Avchd output to bluray

Hi all  I read this on Adobe site "AVCHD output to Blu-ray NEW Publish content from AVCHD cameras to Blu-ray using the high-quality native camera format. By passing AVCHD content directly to disc without transcoding, Encore preserves the original fidelity of the source content."  How can i do this? I don't find the opportunity to export avchd without transcoding  I edit with première pro cs5 and send the work(avchd 1080i50) to encore with dynamic link, but when i export my work encore always trancoding and the final quality is worse t han origina l clip What's wrong?  Hi and tnx for your help Alex

I was trying to do the same thing, take AVCHD footage, edit it, and then bring it into Encore
CS5 to create menus and burn to disc.  FINALLY I found a way to do this.  You can't use Premiere
Pro at all for this.  You CAN edit the footage in another program that will allow you to save the edited file in AVCHD.
For example Corel videostudio Pro X3 (around $60.00) allows you to do this- although with crappy menu
options- no submenus etc.  So... edit the file in VideoStudio (do not create any menus), save it as AVCHD, and then import it into Encore.  In Encore you will see it say for Blue Ray "Do Not Transcode"  this is what you want to see.  Then create whatever menus etc. you want and burn it to disk.

  • AVCHD output Blurry

    Hello everyone,
I have footage that was taken at 1920x1080 60P AVCHD on a sony hdr-xr260v. I am using PPro cs4, updated to 4.2.1. I have imported it in different settings, including a custom set for 60p that matches everything on the original footage. Everything seems fine when I am editing, but when I go to output it to the media encoder the video has a slight blur to it. I am attempting to take 60p to 30, but that should be no problem if I use 29.97 drop frame. Ultimately what I am intending to do is upload this to youtube at full HD at 30p, as youtube does not like interlaced footage. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to get it to output without the blur but I have hit a brick wall. I have included screenshots of what I am talking about. Any help is appreciated.
    Original
    Output

Thank you Ann, that seemed to clear it up. I also made a timeline that matched the output of 29.97 fps and it seemed to have less chopiness as well. AVCHD has been a pain in the bum, my camera has two settings, 60P and 60i. I figure if youtube prefers 30p then shooting 60p and going down to 30p should be no problem, but everytime I would go to output it would be blurry, look horrably interlaced, or come out choppy.
Here is the test on youtube that I did with the new settings.

  • What is the best image size to import to Elements 7 for use in HD 1920 x 1080 video being output to BluRay?

Steve's book (love it!) suggests something like 1000 x 750 which seems too small for HD.  It would seem that 1920 x 1080 would not require any scaling or adjustment for use in a HD wide screen BluRay project.

The 1000x750 size is based on SD Project and Assets. In your case, you'd want 1920x1080, if that is your output Frame Size. If you will need to pan on any images that are fully zoomed out, you should calculate the amout of pan that you need, and then resize to that, keeping the Frame Sizes as close as you can to your Project.

  • HDV Input to AVCHD Output?

Can I import thru my cam HDV, and then render it and output it to AVCHD (Mem Stick)? Wondering if it is possible to do zo that I can watch in HiDef on my PS3..?

Yes, I have a PS3 setup for previewing FCE edited video and you can export from FCE through QT-PRO using a .MP4 compliant HD format and transfer the file to the PS3 via whatever storage medium/communications network the PS3 supports such as wired ethernet, WiFi, SD-CARD, USB memory stick, Ipod, Apache web server, UPnP media server, etc. .

  • Settings to output to BluRay using Compressor

I have a sequence I need to output to Blu-Ray, and yes, I have a Blu-Ray burner. I know I need to use Compressor to do the Blu-Ray encoding, but what settings do I use to export out of FCP?

Well, I've run into a bit of a problem. I exported the video, and then exported the 6-channel audio. I then used Compressor to create the .ac3 for the audio, but the Blu-Ray template wants to use the "audio" from the vide file -- of which there is none. If I export the Quicktime movie, with the timeline set to 5.1, will the whole thing be exported as one file...? And will it be properly assigned as far as speaker placement, i.e., L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs?
    Thanks again

  • AVCHD output to 16:9 DVD has glitches

I have a Panasonic HMC150 camera and we shot some footage in 1080 60i. After editing the native files in Premiere Pro CS4 I opened Encore and tried numerous times to burn a 16:9 DVD.  I tried using dynamic link and letting Encore do the encoding.  I tried Exporting a DVD Compatible Mpeg2 file.  I tried exporting an NTSC AVI file, but every time the DVD is burned there are 1 or 2 glitches in the final video on the DVD.
The segment isn't very long (only about three minutes), but I keep getting glitches where the video seems to stutter for a second, jumping back a few frames, repeating a few, then jumping back to the correct spot.
    Anyone else had these issues?

    Harm Millaard wrote:
However your AVI result is pretty disappointing and my guess is that
that is caused to a large extent by the run-of-the-mill OS disk and the 3
disk raid3. Since one disk is reserved for parity, you have only 2
disks available for data storage and with the overhead of raid3, your 3
disks will only perform at around 150-170% the speed of a single disk.
You will gain a serious performance boost from adding a 4-th (identical)
    disk to your raid.
Wish I could add a 4th, but there is no more room in the the case at all.  The single hard drive that the OS is stored on is a Western Digital WD3200AA 320GB 7,200 SATA.
I can't seem to be able to overclock the CPU/memory with this motherboard.  Every time I try the motherboard refuses to boot (even if I only go up 10% or so).  Of course the system has issues with not wanting to boot even without overclocking.  I'll frequently have to power it off, back on, off, back on to get it to POST if I have to shut it down completely.  I'm thinking that's a motherboard issue.  I'm starting to wish I'd gone with an ASUS for more money than this ASRock, even though Tom's Hardware reviewed it positively.
    Stan Jones wrote:
    a) you are sure the glitches are not in the source.
    b) the glitches occur at different places?  i.e. it may be more a playback issue than somethign in the stream.  What is the datarate of the mpeg2?  Are the spikes?  I'm forgetting which tool I used to use for that; free version that will still show a spike.
There are no glitches in the original footage when I play it back on the computer using either Premiere, VLC or even Media Player.  The glitches are in the final DVDs because they show up when I play the DVD in different players.
I've tried encoding the Mpeg2 files at different data rates.  I've tried VBR 1.5, 4, 7, but mostly I just let Encore do the encoding automatically.
I need to clarify about the glitches appearing in different places.  If I export a timeline to an AVI or Mpeg2 file and play it back or burn it to a DVD, whatever glitches I see in the file after exporting is what I see when it's played back anywhere (i.e. a different computer, different media players, or burned to a DVD).
The only time the glitches change their location is if I were to re-export the timeline again.  The glitches don't change their location after being exported.
I finally gave up on the two projects I mentioned in this post and lived with the glitches I still had (there were three total in the 1080 60i project, and I'm not sure how many in the other project, but I counted at least 3).  Hopefully the clients either won't notice them or won't be that concerned.
The current project I'm working on was shot 1280x720 @ 24p.  This time I used TMPGEnc to downres all of the the footage to 720x480 Widescreen before starting the edit process.  I'm hoping this will get rid of the glitches.
    Thanks.

  • Output AVCHD to PS3

    Hi all
Could someone please help in regards to AVCHD output to Playstation3.
I have edited the footage in FCE4 and want to put it on the Playstation 3.
I understand that the Kbps needs to be around 18'000. I just need to know the steps to acheive this.
    Thanks

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Here's my workflow to produce Blu-ray format DVD:
I shoot in HDV and edit into a 1080i60 AIC sequence. This process should work with AVCHD too.
Save the movie to quicktime. No conversion.
Drop the movie into toast with the HD plugin installed...(Toast 10 is available now)
    http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/plugin/overview.html
I burn a maximum of 20 minutes on a single layer DVD at 1080p in blu-ray tab in toast on my G5 2.3 dual 4.5 Go Ram, dual layer factory installed DVD burner.
Sorry, in my tests, menus are designed by roxio and there is issue with them and the looping feature, so I stay with the autoplay no menu. The latest PS3 firmware update may solve this issue.
I play the blu-ray DVD on a Playstation 3 perfectly.
You can also burn DiVX format in toast, but the res is limited to 720p. I encountered some playback problems with this format, but it is okay on PS3.
See those link about Blu-Ray authoring, they give a general idea on the workflow and option for BR burners and players:

I am trying to write a 28 minute high definition video project to BluRay disks using Primere Elements 8. The hardware is a Dell Quad Core 3.4 GHz machine with 12 GB RAM running Win-64 Pro. I do have a Blu Ray drive and disks available. The project is based on video from my HFS20 camcorder in AVCHD mode. BluRay disks look more or less the same as standard definition DVDs. I have tried all NTSC-based resolutions offered. The bluray disks do play back but look "standard" on the TV. Video from the Camcorder via HDMI looks stunning.

  • Burn AVCHD on Bluray with imovie 11

    Hi everyone,
How can I burn my AVCHD footage on bluray disc out of imovie. tried several settings but quality looks bad.
    Thanks
    Tim

All you need to do is to use the SHARE Menu. Choose Share/Movie, SHARE/to iTunes, Share/To Media Browser, or Share/Export Using QuickTime. Use 720 or 1080 as size based on the size of your source material.
If you use Export Using QuickTime, you will need to choose h.264 as the codec and choose a very high bit rate, say 20Mbps.  Export to QuickTime using Apple Intermediate Codec would also work.
Take the file and drag it into Toast Titanium with BluRay Plugin.

I have exported deinterlaced, field reversed, and straight 1080p and they all pretty much look the same.

Can someone help me with settings for full HD computer play back as well as best blueray playback.for HDTV?
    thanks.

I see nowhere that a 1080p60 source is mentioned or involved here. So, I need clarification related to SG's comment
so there is no way to keep 60p the whole way through the process if you're going to output a BluRay with menus from Premiere Elements.
    For your consideration....
If you have "AVCHD 1920 x 1080i 60", you have 1920 x 1080 16:9 at 29.97 interlaced frames per second (aka 60 field per second).
The only Premiere Elements 11 project preset that I see consistent with that source is:
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD Full HD 1080i30
    Not...
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD 1080p60
    or
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30 or DSLR 1080p30 @ 29.97.
As for export source...what are you aiming at...a file to playback on the computer or a burn to? Or both....Seems to be both.
    a. the burn to is fixed at 1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second no matter what is on that Timeline. And, the field order would seem to be consistent from project preset to import to export...upper field first for project preset and import and upper field first for the Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc. So, I would ask "what did the video (unrendered or rendered) look like on the Timeline with the project preset that I have cited above?"
    b. more on the export to file saved to hard drive later...but just quick question...when you were going this route, did you have Field Options/Always Deinterlaced selected when you were at Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with preset MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30 where it would seem de-interlacing is part of the export whether or not you have the Field Option selected?
bertro2013 and SG, please review and then let me know if I have misinterpreted anything in what has been already posted.
    Thanks.

  • S16 24fps - DVCPro HD 25 fps -   24 fps editing and output?

I'm new on this forum so "hi everybody!"
We're about to shoot a short feature on S16 film and I'm in charge of postproduction.
Last feature we made was shot on S16@24 fps -> HDCam SR telecine -> Betacam SP -> 24fps edit on Avid Film Composer -> EDL -> HDCam SR conformation, color grading and titling -> 35mm shoot.
The thing was, finding for free a HDcam SR deck and an Avid for conformation, color grading, titling etc... was really painful.
So now that we have less money than last time and that HD technologies evolved, I'm considering DVCPro HD instead of HDCam SR.
If the movie is good enough, we may get more money to go back to film on a 35mm print but nothing's sure right now. If the film isn't good enough, we'll stay in DVD/BluRay world.
The big question is "24 fps or 25 fps shooting?" (24 being the standard for film and BluRay/HD-DVD (ok, HD-DVDead) but can be an issue in my post production process)
I know for I can only make 25 fps DVCPro HD tapes in my Pal world (talking "1 film frame for 1 TC frame").
I know I can transfer 25 fps DV on FCP and edit everything at 24 fps with Cinema Tools.
But can I transfer 25 fps DVCPro HD to FCP with Cinema Tools (online editing), edit them at 24 fps and output a "BluRay quality" 24 fps video file? (for the 35mm shooting part I'm not affraid as I'll need TGA/Tiff frame sequences so one frame is one frame, there's no footage speed or anything involved)
I'll need a good 24 fps video file for the audio post part...
The goal is to stay in the digital domain after the telecine, and never use the original negative again (juste like we did for the last short feature we made). So no keycodes/flex or anything.
I know DVCPro HD is not as good as HDCam SR or even an original negative cut scan, but we won't have enough money for that and I was pretty impressed by the DVCPro HD->35mm footage I've seen so far.
    Thanks

  • Worth the effort? 8 bit AVCHD 1080p 4:2:0 versus 1080i 10 bit uncompressed

    Hello,
I am i homing in on a final MacBook Pro versus Mac Pro decision to enable both real-time capture (argues for portable) and final cut - color - motion work flow.
i have a new sony HXR 5NU that provides me with 25 Mbps 1080p AVCHD 8 bit 4:2:0 from the camera or 10 bit uncompressed 1080i 4:2:2 via SDI or HDMI. The latter would involve a MacBook (not lugging a 45 pound Mac Pro around on the set) and an external MOTU HD Express HDMI or or a Matrox O2 LE.
The key question is if the extra information is significant in terms of final look, constructing quality masks, etc. I believe the answer is yes as it relates to simply comparing 8 bit 4:2:0 versus 10 bit uncompressed 4:2:2. Seems the answer is murkier with the trade-off of 1080i (the uncompressed signal) versus 1080p from AVCHD.
I do not know the internal workings of the camera, it is possible that it is 1080i off of the sensor electronics and a pull down is happening with the avchd encoder which means that it is not really a trade-off.
    Any opinions?
Otherwise I just focus on getting the best out of my camcorder's avchd output using a waveform monitor and go for a Mac Pro in Post.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Wayne
    Portland

Thoughts or opinions? Remember, you asked for it.
    You haven't done the math.
You do seem to realize there might be some kind of quality difference between 4:2:0 AVC and 10 bit uncompressed, which is a good thing, but haven't dealt with the larger issues.
First off, while FCP might deal with AVC without too much fuss, it is not an approved codec for use with COLOR, and you will be dealing with a transcode at some point.
If you are dealing with some kind of sub-cinema format camera, which is producing AVC, then the practical reality is that its sensors are indulging in a serious amount of voodoo, and if your project is going to involve anything like a lot of greenscreen, then you are also buying yourself a certain amount of downstream pain, since the bandwidth that an actual 10-bit 4:4:4 camera produces is what you might really want. But that brings us to the real math.
Your first paragraph contains the phrase:
MacBook Pro versus Mac Pro decision to enable both real-time capture
Uh.... I guess you'd also be looking for some other kind of AJA/Io or whatever interface to work with the MacBook Pro, since it only supports USB and FireWire natively, neither of which will support 10-bit Uncompressed, or some other kind of slot34 device. I expect you really meant "on-set" capture, rather than real-time, since the only other way into a MacBook would be a P2-type card interface. In addition, real time Uncompressed 1920x1080 is very demanding no matter whether it is 24/30 frame, 8- or 10-bit. I'd be surprised if any Mac laptop could hack it. Its harder to do than HDV.
If you are recording on tape, then you can bet that the recorded format is segmented, which is a special, non-temporally related form of interlace, that allows a progressive frame to be recorded on a format that is maxed out at 1080i. Pull down is a term reserved for use with generating redundant frames to bridge a rate difference -- most notably "24" fps to "30" fps, which you don't mention. But which would be another significant hurdle.
I used to have this handy-dandy chart that listed all the bitrates and storage requirements for uncompressed formats SD, HD, 2K, etc., but it isn't in my field of view at the moment. 10-bit Uncompressed 1920x1080 at 29.97 takes up about a TeraByte per hour... do you have that much storage for field work? It isn't RED. It also requires a transfer rate in the Gigabit range, so in a practical sense it really requires a fibre-channel interface.
I'm kind of thinking you will eventually wind up with a ProRes workflow. You could get away with a laptop and AJA interface doing that.

  • Get SD PAL render files from a Bluray project

I've completed a Bluray project with 3 sequences in Premiere CS5.0.  The output to Bluray disc through Encore CS5 went well.  I now want to send a SD PAL DVD to a friend in Africa, and hoped (incorrectly) that I could just render the sequences with the appropriate PAL setting and use Encore again with PAL specified.  Files were rendered, but Encore rejects them as being an unacceptabe aspect ratio.
What is the simplest procedure to get a PAL format disc of my project?  I am willing to accept either top/bottom letterbox or truncation of the left/right sides of the frames to get the 16:9 aspect ratio into 4:3 or whatever PAL wants.

Jim, That was a reasonable guess, but I double checked that the Encore project was set up as a PAL project expecting to output 720x576, 25fps to a DVD.  But here is a more careful look at the error message:
PCC "Untitled Timeline" has an error at 437.6400s
The aspect ratio of this file is not supported by DVD
             PGC Info: name=Untitled Timeline, ref=Bpgc, time=437.6400s
Now that time is the first frame of the second sequence I put on the timeline, or rather the second m2v and wav files exported from the second sequence in Premiere CS5. Apparently the first sequence is swallowed OK, but the second is causing a problem.  All three exports were done with the same MPEG-DVD/PAL HQ preset, and all three m2v files are listed in Windows Explorer as 720x576 videos, and all three m3v files play in Windows Media Player looking the same (a wide screen video letterboxed with black bars at top and bottom).
However, if I look at the three sequences on the monitor in Encore, the first sequence has very narrow black bars on left and right, while the other two are widescreen aspect ratio surrounded on all four sides by wide black bars.
I re-exported the second sequence from Premiere with no change in result.
Anyone have an idea what's happening, or at least how I can get the PAL disk burned?

I am running Adobe CS4 Master Suite on Windows 7 RC1 64 bit OS setup and have a unique issue. When I import my footage rendered from PPro into Encore CS4 everything works fine. Also when I build the project into a DVD I have no issues whatsoever but the moment I change the output to Bluray the computer locks up and doesnt do anything. I have to do a hard reset.

    Barry,
Do not have anything for you directly, but you might also want to post to the Encore Blu-ray sub-forum. There are a lot of BD pros there, and maybe someone can at least ask the right questions about your hardware and workflow.
