Back button causing items in Cart to Disappear

Hi BC Community,
Need some help with something. A few of my client ecommerce sites are having some major issues at the large product/cart level. Customers are adding something to the cart (which works fine), but then they hit the back button to continue shopping and the items in the cart disappear. Now, I know that if they were to refresh their browser, that the items would appear again, but we can't really say that in big bold letters on every page of the site.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do here? I suppose I could add a "Continue Shopping" button, using the Javascript.history function, but I'm pretty sure this will cause the same issue. Items missing from the Cart seems to happen more on IE then any other browser.
Definitely frustrating. BTW - i only have one Cart tag on the page.

It is an issue the community has already raised to BC, BC support tickets.
Nothing really from them about a fix yet but BC know about this.

I have done some customization by extending the seeded Controller on a Page.I have altered the View query and executed it again dynamically as its not a static query.
There is a functionality called compare which directs the users to a page from the page I have customised the controller.
If the user uses the back button to return to the previous page it is giving a Null Pointer exception.
Also refresh button causes a similar Null Pointer exception on the customised controller page.
can anybody throw some light?
Also is there a way to disable the back and refresh button on the page?

Is the control entering the back button code in process request in your CO? Have you confirmed this by putting some debug comments?It many be that this error might being from the code where you have handled back button.
Put debugging comments and check.

Using the back button causes infinite loop between articles

Hi i have a folio that has a series of projects, and i wanted to use the back option as various access points to each project
goto://FolioNavigation/lastview
but each project has an image article associated with it, and this has a button on it back specifically to the project main article. But when u click the back button now on that main artcile, it takes u to the image article, not back to where the person wud have wanted to be.
I cannot think of a work around other than going back to using specific page navto but that means determining the access point which is not possible. Or duplicated the articles entirely.
Any help appreciated.

found solution. you have to use the goto://FolioNavigation/lastview
in the back option on the image page as wel. then it knows not to cause infinite loop

BACK Button causing problem with Single Sign on using STS Service

Hi Our application is using federated claim based authentication, and after logging into our default page using STS Authentication, we click a link inside our page, we get the new page, then we click BACK button but the Browser shows a blank page, The link below is shown by the URL and it shows it as a Working page

Usage of back button in shopping screen brings up the error in the screen,
In SRM shopping screen, when we use the "back" button on the Internet Explorer toolbar, it does not work, it brings up the error screen. Using the "back" button within the SRM window only occasionally works and if used near the end of an order it gives errors and all information inputted until you press back button is lost.
So, to resolve this issue, I mean when you press back button it should go to previous screen and should not give any error and also should not loose data in the screen.
Any suggestions in resolving this issue is very much apppreciable.

Hi Ravi,
Internet explorer back button is not supported for the application, instead you can use back to status/back button in SRM shopping cart application, you should be good to go with this button.
SAP recommends not to use internet explorer back button which stops the functoning of application.

Back Button - Why does it go back a FRAME (framed pages) instead a PAGE ?

In a "framed" site, the Back button causes the display going back one frame, following back goes back another frame, 3 framed page needs 3 backs to finally beeing back on previous page. Why ? Error in page setup or in handling of FF?

This is clearly a heavy bug in FF4, and now also continued in FF5.
The typical "main" window on the right side, within a frameset, is not going back when using the Back function, when this window is targeted from any JavaScript in the menu in the window on the left (or top) side.
If a "main" window is targeted instead by plain HTML, or out of an Applet, the back function in FF4 and FF5 behave correctly.
This bug can be verified by querying anything from a site like
http://www2.rgzm.de/navis2/home/FramesE.cfm
All websites using JavaScript based frameworks this way won't work correctly anymore in FF4 and FF5.
Thus, when the menu in a left frame is JavaScript driven, FF4 and FF5 don't now about its history anymore. This worked in FF3 and it is perfectly working in all other browsers. This serious bug will force users of any JavaScript based menu in a website to switch to one of these other browsers.
Its not clear to me whether the JavaScript engine does something wrong, or whether FF4 and FF5 itself are not keeping track correctly. What is clear, however, that this basci functionality was broken somewhere between FF3 and FF4.

Back button to re-edit form..."Current version of data..." error?

I've noticed a fairly common error that my users are running into. Here is the situation...
A user navigates to a form...makes modifications...saves the form...and is redirected to another page. Then, the user clicks the browser back button to re-edit the form...saves the form and gets the following error...
"...Current version of data in database has changed since user initiated update process...."
I am currently running v2.0...but I was able to also duplicate the issue within v3 (online...Customer Tracker sample application).
Is there any way to catch the error to display a custom message?
Or maybe some settings that I am missing to guarantee that when the user clicks the back button, the page is refreshed so it doesn't show the cached version with the old data?
Or maybe there is another way to approach this?

This is functioning exactly as it should... Imagine what could happen if it didn't work that way! People would overwrite other's information all the time.
I think the solution you need is two fold: user training and app modifications.
I know what you're thinking, user training, hah! But it's going to help as you make more of these kinds of web apps.
As for app modifications there are two I can think of that may help.
1. I don't know how the users open the app but if they click on a link then you can have the popup window open without tool bars and such (but they still have the backspace on the keyboard).
2. Add a button on the page they are redirected to after saving the form. Make the condition of the back button "If item is not null" and put PXX_ITEM_NAME in expression 1.
Then create the item you just put in expression 1as display as text (saves state). Set the condition to never. Now go to the page with the form, and create a process that sets PXX_ITEM_NAME equal to the value of the item used as the primary key for the form. Make sure the process only fires after an update is made.
Then when the users get to the page after making a modification they will see a "back" button.
The last step is to create a branch that will take the user back to the form if they click the button and populates the form item for the primary key.
Let me know if this is making any sense or not.

Click on the Menu bar and go to View . Or, hover over where the Menu bar shiuld be and click on it when it appears. Try quitting and relaunching Finder.

Page back button is disabled after clicking to another web page, causing me to lose the original page.

When I click to follow a link from one of my home pages, the back button becomes disabled. This has the effect of "disappearing" the first page and "stranding" the link I traveled to.
The only work around is enter the site again. Subsequent clicks from the page don't cause it to disappear again.

I would suspect a slightly incompatible addon of causing that to happen.

You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running.

The problem started when I turned on the computer this morning. I tried to install Mozilla 4 from your website and that installed but I still have nothing on the top.

It may be due to Firebug. Seeing as how you're a web developer, it's very possible you have this installed. The latest version, 1.7X a10, appears to cause everything you described. I downgraded to "a8" and that seems to have fixed everything.
I also recreated a profile from scratch before trying this out, so I can't guarantee it's definitely Firebug.

The back button goes back 2 pages, when choosing a bookmark the item under it (on the desktop) is selected

After upgrading to 3.6.11 The back button sometimes goes back 2 pages, The Bookmarks window just flashes when trying to open it, when it does stays open if an item is selected that item is not opened, the item beneath it on say, my home page is opened. I saw there were some Google related problems in your trouble shooting section, I got rid of the Google stuff but the problem remains.

Your above posted system details show multiple Java Console extensions. 
You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions, you do not need them to run Java applets.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

You should be able to remove it by going to Add-ons, then Extensions. If it's not there, then the free edition of Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free should be able to get rid of it for you.
