AWT and focusing on different windows

Hey guys.
I have a problem, I'm trying to set the focus a window but can't.
I have two windows A and B.
I also have a Events being picked up set on window A.
So the set of events are detailed as follows.
Window A display's and responds to events.
When a particular event occurs it loads up a new window (WindowB) and focus is given to that window.Wasn't a problem until we realised that there was a delay between Window A being displayed and Window B being displayed, enough to cause a problem.
So the code was changed like follows.
WindowB.pack();
WindowB.setVisible(true);
WindowA.setVisible(false);When it was changed to the above, we lost the ability to pick up keyboard events, as WindowA was still the window with focus.
I've had a look at the KeyboardFocusManager where it seems that focus can be change between components.
However is also states for method setGlobalFocusWindow() that it can only be set if it is in the same context.
Which it is not.
Is it possible to set focus to the window before the window has been set visible? Is KeyboardManager the right class to look at?

I recently, decided to upgrade from 19.0b to the current (26.0) version, as "Tab Utilities" now supports 26, but am finding one of the visual changes counter productive. My two workstations have multiple monitors. One has 2 monitors (2560x1600) and the other one has 4 monitors (2560x1600). On both workstations, I'll place the various Firefox informational windows off the "main monitor" (the one directly in front of me). This way they're available to me at a glance.
(Side note: I refer to my monitors, as 2L, 1 2R and the 4th as "auxiliary.") The one thing I miss most is being able size these Firefox windows independently and in different positions.
I mean I'm used to seeing "Download" on monitor 2R on the right side (1/8 of screen) behind Microsoft Process Explorer's System Information. While the History will be on monitor 2L on the right side at 1/4 of the screen). I'm used to glancing out my right eye at the downloads and when needing something from the past, it's right next to the main monitor #1. This way I can access history quickly.
I can see why a developer (with one monitor say 1920 x 1080) would love seeing one window, but why can't Firefox support both single and multiple monitor users at the same?
Anyway, is there a way to get 26.0 to place at least "Download" and "History" in separate sizable windows?
(I'm not jumping up and down to go back to 19.0b or to try 25, but would like to stay current.)

OK, let's do a real world example of what I'm seeing on my two monitor system. I'll first describe what I experienced with 19.0b and earlier, which is IMHO how it should work in 26 and beyond ('''''as an option'''''). Next, I'll review what I'm seeing in 26.0. Hopefully this will help you understand what changed, from a practical perspective.
In 19.0b (and how I like working) for a multiple monitor system:
On the main monitor, I'm running Firefox. It is 1920 x 1080 and is in the lower right hand corner.
On the the monitor to my right (2R), I have the Download Manager list of downloading and downloaded file. It is in the upper right hand corner and takes up about 300 x 1500 pixels.
For a two monitor system, I have the History List running beside Firefox in the lower right hand corner and it is 600 x 1080.
For a three (plus) monitor system, I have the History List running on my left (2L) monitor. It is in the lower right hand corner and is 600 x 1080 pixels big.
For 26.0: I'm seeing the following:
On the main monitor, I'm running Firefox. It is 1920 x 1080 and is in the lower right hand corner. (This is the SAME as with 19.0b.)
When I start the Download Manager and have it set up as I do for 19.0b, it looks OK. It is on monitor 2R and is 450 x 1500 pixels (because of the new navigation side bar).

When starting the History List, it replaces the Download Manger on the 2R monitor in the 450 x 1500 pixel window. This doesn't work for me because:
1) It is too far away to see. (NOTE: I put it on the 2L monitor in the lower right hand corner. so I can see it easier for the 3+ monitor. In the case of the 2 monitor, I put it beside Firefox again to see it easier.)
Some might ask, but the Download Manager is on the 2R and right side, why can't the History List be there too? Good question, and I can only reply saying:
1) Personal choice.
2) The Download Manager is NOT as busy as the History List and I find it easy to read.
3) The History List is a lot busier and the font size looks to be smaller (might be the same, but it looks smaller to my eyes). I need it closer to me / Firefox.
What I'm saying is this . . . The Download Manager and History List have <ul>''valid reasons to be visible to the user at the same time''.</ul> They also need to be independent of one another for (at least) size and location.
Combining them together is OK for some people, but NOT for everyone. Please make it an option to combine (as in 26) and separate (25 and earlier).
I'm not sure this is the best way to put it, but here goes. Allow users to collapse or expand these various lists by using multiple windows. One window is the collapse view and multiple independent windows is the expand view.

Loading one JComponet Window then closing and Loading a different Window

Hello and how is everyone. I believe there is two ways I cam make this Java desktop application work, but I am not sure which is the best or doable. I have right now a Component tab window that pops up ask a user to select an option. Then they hit a next button. From here I want to close the JTabbed window the user was just in and open up another one that was based of off the selection. Is this doable
The other idea I had was have one Component tab window and set visible and invisible Tabs based on user's choices. Is this possible too? Thanks

You can add a "control-class" to your project. In basic it only opens your start dialog and is used as actionlistener for your "Next" buttons. This actionlistener loads (according to the action command you set for the buttons) your next window. To close the current window, the best is to make your dialog/window to a actionlistener which hide/close/dispose the "current"-window (don't forget to add it to your button ;) )
To your other idea, you can change the ContentPane, or you use the Card Layout (I think it was) which holds the tabs you want.

I have WordMac 2011. Why isn't it letting me put it into a space? (Where you swipe your fingers and enter different windows)

All my friends have WordMac 2011, just like me. Why can they put Word, Powerpoint, ect. into spaces (when you swipe your fingers and you enter different windows) and I can't?

I recently moved from Linux to Mac and miss a couple of things. If someone can point out how to do these things in OS X, I would appreciate it.
1) When one window of an application receives focus, raise all windows of that application.
I use a statistical package that has separate windows for output, commands and variables. If these windows get buried below other windows, I need to give focus to all windows separately. The optimal case would be that when I focus on one window, all of these windows are brought to front.
2) Force all windows of an application to stay on the same virtual desktop (space).
This is a problem that occurs particularly with Word 2008. The software has the main window and a tool box window. Sometimes the toolbox and the main window get separated to different spaces. It is very annoying to give focus to the application and to realize that the first thing to do is to hunt after the main window in another space.
3) When moving a mouse cursor over a window, make all windows that cover it transparent.
This is my favourite feature of compiz fusion. The idea is that you can peek behind windows without shifting the focus. Also, it enables you to read a web page on full screen while typing notes on a text editor that is above the web page. Anything similar possible in OS X?

I recently built a new windows PC for the first time. My (new) wife and I both have itunes accounts, which we would like to use under different windows accounts on same PC. However, when I try to download my wife's songs it gives me an error.

I am recently married to a wonderful woman and just built a windows PC for the first time. The idea was that we would (sorta) both be able to get a new computer out of it as we would each have a different account under windows. One of the first tasks was to migrate over our iTunes libraries. I did mine with no problem, but now that I'm try to do hers, I'm getting an error message saying "if you download past purchases with your Apple ID, you cannot auto-download or download purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days."
What's the best solution for this? I want my wife to be able to use the new computer under her windows account just like it's her new computer, to the extent possible. I don't want our two iTunes accounts to be fighting each other and causing problems because they are on the same physical machine. What to do? Surely this can't be the first time this has happened - where two people each want to have their own iTunes account on the same computer.
This is the latest version of iTunes (12.0.1.26) running on Windows 8.1.

FLV Playback and Seekbar on different native windows in one Air application

Hello Everyone. I'm trying to make a simple video playback AIR application that utilizes the initial native window to house a transport control with a seekbar on it. Once the application launches, it creates a second (new) window on my second screen and places a FLVPlayback instance on that new window. Everything works just like it want it to except for one thing. When the seekbar and FLVplayback instance are not located on the same window stage, the seekbar handle sticks to the mouse when trying to scrub through the video.
I've added both the transport control and the FLVPlayback instance to the original native window as children and I have also added both of them to the new window as children and everything works just fine. It's only when they are separated and located on different stages that the seekbar acts up. When they are on the same stage, I can click on a point on the seekbar and the video jumps to that spot and continues to play and I can also scrub the seekbar, the video updates as I scrub, and when I release the mouse, the seekbar handle stays where I released the mouse. When they on separate stages, the seekbar handle continues to follow the mouse movement without releasing it. The video updates as the seekbar handle is moved due to it sticking to the mouse, but if I release the mouse, the handle is still moving with the mouse and the video is still being scrubbed. Like I said, everything works great except for this and I have reached my limit with time spent on this issue. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Why am I getting different results for the same resolution but different Windows boxes, Win 7 and XP

I am running an .exe on two different windows boxes, one in Win 7 and one on XP. I set both for resolution 1024 x 768.
On Win 7 (laptop and old Dell desktop) I have a great looking app. On the WIn XP boxes all the fonts to large. THis doesn't make sense to me as all the PC's have the same resolution.
Has anyone run across this before?

If you click on the bottom library what is the file path that is displayed?
Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Calling and returning to different Vi windows

Quick question. I want to write a project that has a main window with various buttons and when a button it clicked on i want the vi to call a different window on screen while simultaneously closing the main window. Once i'm finished with the second window and i close it i want the main window to automatically pop back up. how do i go about doing this.
I also would like the button i previously selected in the main window to now maybe change colour to show that it has been modified and i need some of the changes that were made in the secondary window available in the Main vi.

You're in luck, I just did this the other day. Here's how I did it. ATP Main is the sub VI I'm calling. Put this into your main VI to close it while you pop up the sub VI. Set the sub VI to show the front panel when called (set its appearance to top level VI). The main VI will hide while the sub VI runs, then when you close the sub VI, the main VI will reappear.
Edit: forgot to show the reference to the main VI (This VI) connected to those property nodes.

Lost my iPad and when I attempt to use the "LOST" feature in icloud, the NEXT and CANCEL buttons are not responding. I have tried this on 3 different windows based computers. Any ideas???

Incoming emails cause Thunderbird to take focus and hogs network under Windows 8

I'm in the process of converting our office from Outlook 2010 to Thunderbird and I haven't had any issues until now. I've successfully moved 6 computers running Windows 7, but I am having issues with a Windows 8 laptop now. This person also happens to have our largest amount of emails in local folders at around 20GB. There are no addons installed.
The issue occurs when emails are downloaded. Thunderbird steals focus from whatever window you are currently working in. This behavior doesn't occur on any other computer we have using Thunderbird. Until the emails are done downloading, applications with heavy local network usage hang. Namely, Quickbooks will not respond to input, but Windows doesn't show it as not responding. It's as if it has lost network connection. There seems to be a spike in ping to the local server at the same time. However, I haven't been able to determine if this is due to software or wifi, but no other computer has ping spikes under a 5 Ghz connection so it leads me to believe it's a software issue.
There are no other abnormal signs. CPU, HDD, and RAM usage does not change when emails are downloaded.
If anyone has any idea why Thunderbird would steal focus when downloading emails or why Quickbooks would become unresponsive, I'd like to know.

I moved the local directory for both the IMAP account and Local Folders out of the roaming folder. I gave it a few days, but Thunderbird is still causing issues when receiving messages.
I find it bizarre that Thunderbird is taking window focus whenever it downloads a new email even when you are working in a child window of Thunderbird such as the message writer. I've gone through the settings and disabled all notifications for new emails, but that didn't do anything.
I'm leaning towards installing Windows 7 on the machine, but that's an all day job and not really guaranteed to solve the issue.

AP Divs (layers) move when I open my website on different window size.

First of all, this is my first time trying to make a website.
I'm doing an assignment for my class and i found it difficult for me to fix. I have spend 4-5 hours researching online but nothing work for me.
Well,the problem is the AP Divs (layers) move when I open my website on different window size(iphone,ipad).
The website only look right on 1366 x 786 resolution. Please take a look at my 2 pics below:
And I don't know how to make the website to fit on the iphone and ipad so that I don't have to scroll down or sroll to the right to view the whole thing.
Please someone help me!

That's what APDivs do. This is the single most common problem new people have with web page layouts. DO NOT use positioning. You don't need it. Start over. Learn to use CSS floats, margins and padding to align elements.
