Avchd only stereo; 25i vs. 50i?

Hello everyone,
I have just imported media from my Sony HDR-XR500VE. I was eager to use surround sound.
But still I only have stereo sound - although the camcorder is set to surround sound.
Another problem: FCP shows the video as 1080i 25i - but it should be 1080i 50i. Or does "25i" mean "50 interlaced fields = 25 frames per second"?

the old apps are on my computer but they have had upgrades since they were put on the ipod originally. you think you would get a warning about this when you restored. I was not worried about losing the progress of the apps but i would have been worried about the app it self!!!!!

5.1 sound while in Vista - only Stereo in Game

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Professional SeriesDriver: Latest CL DriverGame: America's Army 2.8. uses OpenAL sound 5.1 sound works fine while in Vista, but when I play game it's only in stereo. If I tab out of the game and back to Vista, I can play 5. sound, go back to game only stereo. The game plays 5. sound in Windows XP. I have tried with XP Compatibility Mode on and off - no difference. AA is based on UT. Any suggestions?

If you haven't already make sure you uncheck "System driver" in the AA in game audio settings. Why they called it that is anyone's guess as what that setting does is determine whether the game uses its own OpenAL (which is 3-4 years old, and who knows how many OpenAL updates behind), or uses the OpenAL that gets installed with your cards drivers (or download and install yourself).
It is too bad the AA devs and PB don't get they're collective thumbs out and allow you to replace the one that comes in the game with the latest like you can in BF2.

Import AC3 5.1, export only stereo

this is my second issue.
I have audio files in 48khz AC3 5.1, I can import them to my m footage, but from that moment on it is only stereo.
Premeiere Elemty V13 does not support AC3 5.1?
I am also not able to tell PremElemts to use my ASIO, it only shows a WDM-driver which is not active on my computer, there is only ASIO and my window 7 sound does the "bling" on every speaker in the testpanel.
(my sound equipment does AC3 5.1 I make the surroundfiles by myself, in VEGAS they work correctly -tested this on a computer with my friend...the files are OK)
togehter with my 60P issue those issues would bring me to ask the community.
from ADOBE there is no answer except :"we support AC3" but AC3 is not AC3 - there is 5.1 which I use and 2.0 which I dont use.

I am very surprised about your competence, from which I hope I can make use.surround is not THAT important. the 60P issue was much heavier. my little testvideo looked realy bad in 30P...now that I can export 60P I will try to do some 5.1 videos.
I will read your instructions and try them. I will let you know.not today, today I am checking other issues.

X-Fi Fatal1ty: only stereo sound in WMP11 with 7.1 spakers

M problem seems a simple but annoying one: I have a Creative T700 (or was it 7700? anyway, 7. analog speakers of Creative) and I recently upgraded to X-Fi Fatalty. I like using Windows Media Player , but when I play something, sound only comes from front left and right speakers, not from whole seven speakers. but If I play the same thing from Creative MediaSource, 5, everything's just fine.
I have the latest drivers, I tried every setting of speakers and CMSS 3D but I could not solve the problem. Is there any way to get sound from all speakers in WMP?
PS: I'm using XP SP2, btw...

I have a similar issue. If I play video with an AC3 track, the audio is only stereo when played from Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player. Playing the video in the PowerDVD works fine though. It's not too annoying to load up all of my ripped movies in PowerDVD, but it would be nice to get MPC and WMP working correctly.

GD580 + Audigy 2 ZS + Digital Out 5.1 = only stereo

Alright, I didn't think this would be so complicated, but maybe it is. I just purchased a Creative Inspire GD580 5.1 surround speaker setup. I have an Audigy 2 ZS PCI sound card. I want to connect the digitial out to my speaker setup using the digital out on my Audigy 2 ZS. My main reason for the surround setup is for gaming. So far I have only been able to get stereo sound with both gaming AND DVD movies.
Anyone who can enlighten me on how to do this, I would be very grateful.

Optical and digital coax connections can't carry multichannel audio, only stereo. The only way to get multichannel via digital is if it is an AC3 bitstream. Creative also use a 4-pole connector that can carry multichannel digital but your speakers must have a digital DIN connection to use this feature. Otherwise for games, you must use the analogue connections. For your movies, you can use your digital connection, but you must select SPDIF output in the DVD software and select SPDIF pass through in the soundcard options. This way your speakers will decode the AC3 bitstream.

A suggestion to Creative moderators: I think it would be a good idea for Creative to supply a guide with the sound cards and speakers on the various types of connections. Stuff like the capabilities/limitations of each connection and details on AC3 and the way games output audio. There seems to be so many people confused by the multitude of connection possibilities (I was at first).

Satellite L650-PSK1JE - can't get 5.1 or sound - only stereo

I have Toshiba sattelite L650-PSK1JE with mobility radon 5650, and is connected via HDMI to my sony reciever
whitch is then via another HDMI connected to TV.
Problem is that I can't get 5.1 or quadrophonic sound from notebook, only stereo.
I have tried installing drivers from TOSHIBA web site, and also drivers from other sites (everi time deleteng old drivers) and still can't get it to work. Currently have ATI 12.6 drivers. and official conexant audio drivers .
In sound propertis it says that max number of chanels is 2. But in graphics card manual it is said that it suports up to 7.1 via HDMI.
Funny thing is that once (but only once) surround sound worked, and i had a choice to select 5.1.
Is there possibility that i need to do something with mi sony DH520 reciever.

Im not expert for this but, as far as I know in the past Toshiba has offered notebooks with optical sound port (red light inside the sound-out port) and it was possible to get 5.1 sound activating available 5.1 option in sound settings. Toshiba has offered it on Qosmio and some Satellite notebooks.
Out of curiosity: do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your notebook?
I want to buy Pioneer VSX-S500 so this is very interesting for me to know if you will be able to get it work properly.

I have a 2012 mac mini with a mini toss link to toss link cable connected to an a/v reciever (Sunfire, grand theater 3) capable of dolby digital and dts. I am not getting 5.1 digital audio only stereo audio. Midi setup format 48000 hz 2ch-16 bit integer. In speaker configuration stereo is the only option all others are grayed out. How can I get this to work? Please help.

You should set up as 24bit integer. Toslink does not support
multi-channel encoded over a 16bit link. Just not enough
bits available.

Dark Knight digital download NOT in DD 5.1, only stereo?

Wasn't sure where else to post this, but my Bluray copy of the Dark Knight included a digital copy of the movie. I downloaded it through iTunes, expecting it to be in 5.1 surround sound for my AppleTV2, but it is just stereo. Other digital downloads are in 5.1, like Black Swan and Inception.
Have others noticed this?
Does one have to BUY the movie through iTunes to get the 5.1 surround sound?

The file will have two audio tracks, a stereo one and an AC3 one, the tv will only play the stereo one but will pass the AC3 audio to anything capable of playing it through either HDMI or optical output. If you aren't getting 5.1, either your equipment doesn't support it or you have it connected improperly.
If the file simply has 6 channel AAC then you will need equipment that will play that, most receivers won't play 6 channel AAC, so you may only hear stereo if this is the case.

I have a new desktop, OS Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bits, an Intel Quad Processor GB of memory. Everything runs very well except my audio card Creative Audigy 2. I installed ONLY the indicated (by creative site) driver but with a 4. speakers system I only can ear stereo (in the 4 speakers) and Creative Audio Consolde has no options to show me at the separator where I should select my speaker system. hey sorry to disappear. i got buried b work. but the problem was simple to resolve. in the arrange window on the bottom left there is a speaker icon that mutes stereo output, when selected. i was looking for all of the mutes and solos, including on the stereo bus, but only in the mix window.

Vista - Gears of war " OpenAL " only stereo so

this is the 3rd game i installed this month on vista 64bit and again am only getting front stereo.
i opened Gears of war game directory and found wrap_oal.dll & openal32.dll in there, no changes needed for game other than editing the setting .ini file to to force the game to use creative labs openal32 but still am only getting front stereo!!!!
i already finished bioshock and stalkers and both running on openal 4. channels
FIX THE **bleep** DRIVER!!!

Audigy 2 ZS : only stereo output from SP

Hi everybody,
Please let me explain you my problem : I have an Audigy 2 ZS sound card that I want to connect to my CambridgeAudio DD & DTS amplifier. To achieve this, I have set everything up to be as transparent as possible on the computer (that means, no decoding is performed neither by the sound card nor by any software) so that the raw stream goes to the "digital coax in" on my amplifier. I use a mini-jack to RCA adapter and then a coax cable to the amplifier.
Now the result of all this : even though my amplifier detects it receives a DD or DTS signal (it is displayed on the front panel), I can only hear stereo.
Any ideas ? I've installed new drivers, deinstall, reinstall, etc... none of this worked.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated before I try and check whether this card can fly (just kiddin').

If you are playing a Dolby Digital or DTS source, the stream should go through to the amplifier/decoder you have connected, and play it properly. Just make sure you set your DVD software's audio option to SPDIF or Bypass aswell. It may be set to 5./6 speaker now, in which case the software will decode the signal. Some trial versions of applications will not support this feature or setting.
If you are playing music/games or another similar source, then it is not a Dolby Digital or DTS source, and what you're experiencing is normal. Check this page for more detail:

in log&transfer you may convert AVCHD to ProRes.
In the log&transfer window click on the top right button with a gear like icon
and in the pop down menu select preferences. There you should be able to make your choice.

Avchd-1080/50i problem

Hello! I have a sony HDR-AX2000 (avchd) , I film in 1080/50i FX and I import from the cam into final cut pro x(I also use apple prores).
Yesterday I noticed that my project properties were incorrect: format-1080iHD resolution-1920x1080 rate-25i.
I filmed in 1080/50i FX (24mbps)... So.. how can I modify my project? Do I must import the footage another time?(I have the footage on the cam)
PS: I can also rec. in 1080/50i FH (17 mbps) or 1080/50i HQ (9mbps) or 1080/50i LP (5 mbps) or 1080/25 p FX or 1080/25p FH... Is one of these formats best for fcpx?

50i is a stupid nomenclature. It means your video is 50 fields, 25 frames per second. FCP rightly uses the nomenclature 25i or 25p to indicate media that's 25fps either interlaced or progressive. Your media is 25i.

When I'm connecting laptop to receiver trough optical cable and trying to watch movies with AC3 5.1 sound, I'm getting only stereo sound.
1. Receiver is working correctly with PS3 and DVD player.
2. In S/PDIF options I have configuration with only 2 speakers.

Im not sure if you will be able to watch movies with AC 5.1 sound.
The point is that this notebook supports the Audio Format: 24bit (DAC, playback), 16bit (ADC, recording), stereo.
Furthermore it would be very interesting to know where you have found the S/PDIF jack. ?:|
In my knowledge this notebook supports only mic jack and headphone jack.
The headphone jack lets you connect _stereo_ headphones or other audio-output devices as external speakers. I didnt find any S/PDIF jacks.
I have connected my notebook to a hifi and in my case the HiFi equipment produces the 5.1 sound and not the notebooks sound card!
