the right direction to find out whcih JDK version is required for NWDS v 7.01.07.
I currently have j2sdk1.4.2_19 installed but I am getting a build error when creating a new project from ESS of:
No 'default' JDK defined, will use running VM.
The TARGET variable for the shortcut and JAVA_HOME env variables are set.
The JRE_SRCROOT variable in NWDS is empty.

After downloading FF latest version which requires restart to finish, the new vs. just will not load. Everytime I try to open the FF Icon, I get the same restart required window. My PC runs WinXP, XP suggested the following:

What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.

What OS version is required for iTunes 7.3.2?

I'm not on the internet at home, and my iPod is no longer recognised by iTunes, and it tells me to do a Restore, but it won't let me as I'm not on the internet... So I brought my iPod into work, updated iTunes on one of the Macs here, which is running 10.4.nothing, and now iTunes won't even open. I get a message saying it requires 10.4.7 or later, which is NOT what it says on Apple's website. Does iTunes 7.3.2 really need OS 10.4.7???

Thanks, but ****, I got as far as reading 10.3.9 or later, thought that 10.4 IS later, read that 10.4.10 was only required for the iPhone, and let software update install it. I'm surprised it did it if it can't run on this OS. Do you know if there's any way I can install an older version? I have 7.1.1 (I think) with me, and I wouldn't mind installing that. I pretty much HAVE to install something, as this is a machine at work, and I'm very reluctant to upgrade the OS without authority...

EPM 11.1.2.1 (new version) hardware requirements

We are looking to build a development environment that would be running Planning, Workspace, ESSBase and SQL. We already have one server that is running all of these components, the server specs on that box are:
2 x Xeon E5540 / 2.53 GHz - RAM 8 GB, with an additional 4 GB of RAM and 2 x 72 GB SAS 10k HD and 2 x 146 GB SAS 15K HD
We would like to plan for the future and would like this system to be able to support the version of EPM that is set to come out later on this year. I can't seem to find any hardware specs for that version, so I was hoping you guys could confirm if the specs laid out above would be sufficient or if we should look to build a beefier server? The dev environment would only be for around 10-15 users.

Depending on number of users, how you use the system, and product sets the install guide requirements can be a little light especially on ram.
For a small all in one server I recommend at least 16 GB of ram for a development machine and at least 24 GB for more of a production machine. You should realize putting everything all on one machine limits your future growth.

But as far as mini sap goes SAP has given the previlages to work in ABAP in Mini Sap .
You can write your code develop the tables but there is no fucntional part attached to it .

Yes, it's only 64 bit. It no longer runs unfer the Air platform, it's a native application.
